Gossip Girl (2021)
Tavi Gevinson Was The Teen Blogger of Her Generation and Now She's Gossip Girl
Gossip Girl (2021)
On HBO Max's new iteration of Gossip Girl, Tavi Gevinson plays teacher Kate Miller, who is sick and tired of being bullied by the Upper East Siders. But in reality, Tavi was once one of those teens. In fact, she was at one point fashion's It Girl. At just 11 years old, Tavi's rise to fame began when she launched the now-defunct blog Style Rookie. As her very own editor in chief, she frequently posted her Ootd and other musings on trends, some of which caught the attention of the movers and shakers of the fashion industry.  It was only a matter of time before she was sitting front row at some of the biggest runway shows, including that of Chanel couture. As a New Yorker article...

NCIS: Los Angeles (2009)
NCIS: Los Angeles Season 12 Episode 12 Review: Can't Take My Eyes Off You
NCIS: Los Angeles (2009)
It wouldn't be Callen if he weren't having woman trouble.

Not just one but two girlfriends popped up in different capacities on NCIS: Los Angeles Season 12 Episode 12.

For those keeping score, that was one ex and one ... what is Anna these days?

Definitely trouble. Beyond that, it will have to wait until the couple has a quiet moment that doesn't involve a couple of other law-enforcement agencies.

It was amazing that the tail Callen hadn't been able to locate for a couple of episodes finally got caught by him. Did they suddenly forget how to handle surveillance?

What a convenient coincidence that on the same day that Callen nabbed his tail, Hetty popped up from her hidey-hole long enough to send Nell, who finally reappeared without explanation, a coded message of danger.

So the team was nearly immediately going in two seemingly unrelated directions, Callen on a personal mission and...

NCIS: Los Angeles (2009)
NCIS: Los Angeles Season 11 Episode 18 Review: Missing Time
NCIS: Los Angeles (2009)
The truth was out there.

It just wasn't as out there as it seemed on NCIS: Los Angeles Season 11 Episode 18.

This case involving the Navy's answer to The X-Files was that rare exception when it made sense to let Eric out of Ops.

Sure, Eric got his own spotlight episode back on NCIS: Los Angeles Season 11 Episode 9. But that was more a case of bringing Eric back into the team after Barrett Foa's sabbatical rather than anything that added to the Beale mythos.

No, a case with a UFO called for a believer within the squad and Eric was the natural choice.

Since the Osp agents were busy chasing down the missing officer, that left the skeptical Dia Agent Raines to fill the role of Scully to Eric's Mulder as they debated the possibility of UFOs, or whatever they're now called. Let's stick with what's simple and works..

Shockingly,...

New to Streaming: Doctor Sleep Director’s Cut, Waves, Ash Is Purest White & More
With a seemingly endless amount of streaming options—not only the titles at our disposal, but services themselves–each week we highlight the noteworthy titles that have recently hit platforms. Check out this week’s selections below and an archive of past round-ups here.

Ash Is Purest White (Jia Zhangke)

Jia Zhangke focuses on the prism of displacement: social, economic, political, spiritual. Ash Is Purest White, his latest dalliance with genre-inflected cinema, portrays a modern China stimulated and disrupted by the effects of globalism. But even as these changes motivate every aspect of the recursive narrative, they’re adjacent in this dual character study of a gangster and his moll. This film’s interest in time proves more platonic and freely cinematic as these characters travel through a world that’s left them behind. – Michael S.

Where to Stream: Amazon Prime

Arriving after her most abstract work,...

New Survey Looks at Cannabis Usage Among Pregnant Mothers
Even as cannabis usage is increasingly legalized and destigmatized in the U.S., there’s still little knowledge of how the drug is used by or affects several population groups — including new parents.

To coincide with Mother’s Day, the online women’s cannabis lifestyle magazine Miss Grass released the results of a survey collected from over 700 mothers, with questions ranging from cannabis usage during and after pregnancy and the mothers’ reasons for using Thc/Cbd, to how public or private they keep their cannabis usage from family and friends.

Martin Starr, Zach Woods, T.J. Miller, Thomas Middleditch, and Kumail Nanjiani in Silicon Valley (2014)
T.J. Miller on the Importance of Comedy Right Now (Exclusive)
Martin Starr, Zach Woods, T.J. Miller, Thomas Middleditch, and Kumail Nanjiani in Silicon Valley (2014)
T.J. Miller’s career is driven by one mission statement: “Life is a pretty tragic endeavor, so you want to make as many people laugh as possible, and to do that, you've got to do it on all levels.” Sure, it’s pretty altruistic, he admits to Et, but it’s been working handsomely to guide his career forward.

As the breakout star of HBO’s Silicon Valley, on which he played bad-boy entrepreneur Erlich Bachman for four seasons, the 36-year-old actor and comedian has seen his profile rise with sidekick roles alongside Mark Wahlberg and Ryan Reynolds in Transformers: Age of Extinction and Deadpool, respectively. He closed out 2016 with the ensemble Office Christmas Party and voiced Gene in this year’s Emoji Movie. This fall, he was back on the road in Canada with Nick Vatterott and Rhys Darby as part of the Just for Laughs Alternative Comedy Tour.

But for all that...

Hollywood Sexism: The Latest Stories From 11 Female Stars, From Jessica Chastain to Emma Stone
T.J. Miller at an event for Yogi Bear (2010)
The conversation is changing. With each passing week, more and more female stars have shared their experiences with rampant Hollywood sexism, from horrifying stories about giving “blowjob eyes” at auditions to tales of pay inequality and pushing for more female-led stories. While the sheer scale of the stories is upsetting — it seems like every actress has their own tale to tell — that these stars feel comfortable speaking out on the subject is heartening, one step closer to an industry that doesn’t have this kind of discrimination seemingly baked into its everyday operations.

While there have certainly been misfires along the way — actress and director Elizabeth Banks was recently taken to task for (incorrectly) calling out Steven Spielberg for never directing films with female leads, and “Game of Thrones” star Emilia Clarke compared sexism to racism in an ill-concieved statement to Rolling Stone — the recent uptick in discussion is proof that the,...

Tj Miller Addresses Battery Arrest During Critics' Choice Awards Monologue... Sort Of
T.J. Miller at an event for Yogi Bear (2010)
Well that's one way to address "the elephant in the room."

T.J. Miller (sort of) addressed his battery arrest while hosting the Critics' Choice Awards on Sunday night, just two days after his early morning altercation with an Uber driver occurred.

"Before we start, we need to address the elephant in the room," the awards show host began the show. "It's been in the news all weekend, and it's really affected me... The election was definitely hacked by the Russians."

Ah, the old bait and switch!

Miller used the remainder of his opening monologue to give a surprisingly poignant take on preachy celebs.

"All I want to do is talk about what's going on in the world, but the problem is, I hate when celebrities get on their soap box," Miller explained. "Just do your act. Don't tell the rest of us how think, Ok?"

"Let's...

Conan O'Brien in Conan (2010)
T.J. Miller Talks Painful Marriage Proposal to Kate Gorney: "It Hurt So Much"—Watch Now!
Conan O'Brien in Conan (2010)
Getting engaged doesn't always live up to the hype. Just ask Silicon Valley star T.J. Miller, who on Tuesday, told Conan's Conan O'Brien the process of proposing to girlfriend Kate Gorney "hurt so much"! Let's backtrack. The 33-year-old actor got on the topic of marriage while explaining to Conan that his colorful socks "were given to me by my wife..." He quickly corrected himself, though, comically struggling (and failing) at a pronunciation of fiancé. "Well," he admitted, "I call her my wife because I don't know how to pronounce...[fiancé]." Hey, it's a tough one.  And T.J. might not know how to say the word, but he...
