This Classic Universal Horror Film Set Doug Jones on the Path to Becoming Hollywood's Favorite Monster Actor [Exclusive]
Image
Doug Jones is one of the modern era's most accomplished monster actors, having embodied inhuman creatures in films like Hocus Pocus, Pan's Labyrinth, and The Shape of Water. He was inspired by one of the most iconic horror actors of all time: Boris Karloff. While discussing his career at a panel at this year's Atl Comics Convention in Atlanta, moderated by Collider's Maggie Lovitt, Jones talked about the film that inspired his legendary performances.

Although Jones' first love was comedy, he credited a classic monster movie with inspiring his eventual transformation into one of modern cinema's most accomplished boogeymen:

"My first monster movie, in Indianapolis, Indiana, was a late-night Friday show hosted by Sammy Terry. [laughs maniacally] And it was The Mummy, with Boris Karloff. So watching that movie and the effect those haunting eyes of his had on me, and how he affected the head-to-toe performance that we're talking about.

The Hills Have Eyes (2006) Revisited – Horror Movie Review
Wes Craven at an event for Scream 4 (2011)
Earlier today, we took a look back the Wes Craven-directed 2005 thriller Red Eye… so we figured, why not follow that up by taking a look at a remake of a Craven horror film that was released the year after Red Eye reached theatres? The movie we’re taking about is the 2006 version of The Hills Have Eyes (watch it Here), a remake of Craven’s 1977 classic. It’s time for this one to be revisited, and you can hear all about it in the embed above.

While the original film was written and directed by Craven, Alexandre Aja directed the remake from a screenplay he wrote with Grégory Levasseur. Here’s the synopsis: Bob Carter and his wife Ethel, along with five other members of the family, are heading for San Diego with their camper van. An accident strands them in the desert and while two of the men go for help,...

Blu-ray Review: Wes Craven’s The Hills Have Eyes (1977) [Limited Edition]
It's hard to believe now that it has been over a year since we lost Wes Craven, one of the all-time great horror filmmakers who knew better than most how to truly scare an audience. His special gift wasn't that he was the most polished of directors; with only a few exceptions (like Scream), his movies were mostly rough edges. I happen to like rough edges. No, Craven's talent was for zeroing in on our primal fears and realizing them onscreen. He didn't want to spook us with tricks and jump scares and he rarely wanted the horror to be "fun." He wanted to shake us to our cores. This was especially true in much of his early work, primarily The Last House on the Left, A Nightmare on Elm Street, and The Hills Have Eyes, out now in a stunning limited edition Blu-ray from Arrow Video.

The Hills Have Eyes is all rough edges.

Toyota Unveils Family-Sized, Bite-Sized Versions of the Prius, More to Come
The Prius name is ubiquitous with hybrid vehicles--in a press conference at this week's Detroit Auto Show, Bob Carter, Toyota Division group VP and general manager, went to far as to compare the Prius/hybrid connection to Kleenex and tissues. Since its debut in 2000, nearly one million Prius's have been sold--and Toyota, as a result, has brought hybrids into the mainstream. So it makes sense that Toyota unveiling two new versions of the Prius--the Prius V family-sized vehicle (above) and the Prius c, a city-centric hybrid--today in Detroit.

When Toyota first debuted the Prius, it was looked at as a novelty. But "everybody sees opportunity now that hybrid technology has been proven," says Jim Colon, Toyota's VP of product communications. That's why Toyota is expanding the Prius line into new markets.

The specs are strong for both vehicles. The Prius V gets 42 mpg in the city, 38 on the highway, and 40 combined,...
