Chris Pratt’s $1 Billion Blockbuster He Feared Would Kill the Franchise Remains a Global Streaming Hit
Image
Chris Pratt is currently hard at work filming the second season of his hit Prime Video series, The Terminal List. However, just a few years ago, he starred in a blockbuster that’s maintained its status as a global streaming sensation. Pratt stars alongside Bryce Dallas Howard (Deep Cover) and Sam Neill (Jurassic Park) in Jurassic World Dominion, the 2022 film that capped off Pratt’s Jurassic World trilogy that began in 2015. Jurassic World Dominion is currently streaming on Peacock in America, but globally, it’s become a streaming sensation on platforms such as Amazon, iTunes, Google, and more, trending in over 50 countries. The film earned a 29% from critics and 77% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes, and it grossed almost exactly $1 billion at the worldwide box office against a $185 million budget.

During a 2022 interview on The Today Show, Pratt said he thought Jurassic World Dominion would be “the end” of the franchise.

3 Years Later, 1 of Chris Pratt's Worst Sequels Explodes in Popularity With 186% Increase in Streaming Views
Image
Jurassic World Rebirth isn't just conquering the box office; it's also helping its predecessors rise on streaming. Three years after getting mauled by critics, 2022's Jurassic World Dominion has seen a massive increase in streaming views due to the renewed interest in the franchise following Rebirth's debut.

According to Deadline, since Jurassic World Rebirth hit theaters on July 2, the franchise as a whole has seen a 51% increase in streaming views week-over-week, with Dominion in particular seeing a dino-sized 186% boost in the week immediately following Rebirth's New York premiere on June 23. "Jurassic World Rebirth is a true summer blockbuster event driving audiences to theaters, and we’re thrilled to see them craving even more from this beloved franchise on Peacock. As the streaming home of the Jurassic empire, Peacock is the place for fans to discover and rediscover these iconic films," said Jenny Storms, Chief Marketing Officer, NBCUniversal Television & Streaming,...

Disney, Warner Bros. & 6 Other Movie Distributors Who Have Given At Least One Billion Dollar Movie
Image
From Disney to Cmc: These Distributors Have Released Films That Crossed $1 Billion Globally ( Photo Credit – X )

In the billion-dollar club of global cinema, the spotlight often falls on actors and directors. But it’s the movie distributors, the powerhouses behind the scenes, who make sure the world sees these blockbusters. Whether it’s through aggressive international rollouts, localized dubbing, or clever holiday release windows, distributors play a crucial role in driving a film past that elusive billion dollars global mark.

As Safer estimates evolve, streaming rises, and box office gets tougher, having just one billion-dollar movie to your name is now a badge of elite industry stature. Disney may dominate with multiple entries, but even lesser-known firms like China’s Cmc Pictures have cracked the code with homegrown successes. In this feature, we spotlight 8 such distributors, and their historic billion-dollar crown jewels. All the box office figures are sources from The Numbers.

‘Lilo & Stitch’ Overtakes Chris Pratt’s 29% Rotten Tomatoes Trilogy-Capper at the Global Box Office
Image
After passing the coveted $1 billion mark at the global box office earlier this week — it’s the first Hollywood film to do so this year — Disney’s Lilo & Stitch remake overtook a couple of landmark blockbusters in its ninth weekend of release. Disney delayed debuting the hit film on digital services, a decision that seems to have paid off. Universal is doing just the opposite by putting Jurassic World Rebirth— another movie that’s expected to cross $1 billion — on PVOD platforms in a couple of weeks. The studio attracted flak for pulling the same move with Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt’s The Fall Guy last year, but is prepared to give filmmakers such as Christopher Nolan unusually long theatrical windows.

Despite certain decisions made during the peak of the pandemic, which left Pixar and Marvel in massive trouble, Disney remains a theater-first studio. Lilo & Stitch has grossed nearly $420 million domestically,...

‘Jurassic World Rebirth’ Claws Past M. Night Shyamalan’s 76% Rotten Tomatoes Blockbuster and a Massive Box Office Milestone
Image
Having completed a full week of release in theaters worldwide, Universal’s Jurassic World Rebirth has already passed the $200 million mark domestically and the $400 million mark worldwide. The seventh installment of the long-running action-adventure franchise will likely pass the $500 million mark this weekend, as it takes aim at the coveted $1 billion milestone that each of its three predecessors managed to hit in their theatrical runs. Rebirth was conceived as a soft reboot of the franchise, which concluded its previous narrative arc with Jurassic World Dominion only a few years ago.

That movie opened to terrible reviews, and was perceived to have underperformed at the global box office despite having made over $1 billion. It cost a reported $265 million to produce, which was high, but not as high as the reported $432 million that was spent on its predecessor, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. Directed by J.A. Bayona, the film grossed over $1.3 billion worldwide,...

Scarlett Johansson Was Welcomed to the ‘Jurassic World’ Family by Bryce Dallas Howard with a ‘Long Email’
Image
Scarlett Johansson received a special welcome to “Jurassic World” by former franchise lead Bryce Dallas Howard. Johansson, who stars in the latest installment “Jurassic World Rebirth,” told People that Howard was so supportive of her casting.

“When I first got cast, Bryce Dallas Howard reached out to me and was so excited,” Johansson said. “She wrote me a whole long email about her experience and how wonderful the fans were and how that was part of the excitement, joining the ‘Jurassic’ family and having these fans for life.”

Johansson has previously voiced that it was one of her career goals to join the franchise for years. Howard starred in “Jurassic World” (2015), “Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom” (2018), and “Jurassic World Dominion” (2022). Howard told ScreenRant that she might even star in another installment later down the road.

“For myself as a fan, I am so excited for ‘Jurassic World Rebirth.’ I’m going...

Steven Spielberg Had A Simple But Important Note For Jurassic World Rebirth
Image
As the seventh installment in a multi-billion-dollar dinosaur franchise created by Steven Spielberg and Michael Crichton, "Jurassic Park Rebirth" had its creative work cut out for it. On the plus side, there seemed to be little chance that director Gareth Edwards and writer David Koepp (the scribe behind "Jurassic Park" and "The Lost World: Jurassic Park") could do any worse than the dino-locust debacle of "Jurassic World Dominion," but, even though that film grossed over $1 billion like the two "Jurassic World" movies before it, there was a sense among critics and discerning fans that the property was becoming not just stale but even too ridiculous by its own dino-standards.

Bringing in Edwards seemed like a smart move, given his background in visual effects and gift for conjuring vast physical scale. However, the key to the new movie's creative success would lie in doing something completely different from the plodding, critically...

Jurassic World Rebirth Director Confirms Fan Theories About Hybrid Dinosaur
Image
Jurassic World Rebirth is finally here, and director Gareth Edwards has just confirmed a major fan theory about the film's biggest new dinosaur, the Distortus rex. Jurassic World Rebirth sees its main characters go to an island full of experimental dinosaurs, and while many of the film's new additions are cool, the D-Rex is the biggest standout from the movie.

Speaking with Screen Rant's Liam Crowley, Jurassic World Rebirth director Gareth Edwards touched on some of the inspirations of the new mutant dinosaur, confirming that the Xenomorph from Alien and the Rancor from Star Wars were two major inspirations. Edwards also explained that a regular T. Rex was another addition. When asked about the character of the D-Rex by the animators, Edwards said "'go rewatch David Lynch's The Elephant Man.'"

Edwards goes into detail about how the movement and behavior of the D-Rex were decided on,...

Chris Pratt’s $1.3 Billion Hit He Compared to ‘Jaws’ Is a Sleeper Hit in America
Image
Chris Pratt will always be known for playing Star Lord in the MCU, but seven years ago, the actor starred in a controversial sequel that has found sustained streaming success in the last few weeks. Pratt stars alongside Bryce Dallas Howard and Jeff Goldblum in Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, the 2018 sequel to Jurassic World that follows Owen (Pratt) and Claire’s (Howard) journey to save the remaining dinosaurs while also dealing with the most dangerous predator yet. Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom is streaming on Peacock, and it’s one of the most popular movies for the streamer in America, sitting at #3 at the time of writing. The film grossed $1.3 billion globally on a $170 million budget despite “rotten”scores of 47% and 48% from critics and audiences on Rotten Tomatoes.

During a 2018 interview with SlashFilm, Pratt likened Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom toJaws, the 1975 hit directed by Steven Spielberg. Pratt admitted that he felt...

Jurassic World Rebirth Finds A Surprising New Meaning For The Franchise's Dinosaurs
Image
In Steven Spielberg's groundbreaking 1993 blockbuster "Jurassic Park," the billionaire behind the titular hoped-for attraction, John Hammond (Richard Attenborough), is practically buzzing with giddy anticipation at how successful his venture will likely become. He crows that his team who helped bring dozens of extinct species of dinosaurs back to life "spared no expense," and that everything in the park boasts "absolutely spectacular designs." Although the small group of experts Hammond has invited to tour the park are indeed impressed with what he's done, having strong emotional responses to the sights of actual living dinosaurs walking the Earth, they begin to have serious doubts as reality begins to set in. Dr. Ian Malcolm (Jeff Goldblum) sums up the potential folly of Jurassic Park succinctly: "Your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn't stop to think if they should."

"Jurassic Park," both the first movie and Michael Crichton's source novel,...

Jurassic World Rebirth Is A Cry For Help From A Series That's Run Out Of Ideas
Image
When Steven Spielberg's adaptation of Michael Crichton's bestselling sci-fi/horror novel hit theaters on June 11, 1993, the entire motion picture medium was forever changed. James Cameron had given us a tantalizing taste of how seamlessly computer-generated imagery could be integrated into a motion picture via "The Abyss" and "Terminator 2: Judgment Day," but no one was prepared for Spielberg and his visual FX team (which included Cameron collaborator Dennis Muren) to blast the technology seemingly decades into the future by creating photo-realistic dinosaurs. That moment where Sam Neill, Laura Dern, and Jeff Goldblum get their first look at a living, breathing brachiosaurus induced a new kind of awe in moviegoers, and it remains a blessing and a curse that Spielberg was the man at the helm.

The blessing is that the bar was raised so dizzyingly high for photoreal CGI that, in the immediate wake of the film's blockbuster success,...

‘Jurassic World Rebirth’ Brings Dinosaurs Back in a Big Way – By Absolutely Dominating Box Office
Image
The dinosaurs are back, and people are clearly still excited to see them. Jurassic World Rebirth, the newest movie in the long-running franchise, just had a huge opening in theaters. According to The Hollywood Reporter, it’s one of the biggest movie debuts of the year so far, both in the United States and around the world.

This film kicks off a new chapter in the Jurassic series. It’s directed by Gareth Edwards, who is known for Rogue One, and written by David Koepp, the same writer behind the original Jurassic Park from 1993. Instead of continuing where the last trilogy left off, the team behind this one wanted to start fresh.

In North America, the holiday tentpole is on course to post an estimated five-day domestic opening of $141.2 million, including $85.4 million for the three-day weekend, according to Saturday’s estimates. Overseas, it’s estimated that the movie will have...

‘Jurassic World Rebirth’ Roars to Life With Massive Box Office Debut
Image
Dinosaurs are back in a big way, and moviegoers can’t get enough. Jurassic World Rebirth, the latest chapter in the long-running franchise, has stormed into theaters with a huge opening, proving that the Jurassic name still draws massive crowds.

The film opened just before the Fourth of July holiday, and despite mixed reviews from both critics and audiences, it’s doing better than expected.

According to early estimates reported by The Hollywood Reporter, the movie is one of the biggest openings of the year so far, both in the U.S. and worldwide. In North America, the holiday tentpole is on course to post an estimated five-day domestic opening of $141.2 million, including $85.4 million for the three-day weekend, according to Saturday’s estimates. Overseas, it’s estimated that the movie will have an even bigger opening with $171.3 million.

2025 is halfway over, and at this point, I am realizing that most of the movies I was excited about this year have been a disappointment, but that doesn’t mean that there were no good movies released this as there have been some extremely entertaining ones. But for this article we are only compiling the best of the best films that were released as Prime Video originals this year.

Box Office: ‘Jurassic World Rebirth’ Keeps Dino Franchise Alive With $141M U.S. Opening, $312M Globally
Image
The dinos have a new lease on life.

Universal and Amblin’s Jurassic World Rebirth is coming in ahead of expectations at the Fourth of July box office to hatch a new era for the Steven Spielberg-created franchise. In North America, the holiday tentpole is on course to post an estimated five-day domestic opening of $141.2 million, including $85.4 million for the three days, according to Saturday estimates.

That’s the fifth-best showing ever for the holiday, while the three-day gross would mark the fourth-biggest domestic opening of 2025 to date. That’s no small feat considering July Fourth fell on a Friday this year, meaning many moviegoers were distracted by holiday outings on what’s normally a critical day for new films. To boot, the latest Jurassic World pic has received decidedly mixed reviews from both critics and audiences alike. But there’s no dismissing the power of the Jurassic brand,...

‘Jurassic World Rebirth’ Rotten Tomatoes Audience Score Plummets as it Earns Franchise’s Second-Worst CinemaScore
Image
This week finally saw the release of Universal’s biggest bet of the summer, Jurassic World Rebirth. The film debuted on Wednesday in several major territories across the globe, including the United States, where it’s set to deliver a blockbuster box office debut. However, audiences don’t seem to be super-pleased with the film, which was built primarily by the studio, with director Gareth Edwards being brought on board at the last minute. Rebirth stars Scarlett Johansson, Mahershala Ali, and Jonathan Bailey in the lead roles, and is designed as a new reboot of the franchise, after the Jurassic World trilogy ran its course a few years ago.

The previous trilogy witnessed diminishing returns, both critically and commercially, despite huge amounts of money being pumped into it by the studio. It was clear by the time Jurassic World Dominion debuted in 2022 that audiences had mostly checked out. Although the...

Scarlett Johansson in Jurassic World: Rebirth (2025)
A Modest Plea to the ‘Jurassic World’ Franchise: No More Mutant Dinosaurs
Scarlett Johansson in Jurassic World: Rebirth (2025)
[Editor’s note: The following article contains some spoilers for “Jurassic World: Rebirth.”]

He’s the first big bad we meet in Gareth Edwards’ “Jurassic World: Rebirth.” He’s massive. He’s mad. He’s under major lock and key. Wait, is he even a he? Weren’t all the dinosaurs of “Jurassic Park” female to begin with? Nevermind, look how that turned out. He’s the D-Rex! More officially, he’s the Distortus Rex, an absolutely horrifying amalgamation of other dinosaur parts, featuring a massive, bulging cranium, four front arms (only two of which I could personally see in my screening of the film), and enough attitude to power a dozen (relatively) teeny little T-Rex.

But the emphasis here is on the horrifying. Not the terrifying or the scary or frightening, the horrifying. I don’t fear the D-Rex. I pity him. I want him to be left alone. And, perhaps most crucially: I don’t want to look at him.

2025 has been one of the weaker years for the film industry as high-budget films like Captain America: Brave New World and Snow White have failed at both impressing the audience and at the box office. With ‘Jurassic World Rebirth’ in Theaters, Its $1 Billion 29% Rotten Tomatoes Predecessor Is Finding New Life on PVOD
Image
Today, life has found a way back into theaters with the release of Jurassic World Rebirth. Directed by Gareth Edwards of Godzilla and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story fame, the film aims to right the ship in the eyes of fans after the disastrous reception of the franchise's previous installment, Jurassic World Dominion, opting for an approach closer to that of Steven Spielberg's 1983 original. However, while viewers have begun heading to theaters to see the latest round of dino action, the trilogy capper, which received a 29% rating from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, is getting a second life on PVOD. Dominion is currently sitting in tenth place on iTunes' global charts, while Amazon presently has it seventh on its list of most popular films right now, ahead of the original How to Train Your Dragon and Wicked.

Released in 2022, Jurassic World: Dominion generated considerable hype and marketing, four years...

Jurassic World is now available to stream on Tubi. How Jurassic World Rebirth Handles The Wild, Free Dinosaurs From Dominion
Image
This post contains spoilers for "Jurassic World Rebirth."

A mere three years after the release of "Jurassic World Dominion," which was billed as an ending of sorts for the long-running franchise, Universal Pictures has brought the dinosaurs back for another big screen adventure. Directed by Gareth Edwards, the aptly-titled "Jurassic World Rebirth" is billed as a new beginning. It largely delivers on that promise, in no small part by walking back the biggest thing that the previous trilogy tried to do: Namely, making it so that dinosaurs and humans would be truly forced to co-exist alongside one another.

The new film takes place five years after the events of "Dominion," which left dinosaurs running loose with humans all over the world. However, the planet's ecology has proven largely inhospitable to dinosaurs, with many dying off. The remaining dinos mostly live in isolated environments near the equator, which have climates resembling...

How to Watch the ‘Jurassic Park’ Movies in Order
Image
In 1993, Steven Spielberg released a cinematic adaptation of Michael Crichton’s hit novel “Jurassic Park.” Co-written by Crichton and David Koepp, Spielberg’s film remains in high esteem to this day, one of the most rewarding and brilliantly constructed blockbusters in cinema history. Beyond the beauty and fear of the dinosaurs themselves (portrayed through a mix of digital and practical effects that holds up to this day), the film provided poignant commentary on the dangers of mass consumption, expansion and commercialization.

“You read what others had done, and you took the next step,” Jeff Goldblum’s Ian Malcolm says in one of the film’s most iconic scenes. “You stood on the shoulders of geniuses to accomplish something as fast as you could, and before you even knew what you had, you patented it, and packaged it, and slapped it on a plastic lunch box, and now you’re selling...

Jurassic World Rebirth Review: The Franchise’s Stagnation Continues
Image
If you’ve kept up with right-wing tech oligarch Peter Thiel (or at least his interviews) you’ve probably noted his obsession with the term “stagnation.” While I don’t want to give too much credit to a thoroughly evil individual whose company, Palantir, is currently concocting a database of every single American citizen for nefarious government means, I must do a bit of a stopped-clock-is-right-twice-a-day admittance. Stagnation, not innovation, is the norm in modern mainstream cinema––hence why I’m reviewing Jurassic Park 7, which runs off the fumes of a 32-year-old blockbuster. Frankly, one wonders what the world would be like if John Sayles’ rejected script for a Jurassic Park 4 (featuring gun-wielding mercenary dinosaurs sent on rescue missions) had been made. It’s not a high standard to ask, but a single risk-averse decision may have pointed towards Hollywood moving at least incrementally forward.

Where to Watch All the ‘Jurassic Park’ and ‘Jurassic World’ Movies Before ‘Dominion’
Image
When director Steven Spielberg unleashed “Jurassic Park” on audiences in 1993, the sci-fi blockbuster quickly became the highest-grossing film ever at the time – and created a franchise that’s still running today.

With six films in total, the “Jurassic” franchise spans nearly three decades, with four different directors putting their stamps on what the world would look like if dinosaurs walked alongside humans.

Spielberg’s initial adaptation of the Michael Crichton novel showcased visual effects that were groundbreaking at the time, and each successive film in the franchise has attempted to one-up and/or recapture the magical mix of awe and terror that’s so effectively pervasive in the original movie.

With “Jurassic World Rebirth,” a brand new reboot of the franchise, hitting theaters this summer, there’s no time like the present to revisit the franchise. Below, we’ve put together a handy list of where every “Jurassic” movie is currently streaming.

Jurassic World Rebirth
Image
Early on in Jurassic World Rebirth, the seventh film in the Jurassic Park series, a New York billboard depicting T-Rexes in the wild is being whitewashed, the creatures getting airbrushed — well, roller-painted — out of history. While it’s a plot point — we are now in a fictional world rapidly losing interest in dinosaurs — it could also serve as a metaphor for the franchise itself. For, after the Colin Trevorrow era, Gareth Edwards’ film is wiping the slate clean. New characters, new species, new mission, new locales, same reliance on the original John Williams theme for instant wonder. The result, despite the fresh start, adds very little that is novel, but emerges a brisk, uneven, mostly enjoyable romp.

For all the new newness, Rebirth courses with an infectious love of Spielberg’s original. Edwards and original Jurassic Park screenwriter David Koepp have lots of fun playing with the staples of the series: jungle treks,...

Jurassic World Rebirth review | Dino-mite or a saur-y sight?
Image
Rogue One director Gareth Edwards takes over for the Scarlett Johansson-versus-dinosaurs sequel, Jurassic World Rebirth. Our review:

The villain in Jurassic Park isn’t the dinosaurs or the science that brings them back from the grave – it’s the pursuit of profit. In Michael Crichton’s novel and the movies that followed, we’ve repeatedly seen how greed taints everything. As the rather less sympathetic version of John Hammond said in the original book, “Nothing is going to stop me from opening Jurassic Park to all the children of the world… Or, at least, to the rich ones.”

Inevitably, commerce plays a part in the Jurassic franchise’s own existence, and the conundrum for any sequel is how it justifies its making beyond a studio’s desire to generate more cash. The series already faced this multiple times: first in the immediate follow-ups directed by Steven Spielberg and Joe Johnston,...

‘Jurassic World Rebirth’ Review: A New Chapter, Yes, but a Franchise Still Past Its Sell-By Date
Image
There’s a grating meta-ness to Gareth Edwards’s Jurassic World Rebirth that speaks to the filmmakers’ knowledge that they’re at the mercy of pressures to bring something new to a franchise that’s now on its seventh installment. That much is clear from the moment that paleontologist Dr. Henry Loomis (Jonathan Bailey) laments his natural history museum’s declining attendance, as the public’s interest in dinosaurs has waned.

And in case it isn’t, we also get a scene in which Henry learns from a slimy pharmaceutical rep, Martin Krebs (Rupert Friend), about InGen’s creation of mutant dinosaurs on the forbidden island of Ile Saint-Hubert in the Atlantic Ocean. Given its cynical vision of fickle and easily satiated audiences, it’s no wonder that Edwards’s film, as written by David Koepp, settles for offering little that’s outside the box aside from brontosauruses with extra-long...

‘Jurassic World Rebirth’ Review: Scarlett Johansson, Jonathan Bailey and Mahershala Ali Find Signs of Life in 32-Year-Old Dino Franchise
Image
Dr. Henry Loomis, the paleontologist played by Jonathan Bailey in Jurassic World Rebirth, at one point laments the public’s diminished interest in seeing the same old prehistoric creatures. That prompted the bottom line-driven folks at InGen, the billion-dollar biotech corporation that specializes in resurrecting extinct animals, to start crossbreeding new species. “Engineered entertainment” is what Henry calls it. The same descriptor could apply to Gareth Edwards’ new chapter in the cloned dinosaur franchise birthed by Steven Spielberg more than three decades ago. There are some mighty new monsters on the prowl, but this is primarily an assembly of recycled story beats.

Which is not to say the movie doesn’t deliver adrenalized action, excitement and white-knuckle close encounters with giant beasts whose rampaging anger at times gives them a weird kinship to the cruelly exploited carnival attractions of Tod Browning’s Freaks. How can you not feel a little...

Why Colin Trevorrow Didn't Direct Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom
Image

Hollywood really loves a franchise, particularly in the last 20 years. The business has become downright obsessed with keeping a once-beloved series of films alive, often bringing something back that's been dead for several years. Director Colin Trevorrow very successfully brought "Jurassic Park" back to life in 2015 with "Jurassic World." It was, by many measures, as successful as any movie has ever been.

"Jurassic World" made more than $1.6 billion at the box office, becoming one of the biggest movies ever up to that point. Audiences ate it up, and 14 years after the relative disappointment of "Jurassic Park III," the series suddenly had new life. Yet, Trevorrow walked away from the director's chair and didn't return to helm the sequel, which arrived in 2018 in the form of "Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom."

"Jurassic Park is like Star Wars. Different directors can give a different taste to each movie,...

Chris Pratt’s $1.3 Billion Sci-Fi Thriller Is Quietly Dominating Streaming in America
Image
Chris Pratt will always be known for playing Star Lord in the MCU, but another of his most famous projects has returned to streaming charts and is quietly dominating its competition. Pratt stars alongside Bryce Dallas Howard and Jeff Goldblum inJurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, the 2018 dinosaur adventure following Owen and Claire’s journey to rescue the dinosaurs from the island after a volcanic eruption. Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, along with the rest of the Jurassic World movies, is currently streaming on Peacock, and it’s one of the 10 most popular movies on the streamer in several countries, such as the United States and Mexico. The film grossed $1.3 billion at the box office against a $170 million budget, and it earned “rotten” scores of 47% from critics and 48% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes.

After Colin Trevorrow directed the first Jurassic World movie, J.A. Bayona was brought on to helm the sequel, but Universal...

Why The Jurassic World Movies Never Featured Full-On Dinosaur City Chaos
Image
We may receive a commission on purchases made from links.

The "Jurassic World" trilogy, not unlike the "Star Wars" prequel trilogy, is going to go down as a mixed bag in one of the world's biggest franchises. The first movie in the series, directed by Colin Trevorrow, was a massive hit, bringing us back to a fully functioning dinosaur theme park. The sequel, "Fallen Kingdom," literally blew up Isla Nublar and helped set up a world where dinosaurs and humans would be forced to co-exist. 2022's "Dominion" never fully committed to what we thought was going to happen: dinosaurs rampaging in cities across the world. So, why didn't that happen, exactly?

In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Trevorrow was asked about the lack of dinosaurs attacking cities in the "Jurassic World" trilogy. Though "Dominion" largely works to isolate the dinosaurs once again, instead focusing on giant locusts for much of the run time,...

Why Dr. Henry Wu Actor Bd Wong Was Bitter About Steven Spielberg's Jurassic Park
Image
We may receive a commission on purchases made from links.

"Jurassic Park" is one of the most beloved blockbuster movies of all time. More than that, director Steven Spielberg's groundbreaking adaptation of Michael Crichton's novel of the same name was the biggest film of all time at the box office at the time of its release in 1993. It's the kind of movie any actor would be thrilled to have on their resume, even if their role in it was relatively small. That's why it might be surprising to learn that Bd Wong, who played Dr. Henry Wu, was bitter about his role in the film for a long time.

For those who may need a refresher, Dr. Henry Wu is the chief geneticist working with John Hammond at Jurassic Park. In Crichton's novel, Wu is a pretty crucial character. In the movie, however, he's mostly in just one scene,...

Bryce Dallas Howard may be known for her roles in three Jurassic Worldmovies and the 2011 film The Help, but in 2004, she starred alongside a future Oscar winner in M. Night Shyamalan’s The Village. In the movie, Howard plays Ivy Walker, the visually impaired daughter of Elder Edward Walker (William Hurt) in the mystery-thriller that comes complete with Shyamalan’s signature twists and turns.

Howard’s Ivy character was the love interest of Lucius Hunt, played by Joker’sJoaquin Phoenix. Phoenix would go on to win an Academy Award for his portrayal of the DC villain in 2019’s Joker. Howard, who is now starring in the Prime Video film Deep Cover, is now revealing that she had a huge crush on Phoenix when she was a child.

All 6 Joseph Kosinski Movies (Including F1: The Movie), Ranked
Image
At the time of its release, Joseph Kosinski’s “Tron: Legacy” was the most expensive feature film directorial debut of all time, surpassing the record set by J.J. Abrams’ “Mission: Impossible III.” While placing the reins of such a lucrative franchise in the hands of a relative novice may have been perceived as either a potential blunder or a gross example of privilege, Kosinski has consistently proven to be at peace with the moving parts needed to make a modern blockbuster.

A former video game graphics artist and architecture student, Kosinski certainly has benefited from his ability to make eye-popping, visually dynamic set pieces that are grounded in enough practicality to invoke a personal connection. However, Kosinski also has an eye for emotion that many of his contemporaries lack. While other modern blockbuster directors like Jon M. Chu, the Russo Brothers, Zack Snyder, Colin Trevorrow, and Shawn Levy have...

Scarlett Johansson, Jonathan Bailey and ‘Jurassic World Rebirth’ Cast Stun London at World Premiere

The movie’s leads Scarlett Johansson, Mahershala Ali, Jonathan Bailey and Rupert Friend, as well as the director and film producers were in attendance at the glitzy world premiere taking place at the Odeon Luxe in Leicester Square.

Screaming fans flanked the green carpet hoping to catch a glimpse of the talent taking on a brand new Jurassic challenge. Johansson donned a form-fitting pink dress while co-star Bailey kept it casual and reminiscent of the ’90s — when Jurassic Park first released — in a cap and blazer.

“You make a film like this and directors get all the credit,” Edwards told the audience ahead of the screening. “It just isn’t fair,” he said, before introducing the lead cast as well as ensemble players Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, Luna Blaise,...

Flight Of The Navigator | Colin Trevorrow on his cancelled remake
Image
Colin Trevorrow has been chatting about his unsuccessful attempt to get a remake of Flight Of The Navigator moving.

Even before successfully relaunching the Jurassic Park series with 2015’s Jurassic World, Colin Trevorrow was being attached to all kinds of interesting projects, not least because of the success of his charming indie hit, 2012’s Safety Not Guaranteed.

The word on that project was strong enough to lead to Trevorrow finding himself attached to a remake of the 1980s sci-fi adventure film Flight Of The Navigator, a project that ultimately wouldn’t make it past the development stage with Trevorrow at the helm.

Flight Of The Navigator has been in some form of development ever since, with Neil Blomkamp suggesting that he was working on a version around 2017. That was before in 2021 it was publicly announced that the star of Trevorrow’s Jurassic World films, Bryce Dallas Howard was to helm...

'Jurassic World' Director Opens Up About 'Rebirth' and Not Being Involved in the Upcoming Revival
Image
Colin Trevorrow became a worthy successor to previous directors of the Jurassic Park franchise with his Jurassic World movies, but the latest installment is now in the new hands of Gareth Edwards. Recently, Trevorrow shared his opinion on the upcoming revival of the action adventure franchise. Although he is not involved in the upcoming movie, Trevorrow has addressed Jurassic World: Rebirth and the new Jurassic generation while showing pride in what he built during his franchise run.

Trevorrow spoke to The Hollywood Reporter while promoting his newest film, Deep Cover, the action comedy starring Jurassic World's Bryce Dallas Howard. The conversation was mostly based on Deep Cover and his future projects, but Trevorrow also used the opportunity to say that he wasn't surprised when a Jurassic revival was announced. He was the director of 2015's Jurassic World (the highest-grossing film in the franchise) and 2022's Jurassic World Dominion, a...

Image
If you're a fan of everything '80s, you might want to check this out. Colin Trevorrow, the director known for his work in the Jurassic World franchise and films like The Book of Henry and Safety Not Guaranteed, has offered an update on his planned remake of teen sci-fi classic Flight of the Navigator. While the film is far from entering production, Trevorrow says that he and potential director Bryce Dallas Howard are "connected on it."

Years ago, we reported that a remake was in the works, and Howard (director of The Mandalorian and Star Wars: Skeleton Crew episodes) was attached to the project and planning it for a Disney+ release. However, Trevorrow had been pushing for a remake since the early 2010s, meaning he's likely involved in Howard's unconfirmed project. The duo have been working together since 2015's Jurassic World until the present day (Howard is one of...

Former Star Wars Episode IX Director Reveals Which Series Reinvigorated His Interest in the Franchise
Image
It's been a long time since Colin Trevorrow checked back into the Star Wars galaxy, but Andor has piqued his curiosity.

While speaking to The Hollywood Reporter about Prime Video's new action comedy Deep Cover, which he co-wrote and produced, Trevorrow addressed how he feels revisiting Lucasfilm's franchise since departing from Star Wars: Episode IX. The director confirmed that Tony Gilroy's acclaimed Star Wars spy thriller is on his radar, adding, "My son and I have both decided that we are going to watch all of Andor this summer."

He did, however, acknowledge, "It has been a struggle for me to engage with anything Star Wars-related just on an emotional level. So, to the team that made Andor, I guess I can say that you're the ones who've finally brought me back in. I know that what they've done is extraordinary, and I can't wait to watch it.

The 2025 summer movie season is in full swing, with big-ticket franchise flicks like "Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning," "Lilo & Stitch," and "How to Train Your Dragon" doing great runs at the box office. Hopefully, your first instinct is to hit your local multiplex, because movies are made to be seen in theaters, and exhibitors could certainly use your business. But the streamers are always out there generating their own content, and sometimes they cough up something worth watching.

Last summer, Netflix gave us what could've been one of the year's biggest blockbusters in "Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F," and they'll no doubt attract loads of eyeballs a month from now when they unveil Adam Sandler's long-awaited "Happy Gilmore 2." Other streaming movies on the menu this summer include "Echo Valley," Spike Lee's "Highest 2 Lowest" (which earned raves at last month's Cannes Film Festival), and "The Old Guard 2.

Chris Pratt in Jurassic World (2015)
Colin Trevorrow is ready to let Star Wars back into his heart, thanks to Andor
Chris Pratt in Jurassic World (2015)
Once upon a time, Jurassic World Dominion director Colin Trevorrow was set to helm what would eventually become Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. He co-wrote the screenplay with Derek Connolly, but after two years of development, creative differences led to his departure, with J.J. Abrams stepping in to take over. Unsurprisingly, the experience left Trevorrow somewhat disillusioned with the franchise. But now, he’s taking his first step back into that galaxy far, far away—with plans to finally watch Andor.

“I’m going to,” Trevorrow told THR when asked if he had plans to watch Andor. “It’s not that I don’t know it’s brilliant; I do know that. My son and I have both decided that we are going to watch all of Andor this summer. But I do have to be honest; it has been a struggle for me to engage with anything Star Wars...
