Bridgerton’s Most Elusive Man Might’ve Outsmarted Everyone With a Genius Plot
Image
Dear esteemed readers and members of the Ton, you should be no stranger to some of the most absurd Bridgerton fan theories. One such theory is daring to ask what no one has: what if Viscount Edmund Bridgerton (Rupert Evans) is alive? We know he died because of a deadly bee sting when Lady Violet (Ruth Gemmell) was pregnant with Hyacinth.

But what if it was all a big ruse to escape the never-ending, gossip-mongering, promenade circles of the ton? What if all these years, Viscount Edmund has silently witnessed his family grow and evolve from a distance?

It’s a far stretch, but we know how TV show adaptations often deviate from their source material, breaking all logic. Case in point: Bridgerton Season 3 Episode 7. Let us take you down a rabbit hole of speculation as we dissect what a faked death for the Viscount could mean for the Ton.

Jonathan Bailey's Bridgerton Season 4 Update Seemingly Confirms One Major Show Change From Benedict's Book
Image
Bridgerton star Jonathan Bailey has potentially confirmed the show's upcoming season will include a major relationship milestone that was missing from Benedict's original story. Second son Benedict's (Luke Thompson) world is about to be turned upside down, as he falls in love with a Cinderella-like mystery woman, Sophie Baek (Yerin Ha), at his mother's masquerade ball. As ever, though, Bridgerton season 4 will feature the various members of the Bridgerton family, including Bailey's Viscount, Anthony Bridgerton, and his wife, Kate, the Viscountess (Simone Ashley).

In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Bailey confirmed that he was happy to return to Bridgerton for as long as they'll have him, a welcome piece of news considering Daphne Bridgerton's (Phoebe Dynevor) absence from the show in season 3. Bailey explained that he felt a "real sense of brotherly pride" while working on the show and accidentally let slip that he had...

The Canceled Hellboy Spin-Off That Gave His Coworkers The Spotlight
Image
We may receive a commission on purchases made from links.

The conclusion of Guillermo del Toro's "Hellboy" trilogy seems destined to never see the light of day. It's been almost two decades since "Hellboy II: The Golden Army," del Toro himself said in 2017 that "Hellboy 3" will "100%" not be happening, and original Hellboy creator Mike Mignola pushed the films into a reboot in 2019 (and then another with 2024's "Hellboy: The Crooked Man").

In May 2017, the day after the Neil Marshall-directed "Hellboy" reboot was announced, Peter Briggs revealed on Facebook that Universal once (in 2010) had even greater plans for Hellboy. It turns out "Hellboy 3" wasn't the only del Toro-Hellboy project that got axed.

Enter "Hellboy: Silverlance," a proposed spin-off about forest elf Prince Nuada (Luke Goss), the main villain of "The Golden Army." Briggs was approached to write it, and he turned in a draft with co-writer Aaron Mason.

The Bridgerton Family Tree Explained
Image
Unless you've completely sworn off all of Netflix's original series, it's pretty hard to have completely avoided "Bridgerton." The lush period romance took the streamer by storm, becoming one of Netflix's most watched series in no time at all. Revolving around the romantic exploits of a prolific Regency-era family, "Bridgerton" spends each season focusing in on one of the family's adult children as they search for love in the midst of the drama-laden London society.

But even if you've seen "Bridgerton," you would be forgiven for having all of the different characters mixed up in your head. There are a lot of people to keep track of, even just within the immediate Bridgerton family, without considering all of the various side characters. (It certainly doesn't help matters that the actors playing the three eldest brothers are difficult to tell apart at first glance.) If you find yourself wondering, "Wait,...

‘Sound of Freedom’ Distributor Angel Studios Unveils WWII Resistance Feature ‘Truth & Treason,’ Sets Theatrical Release (Exclusive)
Image
Angel Studios has transformed a project formerly announced as TV series into a feature film with a theatrical release — alongside giving it a title switch.

Based on a true story, “Truth & Treason” follows Helmuth Hüebener, a 16-year-old boy who formed a resistance group with his friends Karl and Rudi after witnessing the arrest of his Jewish friends by Nazis. Their brave actions led them facing trial in Nazi Germany.

The film stars Rupert Evans, Ewan Horrocks, Ferdinand McKay, Daf Thomas, and Sean Mahon, and was directed by Matt Whitaker and written by Whitaker and Ethan Vincent.

“Truth & Treason” is executive produced by Russ Kendall, John Foss and Jon Erwin.

Ron Perlman Open to 'Hellboy 3' Return If Guillermo del Toro Directs Sequel
Image
Despite two attempts to reboot the character, Ron Perlman is the one and only true Hellboy to many. The beloved actor first wore the red prosthetics 21 years ago in 2004's Hellboy, directed by none other than Guillermo del Toro. Perlman and del Toro returned four years later for Hellboy II: The Golden Army. Despite both movies being major hits with fans and critics, they were never considered to be financially successful by studios. As a result, del Toro's planned Hellboy threequel was scrapped. But many, including Perlman, are eager for del Toro's Hellboy universe to return.

During an interview with That Hashtag Show, Perlman said he's ready to return as the titular demon for a third movie, and he only has one demand... thankfully, it's one that the entire fan base can agree on. "For Guillermo I would," Perlman immediately answered when asked about a potential return. Since The Golden Army,...

Netflix’s ‘Bridgerton’ Family Tree In Alphabetical Order From Anthony To Hyacinth
Image
The Bridgerton family tree has grown closer to completion in the onscreen adaptation of Julia Quinn’s books. With almost three full seasons on Netflix, the cast and characters have come a long way from Christmas 2020 when the first installment dropped.

As devotees know, Edmund Bridgerton (Rupert Evans) and Violet Bridgerton (Ruth Gemmel) chose to name their eight children in alphabetical order as a means of organization. The late viscount and dowager viscountess had three sons — Anthony, Benedict and Colin — before their first daughter Daphne, who is followed by two more girls — Eloise and Francesca — and finally, Gregory and Hyacinth. Violet, who wants a love match for all of her children, oversees the marriage market seasons like a hawk, and her children who marry take after her in wanting a big family. Julia Quinn’s books detail more extensively the offspring of Daphne (Phoebe Dynevor) and Anthony (Jonathan Bailey) Bridgerton,...

An Exhaustive Guide to All the Bridgertons on ‘Bridgerton’
Image
Dearest readers: It’s Bridgerton Week at IndieWire. We’re celebrating the new season by diving deep on one of the best romance shows on TV.

Welcome back to the world of “Bridgerton,” the Netflix superhit that gets everyone invested in Regency-era romance by making it clear that the only way empire-waist gowns work is when they’re torn off by hereditary nobility. As it’s been a while since our last opportunity to mingle with the Lords and Ladies of the ton, here’s a refresher on who’s who (and who’s doing who) in London town this season.

I. The Bridgertons

The Dowager Viscountess Bridgerton (Ruth Gemmell) and her children stand at the center of London society, partially because their unlimited funds make them a financially desirable family to marry into, but also because they’re all the kind of hot that makes one stop and go “No,...

Bridgerton Season 3 Family Tree and Character Ages, Explained
Image
When a TV show introduces a plethora of characters right off the bat, it is easy for new viewers to become completely overwhelmed and simply give up on the show. However, with Netflix's beloved lighthearted period romance entitled Bridgerton, a family of nine is immediately put in the spotlight, and fans have found that it is surprisingly easy to keep up with all eight siblings and their loving mother. Each character has been meticulously crafted to have their own quirks and pursuits, and while they do often come together to support one another, fans feel like the varying storylines are actually easy to keep up with, especially when love interests get involved.

Comic Book Movie With 17% Rotten Tomatoes Score Soars Into Netflix Global Top 10

Hellboy (2019) enters Netflix's Global Top 10, despite its critical failure, with 7.5 million hours viewed. Despite being a box office flop, Hellboy reached the sixth spot on Netflix's weekly chart. Hellboy: The Crooked Man will bring the demonic lead back to screens, with a story set in the 1950s Appalachia.

David Harbour's poorly-reviewed Hellboy enters Netflix's Global Top 10 chart. The 2019 movie saw Harbour take on the role of the titular demonic paranormal investigator, as an ancient and powerful queen brings about the end of days. Hoping to revive the franchise over eleven years after Guillermo del Toro's Hellboy: The Golden Army, the 2019 reboot paled in comparison to its predecessor, with critics panning it as unimaginative and unable to keep audiences invested.

Despite the 2019 Hellboy being deemed a failure, the movie has found a second life through its streaming release. Netflix reports that the Harbour-led comic book movie entered...

Movies That Use The Chosen One Trope
Image
For decades, the idea of the "chosen one" has been a popular trope in fiction, telling the story of characters who are unwitting subjects of prophecies. These films focus on ideas of fate and destiny, building towards long-awaited realizations of the characters' full potential, both for better and worse. While some characters embrace their supernatural roles, others have their stories defined through trying to avoid them at all costs.

The idea of the chosen one continues to be popular in fiction, especially thanks to how it can elevate seemingly ordinary characters into great heroes, sending them on fantastical adventures. These stories often take the shape of tales of responsibility, and have been a classic vehicle for the hero's journey. The chosen one trope continues to entertain fans across mediums and genres and, despite often being supernatural in nature, can lead to relatable character development.

Connie Jenkins-Grieg's performance as young Violet Ledger in Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story shines and could pave the way for her own spinoff. Hellboy 3: Ron Perlman Wants to Return & Complete the Trilogy
Image
Ron Perlman expresses his desire to return as Hellboy and complete the trilogy. The original Hellboy films, directed by Guillermo del Toro, were well-received and have left a mark on Perlman's career. A new adaptation of the Hellboy comic, titled "Hellboy: The Crooked Man," is currently in the works, with a different actor portraying the title character.

It's been almost 20 years since Ron Perlman transformed into Hellboy for the first time in the first outing from Guillermo del Toro and his adaptation of the acclaimed comic book series created by Mike Mignola. However, Hellboy is one of the characters that have left a mark in the actor's career, and he has now stated that he would love to revisit it.

Following the life of a nanny called Greta Evans (Lauren Cohan), the movie sees her leave her Montana life behind to work for Mr. (Jim Horton) and Mrs. Heelshire (Diana Hardcastle) in England, which is no ordinary job as she is asked to watch over a doll named Brahms. She follows the rules: feed and nurture Brahms, make sure he isn't by himself, avoid the attic, and don't invite boyfriends over. However, before too long, Greta becomes a traditional final girl as she knows something is wrong and investigates.

With one of the best plot twists in a horror movie, the conclusion of The Boy comes as a shock, and it's hard to predict what happens in the final act. The film led to the sequel Brahms: The Boy II, which was released...

Why David Hyde Pierce Refused To Be Credited For His Role In Hellboy
Image
Guillermo del Toro's "Hellboy" is indicative of where the filmmaker was at in his career when he made it. Released in 2004, it was the first movie del Toro directed after the financial success of "Blade II" in 2002 but only his third Hollywood project after that film and his 1997 box office flop "Mimic." Because of this, he had yet to gain the creative control he would later come to wield the first time he brought the agents of the Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense to the big screen.

Perhaps that's why "Hellboy" doesn't feel like an undiluted del Toro joint in the vein of its sequel, 2008's "Hellboy II: The Golden Army." Make no mistake, it's an imaginative, director-driven superhero movie, mixing quirky horror with del Toro's soulful monsters and fun nods to the fantasy films of Ray Harryhausen. But at the same time, del Toro's weirdness seems buttoned down.

Let’s Scare Bryan to Death: Ivan Kavanagh’s The Canal with Christine Makepeace
Image
Welcome back to a new Let’s Scare Bryan to Death, where this month we’re taking a trip to the Emerald Isle. But don’t expect a light romp along Ireland’s coast or in its lush forests. Instead, we’re navigating the bleak landscape of repressed male aggression in Ivan Kavanagh’s dread-soaked film, The Canal. Our guide this month is Christine Makepeace, a horror author whose latest book of short stories, The Sound of Breaking Glass, dives into topics such as “loss of self, isolation, and the soul-crushing machine that is capitalism.” She’s also the co-host of The Feminine Critique and serves as a consulting editor for Certified Forgotten. So, you could say she knows a thing or two about horror and film.

Released in 2014, The Canal actually managed to fly well below my radar, so I went in knowing very little beyond the basic IMDb...

The series finale of Charmed airs in just over two weeks.

The CW has dropped some plot details for Charmed Season 4 Episode 13, which doubles as a season and series finale.

Given how late in the game the network canceled the drama about witches, many thought we wouldn't get an ending that featured plenty of closure.

"In the epic season finale, Mel (Melonie Diaz), Maggie (Sarah Jeffery) and Kaela (Lucy Barrett), along with Harry (Rupert Evans) and Jordan (Jordan Donica), have now discovered that the cabal of foes coalescing to bring down the Power of Three are actually working for an ancient evil that’s been laying dormant since the dawn of magic," the network's official description for the episode reads.

"This powerful dark force — known as the Lost One — will be the ultimate test of the strength of the newly discovered sisterhood; forcing them to rekindle their connection…...

Charmed Writers Promise Closure as CW Cancels Reboot After Four Seasons
Alyssa Milano, Holly Marie Combs, and Shannen Doherty in Charmed (1998)
With the news that The CW has canceled around half of their scripted shows, there's a silver lining for fans of Charmed.

The series, under the leadership of Jeffrey Lieber, Joey Falco and Nicki Renna, has crafted its best season yet, so it's unfortunate that it's being canceled in its prime.

However, the Charmed writers social media account shared Thursday night, hours after the cancellation announcement, that they worked towards closure with the season finale.

"As you can tell by the amount of change happening today, we -- the writers -- were always aware that cancellation was possible," reads the Tweet.

"As such, we wrote toward closure. Meaning, we're not leaving you hanging."

"Moreover, there are some really, really, really cool things happening right up to the final frame."

"So, if you've been with us, and are willing to stay with us, we promise you won't be left in the lurch.

‘Bridgerton’s’ Jonathan Bailey on a Post Season 2 Anthony: ‘He’s Going to Be an Incredible Father’
Nicola Coughlan and Luke Newton in Bridgerton (2020)
The last week has been a big one for “Bridgerton” star Jonathan Bailey. Since Season 2 of his Regency-romance drama dropped on Netflix March 25, millions across the globe have watched the actor – as Anthony Bridgerton – traverse an emotional rollercoaster that led his character to a happy and loving ending.

And while his show set a record for the streamer, clocking 193,020,000 million hours watched globally (making it the most-viewed Netflix English language TV title in its premiere weekend), Bailey is still making time to discuss the series with press, even if he has to fit it in a very rock star-esque way – after spending nearly two hours on stage (in the London production of “Cock”).

“I feel like this is the perfect time because I’m always slightly wired and I feel like I’ve had about seven coffees when I come off stage,” Bailey tells TheWrap as he chats via Zoom after a performance.

Bridgerton Season 2 Cast: Meet the New Characters
Simone Ashley in Simone Ashley Receives the IMDb "Breakout" STARmeter Award
Bridgerton season one arrived on December the 25th 2020 like a highly decorated Christmas gift. Unwrapped, it was a perfect confection of untaxing indulgence, romance and escapism. It told the story of Daphne and Simon, a debutante beauty and an emotionally repressed Duke who teamed up to get everybody off their backs, and who ended up getting on their own backs, and fronts, and sides, and – if I remember this correctly – halfway up the stairs and possibly at one point, a ladder? It was all a marvellous distraction from the real world, with excellent casting that threw open the fusty, cobwebbed door of racially homogeneous period drama to revitalise an over-familiar world.

Now it’s back for season two, with a new romantic plot-line and a bunch of new characters. Here’s who we’ll be meeting across the eight episodes, plus the major returning cast being welcomed back.

‘Bridgerton’ Boss Chris Van Dusen on How Season 2 Expands the Storylines of Siblings Eloise, Colin and Benedict
Nicola Coughlan and Luke Newton in Bridgerton (2020)
Prepare to see much more of the Bridgerton family siblings in “Bridgerton” Season 2, which premieres this coming Friday on Netflix.

After establishing the Regency era world of the ton and introducing audiences to each of Lady Violet’s eight children – Daphne, Anthony, Benedict, Colin, Eloise, Francesca, Gregory and Hyacinth – in Season 1, the new run of episodes will dive deeper into the storylines of London’s society.

“It’s a big show,” executive producer, creator and showrunner Chris Van Dusen told TheWrap. “There’s a lot of characters and part of the challenge in writing a series like this is knowing when to pop in on certain characters and [when to] pop out. And just writing the scripts with my writers room, we always have long discussions about the flow of an episode, and when are we with our main love story? When are we with Anthony and Kate? When are we Kate and Edwina?...
