Major television deaths are almost always sad, but they're especially devastating when viewers barely get to spend time with the character in question. While the death of a longtime favorite dramatically impacts the show and its audience, the demise of smaller players can hit just as hard.
This is especially true when they've made a good impression, igniting hopes that they'll take on a more prominent role in the story. In some cases, they're met with an early end instead, leaving viewers to wonder what their character arc could have looked like if they'd lasted longer than a handful of episodes.
Syrio Forel (Miltos Yerolemou) Game of Thrones (2011-2019)
Game of Thrones' Syrio Forel is the perfect example of a fan-favorite character who makes an impression in just a few episodes. Syrio is introduced in season 1's "Lord Snow," when Ned tasks him with training Arya in the art of swordplay.

My Lady Jane has sadly been added to the ever-growing list of streaming shows canceled after just one season. Despite being praised as one of the best shows of the year so far, the series didn't attract enough viewers to earn another season. While the story did end on a positive note, fans were understandably disappointed by the news, especially since the show only adapted the first half of the book on which it was based. The fanbase is already rallying to save the series, but as they wait to see if another platform will grant their wish, they might want to check out some other shows in the same vein.
With its seamless blend of comedy, fantasy elements, revisionist history and steamy romance, My Lady Jane had a lot to offer viewers. Fans of the series might have a difficult time finding another show that ticks all the same boxes,...

Update: The BBC has issued a statement that offers important context to Sara Poyzer’s viral social media posts. The British broadcaster said it is using AI technology in a “highly sensitive documentary” to represent the voice of a person who is nearing the end of their life.
Poyzer was penciled in for the job, but her services are no longer required as the BBC attempts to honor the wishes of the contributor’s family by dedicating a brief — and clearly signposted — section of the documentary to recreating “a voice which can now no longer be heard.”
Here’s the BBC’s full statement: “We are making a highly sensitive documentary which features a contributor who is nearing the end of life and is now unable to speak. We have been working closely with their family to explore how we might best represent the contributor’s voice at the end...

The artificial intelligence debate has intensified in the U.K. this week after veteran Mamma Mia! musical star Sara Poyzer in a social media post said that At has replaced her for a BBC production.
Poyzer, who has played Donna Sheridan in the onstage musical for around 10 years, posted a screenshot of an email containing the news and tagged the U.K. public service broadcaster and labor union Equity, calling the development “sobering.” Poyzer also added a sad face emoji. She didn’t detail the name of the production or whether it was an audio or TV project.
“Sorry for the delay,” the email from an unidentified production company reads, per the screenshot shared by Poyzer on Instagram and X (formerly Twitter). “We have had the approval from the BBC to use the AI generated voice so we won’t need Sara anymore.”
Miltos Yerolemou was among the industry people who reacted to the disclosure.

Unlike regular protagonists with many developments throughout the eight seasons, some minor character arcs in Game of Thrones are temporary and less explored. Still, their stories are able to fuel the narrative and serve a bigger purpose. Meera and Osha are both Bran Stark's protectors after he escapes Winterfell, for example.
There are several characters like them that are fan favorites, even though they appear in less than twenty episodes. The best short-lived characters are the ones with the most compelling and meaningful stories. With brief yet impactful appearances, their actions lead to long-lasting consequences. Their well-written personas make fans either love or hate them, but they're unforgettable either way.

Game of Thrones shocked audiences by killing off main characters early, changing the direction of the story and intensifying conflicts. Some deaths, like Catelyn Stark's and Syrio Forel's, happened too soon, depriving the show of potential storylines and character development. The premature deaths of characters like Renly Baratheon and Oberyn Martell prevented them from fulfilling their potential and offering fresh perspectives on the plot.
Game of Thrones’ brutality in killing off its main characters showed no character was safe no matter how fundamental they were, but the death of some happened so early that it felt too soon both to audiences and for the characters’ stories. Whether they shined for their brutality or happened in a fight, all these deaths involved characters that could have easily played a bigger role in Game of Thrones, especially considering some of the revelations and developments of the fantasy drama’s later seasons. Game of Thrones actor Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (aka Jaime Lannister) was joined by fellow Westeros citizens Jerome Flynn (Bronn), Hannah Murray (Gilly) and Miltos Yerolemou (Syrio Forel) at Con of Thrones in Nashville over the weekend as they continue to do a victory lap from its eighth and final season (which no doubt will culminate this weekend at Comic-Con). When asked about the final season and the backlash it received, he had a couple of thoughts.
“This happens every season,” he pointed out during the panel. “We’re so lucky to be part of a show where people … care so much about it that you also get upset when it doesn’t go the way you want it to. And that’s fantastic, and I love it, and I love that there was an online petition to have it rewritten.”

A decade or so ago, Arya Stark (Maisie Williams) first left King's Landing under brutal circumstances. So much has happened on Game of Thrones, it's easy to forget everyone's first true trauma. For Arya, it was watching her mentor and veritable father figure Syrio Forel (Miltos Yerolemou) almost certainly die in battle against men of the new king Joffrey (Jack Gleeson). Game of Thrones has reached its final season, and we're counting down the days to the premiere. But with each passing moment (and every replay of the trailer), new questions surface. Who will live? Who will die? Why is Arya running down that hall? And most importantly, who will return from the dead to wreak havoc on the remaining characters battling for the throne?
While we can't guarantee answers to all of these questions, we do have a few theories about who could resurface. Remember, Game of Thrones has set a precedent of giving certain characters a rebirth. Let us not forget that Gregor "The Mountain" Clegane died during the fourth season from wounds inflicted by Oberyn's poisonous spear and later gained a new lease on life via the unscrupulous power of Qyburn, a former maester and the current hand to Queen Cersei. And of course, who doesn't remember Jon Snow...

When Disney called the latest Star Wars: The Force Awakens sneak peek 'The Final Trailer', they meant it! There will be no more new footage released until the film hits theaters on December 17 as part of a 7 film marathon at participating theaters. Leading up to the big premiere, which is just 50 days away (less than two months), we will be seeing a handful of TV spots. But don't expect these too give away too much. They will mostly be comprised of already released footage with a few very select new shots that won't last more than a couple of seconds.
The third and final Force Awakens trailer arrived last Monday like a tornado, whipping through the online landscape and causing quite a bit of emotional damage. People cried, they laughed, they cheered, they literally lost their sh*t as they watched the new footage over and over again. The...

Earlier this morning, Empire Magazine debuted the first of two covers for their October issue. It featured the new Star Wars: The Force Awakens villains, including Kylo Ren (Adam Driver), Captain Phasma (Gwendoline Christie) and General Hux (Domhnall Gleeson). Now, they are sharing their second gate-folded cover, and this time, they are bringing the new heroes together.
Included on this second cover is Oscar Isaac as Poe Dameron, who flies as part of an X-Wing squad. He belongs to a splinter cell of the Rebellion known as The Resistance. He is joined by Jakku desert scavenger Rey, played by Daisy Ridley. Rounding out the trio is Finn, played by John Boyega. He is an Awol Stormtrooper who is being ruthlessly hunted down by General Hux, Kylo Ren and Captain Phasma. It appears that he is holding one of the force's most precious artifacts and must get it back to its rightful owner.

Are you ready for Star Wars: The Force Awakens? You better be, because we're about to get a barrage of images and footage in the final four months leading up to its release this December. And it all starts with the latest issue of Empire Magazine. They have two covers heading our way, the first of which they are sharing today. It features the long-awaited sequel's main lineup of new villains.
The dark side rises on the first of these two Empire covers. Though, as you probably already know, the vast evil army that stretches throughout the galaxy is no longer known as the Empire. After the fall of the second Death Star in Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi, the remaining troops spread throughout the universe regrouped to form the New Order. And while this vast dictatorship is mostly made up of Stormtroopers, someone still has to lead them.

The New York Comic Con marked the true arrival of director Brad Bird's new film Tomorrowland upon the global conscience. While the picture won't be out until May 22nd, we hadn't seen anything from the film at all until the trailer and poster popped up at Nycc and Bird (along with co-writer Damon Lindelof) started doing press. During that press Bird was asked what it was like to have to turn down Star Wars: Episode VII in order to work on his new film with George Clooney. What's even more interesting about this exchange is that it seems like Bird was also up for Episode VIII if you break down the timetable of his comments. Hit the jump for more on Brad Bird and Star Wars: Episode 7, which J.J. Abrams is of course currently shooting. The film stars John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Harrison Ford, Adam Driver, Mark Hamill,...

Another day, another image from Star Wars: Episode VII, but this one just happens to be the best thing I've seen from the movie so far. It depicts a lightsaber duel under the Millenium Falcon with a Darth Vader-like figure fighting a Rebel with a green lightsaber. It's epic looking, and for a second I get excited but then I remember the prequels and how flat they were visually (not to mention narratively). Then I get excited all over again because there's no way this will be like that, right? They can't possibly make the same mistakes can they? Yesterday we saw the Chrome Troopers (as a follow up to the new Stormtroopers and the costume designs for Han Solo). But now we have this gorgeous image, besotted somewhat by an ill-conceived watermark on the part of the hosting site. Hit the jump to take a look at the new...

Remember last month when some genuine concept art from Star Wars: Episode VII started popping up, revealing the new Stormtroopers and the costume designs for Han Solo? Well the same source is at it again, as they’ve now revealed a Chrome Trooper image by way of even more concept art. Thankfully this isn’t incredibly spoilerly, but it’s neat to see how director J.J. Abrams is making the franchise his own by tweaking some very familiar designs. The Millennium Falcon remains unchanged, wisely, but this new concept art shows a chrome-plated version of Stormtrooper that should pair nicely with the traditional white. What makes the Chrome Trooper so special? We’ll have to wait until December 18, 2015 to find out. Hit the jump to take a look at the Star Wars: Episode 7 Chrome Trooper images. I'm almost shocked that there isn't restricted air space around the Star Wars: Episode VII set, such is the intensity of director J.J. Abrams' desire for secrecy. But even Abrams doesn't have that kind of clout, and so now we have some overhead pics that got snagged by a local flying school. And they detail what look to be like life-size models of the Millenium Falcon and a (tarp covered) X-Wing fighter. So, just in case you were in doubt about those ships' presence in the film after all of the prior evidence, don't be. Hit the jump for the pics. With the news that Miltos Yerolemou, famed for his portrayal of Arya’s memorable jeri-curled swordmaster Syrio Forel, has been cast in Star Wars Episode VII (joining Thrones alumni Gwendoline Christie) it raises the question what other Game of Thrones actors could suitably make the intergalactic journey from Westeros to a galaxy far, far away?
In a way it’s a pointless question as the answer could easily be “all of them” Game of Thrones could after all be described as “Star Wars on crack but set in Middle Earth”, and its sprawling cast, featuring a roll call of venerable British and Irish character actors, are the kind of faces that have populated the saga since its inception. Having said that though it is worth looking at what actors from the show would make a great fit in the Star Wars universe, and if they were to make the jump to hyperspace?...

(Cbr) J.J. Abrams has recruited another "Game of Thrones" alum for "Star Wars: Episode VII." BBC News reports that Miltos Yerolemou, who played master sword-fighter Syrio Forel on the HBO fantasy series, has signed on to play an undisclosed, though supposedly small, role in the upcoming film. Presumably, Yerolemou was hired for his sword-fighting skills and will put them on display with the use of a lightsaber, but nothing has been announced. He joins fellow "Got" cast member Gwendoline Christie on the film. Production on the highly anticipated sci-fi sequel resumed last week after going on hiatus, allowing Harrison Ford to heal from a broken leg suffered on-set.
