Steven Knight certainly knows his way around a captivating historical drama. Hot on the heels of Sas: Rogue Heroes and almost three years since Peaky Blinders ended on the small screen, the Brummie writer is back with another excellent British series, once again based on fascinating real-life characters and settings. But while the big draw is undoubtedly Boiling Point and This Is England icon Stephen Graham’s transformation into a bulky bare-knuckle boxer, Knight also lays the foundations for an engaging larger ensemble.
Elements that are synonymous with Knight’s previous shows are here in abundance. There are plenty of gripping developments amongst the numerous schemes and deadly rivalries, along with a Peaky Blinders-esque family pub. Strong social and political commentary is also woven throughout, with a marked divide between the East End’s struggling working class and the aristocracy of the West End.

Steven Knight’s A Thousand Blows often calls to mind HBO’s Warrior. They both take place in an inner-city slum at the end of the 19th century, though here its Victorian London rather than San Francisco. And both follow a newly arrived immigrant, in this case Jamaican boxer Hezekiah (Malachi Kirby), as he contends with discrimination, inequality, and criminality in his new home, often resulting in hand-to-hand combat. But while they may share a similar style, a combination of lackluster fight scenes and thin characterization ensures that A Thousand Blows never quite makes it into Warrior’s weight class.
Upon arriving in London, Hezekiah quickly finds himself drawn into the world of underground boxing, a sinister realm presided over by brothers Treacle Goodson (James Nelson Joyce) and Sugar (Stephen Graham). Before he knows it, he’s embroiled in a bitter blood feud with Sugar and recruited by criminal queenpin...

Daisy Ridley has insisted 'Star Wars: New Jedi Order' will be "worth the wait".The 32-year-old actress was revealed to be reprising her role as Rey in the movie at Star Wars Celebration in April 2023, but the project has seen a number of changes, with various writers attached to the project, putting its release date in doubt. However, Daisy has insisted the "freedom" surrounding the movie not having to rush production is a good thing and the changes, which have most recently seen 'The Bourne Ultimatum' scribe George Nolfi brought on board to write the script, will be "worthwhile".She told The Hollywood Reporter:"People have talked about it a lot that the release date often affects films and how quickly things go into production. So the freedom to make sure that this ['New Jedi Order'] script is the best way to tell this story is wonderful, and...

In October 2022, it was reported that Damon Lindelof and Justin Britt-Gibson were co-writing a new Star Wars movie, tentatively dubbed ‘New Jedi Order’ with Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy as the director. The film was supposed to take place after the sequel trilogy, possibly featuring characters from those films.
However, by March 2023, Lindelof and Britt-Gibson left, and Steven Knight replaced them as the screenwriter. Daisy Ridley was confirmed to return as Rey in April 2023, but by October 2024, Steven Knight also left, and George Nolfi was hired to write the screenplay, with filming now expected to start in late 2025.
The movie has seen numerous delays and problems with writers and quite frankly we have no idea in what state the movie currently is.

Daisy Ridley is back in action mode with Martin Campbell’s Cleaner.
The English actor is coming off two years’ worth of acclaimed work in a number of different genres, including the biographical sports drama Young Woman and the Sea, the offbeat romantic dramedy Sometimes I Think About Dying and her self-generated neo-noir Magpie. But when the opportunity presented itself to work with the filmmaker behind two beloved James Bond films, Casino Royale and GoldenEye, Ridley knew it was time to return to the type of physical acting that made her a household name via the Star Wars sequel trilogy. (Campbell and Ridley hit it off so well that they’re already in development on another action-thriller called Dedication.)
Opening in theaters on Feb. 21, Ridley plays Joey Locke, a former soldier who’s now a high-rise window cleaner for a London building that’s home to a prominent energy company.

Daisy Ridley, known for playing Rey in the ‘Star Wars’ sequel trilogy, recently shared her thoughts on the political themes found throughout the Star Wars movies. While the Star Wars franchise is famous for its action, adventure, and epic battles, Ridley and many fans believe the films also have a deeper message about politics and society.
Ridley commented on the themes while promoting her latest movie ‘Cleaner.’
I feel like [the Star Wars films] are all political. I feel like it’s the individual versus the big corporation or the big group, so I think they always have been. And ultimately I think the films are emotional in that it’s good and evil, which we all can relate to very specifically in our day-to-day lives. But yes, I do feel those conversations are woven within the story, and I’m very excited to see what George does.

With so much writing trouble going on behind the scenes of the planned Rey spin-off movie, Daisy Ridley may possibly want to consider other franchises. Actually, it turns out she has, expressing interest in taking on any of the top comic book companies out there.
Speaking with ComicBook.com, Daisy Ridley said that while her foreseeable future may be in a galaxy far, far away, she is keeping her options open to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe if the opportunity ever arises. “Look, I’m open to loads of stuff. I work with this amazing second Ad called Matthew Sharp, and he texts me cause he’s doing Avengers, and he goes, ‘If they call.’ So I was like, ‘If they call, absolutely.” But it’s not just the MCU that Ridley seems to be considering but also the newly-rebranded Dcu. “I then of course love Batman, love The Penguin. Back in 2021 when Olivia Wilde was still attached to helm a Spider-Woman movie for Sony Pictures, Daisy Ridley was one of the names that popped up in connection with the lead role of Jessica Drew.
Ridley denied the rumors at the time, but did say that she'd be open to playing the hero, and it seems the Star Wars sequel trilogy star is still interested in joining a major superhero franchise.
Sony's Ssu may be on its last legs, but that still leaves any number of potential parts in Marvel Studios' MCU or Warner Bros./DC Studios' burgeoning Dcu.
While speaking to ComicBook.com about her new action flick, The Cleaner, Ridley admitted that she's "open to everything" when it comes to stepping into a comic book-based role.

At a meeting with his agents way back in January 2022, Malachi Kirby recalls for the first time describing his dream project when pondering the direction his career may take next.
Kirby, whose star was soaring following a BAFTA-winning performance in Steve McQueen’s Small Axe, said he wanted to fulfil a life-long dream of playing a boxer, wanted to tell the story of someone who had existed, wanted to find a project set in the past and fancied his next gig being based in London.
“I never thought that would end up all being the same job,” says Kirby three years on as we chat in the weeks leading up to premier of Disney+’s A Thousand Blows.
In what was an incredible bout of serendipity, Kirby’s agents soon after received the scripts for A Thousand Blows. Steven Knight’s latest drama series spotlights Hezekiah Moscow, who was indeed...

The second month of the year is here, and the movie lineup for the month is actually looking strong, albeit less so on the Netflix Original side, with most of the big hitters saved for March onwards. Below, we’ll give our picks of the best new movies coming up throughout the month.
As always, we will split our picks up into two buckets. First, we’ll cover the Netflix Originals we’re most excited about throughout the month. For the most part, these will be arriving on Netflix globally. We’ll only cover two this month, as their lineup is a little underwhelming. We’ll then look into the licensed movies headed specifically to US Netflix, with other regions’ lineups varying.
You can find the complete list of everything coming up on Netflix throughout February 2025 here.

While Jon Favreau’s “The Mandalorian & Grogu” will be the next “Star Wars” adventure to hit the big screen next year, there is still work being done to get “Star Wars: New Jedi Order” starring Daisy Ridley (reprising her role as Rey Skywalker) in good enough shape for filming to begin. Screenwriter George Nolfi was recently tasked by Lucasfilm to take over scripting duties on the new film from Steven Knight (“Peaky Blinders”) and is now talking about working on the “Star Wars” film in an interview with Film Stories.

Writer-director George Nolfi talks exclusively to us about his screenwriting work on Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy’s upcoming Star Wars movie.
Asking a filmmaker about their forthcoming Marvel or Star Wars project is generally a fool’s errand. Not least because they’ve signed so many non-disclosure agreements that they essentially can’t say anything.
All the same, when we spoke to director George Nolfi last week about his latest film Elevation – due for release on Prime Video UK on the 8th February – we could hardly avoid the (metaphorical) elephant in the room. Only a couple of days earlier, Hollywood trade outlets had reported that Nolfi had been hired as the screenwriter on one of Lucasfilm’s Star Wars projects.
If you’re unfamiliar, this is the sequel announced about two years ago, designed to bring back Daisy Ridley as Rey, and with documentary filmmaker Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy making her narrative feature debut.

The news broke late last year that Lucasfilm is developing a new Star Wars trilogy, with Simon Kinberg (X-Men: Dark Phoenix) tapped to write and produce all three films.

For a short month, February has never pulled its punches.
While our friends on IndieWire’s film team prepare for the Oscars, the month kicks off with the Grammy Awards on February 2, every year’s biggest TV and music crossover. It’s also host to one of the biggest TV events of the decade if not the century: the “Saturday Night Live” fiftieth anniversary celebration, a star-studded tribute to a storied institution (catch up on “SNL50” on Peacock!).
February is a big month for Netflix, starting with the Kaitlyn-Dever led “Apple Cider Vinegar,” a delicious story of social media fraud in set in the infancy of Instagram. That would be a heavy hitter in any month, but the streamer keeps going; with “Zero Day”, then with “Running Point” from executive producers Mindy Kaling, Ike Barinholtz, and David Stassen.
Speaking of punches, this month marks the return of “Peaky Blinders” creator...

Daisy Ridley’s ‘Star Wars’ film is to be written by George Nolfi. The scribe - who previously penned ‘The Bourne Ultimatum’ and ‘Ocean’s Twelve’ - is set to write the script for ‘Star Wars: New Jedi Order’, which will see the return of Ridley’s character Rey.The upcoming movie was initially due to be penned by Damon Lindelof and Justin Britt-Gibson, though the pair left the project in early 2023 due to creative differences with Lucasfilm. When ‘New Jedi Order’ was announced at Star Wars Celebration in April 2023, ‘Peaky Blinders’ creator Steven Knight was revealed as the new scribe for the movie, though he too parted ways with the flick in October 2024. A month later, rumours of ‘New Jedi Order’s production troubles began to ramp up after Disney removed a ‘Star Wars’ film from its 2026 release schedule, and replaced it with ‘Ice Age 6’.After Knight’s departure and...

We might not have had a new Star Wars movie since 2019, but there's been no shortage of movie news flying in from that galaxy far, far away in recent months. There's been talk of a new Simon Kinberg trilogy, confirmation that James Mangold's Dawn Of The Jedi will be set 25,000 years before The Phantom Menace, and even the curveball potential casting of Ryan Gosling in Shawn Levy's secretive Star Wars project. And now THR are reporting that Disney's New Jedi Order movie with Daisy Ridley has brought aboard Ocean's Twelve and The Bourne Ultimatum writer George Nolfi.
As you may recall, back in October we reported that director Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy's hotly anticipated movie — a film set 15 years after the events of The Rise Of Skywalker that is expected to centre around a now-Jedi Master Rey as she trains up a, well, new Jedi Order — had lost screenwriter Steven Knight.

Amid rumors that the project may have stalled (or possibly been shelved altogether), we now have confirmation that Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy's Rey-focused Star Wars movie is officially moving forward with a new writer on board to pen the script.
THR reports that George Nolfi, known for his work on movies such as The Bourne Ultimatum and Ocean’s 12, has been enlisted to write the movie, which is being referred to as "New Jedi Order" (whether this title will stick remains to be seen).
Nolfi is just the latest writer to take a crack at the script, as Damon Lindelof and Justin Britt-Gibson were initially hired to develop the story prior to Obaid-Chinoy signing on. Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight took the next pass, but stepped away last year.

Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man Secret ( Photo Credit – Instagram )
Andrew Garfield isn’t into lying, but for No Way Home, he mastered it, even tricking Emma Stone about his return.
“Emma kept on texting me,” Garfield shared on the Happy Sad Confused podcast. Her texts? Straight to the point: “Are you in this new Spider-Man film?” His replies? Total denial. “I was like, ‘I don’t know what you’re talking about.’” Stone didn’t let up. “Shut up, just tell me,” she demanded. Garfield played it cool: “Honestly, don’t know what…”
Having seen the film, Stone had just one thing to say: “You’re a jerk.”

Cillian Murphy’s Tommy Shelby Text ( Photo Credit – Instagram )
Throwback to the iconic text message Cillian Murphy sent Steven Knight after auditioning for Peaky Blinders, and let’s say it was a flex, but not the kind you’d expect. Murphy, on his way to becoming the king of razor-blade cap-wearing gangsters, texted Knight, “Remember, I’m an actor.” Cool, calm, and confident. But also, it’s a bit of a mic-drop moment for anyone doubting his range. Knight didn’t forget that one. “And boy, what an actor,” he said, making it clear Murphy was about to pull off something legendary.
At first, though, Knight wasn’t sold. Would Cillian Murphy, the guy with a soft-spoken, approachable persona, play the ruthless, cold-blooded Tommy Shelby? Seemed a little like a stretch. But then Murphy, well, Murphy acted. And he delivered. Knight later admitted, “No one else could have been Tommy Shelby.

Despite what you might have heard on the internet, the Rey Skywalker movie is not dead. In fact, it just tapped George Nolfi to be its screenwriter.
As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, the writer and director has been brought on to write the film, which will see the return of Daisy Ridley in the role of Rey Skywalker. Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy is still on as the director, making her jump from documentaries to narrative features.
I'm going to say this again for the people in the back: It's perfectly normal for movies in pre-production to sometimes go through different writers. At one point or another, Damon Lindelof, Justin Britt-Gibson, and Steven Knight were writers on the New Jedi Order. There could be a number of reasons for pre-production teams to move on from a project. The reason why these make headlines is because Star Wars is such a massive thing.

The Star Wars movie centered on Daisy Ridley’s Rey has found another new writer. THR reports that George Nolfi, best known for The Bourne Ultimatum and Ocean’s Twelve, will take over the script for the new Star Wars movie.
The project, which is set to be helmed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy (Ms. Marvel), was originally thought to be one of the first new Star Wars films to be released, but it’s been plagued with setbacks. It was first announced at Star Wars Celebration close to two years ago, with Damon Lindelof (Lost) and Justin Britt-Gibson (The Strain) writing the script. The pair left or were “asked to leave,” as Lindelof put it, and Steven Knight (Peaky Blinders) stepped in to take over. However, Knight dropped out last October. Here’s hoping Nolfi has better luck.

“The Bourne Ultimatum” writer George Nolfi will write Daisy Ridley’s “Star Wars” project titled “New Jedi Order” for Lucasfilm, according to an insider with knowledge of the project.
Ridley is attached to star. Nolfi is the latest writer to come aboard the project as Damon Lindelof and Justin Britt-Gibson, along with “Peaky Blinders” creator Steven Knight, wrote previous drafts of the script, which takes place 15 years after the events seen in 2019’s “The Rise of Skywalker” with Ridley’s Rey Skywalker now a mentor to a new crop of Jedis.
Lucasfilm announced this new addition to the franchise at its Star Wars Celebration in April of 2023. Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, two-time Academy Award-winning documentarian, is attached to direct.
Other “Star Wars” projects in development include a feature helmed by “Deadpool & Wolverine” filmmaker Shawn Levy and a “Dawn of the Jedi” feature, set thousands of years in the past, to be directed by James Mangold.

Daisy Ridley’s “Star Wars” movie is still alive. Lucasfilm has hired George Nolfi (“The Borne Ultimatum”) to write the script for the long-gestating follow-up to 2019’s “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker,” which is still set to be the feature directorial debut for Oscar-winning documentarian Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy.
By the time Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy officially announced the project and Ridley’s involvement at Star Wars Celebration in April 2023, the film — which currently has the working title of “Star Wars: New Jedi Order” — had already lost its initial screenwriting team of Damon Lindelof and Justin Britt-Gibson (“The Strain”). Despite the fast-tracking of Shawn Levy’s standalone Star Wars movie with Ryan Gosling in talks, Daisy Ridley's Rise of Skywalker sequel is getting another pass, this time by writer George Nolfi.
Filmmaker Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy is still attached to direct the story about Rey Skywalker, 15 years after the events of 2019’s The Rise of Skywalker. The plot is rumored that Rey, the granddaughter of Emperor Palpatine, will oversee a school of Jedis.
Previous scribes on the Rey story included Damon Lindelof and Justin Britt-Gibson. In April 2023 Peaky Blinder creator Steven Knight was also making a go at it, but stepped away last October.
Ridley told Deadline at SXSW last year that “I know bits and bobs” about the sequel. “I know there’s an introduction of new characters,” the actress said, “I don’t know about previous characters” — and that includes her twin flame Kylo Ren.

George Nolfi, known for his screenplay work on movies such as The Bourne Ultimatum and Ocean’s 12, has been tapped to write New Jedi Order, the Daisy Ridley-centric Star Wars movie.
The hiring signals continued faith in the project, which was announced to great fanfare almost two years ago at Star Wars Celebration in London, but has seen several high-profile writers fall into the trash compactor.
Documentary filmmaker Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy is due to make her narrative feature debut with the project, with Ridley due to reprise the role of lightsaber-wielding Rey Skywalker, the character she played Disney’s sequel trilogy. The new story is said to take place 15 years after the events seen in 2019’s The Rise of Skywalker, with Ridley’s character now a mentor to a new crop of Jedis.
Damon Lindelof (Watchmen, Lost) and Justin Britt-Gibson were the initial writers on the project, working on it before Obaid-Chinoy was brought on.

Ruth Wilson’s power to switch between vulnerability, resilience, and outright manipulation makes her one of the most versatile actresses in films. A bright and daring actress, her repertoire ranges from works like Jane Eyre to The Affair. Her layered characters make for some of the best drawn-out characters in movies and TV shows, even if she is not leading them.

Wilson gave some of her finest performances in a number of films and TV shows, with each of them receiving more critical acclaim than the previous ones. One of these performances never had her on the screen, yet she was able to paint a perfect picture of her character.

Several exciting Star Wars movies are currently in development, including ‘The Mandalorian & Grogu,’ set to release on May 22, 2026, with Jon Favreau directing. Other upcoming projects feature films by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, Dave Filoni, and James Mangold, some of which are still in pre-production or development.
In addition, movies like Lando starring Donald Glover, and ‘Rogue Squadron’ directed by Patty Jenkins are also planned, though their status remains uncertain. There is also an untitled film by Shawn Levy, but little is known about its current development.
In November 2022, it was reported that Shawn Levy was in talks to direct a Star Wars film after his work on ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ and ‘Stranger Things.’ However, in September 2023, Levy revealed that while development on the project had begun, it was delayed due to the 2023 Writers Guild of America strike.

The T-Birds. The Pink Ladies. The Warriors. The Teletubbies. Throughout history, film and television have homed an array of intimidating gangs, but perhaps the most recent to have caught the world's attention are the Peaky Blinders. Led by Cillian Murphy in Steven Knight's award-winning period drama (which broke the television production mold), the show is inspired by a real gang in the early 20th Century (although Knight approached the series like an old-school Western). The drama stars Murphy as Thomas Shelby, a devoted family man and feared head of the titular gang who, for six seasons and nine years, has dodged the law and the lawless in equal measure, dancing with death on more than one occasion along the way.

One of the best performances of Kristen Stewart's career is coming to Netflix next month. Though her breakout roles came in David Fincher's Panic Room, Zathura: A Space Adventure, and Into the Wild, Stewart has been synonymous with Bella Swan and The Twilight Saga for much of her career, starring in the five franchise films from 2008 to 2012. In those five films, Stewart's performance as Bella was widely panned, which led to her being unfairly labeled as an emotionless actress.
After starring in another big-budget production, 2012's Snow White and the Huntsman, Stewart shifted her focus to indie projects and, just like her Twilight co-star Robert Pattinson, reinvented herself as an actor. During the remainder of the 2010s, Stewart starred in the dramas Camp X-Ray, Still Alice, and Equals, but began garnering critical acclaim for her collaborations with director Olivier Assayas in Clouds of Sils Maria and Personal Shopper.

Netflix's Peaky Blinders explored several interesting subplots throughout its six seasons, but one area of the show's narrative that often doesn't get the recognition it deserves is its treatment of Aunt Polly's character. The figure is one of the show's most enigmatic, with Helen McCrory's performance elevating her from a single-note side character into one of the story's most complex individuals. She's also one of the strongest members of Peaky Blinders' cast, and her character's backstory is surprisingly tragic.
From the very first episode of the show's first season, it's clear that Polly Gray has a troubling history from the way she behaves and interacts with her nephews. But the show's biggest strength is the patience with which it reveals details about her past: It doesn't give everything away at once but rather makes the audience truly care about her before explaining her children and their departure. Incidentally,...

From Peaky Blinders to Spencer, See to Maria, and Locke to Sas Rogue Heroes, prolific writer-filmmaker Steven Knight has delivered and helped deliver some of the great dramatic haymakers in contemporary film and TV. And with his latest effort, upcoming 'inspired by true stories' Disney+ drama A Thousand Blows, the man from Brum is set to deliver some literal haymakers as he takes us — and stars Stephen Graham, Erin Doherty, and Malachi Kirby — into the murky world of illegal boxing circa late 1880s Victorian London. Say goodbye to those New Year greetings and memes, because February is almost here. Time to really sink our teeth into 2025 and how it’ll look, and of course that means beefing up your watchlist. As always the libraries of Hulu and Disney+ (and multiple available bundles) are here to help, with new shows and movies (both family friendly and… a little unfriendly) available to stream.
Along with ongoing episodes of “Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man,” Disney+ will debut all of “Marvel’s Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur” Season 2 and plenty of other great titles for young viewers. “The Lion King at the Hollywood Bowl” special will recapture the magic of a live performance, and “Harlem Ice” follows a girls’ figure skating team through their competitive season.
Hulu will feature ongoing episodes of the new drama “Paradise,” and if you want more White House action there’s Viacom’s “The Oval,...

The latest trailer for Hulu’s A Thousand Blows boxing drama has The Crown star Erin Doherty as Mary Carr trading barbs outside the ring with feared bare knuckle pugilist Sugar Goodson, played by Peaky Blinders star Stephen Graham, to grow her criminal empire.
“Watch me kill him,” a menacing Goodson, the self-declared emperor of London’s East End boxing world, tells Carr, who introduces herself as Queen of an all-female criminal gang known as the Forty Elephants. “Can’t happen,” she defiantly replies, as Carr looks to exploit the talents of Kirby, a Jamaican boxer played by Hezekiah Moscow, who challenges Goodson for survival, and dominance, in the illegal boxing ring.
The result is three lives colliding for control of the criminal underbelly of Victorian London’s East End. A Thousand Blows, based on real-life figures and stories, is produced by The Story Collective in a co-production with Matriarch Productions...
