Fox's Wayward Pines and HBO Game of Thrones are facing similar issues heading into their new seasons, since both shows have caught up with their respective source material. Of course, Wayward Pines was only based on one novel by Blake Crouch, while Game of Thrones fans have been waiting for George R.R. Martin's book for more than five years. Still, Wayward Pines Season 2 enters new territory for readers of the book. As we get ready for new episodes, debuting May 25, Fox has unleashed a sneak preview, introducing some of the faces coming to town this summer.

After nine hours of back to back shocks to the system, Wayward Pines delivered it's tenth and final episode, "Cycle." My initial reaction to the final moments of the break-neck hour was disappointment -- not in the storyline, the performances, the cinematography or the actual final details of the story's end. My disappointment was an empathetic reaction to the plight Ben Burke now faces. I felt his panic.

What does that mean? It means that the storyline worked, the performances were well-delivered, the special effects and the cinematography and were effective and unobtrusive, and the ending was believable ... even in its horribleness. As a viewer of the series was I satisfied? Of course not. I want to have my cake and eat it too. I wanted unicorn farts and, I'm ashamed to admit, a big yellow bow of hope to tie it all up. Ask me the question again five...

Fox’s Wayward Pines truly defined “limited series” by bringing its 10-episode storyline to a decided, dramatic close on Thursday night, while offering a non-maddening hint of what was ostensibly to come for the finale’s survivors.

To recap: With mobs of abbies scaling the powered-down perimeter fence and terrorizing the town, Ethan, Theresa and Kate did their best to usher everyone to safety via the Plot 33 bunker. Meanwhile, Pam confronted David, who had declared the town “too sick” to be saved and thus was ready to replace them with “Group C.

This Thursday on Wayward Pines (Fox, 9/8c) — in the thriller’s antepenultimate episode, titled “The Friendliest Place on Earth” — Ethan fears for the worst in the wake on an explosive twist.

As revisited in the behind-the-scenes featurette above, Ben Burke (played by Charlie Tahan) was the unwitting victim of a bomb crafted by resistance member Harold (Reed Diamond) but intended to detonate at the fence line.

Instead, Ben was felled and found bloody and unconscious after being blasted out of the delivery truck where he and girlfriend Amy (Sarah Jeffery) were… growing closer.
