A Rare Conversation With Corbin, the Godfather of ‘Sadboy’ Rap
Image
“Do I have to be a tortured artist?” asks the singer Corbin, sitting under a canopy of colorful umbrellas on an overcast day in Los Angeles. “Unfortunately, all of the music that I’ve made, that I like, I was not in a good place. The moments making the music were good, but everything around it was … not.”

It is a Thursday in late April, and Corbin is drinking a cup of coffee on the patio of a bicycle-themed cafe next to the L.A. river, talking about the “very sharp,...

‘The Righteous Gemstones’: Adam DeVine & Tony Cavalero on Capping Series With Kelvin-Keefe Wedding (Video)
Image
[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for The Righteous Gemstones Season 4 Episode 9, “That the Man of God May Be Complete.”] The Righteous Gemstones capped off a four-season run with quite a finale episode, particularly when it came to fan-favorite couple Kelvin (Adam DeVine) and Keef (Tony Cavalero), who declared their love for one another in an epic wedding ceremony. As viewers saw in the installment titled, “That the Man of God May Be Complete,” the Gemstones came together with Lori (Megan Mullally) and her son Corey (Seann William Scott) and his wife Jana (Arden Myrin) at their lake house, Galilee Gulch, as they reflected on their bonds following the death of Lori’s ex Cobb (Michael Rooker). But after some songs and bonding, Corey made things super awkward when he asked the Gemstones for seven million dollars to help buy his late dad’s alligator farm. When they refused to do so, the tension grew exponentially. Corey...

Drill Pioneer Young Chop Is Back on Some ‘Cool Shit’
Image
When I open my Zoom session with Chicago producer Young Chop, his display photo is a picture of him shirtless, flashing a wad of cash. “Boy, that ain’t never your Zoom picture!” his manager Jessie “Jay Boogie” Green jokes. Chop flashes a beaming grin when he turns his camera on, riding in the passenger seat while traveling through his native Chicago. His trademark locs are gone. Instead, he’s rocking a small Afro. He says he took the money-flashing photo at 18, in 2012, after reaping the rewards from his work with Chief Keef,...

Gamma’s Gains: Partnerships With Snoop Dogg, Sexyy Red Bring New Revenue Streams to Company Valued at $420 Million
Image
When Larry Jackson announced the launch of gamma. in March 2023, he instantly made music business history. Although Jackson had a long and storied past as an executive at RCA Records, where he rose through the A&r ranks under the guidance of Clive Davis, and then at Apple Music, where his position as head of content helped the tech giant align with the likes of Nicki Minaj and Drake, his arrival as an independent with funding (Eldridge, Apple, A24 and Alpha Wave Capital invested in the initial seed round) assured the greater entertainment complex would be paying attention.

Black ownership is a distinction Jackson holds dear, and it has resonated with gamma artists, too — like Usher, who was dropped by his label, RCA Records and signed with gamma., going on to headline the most-watched Super Bowl halftime show ever in 2024. That guiding principle has extended to partnerships outside of or adjacent to music,...

Susanna Hoffs, Elvis Costello Cover the Stones’ ‘Connection’ for Keith Richards’ Birthday
Image
The Bangles’ Susanna Hoffs and Elvis Costello are celebrating Keith Richards’ 81st birthday with a new cover of the (primarily) Keef-penned Rolling Stones cut “Connection.”

Hoffs and Costello’s rendition of the track retains the original 1967 song’s punchy energy, while imbuing it with some more ramshackle jangle, as well as a whole lot of tender, sweet harmonies. Hoffs tells Rolling Stone that she got to do the “Keith part” on the cover (ostensibly referring to the lead guitar riff and vocals), quipping she and Costello “both wanted to do the Keith part,...

‘Teen Mom’ Fans Roast Jenelle Evans & New Man
Image
Teen Mom fans are roasting Jenelle Evans and her new man, August Keen. Though they had allegedly stopped seeing each other, it appears that they have reconciled. They posted a photo posing together and looked very happy. Of course, fans did not care for them in any capacity. Keep reading to see what followers have to say.

Teen Mom Fans Roast Jenelle Evans & New Man

Jenelle Evans returned to Teen Mom: The Next Chapter after her split from David Eason. Some fans felt she and David only parted ways so she could get back on television. The reason she was fired from MTV was because of David and the fact he killed the family dog, Nugget in 2019. Another reason followers believed the two split was so she could have custody of her son, Jace again after he had been removed from her home. Once she was welcomed back to MTV,...

Chief Keef Enters Legendary Status With ‘Almighty So 2’
Image
When Chief Keef released his mixtape Almighty So in 2013, Obama was still president and the then-18-year-old Chicago Mc was something of a symbol for street violence, viral fame, and rap’s new cacophonous young generation. The tape, while far from a critical darling, solidified Keef, who’d risen to fame with his hit single “Don’t Like,” released when he was just 16, as a moment-defining talent. Fast forward more than a decade, two presidents, and a “vibe shift” later and Keef, now 29, has begun to age gracefully into an elder statesman of the genre.

Tekashi 6ix9ine: A Timeline of Terrible Behavior
Image
For as long as Tekashi 6ix9ine has been in the public eye, he’s been embroiled in significant controversy and legal issues, including beef with an extensive list of rappers such as 50 Cent, Trippie Redd, Chief Keef and Ludacris, and an equally notable arrest record.

The trolling rapper took the internet by storm in the late 2010s as a major streaming act with platinum hits including breakout single “Gummo” and the Nicki Minaj collaborations “Fefe” and “Trollz,” but in recent years, controversies like his 2018 racketeering arrest – and subsequent...

Drake Drops New Album For All the Dogs: Stream
Image
Drake has returned with his eighth studio album, For All the Dogs. Stream the album via Apple Music or Spotify below.

Spanning 23 tracks, the album features appearances by Sza, Bad Bunny, J. Cole, 21 Savage, and more. It arrives a day after its latest single, “8Am in Charolette,” which dropped on Thursday, October 5th, and includes Drizzy taking thinly veiled shots at his longtime sparring partner, Kanye West.

Drake has been teasing For All the Dogs for some time now. In June, when he was putting out his poetry book, Titles Ruin Everything, he ran ads in newspapers like the New York Times, NY Post, Los Angeles Times, and others, which included a Qr code leading to titlesruineverything.com. Going to the website revealed the album’s title and the following message: “I made an album to go with the book. They say they miss the old Drake, girl don’t tempt me.

The Righteous Gemstones Costume Designer On Oyster Costumes And Hype Priests
Image
The Righteous Gemstones is back and started out strong with a season 3 premiere that introduced new character power dynamics, new challenges, and, of course, new super church-related chaos. The third season will run nine episodes in keeping with the length of both previous seasons. All the principal cast members are back, including series creator Danny McBride as Jesse Gemstone, John Goodman as his on-screen father Dr. Eli Gemstone, and the hilarious Edi Patterson as Judy Gemstone.

A new face to the Gemstone family, at least behind the scenes, is that of costume designer Christina Flannery. A self-proclaimed fan of the show, Flannery jumped into the third season with abandon, creating unforgettable looks fit for doomsday preppers, Smut Busters, and the Gemstone family itself. Using a mix of designer clothing and built outfits, Flannery managed to both carry on and add her own unique flair to the work of original series costume designer Sarah Trost.

Lil Durk Balances Chiraq Realism and Global Pop Ambition on ‘Almost Healed’
Image
“Morning time, I get on my knees, I pray to Allah/Forgive me for the shit that I did,” harmonizes Lil Durk on “Pelle Coat,” a track from his new album, Almost Healed. The 30-year-old Chicago rapper has steadily gathered momentum ever since he signed with Def Jam in 2013. He’s arguably the most commercially viable proponent of drill music, and that success allows him to float above the noise that roils heated discussions about the homegrown subgenre, even as he navigates the kind of industry bullshit — a long-running beef...
