Josh Homme Says Kyuss Reunion Is “Possible”
Image
Josh Homme has opened the door for a potential Kyuss reunion, saying it’s “possible” in a new interview.

The Queens of the Stone Age frontman was asked about reuniting with his old band in a conversation with YouTube fan channel “Kyuss World.” It’s been a recurring question over the years, but considering the tenuous relationship between Homme and his former bandmates — he previously sought legal action against their usage of the Kyuss name — a reunion seemed like a long shot.

“I know I thought about it many times… I think about it,” said Homme on re-forming Kyuss (as transcribed by Blabbermouth). “I’ve actually talked about it a few times to people that help me do stuff.”

He continued, referencing some of the legal turmoil in the intervening years: “I don’t know. I just feel like the punctuation of...

SNL's Beloved More Cowbell Sketch Didn't Originally Include The Cowbell Or Christopher Walken
Image
Most "Saturday Night Live" sketches come and go without much pomp and circumstance. Even some of the funnier sketches get lost to time. But every now and then, a sketch comes along that becomes part of the pop culture lexicon, like the recent Beavis and Butt-Head sketch with Ryan Gosling. The instantly recognizable and quotable "More Cowbell" sketch is another great example. But would you believe that the original iteration of the sketch wouldn't have had either Christopher Walken or the famous cowbell?

Peacock has a new documentary series called "SNL 50: Beyond Saturday Night," featuring four episodes that dig into a specific piece of "SNL" history. One chronicles the audition process with never-before-seen footage of auditions from cast members and those who didn't get the gig, another spends an entire week with the writing staff during season 49's excellent episode hosted by "The Bear" star Ayo Edebiri, and another...

'SNL' Celebrates 50th Anniversary With "More Cowbell" Documentary Episode
Image
Over its 50-year history, Saturday Night Live (SNL) has dominated pop culture with some hilarious breakout sketches. Skits like "Porn Teacher" (with Amy Schumer), "Black Jeopardy with Tom Hanks," the controversial "Harry Potter: Hermione Growth Spurt" (with Lindsay Lohan), and Adam Driver's amazing "Star Wars Undercover Boss: Starkiller Base" are all fan favorites. However, if there's one skit that has gotten stuck in fans' heads more than any other, it has to be the infamous "More Cowbell" skit featuring Will Ferrell and Christopher Walken. A new docuseries, titled SNL 50: Beyond Saturday Night, is looking at the show's long history, with an entire episode dedicated to the beloved sketch.

The skit makes fun of Blue Öyster Cult's hit song "Don't Fear the Reaper," or, to be more specific, the incessant amount of cowbell present in the track. "This is beyond my wildest dreams that you’re making a documentary about the cowbell sketch,...

Josh Homme, Dave Gahan, Chrissie Hynde Honor Mark Lanegan at London Tribute Show: Video + Setlist
Image
Queens of the Stone Age’s Josh Homme, Depeche Mode’s Dave Gahan, The Pretenders’ Chrissie Hynde, and others honored the late Mark Lanegan during a tribute concert at the Roadhouse in London on Thursday night (December 5th).

The star-studded show, dubbed “Mark Lanegan 60 – A Celebration,” was held in honor of the late singer’s 60th birthday (he would have turned 60 on November 25th). The Screaming Trees frontman and erstwhile member of Queens of the Stone Age passed away in February 2022 at the age of 57.

The 30-song setlist featured the performers singing mostly Lanegan’s solo tunes along with three Screaming Trees songs and one Gutter Twins number (“The Stations”).

The show was divided into mini sets, with Gahan singing the first four numbers, then Bobby Gillespie (Primal Scream) and Alison Mosshart each singing a block of songs. Lanegan’s Gutter Twins bandmate Greg Dulli took on four songs, including the aforementioned tune “The Stations.

‘Bad Sisters’ Season 2 Episode 2 Recap & Ending Explained: Is Grace Dead?
Image
I didn’t think I’d see the day, but episode 2 of Bad Sisters season 2 has left me completely reeling in shock. The dark comedy really knows how to throw you a curveball, and while I generally love it, I can’t have anything happening to the Garvey sisters because I just feel like they’re family at this point. The second episode begins with Grace trying to deal with the absence of her new husband. She’s clearly very stressed out, and it’s starting to show. On the other hand, our fears have come true, and Roger’s told Angelica the whole truth; she’s definitely going to be the big bad villain of this show, but why? We will find out later. She’s certainly an interesting character, and the more we get to know about her, the more suspicious she looks. With all of that said,...

15 Best Cameos by Real Bands in Comedy Films
Image
Sometimes packing a film with talented, mainstream actors makes a film entertaining. Other times, a more formulaic approach is taken. Physical comedy, timing, and a great theme help put any comedy film on the radar. In the 90s, a technique that caught on quickly was comedy films consistently featuring real bands playing themselves. On some rare occasions, a band would cameo in a film franchise that they liked, like Blink-182 in American Pie.

When comedy films use real music or a live band, sometimes the band will pose as a fictional band. In other cases, they are the backdrop of the plot in the film, playing themselves to serve the story. The film Hot Rod featured the band Queens of the Stone Age as a fictional version of themselves. Whichever path the bands take in a film, it's always awesome to see familiar faces embedded into any movie.

Foo Fighters Pull Out of Soundside Music Festival, Jack White Announced As Replacement
Image
Foo Fighters have pulled out of the Soundside Music Festival in Bridgeport, Connecticut, just days before the event is set to begin. Fortunately, organizers have found a worthy last-minute replacement in Jack White.

No specific reason was given for the Foo Fighters’ cancellation, but earlier this month frontman Dave Grohl revealed that he had recently become the father of “a new baby daughter, born outside of my marriage.” The band had been scheduled to headline the festival on Sunday, September 29th.

White will take Foo Fighters’ Sunday night slot. Additionally, Greta Van Fleet has been added to Soundside’s Sunday lineup. Other confirmed acts that day include Bleachers, Norah Jones, Gregory Alan Isakov, and Hurray for the Riff Raff. Queens of the Stone Age had previously canceled their scheduled appearance on Sunday due to frontman Josh Homme’s health issues.

Queens of the Stone Age Cancel Remaining 2024 Shows as Josh Homme Receives “Essential Medical Care”
Image
Queens of the Stone Age have announced that they’ve canceled or postponed all of their remaining 2024 concerts in order for frontman Josh Homme to “receive essential medical care.”

Earlier this summer, Qotsa were forced to nix several dates on their European tour as Homme had to travel back to the United States for emergency surgery. The band then canceled even more European gigs in August, with Jack White filling in their slots at certain festivals.

The newly affected concerts are all North American gigs that were set to take place this fall, including headlining shows in Boston, Cincinnati, Chicago, and Madison, Wisconsin, as well as the Soundside Music Festival in Bridgeport, Connecticut, the Mempho Music Festival in Memphis, and the Corona Capital Festival in Mexico City. The band is working on rescheduling the headlining shows for 2025, but unfortunately has to cancel the festival appearances outright.

Gramm drops references to the Beatles’ legendary 1964 performances on Ed Sullivan (“I saw the Beatles on my black and white TV/It changed everything deep down inside of me”) and Foreigner’s late Seventies streak (“Those ‘Double Vision’ days”).

In an interview with Billboard, Jones revealed that “Turning Back...

Stöner Announce Live Album, Unleash Cover of Kyuss’ “Green Machine”: Stream
Image
Stöner, featuring ex-Kyuss members Brant Bjork and Nick Oliveri, have announced a new live album, Hittin’ the Bitchin’ Switch.

Ahead of the October 11th release date, Bjork and Oliveri served up a cover of their former band’s staple song “Green Machine,” which closes the tracklist on the forthcoming LP.

“Green Machine” was a highlight track on Kyuss’ vaunted 1992 LP Blues for the Red Sun, the album that helped launch the careers of Bjork, Oliveri, and guitarist and eventual Queens of the Stone Age mastermind Josh Homme. Here, Bjork and Oliveri revisit the classic song alongside Stöner drummer Ryan Güt, beefing up the low end on this live take.

Hittin’ the Bitchin’ Switch was recorded live at Altroquando in Treviso, Italy, by Matteo Pillon and engineered, mixed, and mastered by Tommaso Mantelli and Max Ear at Lesder Studio. The LP is 15 tracks in length and also features an additional Kyuss...

Antony Starr, the 48-year-old actor behind the greatest villain on TV right now, The Boys’ Homelander, really doesn’t like walking around in public with the character’s dyed blond hair. “It kind of sticks out,” he says, in an interview conducted for Rolling Stone‘s recent in-depth feature on the show. “Like, ‘Oh, there’s an aging chap with blond hair. Billy Corgan Doesn’t Feel Obligated to Play the Classics: “You Can’t Live in the Past”
Image
Just ahead of the Smashing Pumpkins’ co-headlining European tour with Weezer, Billy Corgan has warned fans that they should expect the band to play more than just the hits.

In a recent interview with Kerrang!, Corgan said he doesn’t feel obligated to add songs to their setlist due to popular demand. “I don’t play any songs I don’t want to play,” he plainly stated. “I don’t care if they’re a classic or not. If I don’t want to play it, I just don’t play it. I don’t put that on the audience like, ‘Well, I’ve got to play this one for you.’ I think that’s kind of cheese.”

While truly deserving, Foreigner may have been helped out by a Mark Ronson-led campaign (see below) featuring Dave Grohl, Josh Homme, Slash, Chad Smith, and Jack Black calling for the hit-making classic rock band to be inducted this year.

Guitarist Mick Jones acknowledged the honor with a statement listing the band’s fellow classic members Lou Gramm, Dennis Elliot, Al Greenwood, Rick Wills, the late Ed Gagliardi, and the late Ian McDonald. Young Band Featuring Josh Homme’s Son Rocks Led Zeppelin Classic at Benefit Show: Watch
Image
Queens of the Stone Age frontman Josh Homme’s benefit concert for the Sweet Stuff Foundation on Wednesday (March 20th) at The Belasco in Los Angeles was an epic event. One of the many highlights was his son Ryder’s band Vivant performing classics by Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath.

As we reported on Thursday, “Josh Homme & Friends: A Benefit for the Sweet Stuff Foundation” featured a drum-off between Dave Grohl and Chad Smith, plus performances from Beck, St. Vincent, and more, not to mention comedy from Sarah Silverman and Bill Burr.

Vivant, featuring 12-year-old Ryder Homme behind the drum kit alongside his fellow young bandmates, rocked Led Zeppelin’s “Immigrant Song” (watch below) and Black Sabbath’s “War Pigs.”

Back in December at another benefit show, Ryder played tambourine onstage alongside his dad and Queens of the Stone Age members Troy Van Leeuwen and Michael Shuman for a rendition...

Dave Grohl Almost Dedicated a Doja Cat Song to Josh Homme, But Decided to Write Him One Instead

When a friend calls, Dave Grohl answers. And when that particular friend is Josh Homme, calling to ask him to make an appearance at the Josh Homme & Friends benefit concert, the Foo Fighters frontman jumped straight into rehearsal mode. Grohl’s process started with pulling up the lyrics to Doja Cat’s rebellious single “Paint the Town Red” and concluded with him penning a completely new song specifically for Homme.

“I spent a couple of days trying to figure out like, ‘What the fuck am I gonna play?’” Grohl told...

Josh Homme Put On an Epic Benefit Concert with Dave Grohl, Chad Smith, Beck, and St. Vincent
Image
Josh Homme hosted an all-star benefit concert in support of his Sweet Stuff Foundation at the Belasco in Los Angeles on Wednesday. Over the course of the evening, he welcomed friends and collaborators to the stage, including Dave Grohl, Beck, St. Vincent, The Kills, Chad Smith of Red Hot Chili Peppers, Matt Helders of Arctic Monkeys, Jesse Hughes of Eagles of Death Metal, Bill Burr, and more.

Not surprisingly, Grohl provided several highlights. He went head to head against Smith in a drum off, and briefly attempted to sing a duet of Simon & Garfunkel’s “Sound of Silence” with Homme. Later, after joking that he attempted to learn how to play Doja Cat’s “Paint the Town Read” to no avail, he instead debuted an entirely new song he wrote about Homme.

Other notable moments included tennis legend John McEnroe briefly trying his hand at covering Beck’s “Fume,” before...
