President Kirkman “really screwed” up his State of the Union address to the nation — but that doesn’t mean he’s ready to throw in the towel on his first presidential campaign. Just yet, anyway.
In the 2-minute trailer for Season 3 of Netflix’s “Designated Survivor,” Kirkman (Kiefer Sutherland) has to face a political reality he’s never come across before: campaigning.
Per the streaming service: “What does it take to make a leader? What price will he be willing to pay? This season will explore today’s world of campaigning, smear tactics, debates, campaign finance and “fake news.” Democracy, as we know it, will hang in the balance.”
The high-stakes political thriller, which was picked up by Netflix last fall after being canceled at ABC, stars Sutherland as a low-level cabinet member who is suddenly catapulted to the position of President of the United States after a devastating terrorist...

There is a lot to process in the first full trailer for Season 3 of Designated Survivor, which hits Netflix on Friday, June 7.
For starters, you’ll see Tom Kirkman (played by Kiefer Sutherland) wonder if he has already screwed up his reelection campaign. You’ll also see who his pick for a running mate is… and the crisis that results. Hannah (Maggie Q) is offered a plum new gig with apparently very high stakes, and Seth (Kal Penn) unleashes quite a tirade about the state of journalism from the press room. In addition to Sutherland, Penn and Q, returning cast...

Beginning a TV series with everyone in the presidential line of succession being murdered in an explosion sets some pretty high expectations for the rest of the series. After two seasons of navigating the aftereffects of that consequential debut episode, the President is making his way to Netflix.
After a two-season run on ABC, the political drama is launching Season 3 with its first episodes being made directly for the streaming platform. The first trailer for the new season follows the public fallout after President Tom Kirkman (Kiefer Sutherland) derails his own bid for reelection with a confrontational State of the Union speech. Throwing his anger directly toward Congress has soured public opinion and caused the Kirkman campaign to second-guess its overall strategy.
The uncertainty looks like it’s also causing rifts for Kirkman’s staff. Stalwart speechwriter and now-press secretary Seth Wright (Kal Penn) seems to be taking the same...

President Tom Kirkman’s re-election campaign will begin on Friday, June 7 when Season 3 of Designated Survivor is released by Netflix.
The premiere date reveal comes nearly eight months after the onetime ABC series was rescued by the streaming giant. Watch a new “catch-up” video above.
“Creatively, we’ve had a lot of behind-the-scenes churn on the show in terms of the number of showrunners involved,” then-abc entertainment chief Channing Dungey explained last May after axing the Kiefer Sutherland-led drama. “We were less confident with the creative path forward than the other shows we brought back.”
