Image
What’s next for NBC’s new breakout medical drama?

It feels like every network has a medical drama. However, Brilliant Minds is unique in that the life and career of author and neurologist Dr. Oliver Sacks inspired it.

The NBC series follows Dr. Oliver Wolf (Zachary Quinto) and his talented interns as they delve into the human mind, their own mental health, and the complexities of their relationships.

(Rafy/NBC)

It was one of the few series that focused on neurology and psychology, detailing how these cases affected the team.

We were relieved when Brilliant Minds was finally renewed, as we had grown invested in these characters, and the series ended on multiple cliffhangers.

Many fans are still reeling from that intense finale, and it’s time to contemplate what’s next. Who’s returning, and who’s new, and how will they mess with the established dynamics? Which...

A Terminator Star Wanted To Play Jack Reacher Before Alan Ritchson
Image
Jack Reacher is fast becoming one of the most prominent action heroes of modern times. Much of that is down to "Reacher" star Alan Ritchson, whose 6-foot 3-inch, 235-pound frame has finally given fans a book-accurate version of the ex-military policeman character. Audiences can't get enough of Ritchson in the role, as evidenced by the fact season 3 of "Reacher" broke a Prime Video ratings record. The actor has made no secret of how hard he worked for the part and how grueling the casting process was, with Amazon initially hesitant to offer the actor the lead role in "Reacher." But he pushed ahead anyway, and fans couldn't be happier.

Prior to Ritchson's casting there were multiple actors up for the part, including Teddy Sears, Brandon Routh, and Brian Van Holt, but it seems one Australian star was gunning for the part in secret. Jai Courtney, who played John McClane's son...

NBC Has Finally Decided If ‘Brilliant Minds’ Will Get a Season 2
Image
It’s been four months since Zachary Quinto (American Horror Story) shed his scrubs and clocked out after the debut season of Brilliant Minds. Since then, fans of NBC’s newest medical procedural have been waiting on pins and needles for a reveal that will tell them whether the series will return as part of the network’s fall slate. It’s been tough on those who watched other newbies like St. Denis Medical and Happy’s Place landed their renewals at the start of the year, but we’ve finally got an answer today, as NBC has chosen to continue Quinto’s tenure as neurologist Oliver Wolf.

Initially introduced to audiences as part of NBC’s fall lineup for 2024, Brilliant Minds comes from Michael Grassi, who based much of the story on the very real life of neurologist Oliver Sacks and his non-fiction book series, The Man Who Mistook...

The Hunting Party Among 2 Renewals at NBC

Two freshman dramas, The Hunting Party and Brilliant Minds, emerged unscathed from NBC’s Friday bloodbath and instead have been renewed for second seasons.

Season 1 of The Hunting Party averaged 4.2 million total viewers (with delayed playback). Out of the 11 dramas that NBC has aired this TV season, it ranks No. 8 (outdrawing the cancelled Found and Suits LA, and the theoretically on-the-“bubble” Grosse Pointe Garden Society).

Alan Ritchson's Reacher Role Was Initially Promised To Another Actor
Image
It turns out that large man Alan Ritchson being a badass is eminently watchable. Prime Video's "Reacher," in which the hulking actor stars, has become a major hit for the streamer, and not just in terms of the platform's own numbers. "Reacher" topped the Nielsen streaming chart when its first season debuted back in 2022, and the third season maintained a spot at the very top of those same charts for weeks, certifying the TV adaptation of Lee Child's popular book series as the best on-screen version yet.

The influence of Ritchson himself on this success can't be overstated. For fans, a major issue with the two Tom Cruise films (2012's "Jack Reacher" and 2016's "Jack Reacher: Never Go Back") was the star himself. Cruise's 5-foot 7-inch frame just wasn't a match for the bruiser of a man from the novels, and that's not an insignificant problem. Child described...

'Reacher' Alan Ritchson Reveals That He Wasn't Supposed to Star in the Show... But Then He Nailed the Audition
Image
Reacher, the Amazon Prime Video action hit, recently returned to streaming with a white-knuckle third season that continues the hero's journey based on Lee Child's book series. Season 3 is still ongoing with only a few episodes left, and so far, the show keeps hitting it out of the park with non-stop thrills and one of the best leading characters on modern television. Jack Reacher is very well-written, but it would not be the same without the contribution of actor Alan Ritchson, who seems tailor-made for the gig. But as it turns out, Ritchson wasn't always attached to the project. Someone else was supposed to play Reacher.

Ritchson, who's also known for his roles in shows like Smallville and Titans and movies like The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, was in the web series "Autocomplete Interview" for Wired where he answered a few questions fans asked about him. In the series,...

10 Best Fight Scenes in The Night Agent Season 2
Image
The Night Agent has upped the ante for its second season. While some found the first season of the smash Netflix hit series to be somewhat corny, season two presents itself more like a 10-hour action-packed movie. The fight scenes are beautifully choreographed and in abundance, right from the first 10 minutes of the season.

With Peter Sutherland (Gabriel Basso) now an official Night Action agent working in the field in clandestine operations, it’s no surprise that he’s at the center of most of the best fight scenes of this season. The Night Agent Season 2 TV Review: The action series returns with an explosive sophomore run
Image
Plot: Based on the novel by Matthew Quirk, The Night Agent is a sophisticated, character-based, action-thriller centering on a low level FBI Agent , Peter Sutherland, whose efforts to save The President in Season 1 earn him an opportunity to become a Night Agent in Season 2. But working in the secretive organization of Night Action will propel Peter into a world where danger is everywhere and trust is in short supply.

Review: I was not kind to Netflix’s first season of The Night Agent. Despite the chemistry between stars Gabriel Basso and Luciane Buchanan, I found the espionage series dull and not as good as the cast deserved. Hailing from The Shield creator Shawn Ryan, The Night Agent became an immediate hit with Netflix viewers and earned a second season pick-up. Along the way, the series was renewed for a third season well before the second hit the streaming service. With...

The tragic reason why 'The Night Agent' season 2 red carpet premiere was canceled
Image
The Night Agent (2023), based on the novel written by Mathew Quirk, is one of the most popular and highly watched Netflix shows of 2023. Since it was created on a single book, thus it was destined for a sole show. But considering its huge viewer admiration, its creators decided to give it two more seasons with the hopes of being equally treasured.

Just like the first season, season 2 is also expected to be a similar action-packed thriller linked to the original plot. However, by the looks of the trailer, it seems like the show is going “all international” this time, as scenes from Bangkok can also be viewed, unlike the “only DC” setup from the previous season.

But now, finally, after one and a half years from the release of the first season, the wait is over for its global fans as the show is expected to debut on the 23rd of January.

"The Magic Starts at That Moment": 'Brilliant Minds' Showrunner Reveals the Secret Behind the Show's Best Ship
Image
NBC's new medical drama Brilliant Minds is a hit with fans as it explores unique medical cases in a manner most medical dramas don't. At the show's center is Dr. Oliver Wolf (Zachary Quinto), a talented neurologist working at Bronx General to help patients with conditions that no one has yet figured out. Throughout the first season, viewers have witnessed Dr. Wolf and Dr. Nichols' (Teddy Sears) relationship morph from competing colleagues to lovers, and the pairing has won viewers over. Series creator, writer, and executive producer Michael Grassi told TV Fanatic that Quinto and Sears were to thank for their "unique chemistry." "When they walk onto the set and block a scene or rehearse it, the magic starts at that moment. It begins with how they approach their characters, find conflict, and find little moments between each other," he added. However, Grassi had a secret sauce that was guaranteed to hook viewers,...

‘The Night Agent’ Season 2 Premiere Canceled In Wake Of L.A. Wildfires
Image
The red carpet premiere for Season 2 of Netflix’s hit action drama series The Night Agent has been canceled, the latest Hollywood event to be scrapped or postponed since wildfires broke out in Los Angeles a week ago, destroying neighborhoods, killing two dozen and displacing tens of thousands.

“In light of the current crisis in Los Angeles, the red carpet has been canceled,” the organizers wrote in an update.

The cast and creative team of The Night Agent had already gathered in New York, where the premiere was to take place tonight, Jan. 14. That is where most of Season 2 is set, with newly minted Night Action agent Peter Sutherland (Gabriel Basso), joined by cyber security expert Rose Larkin (Luciane Buchanan), racing to save the city from a terrorist attack.

Season 2 features new cast members Amanda Warren, Berto Colon, Louis Herthum, Arienne Mandi, Brittany Snow, and Teddy Sears.

Based on the novel by Matthew Quirk,...

Brilliant Minds Has The Perfect Argument For NBC's Season 2 Renewal
Image
Brilliant Minds has a near-perfect argument for why it should be renewed for season 2. The freshman medical drama stands out because of its focus on neurological cases and its commitment to diversity. Unlike most medical shows, the series is set in an overcrowded hospital in a poor area and features several neurodivergent characters as well as characters of different races and sexual orientations. The first season of Brilliant Minds only had 13 episodes and ended on January 6, 2025, with a two-hour finale.

Although NBC has not made a decision yet about Brilliant Minds season 2, the season finale ended with several cliffhangers, most notably when Wolf (Zachary Quinto) blew off his date with Nichols (Teddy Sears) to see his long-absent father, Noah (Mandy Patinkin) at a diner, where Noah told him he had a mysterious illness he wanted Wolf to look into. It would be disappointing if Brilliant Minds is canceled without resolving this intriguing new storyline.

9 Biggest Questions After The Brilliant Minds Finale
Image
Warning! Spoilers ahead for Brilliant Minds season 1, episodes 12 and 13 (the season finale)

There are several questions that need answers after the Brilliant Minds season 1 finale. The medical drama ended with a two-part finale that aired on January 6, 2025, and revolves around the crisis at Ericka's (Ashleigh La Thrope) building. This seemingly pointless Brilliant Minds storyline begins with the interns realizing that the collapsing building is the one Ericka lives in. Nichols (Teddy Sears) and Wolf (Zachary Quinto) cross paths with an unnamed doctor (Mandy Patinkin) while assisting in the rescue effort, but Wolf later learns that the man is his supposedly dead father, Noah.

After Ericka is rescued, she deals with Ptsd and survivors' guilt while Wolf has a new case — a pastor whose "visions from God" are really signs of advanced brain cancer — but is distracted by his anger at his parents for letting him think Noah was dead for the past 30 years,...

Brilliant Minds Just Cornered NBC Into Renewing It For Season 2
Image
Warning! Spoilers ahead for Brilliant Minds season 1, episodes 12 and 13 (the season finale).Brilliant Minds' season 1 finale may have backed NBC into a corner when it comes to making a renewal decision. Although the finale ends with several significant cliffhangers, NBC hasn't decided whether Brilliant Minds season 2 will happen. The neurology-focused medical drama concluded its first season with a two-hour finale that features a shocking twist. After spending the first hour dealing with the building collapse, the series reveals that a seemingly random doctor (Mandy Patinkin) who was helping treat collapse victims is actually Noah Wolf — Oliver's (Zachary Quinto) supposedly dead father.

During the second half of the finale, Oliver wants to focus on the case of a pastor who is having strange hallucinations and perception issues, such as believing her husband is a hat on a rack. However, his world is turned upside down when he learns his father is alive.

Brilliant Minds Ending Explained
Image
Warning! Spoilers ahead for Brilliant Minds season 1, episode 12 and Brilliant Minds season 1, episode 13.

Brilliant Minds ended its season with a two-part finale that contains several surprising developments. The freshman medical drama focuses on unusual neurological cases based on the real-life cases and life of renowned neurologist Oliver Sacks. The special picks up from the cliffhanger of Brilliant Minds' best character, Ericka (Ashleigh Lathrop), trapped in an elevator with several other apartment residents as the building collapses. Wolf (Zachary Quinto) and Nichols (Teddy Sears) rush to the site to help with the rescue effort, while Ericka must help an older man who collapses in the elevator.

Ericka is ultimately rescued but watches helplessly as the elevator plunges to the ground with her patient's granddaughter still inside. The second half of the finale is a more typical episode featuring the real-world issues Brilliant Mind is known for —in this case, a pastor...

Why Brilliant Minds Only Has 13 Episodes?
Image
Following Brilliant Minds episode 13, the NBC TV show's first season has come to an end, meaning there won't be any more new episodes (for now). The medical drama series, created by Michael Grassi, is partly based on two of neurologist Oliver Sacks' nonfiction books — The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat and An Anthropologist on Mars. Both novels chronicle real-life medical cases, which inspired Grassi to create Brilliant Minds.

Brilliant Minds stars Zachary Quinto as Dr. Oliver Wolf, an attending neurologist at Bronx General in New York. Dr. Wolf is quite gifted, eccentric, and defined by his unique approach to his work (which isn't too popular among some of his peers). The series begins with Quinto's character accepting a new job at Bronx General, where he leads a team of interns and takes on unusual and challenging psychological cases. Unfortunately, though, Brilliant Minds season 1 is limited to 13 episodes.

Brilliant Minds Season 2 Gets Detailed & Optimistic Update From EP

Brilliant Minds creator and executive producer Michael Grassi shares his detailed hopes for season 2. A medical drama, based on the neurologist Oliver Sacks and his non-fiction books, Brilliant Minds debuted on NBC in September. NBC’s Brilliant Minds’ first season ends with episode 13, “The Man Who Can’t See Faces.” Episode 13 begins with the doctors getting ready for work. Oliver (Zachary Quinto) and Josh (Teddy Sears) make breakfast together, and Josh surprises Oliver with an invitation to a black-tie gala. Oliver isn’t enthusiastic about a formal event but accepts since Josh is receiving an award.

Josh admits he’s falling for Oliver. Oliver smiles but doesn’t reply.

Oliver’s dad, Noah (Mandy Patinkin), is still hanging out at Muriel’s place and insists he’s taking his meds and “in a good place.” Muriel (Donna Murphy) wonders what they’ll tell Oliver, concerned this news will disrupt his happiness. She’d prefer Noah just leave rather than take Oliver’s happiness away from him.

‘Brilliant Minds’ Boss Breaks Down Larger-Than-Life Finale Twist: Oliver ‘Starts to Question Everything’
Image
Note: The following story contains spoilers from “Brilliant Minds” Season 1, Episode 13.

NBC’s “Brilliant Minds” wrapped up its first season with a shocking twist that leads Zachary Quinto’s Dr. Oliver Wolf to “question everything.”

After learning how his dad’s passing traumatized Oliver during his adolescence, the penultimate episode of “Brilliant Minds” revealed that Oliver’s dad, Noah (played by Mandy Patinkin) was, in fact, alive and well. In a dramatic confrontation between Oliver, Noah and Muriel (Donna Murphy), Oliver learns not only that his dad has been alive, but that his mom has known, and lied to him.

“For Wolf, when he learns this huge secret, I think he starts to question everything in his life,” showrunner Michael Grassi told TheWrap. “Everything that he believed to be true is no longer true, and the thing that defined him, which was his dad, and is not what he believed it to be.

Brilliant Minds Season 1 Finale Review: [Spoiler’s] Return Throws Oliver’s World Out of Control
Image
That was some cliffhanger, and hopefully, the showrunners are confident that NBC will renew it for another season because this can’t be the end.

Before that, let’s discuss what happened in Brilliant Minds Season 1 Episode 12 and how the apartment collapsed, changing many characters’ lives.

This was the most action-packed and high-stakes case yet, and it demonstrated the importance of thinking fast and having people you can count on.

(Rafy/NBC) Josh and Oliver Rush to Save an Injured Woman

Waiting several weeks after Brilliant Minds Season 1 Episode 11’s cliffhanger was torturous. While we suspected they’d save Ericka, with the apartment collapsing, there would be other victims.

That accident kept us on the edge of our seats. There was a woman named Jenna trapped under the rubble with an open compressed fracture.

(Rafy/NBC)

While the EMTs called for Josh, I loved how Oliver insisted on accompanying him to the accident site.

NBC’s Brilliant Minds season one winter finale left off with a cliffhanger showing Ericka’s apartment building collapsing. Episode 12 plunges into the aftermath of the collapse, with first responders looking for survivors amid the rubble.

200 people, including Ericka, live in the apartment complex that has partially collapsed.

Dr. Oliver Wolf (Zachary Quinto) warns the interns that a flood of traumatized survivors is coming their way. And although it’s against his normal teachings, they need to detach themselves from what’s happening and treat the injured.

The emergency room is quickly jam-packed with patients-some with minor injuries, some critical, and all needing assessment.

Back at the scene, paramedic Katie Rodriguez (from episode 10) is among the first responders helping the injured. A severely injured woman has a skull fracture, as diagnosed by a doctor (Mandy Patinkin...
