Image
Grinderman, the side project of Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, have announced they will be reissuing their full discography on July 18th.

The Grinderman lineup is comprised of Cave with fellow Bad Seeds Warren Ellis, Martyn Casey, and Jim Sclavunos. The quartet has released three albums: their self-titled 2007 debut, 2010’s Grinderman 2, and 2012’s Grinderman 2 Rmx. Each project will be available on eco-conscious black vinyl and digisleeve CD editions. Pre-orders are ongoing.

Formed in 2005, Grinderman was created to explore a more raw, primal sound than The Bad Seeds and lean closer to Cave’s earlier post-punk project, The Birthday Party. Their debut album, Grinderman, was universally acclaimed upon its release and spawned the singles “No Pussy Blues” and “Get It On.” Its follow-up, Grinderman 2, took a more psychedelic approach, while Grinderman 2 Rmx featured reinterpretations from artists including Robert Fripp, Josh Homme, Unkle, and Nick Zinner.

Fontaines D.C.’s Grian Chatten Joins Pogues to Perform ‘Streams of Whiskey’
Image
Thanks to the enduring allure of “Fairytale of New York,” the spirit of the Pogues’ Shane MacGowan is in the air once more. But MacGowan’s impact and legacy were also heard onstage in Dublin last night.

At the city’s 13,000-seat 3Arena, surviving members of the Pogues commemorated the 40th anniversary of the band’s debut album, Red Roses for Me, by playing the album start to finish with an array of guests. At a show that found a new generation of Irish rockers and even one rapper paying...

Marianne Faithfull Covers Album Features Iggy Pop, Shirley Manson, Cat Power, and More
Image
Iggy Pop, Shirley Manson, and Cat Power are a few of the artists who’ve contributed to The Faithful: A Tribute to Marianne Faithfull, an upcoming covers compilation honoring the legendary English singer. Before it’s out in full December 8th, Tanya Donelly & The Parkington Sisters have shared their rendition of “This Little Bird.”

Also featuring fellow icons like Peaches, Lydia Lunch, Bush Tetras, Donita Sparks, and more, The Faithful is a benefit album that hits especially close to home: All profits will go directly to assist Faithfull as she recovers from long Covid. Donnelly and the Parkingtons do their forebear justice with their cover of “This Little Bird,” with layered vocal harmonies and delicate, complex string arrangements.

“Marianne’s voice has always been one of my favorite instruments, from childhood through today, and her music and spirit have been life-long inspirations,” Donnelly says in a press release. “I wanted...

Iggy Pop, Cat Power Top Marianne Faithfull Benefit Album
Image
Two years ago, Marianne Faithfull told Rolling Stone about her ongoing battle with Covid-19. “It’s terrible,” she said. “I got long-term Covid, where you get better from the virus, but you have leftover [symptoms]. Apparently, they now think that you do get better from long-term Covid; it’s not forever. That is good.”

To help Faithfull with mounting health costs, more than a dozen artists have recorded covers of songs for a benefit album, The Faithful: A Tribute to Marianne Faithfull, for her. Cat Power and Iggy Pop teamed to...

“Ratso is a kind of living exercise in perversity,” Cave says in the trailer. “And this is very much a Ratso thing to do; to put out a strong album like this, I think it’s an incredibly audacious move on Ratso’s behalf and I’m proud to be a part of it.”

Nicole Atkins Is Done Playing It Safe on ‘Domino’
Nicole Atkins
Nicole Atkins takes chances with the sleek new song, “Domino.” The track is the second single off the singer-songwriter’s upcoming album Italian Ice, out April 17th on Single Lock Records.

Inspired by Prince, the Rolling Stones’ “Miss You” and the gritty glamour of Atkins’ hometown of Asbury Park, New Jersey, the disco-tinged track relies on a heavy groove to deliver the message: “I’m not gonna play/safe and sound/when the world comes tumbling down.”

Atkins dropped the album’s lead single “Captain” last month, which featured Spoon...

The track is a rich, country-tinged ballad that boasts backing vocals from Spoon’s Britt Daniel and finds Atkins offering a struggling partner a helping hand: “And when you’re found a wreck,” she sings, “I’ll pull you on deck/I can be your captain for once.”

Nick Cave at an event for Lawless (2012)
Nick Cave Looks for Peace and Finds Hope on ‘Ghosteen’
Nick Cave at an event for Lawless (2012)
It’s a rare thing to see an artist’s worldview change overnight. For decades, Nick Cave has been goth rock’s hyperliterate poet laureate, famous for his intricately molded stories about rogues and “badlanders” all in the throes of anguish. (He has also always written beautiful love songs.) But where writing about doom and despair once seemed like a lark — see “Stagger Lee,” John Finn’s Wife,” Murder Ballads, etc. — the freak death of his 15-year-old son Arthur four years ago rightfully shook him to his core. His last album,...

The Luck Reunion at Willie Nelson’s Texas ranch has become an annual tradition, as well as something of an escape for a lucky few from the crowded South by Southwest conference in nearby Austin. Set for March 14th, the 2019 Luck Reunion will feature performances by Nelson, Steve Earle & the Dukes, Mavis Staples, Low Cut Connie and Nathaniel Rateliff, among numerous others.

With performances happening on five different stages, the 2019 Luck Reunion offers a wide array of sounds, from country to soul, rock to blues. Other performers at the event...

Tender & The Fury
Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds Beacon Theatre, NYC June 15, 2017

Much is being written that Nick Cave's current tour of Skeleton Tree may be his best yet. Seeing Mr. Cave and The Bad Seeds' performance last night at the Beacon Theatre in New York City, I would agree. Playing every song from that album except "Rings of Saturn" plus another eleven classic songs (set list here) from his catalog, it was a show that will be difficult to rival by any touring act this year or quite possibly until Mr. Cave decides to tour again. Quite remarkable given that he's a few months shy of his 60th year on Earth.

Channeling both rage and ragged beauty, he is singer of staggering charisma. Plunging himself into the open arms of adoring fans almost from the start, his rich, booming baritone never missed a note in any of songs, even those...

Nick Cave at an event for Lawless (2012)
Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds have unveiled a previously-unreleased song 'Give Us A Kiss'.

The track features in upcoming film 20,000 Days on Earth.

It is released as a digital single today (September 4), backed with 'Jubilee Street' (Live from The Sydney Opera House). A limited edition 10" vinyl follows on November 10.

"'Jubilee Street' forced its way into our film," said directors Iain Forsyth and Jane Pollard.

"We'd planned to end with 'Push The Sky Away' and its pertinent lyrics about rock 'n' roll getting you right down to your soul; but after the band played 'Jubilee Street' at Sydney Opera House, we didn't stand a chance.

"Only four songs in and there was Nick, transforming in front of us. Our lives haven't been the same since."

Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds are Nick Cave, Warren Ellis, Martyn Casey, Thomas Wydler, Jim Sclavunos, Conway Savage, Barry Adamson and George Vjestica.
