'Ready or Not' Sequel Adds MCU Star Kathryn Newton To Cast
Image
One of the better horror comedies of the past few years, Ready or Not was a hit with audiences when it released in theaters in 2019. Fans have anxiously anticipated updates on a Ready or Not 2 for several years, but the project was a slow-moving process despite the original's success. Made with a $6 million budget, it grossed $58 million worldwide, a major win for the relatively small production, so it's not a shocker that a sequel was eventually greenlit. However, the time has finally come for some progress, and another rising horror star has been added to the mix to lead the new Ready or Not alongside Samara Weaving.

Deadline reports that Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania star Kathryn Newton has joined the cast of the Ready or Not sequel, which will once again feature Weaving in the lead role. No stranger to the genre, Newton reunites with Radio Silence after previously starring in 2024's Abigail.

Paul Giamatti To Play Iconic Paranormal Radio Host Art Bell in New Biopic
Image
If you grew up a fan of the paranormal in the '90s, then you’ll easily recognize the name Art Bell. The iconic radio host of Coast to Coast Am talked long into the night with his guests, discussing everything from ghosts and aliens, to time travel and Bigfoot. Now, Academy Award-nominee Paul Giamatti is set to portray the late Bell in a new biopic from Ready or Not and Abigail directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett.

Per Deadline, the untitled project with Giamatti in the lead is now in the works, with studios like Amazon and Warner Bros. vying for the pitch. The script is being written by Sam Chalsen (TV's Sleepy Hollow) and Nelson Greaves (Unfriended), with Sophie Cassidy's 2.0 Entertainment producing along with Jeff Katz, the latter of whom is an accomplished talk radio host in his own right, and a big fan of Bell.

Ready Or Not Ending Explained
Image
Ready or Not's ending reveals the complex rules of the celebrated horror film's deadly game of hide-and-seek. Directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett (Devil's Due), Ready or Not stars Samara Weaving as Grace, a beautiful bride marrying into the fabulously wealthy Le Domas family. Immediately after saying "I do", Grace learns from her new husband Alex (Mark O'Brien) that she must play a game at midnight as part of their eccentric tradition for anyone new joining the family.

A gleefully entertaining black comedy crossed with gruesome survival horror, Ready or Not is layered with a complex set of rules and mythology that is revealed throughout Grace's ordeal with her in-laws from hell. According to the Le Domas dynasty, Grace must survive the night to gain acceptance into the family — as if she would still want to be a part of it after her nightmarish post-wedding ordeal. The sadistic...

“Lowlifes”: Film Review – Striking the Perfect Balance Between Humor, Horror, and Gore
Image
“Lowlifes” is a horror movie directed by Tesh Guttikonda and Mitch Oliver. It stars Amanda Fix, Matthew MacCaull, Brenna Llewellyn, Elyse Levesque and Josh Zaharia.

“Lowlifes” is not the first of its kind, nor has it been created to revolutionize the history of cinema. This film is acutely self-aware, consciously part of its own genre, and offers us a whimsically macabre form of entertainment. It cleverly references numerous horror films, providing a kind of meticulously crafted homage to “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre” (1974) – only with a twist.

Challenging the conventional slasher film narrative, it presents us with another slasher film. Yet, it successfully elicits plenty of smiles with its dark, very dark, humor.

Plot

A family from Los Angeles crosses paths with some “very bad” boys in a remote town in the United States. Initially, the family members are terrified, but we soon find out the “bad guys” are not who we were led to believe.

Andie MacDowell, Adam Brody, Nicky Guadagni, John Ralston, Elyse Levesque, Melanie Scrofano, Mark O'Brien, Kristian Bruun, Samara Weaving, Daniela Barbosa, Celine Tsai, and Hanneke Talbot in Ready or Not (2019)
“Ready or Not” directors Tyler Gillett and Matt Bettinelli-Olpin are ready for their horror movie’s sequel — and they say the new script is a masterpiece.

The collaborators and producing partner Chad Villella (aka Radio Silence as a trio) told Entertainment Weekly in an interview out Monday that they’ve been working on “Ready or Not 2” since the original came out in 2019. Plus, it sounds like they’ve got an “absolute f—king banger” on their hands.

“It’s getting figured out,” Gillett explained about the film, which has yet to be officially greenlit. “That’s what we’ll say: ‘Ready or Not 2’ is getting figured out. What we can say is that there is a script that is an absolute f—ing banger of a sequel. And however it gets made, and in whatever capacity we are helping get it made, we are so excited that it’s happening.

Ready or Not 2 Reportedly in Development, Samara Weaving to Return
Image
Searchlight Pictures’ hit horror comedy Ready or Not is reportedly getting a sequel, after nearly five years since its theatrical release.

According to The InSneider, lead star Samara Weaving is expected to reprise her memorable role as Grace in Ready or Not 2, which is currently in development. Weaving’s character was last seen by fans walking out of a burning mansion after a night of chaos and terror at the hands of her husband’s wealthy devil-worshiping family. In addition, Escape Room director Adam Robitel is also reportedly in negotiations to helm the sequel. So far, Robitel’s directing credits have only consisted of horror movies, including 2014’s The Taking of Deborah Logan and Sony’s Escape Room movies.

Ready or Not 2 finds a director in Escape Room’s Adam Robitel
Image
Ready or Not was a deliciously twisted play on the concept of meeting the family of one’s fiancée. Samara Waving plays a young woman who is invited on the night of her wedding by her new husband’s rich, eccentric family to participate in a time-honored tradition that turns into a lethal game with everyone fighting for their survival. The horror comedy also starred Adam Brody, Mark O’Brien, Elyse Levesque, Henry Czerny, and Andie MacDowell and was directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, who have gone on to direct Scream (2022) and Scream VI.

Ready or Not was written by Guy Busick and R. Christopher Murphy. However, Bettinelli-Olpin and Gillett are currently involved with a new Universal Monsters project, so they will not be returning for Ready or Not 2. Instead, ComingSoon.net reports that Escape Room director Adam Robitel will be taking the reins for the sequel. The scoop comes from industry source,...

Review: CSI: Vegas Season 3, Episode 3 Brings the Show Back
Image
The following contains major spoilers from CSI: Vegas Season 3, Episode 3, "Rat Packed," which debuted Sunday, March 3 on CBS.

One of the reasons that the original CSI: Crime Scene Investigation was so appealing was Las Vegas: a different setting than the usual New York or Los Angeles procedurals. Over the years, the show made excellent use of its Sin City location, and CSI: Vegas has largely done the same. Season 3, Episode 3, "Rat Packed," features a case that's firmly Las Vegas and would have worked perfectly as a classic CSI story, and that gets the season back on track.

At the same time, Marisa Tam's script offers up the final resolution to Josh Folsom's ongoing story arc -- at least technically. Folsom faces a review board to determine his future as a CSI, but the episode makes clear that their ruling is both a period on that sentence and a jumping-off...

‘Disquiet’ VOD Review
Image
Stars: Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Elyse Levesque, Trezzo Mahoro, Lochlyn Munro, Garry Chalk, Rachelle Goulding | Written and Directed by Michael Winnick

Disquiet is defined as “a feeling of anxiety or worry”, and it’s something one often feels when in a hospital even if they’re just visiting. So imagine what Sam is feeling when he wakes up in a hospital with nobody answering the call button. Even worse, the patient in the next bed tries to strangle him, then chases him into the hall where Sam stabs him repeatedly with a scalpel, only for the body to vanish.

When a nurse does arrive she vanishes as soon as he looks away. And then the psycho guy returns, even ripping open the roof of the elevator trying to get at Sam. After escaping once again he has flashbacks to the accident that put him in the hospital.

That all takes place...

Disquiet Review: Lifeless Thriller Never Recovers From Its Poor Script
Image
Movies are the product of multiple elements working in unison, and in the very best of them, everything is firing on all cylinders. Usually, if one or two aspects aren't so great, quality in other places can rescue the viewing experience. Who hasn't been drawn into a lackluster story by winning performances and a moving score, or forgiven obvious budgetary constraints because of creative directing and editing? But, as Disquiet unfortunately demonstrates, it is perhaps most difficult to come back from a truly bad script. It forces the actors to create compelling characterization where there isn't any and the filmmaking to build tension as the dialogue constantly deflates it, only for all that effort to end in an unearned, unsatisfying climax anyway. An uphill battle in the best of cases, this film manages no such redemption, leaving little reason to recommend it.

Disquiet opens with some blunt voiceover from Sam...

Quantum Leap Ep 11 Has A Great Stargate Easter Egg You Might've Missed
Image
Warning: Contains Spoilers for Quantum Leap episode 11The Quantum Leap revival is full of subtle and not-so-subtle nods to other shows and cultural reference points, but episode 11 featured a Stargate Easter egg that even eagle-eyed viewers may have missed. The Raymond Lee-led vehicle has so far featured trips to the 1930s, outer space, and everything in between. And yet, despite the lead's time-traveling exploits, it's arguably in the show's smaller moments that it is at its strongest.

Quantum Leap episode 11's Stargate Easter egg is no exception. In a move that will delight fans of the famous sci-fi franchise, Quantum Leap season 1 introduced a new character with tangential ties to Stargate's legacy. While the connection may be more tenuous than other more explicit genre homages, it builds on a trend already firmly established in the reboot – using characters and character names to link both to the original show and other well-known franchises.

Creepy Hospital Thriller 'Disquiet' Trailer with Jonathan Rhys Meyers
Image
"Who the hell are they?!" Paramount has revealed an official trailer for a mystery thriller titled Disquiet, the latest from a filmmaker named Michael Winnick. This is another one of these low quality films being dumped on VOD, so many of them dropping everywhere nowadays. The direct-to-video supernatural thriller about a man trapped in a hospital with no exits trying to escape the mysterious beings trapped in there with him. He's haunted by "sinister forces that have no intention of letting him leave." Jonathan Rhys Meyers stars as Sam, along with Rachelle Goulding, Elyse Levesque, Lochlyn Munro, Garry Chalk, Trezzo Mahoro, Anita Brown, and Bradley Stryker. This looks so bad, it's not even worthy of being described as "made for TV" quality, it's even worse than that, folks. Ugh why are there so many films like this recently. ›››

Ready or Not Ending Explained
David Crow Aug 21, 2019

We examine that deliciously absurd Ready or Not ending and what it has to say about class, marriage, and getting to know your in-laws.

This article contains Ready or Not spoilers. We have a spoiler free review here.

In-laws are the worst, right? It certainly will be one of several takeaways Grace (Samara Weaving) carries from her brief marriage into the Le Domas brood. While the actual contract between her and Alex Le Domas (Mark O’Brien) turned out to be a short one, it had memories that’ll last a lifetime. Just think how nice it’ll be to reflect on that time he revealed to her that his family practices ritualistic sacrifice to the Dark One, although they call him “Mr. Le Bail?” Or there was that time her brother-in-law saved her life long enough so that she could smash his mother’s face in.

Ready Or Not Review
Radio Silence’s Ready Or Not raises the bar for any horror comedy that dares challenge “Milton Bradley’s Most Dangerous Game.” A bloody vicious, bloody hilarious, and bloody freakin’ outrageous winner. Directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett roll the dice on matrimonial manhunts, but success needn’t gambler’s odds. Samara Weaving has been destined for Scream Queen glory ever since The Babysitter (then Mayhem), and Ready Or Not completes a trilogy of performances uncontested by measurements of Ellen Ripley or Laurie Strode mojo. Instructions are clear, rules cleverly adhered to and violence of the utmost remorseless brutality – 2019’s summer movie season closes on top scores.

Grace (Samara Weaving) has, or will soon have, any girl’s dream life. She’s about to wed the man of her dreams, Alex (Mark O’Brien), at his family’s extravagant estate. Champagne flows, attendees fawn over the beautiful bride, but night...

“Ready Or Not” Is A Horror Comedy Riot
A little out of nowhere, Ready or Not has gotten on the radar of the film community. A few months ago, a trailer dropped and really caught some interest on the internet. Well, having seen the movie last month, I can vouch for it being worth all the presumed fuss. Not only is the flick a really fun little horror offering, it’s also arguably one of the funniest films of 2019. It’s literally a riot, with one of the best endings of the year, genre be damned. If you have a predilection for dark humor, this is going to be your jam in a big way. The movie is a genre hybrid, set on what should be the happiest day in the life of our protagonist Grace (Samara Weaving). She’s marrying Alex Le Domas (Mark O’Brien), the love of her life. Beyond that, she’s now entering...
