George Rr Martin's Western Thriller Show With 100% on Rotten Tomatoes Is Quietly Climbing the Streaming Charts
Image
George R.R. Martin is unequivocally forever tied to the A Song of Ice and Fire book series, which inspired the hit series Game of Thrones, and its prequel, House of the Dragon. However, the author has been involved in many other exciting projects that have nothing to do with the fantasy worlds.

One such example is the Western thriller series Dark Winds, for which Martin is a producer. A perfect whodunit, the highly underrated show has mostly fallen under the radar but received extreme praise for its performances and cultural representation. Per FlixPatrol, Dark Winds has just received a bump in the charts on AMC+, settling in eighth place.

Fans looking for a glimpse of dragons, realism, and fantasy will not get that with Dark Winds, but there is plenty of mystery and interesting characters. The AMC series follows Navajo Tribal Police officers, who are assigned to the Four Corners...

MSNBC’s ‘The Sing Sing Chronicles’ Takes Top Prize on Night 2 of News and Docs Emmys
Image
On night two of the 46th News & Documentary Emmy Awards Thursday night, MSNBC took home the night’s biggest prize, Best Documentary, for “The Sing Sing Chronicles.”

But at the ceremony focused on documentary programming, National Geographic led all winners with six award, taking home Outstanding Historical Documentary and Outstanding Nature Documentary among others. Netflix followed, with two programming wins (Outstanding Business and Economic Documentary and Outstanding Investigative Documentary) and two craft wins (Outstanding Cinematography — Documentary and Outstanding Light Direction — Documentary).

PBS historically does well on the second night of the annual ceremony, often leading the pack in documentary programming with series like “Frontline,” “Pov” and “Independent Lens.” Tonight’s two documentary programming wins brought the network’s two total to 19 this decade. They also saw three Gold/Silver Circle inductees — this amid President Donald Trump’s calls to cut the network’s funding.

Jon Else received the night’s Lifetime Achievement Award for documentary,...

The Oscar Nominated 'Anuja' on Netflix Is Worth 20 Minutes of Your Time
Image
With the Oscars quickly approaching, it's no wonder movie fans are buzzing about this year's nominees. As always, entertainment coverage focuses on the biggest controversies and the picks for the big five: Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actress, Best Actor, and Best Screenplay. As a result, films nodded in other categories don't get nearly as much attention as they deserve. While finding time to watch every single movie nominated for 2025 is difficult, the best short films of the year can easily be added to your watchlist — and one of them is now streaming on Netflix.

Anuja, nominated for Best Live-Action Short Film, captivated audiences despite its 23-minute runtime. The coming-of-age short follows the emotional story of a nine-year-old genius named Anuja (Sadja Pathan) and her older sister Palak (Ananya Shanbhag). Struggling to make ends meet while working at a sweatshop in India, Anuja must decide between working with her sister...

Epilogue: Kate Siegel, David Dastmalchian star in zombie movie produced by Mike Flanagan
Image
Mike Flanagan and David Dastmalchian are both prominent figures in the horror world, so it’s somewhat surprising that their first collaboration came not on a horror project, but on Flanagan’s upcoming movie The Life of Chuck – which, despite being a Stephen King adaptation, is a drama. Today, Deadline has announced that Flanagan and Dastmalchian are set to work together again… and this time the project is a horror film. Flanagan will be producing Epilogue, which Dastmalchian will star in alongside Flanagan’s wife and frequent collaborator Kate Siegel. Michael Fimognari, who worked as cinematographer on most of Flanagan’s work and directed episodes of The Midnight Club and The Fall of the House of Usher (not to mention the films To All the Boys: P.S. I Still Love You and To All the Boys: Always and Forever), will be directing, working from a screenplay by Luke Barnett and Tanner Thomason.

How Director Luke Barnett Was Inspired to Create Viral Short Film ‘The Crossing Over Express’ After Receiving a Message From His Late Mother
Image
A couple of years ago, Luke Barnett heard from his mother – even though it had been 20 years since she died. The actor-filmmaker received a text from an unknown number with a YouTube link to a video his mother had made when he was 16, telling him how proud she was of him. It was particularly jarring, as he didn’t have many photos and no video of her. It turned out, his friend Jon’s father had recently discovered it on an old VHS tape and had it put online.

“The video really shook me up,” says Barnett. “It took me back to my last conversation with my mom. She was in the hospital, in a coma, and they let me go in one last time.” He was just 17 at the time, and says it ended up being more like a confession. “From talking to people years later, I learned that...

On the heels of its world premiere at Fantastic Fest this Saturday, September 23rd, the film will hit theaters across the country on November 10th and arrive on digital on the 14th.

Mena Suvari & Blaine Morris in 'Dark Obsession' Thriller Official Trailer
Image
"He wouldn't leave without telling anybody..." Or would he...? An official trailer has debuted for an indie psychological thriller film with the most obvious and generic title ever – Dark Obsession, made by British filmmaker George Henry Horton. Not to be confused with any other dark obsession thrillers with a similar title, including 1989's Dark Obsession. A painter struggles with inner demons after being forced into a life of solitude when her husband leaves mysteriously. Do answers lie with her mother, who desperately tries to connect with her, or also her fearful neighbor? "When we first started filming, we were told by SAG we were the first pandemic film shooting in the whole of the Southern United States. That we pulled it off is nothing short of a testament to the dedication and talent of our wonderful cast and crew," the filmmakers say. This dark mystery thriller stars Blaine Morris, Mena Suvari,...

Angus Cloud Movie ‘Your Lucky Day’ Secures SAG-AFTRA Interim Agreement For Publicity
Image
Your Lucky Day, the horror thriller featuring one of the final performances of Euphoria breakout Angus Cloud, has secured a SAG-AFTRA Interim Agreement for publicity ahead of its Fantastic Fest premiere, Deadline has learned.

As with all projects under agreements of this sort — Michael Mann’s Ferrari and the Sean Penn-Dakota Johnson starrer Daddio being just two other prominent examples — we’ll have to wait and see who will, in fact, agree to participate in promotional activities amidst the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. A prominent genre festival based in Austin, TX, Fantastic Fest takes place this year from September 21-28.

Dying of an undisclosed cause on July 31st, at his family home in Oakland, CA, aged 25, Cloud’s co-stars in Your Lucky Day included Jessica Garza, Elliot Knight, Jason O’Mara, Spencer Garrett, Mousa Hussein Kraish, Jason Wiles and Sebastian Sozzi.

The film from writer-director Daniel Brown is billed as a...

Trailer for Filmmaking Comedy 'Faith Based' About 'A Prayer in Space'
Jason Alexander, Margaret Cho, David Koechner, Christopher Rodriguez Marquette, Danielle Nicolet, Lance Reddick, Richard Riehle, Danny Woodburn, Luke Barnett, Carly Craig, Christoph Sanders, Lisa Schwartz, and Tanner Thomason in Faith Based (2020)
"Action: space monsters!" Gravitas has released an official trailer for an indie comedy titled Faith Based, a film about filmmakers trying to make a film. This originally premiered at the Santa Barbara Film Festival earlier this year. When two slacker friends come to the realization that every "faith based" movie makes buckets of cash, they set out on a mission to make one of their own. Their project: A Prayer in Space, about the story of the first prayer ever to be prayed... in space. With the majority of the movie taking place in LA's San Fernando Valley, the filmmakers went to renowned local artist Phill Bourque to create the original, hand drawn poster (as seen below). The film stars Luke Barnett, Tanner Thomason, Margaret Cho, David Koechner, with Lance Reddick, and Jason Alexander. It's always amusing to see films about the kookiness of filmmaking, and this looks like it's...

“Faith Based” Pokes Fun At A Very Unique Film Genre
Jason Alexander, Margaret Cho, David Koechner, Christopher Rodriguez Marquette, Danielle Nicolet, Lance Reddick, Richard Riehle, Danny Woodburn, Luke Barnett, Carly Craig, Christoph Sanders, Lisa Schwartz, and Tanner Thomason in Faith Based (2020)
Apologies if this offends anyone, but faith based films almost exclusively are terrible. In fact, they’re ripe for parody. After all, movies made on the cheap, appealing to an audience that only cares about quality in the broadest sense of the word, and can almost be assured of turning a profit, are easy targets. The upcoming film Faith Based takes a comedy and satirical look at what would happen if a couple of regular guys, on the hunt for a quick buck, opted to make one themselves. The premise has a lot of potential, which luckily for audiences, leads to a charming flick with more on its mind than simply having a laugh at this inherently silly genre. The movie is, as mentioned, a comedy, centering on two fairly dim-witted friends. Luke (Luke Barnett) and Tanner (Tanner Thomason) are buds who love cinema, aren’t the smartest, and need to make some money.

Faith Based Teaser Counters Controversy Fueled by Fox News and Breitbart

The Faith Based teaser trailer has arrived and it takes a different approach to promote the Christian movie industry satire. Rather than deliver a traditional trailer with footage from the comedy, stars Luke Barnett and Tanner Thomason read angry comments about the movie from Fox News and Breitbart. The duo claim that their upcoming movie has earned over 10,000 angry comments so far, making sure to note that nobody has even seen the movie yet.

Most of the comments from Fox News and Breitbart about Faith Based are pretty negative and dark, with some even going as far as to talk about Jews and Muslims. The comedy is based around two friends, played by Luke Barnett and Tanner Thomason, who set out to make a movie to capitalize on the lucrative Christian movie industry. So far, the satire has managed to gain a lot of attention for what some are calling,...
