It’s been 23 years since Vecepia Towery won Season 4 of Survivor, so fans were thrilled to see her make her unexpected television return on The Price Is Right. The former reality star popped up on the February 13 episode and even got picked to play. Survivor fans were so excited by the appearance and flooded social media with comments begging for more. With Season 50 of Survivor confirmed to be a returning players season, many viewers are hoping for the return of Towery on the show. “She’s the same age as sue [Smey] and a winner , and she looks healthy so I think she should come back,” someone pointed out. Someone else wrote, “I hope they get her back on before it’s too late.” Her past with Survivor was not mentioned when she appeared on The Price Is Right, although she wore a shirt that referenced the fact that she was a reality TV star.

Work on the Survivor 50 cast continues. Host Jeff Probst and the other producers are trying to create the perfect group of castaways.
Jeff already revealed that the Survivor 50 cast will feature former players who bring joy to the game.
Many names have come up on social media from fans who have a vested interest in that upcoming season. But one reality TV star is pushing hard for a particular former winner.
Big Brother legend Danielle Reyes has an idea and wants Jeff to listen.
Danielle has been involved in reality competition shows for years, having recently played on Big Brother: Reindeer Games at CBS.
Danielle can be seen on a new season of The Traitors for Peacock this winter.

Within the Survivor fan community, there are people who've watched and ranked every season and observers who are still figuring out which seasons to watch first. As a result, each premiere episode of Jeff Probst's beloved reality show has to pay tribute to what came before while also treading a new path.
On top of that duality, Survivor's producers know that fans have high hopes that each season will feel dangerous and include great players. Fortunately for fans and everyone who works on the show, Survivor 47's premiere episode was captivating on multiple levels and showed the season has a lot of potential.

During the fourth season of Survivor, Jeff Probst's beloved reality TV show introduced fans to Sean Rector and Vecepia Towery. Since then, there have been many seasons for fans to rank, lots of great players, and far too many people who've been medically evacuated from the show.
Now that new fans have to figure out which Survivor seasons to watch first, many people have forgotten about Vecepia and Sean. However, that isn't the fault of the fans who no longer think of Sean and Vecepia. Instead, that is proof of why Sean deserved to be outraged by how he and Vecepia were treated by Survivor.

Since Survivor is a highly demanding reality TV show, everyone who wins the game struggles. After all, everyone who competes on Jeff Probst's show has to worry about avoiding being medically evacuated and competing against great players. However, once fans are past the point of figuring out which seasons to watch first, it becomes clear that some people have a harder time on Survivor than others.
Similar to how some seasons are better than others, some Survivor winners have to go through a lot more to win. Looking back at Survivor's history, there are some winners that I believe had a lot harder path to win their season.

After winning “Survivor 42” in May of 2022, Maryanne Oketch‘s life has been an absolute whirlwind. “I got engaged! So now I’m planning my wedding, which is hectic but fun,” she reveals as we recently caught up with her over Zoom. “Being a part of the ‘Survivor’ alumni community has been amazing. It’s the wildest thing ever. Like, Queen Sandra Diaz-Twine knew who I was and yelled my name across from a parking lot. That was the peak.” Watch our exclusive video interview above.
As for what she thought of the most recent winner, Dee Valladares from “Survivor 45,” Maryanne calls her “amazing” and explains, “Dee played the game that I think a lot of us players wish that we played. Dominant the whole time, winning immunities, having a great social game, physical game, lying, doing all these cool moves. Oh my goodness! Dee played wonderfully and fully deserved the win.

Survivor is one of those shows that is made great by the character of the players and the work of the editors.
A jury of booted players always chooses the winner, but sometimes the winner is a surprise even to production.
It's up to the editors to craft a satisfying narrative based on the footage they have but still make sure the outcome isn't too obvious. Thirty-nine days (or 26 in the last three seasons) yields a lot of material, so you'd think they'd always have enough to go on.
Not always. Sometimes, making the winner appear deserving seems impossible, so the players' relationships and strategies are embellished or tossed aside in favor of an entertaining throughline. It hasn't always worked.
Warning: This article contains spoilers for many seasons of Survivor.

Survivor 43, the latest season for the venerable reality TV series, has featured some good strategy and sly social play this fall. Now that it's deep into the individual immunity stage of the competition, longtime viewers will have memories stirred of when past players who desperately needed to win immunity were able to secure clutch victories.
Clutch wins come at all different points after tribe mergers. Some of these victories helped contestants go on to win their season, while others merely let them last a few more days. Either way, these unforgettable Survivor competition moments should come to any fan's head when they think of clutch immunity challenge wins.

Survivor has changed quite a bit since its premiere. It is hard to believe the popular reality TV series has been on the air for more than 20 years. With 43 seasons and counting, the show has introduced hundreds of great contestants and, of course, iconic physical challenges. Over the years, some of the game's most clever players figured out creative ways to outwit the game's challenges in ways other than how they were designed to be won.
These challenge hacks have occurred in both tribal challenges and individual challenges. A few happened early in the game, while others came about during the final immunity challenge and helped the player win the season. No matter what the circumstances, these castaways had to think on their feet to come up with these clever hacks.

The 43rd season of Survivor it well underway, and players strong, with the castaways wasting no time in engaging in sneaky gameplay. For instance, Cody on Day 1 made a major play by introducing a campaign against salespeople — despite being a salesman himself. While it's certainly an underhanded play, it can pay off big time.
There have been many moves just like it throughout Survivor history. After all, there are players who are known for tricking competitors with under-the-radar games that eventually explode into winning performances. Many of Survivor's sneakiest players of all time have taken advantage of the strategy and used it brilliantly.

Few TV shows make it to Season 43. For every “60 Minutes” (54 seasons) and “Saturday Night Live” (47 seasons), there are hundreds, if not thousands, of television programs that are canceled or ended before they even make it to double digits. But “Survivor” just keeps going. Now the granddaddy of all reality TV shows is gearing up for its 43rd season (and 22nd year), due out in Fall 2022, with Jeff Probst back as host and executive producer. The most recent season, “Survivor 42,” was so captivating, it proves why the series deserves to reclaim its time in the Emmy spotlight.

All season long, Gold Derby readers have been making their predictions about who they think will win “Survivor 42,” and things are looking good for Maryanne Oketch to take home the 1 million grand prize. The 24-year-old seminary student from Ajax, Ontario leads our finale racetrack odds at 2/9, far ahead of our second place competitor, Lindsay Dolashewich, who trails at 23/2 odds. If our users are correct that Maryanne will prevail, she would become only the second Black female winner in the show’s 42-season history, following Vecepia Towery in Season 4.
Here are Gold Derby’s “Survivor 42” winner predictions ahead of the May 25 season finale on CBS.
1. Maryanne Oketch — 2/9 odds
2. Lindsay Dolashewich — 23/2 odds

As the old saying goes, once you reach the top, the only way to go is down. Perhaps that’s a part of the reason why so many “Survivor” winners never returned to play again. There have been 39 winners over the past 41 seasons, and of those a whopping 27 played multiple times. Thus, over the past two decades, 12 “Survivor” champions took home the 1 million check and never looked back — or were never asked back. See the full list below.
Several winners found success on their second go-around, like Amber Brkich (“All-Stars”) and Parvati Shallow (“Micronesia”). For others it took a long while to get there, like Rob Mariano (“Redemption Island”), who didn’t prevail until his fourth season.
Some of the most recent champs like Chris Underwood (Season 38), Tommy Sheehan (Season 39) and Erika Casupanan (Season 41) haven’t had a chance to return to the game quite yet, but we’re optimistic...

Last week’s shocking elimination of Omar Zaheer on “Survivor 42” will reverberate through the tribe and have major implications on the rest of the game as we look ahead to Wednesday’s season finale. Maryanne Oketch, Lindsay Dolashewich, Romeo Escobar, Mike Turner and Jonathan Young each stand a one in five chance of taking home this season’s 1 million cash prize, but to get there they’ll have to maneuver through two more immunity challenges and tribal councils and hope that the jury respects their game enough to be deserving of the win.

One day after “Survivor” made headlines when two Black women, Maryanne Oketch and Drea Wheeler, openly addressed their feelings on racism and subconscious biases, Maryanne has thanked two of her white castaways for being allies. Lindsay Dolashewich and Tori Meehan “had every right to fight for their safety in the game once both idols were played,” Maryanne wrote on Instagram, “but instead, they chose to take a step back to actively listen to where I was coming from, and [empathize] with the burdens that I experience.” The 24-year-old seminary student from Ontario added that CBS’s reality TV show is at its core a “social game that is a microcosm of society.”

Over the past 40 seasons of “Survivor,” men have won 25 times while women have only prevailed 15 times. (See the “Survivor” winners list.) The past six cycles in a row have all resulted in male champions, with the most recent woman winner being Sarah Lacina in Season 34. With the Season 41 finale set for Wednesday night, all eyes are on whether one of the last two females on the island (Erika Casupanan or Heather Aldret) can break the curse this year. Or will one of the three men prevail instead?

Xavier Prather, the historic first African-American winner of “Big Brother,” has tweeted a two-word response to “Survivor’s” all-Black alliance: “Everybody eats.”
His comment is a direct reference to the Cookout, the name of his “BB23” alliance from this summer that dominated the game, resulting in all six members making it to the end and Xavier winning the $750,000 grand prize. Now a similar alliance has been created on “Survivor 41” consisting of the four remaining Black players: Shantel “Shan” Smith, Liana Wallace, Deshawn Radden and Danny McCray.

After kinda-sorta merging during the sixth episode of Season 41, these four castaways struck an agreement to remain loyal to each other for the rest of the game. While they didn’t give an official name to their group, some “Survivor” fans took to social media to call the new alliance the Campout, a clever callback to the Cookout.

When the merge kinda-sorta happened on the sixth episode of “Survivor 41,” it brought together people from all three tribes. Immediately, the show’s four remaining Black castaways — Shantel “Shan” Smith from Ua, Liana Wallace from Yase, and Deshawn Radden and Danny McCray from Luvu — struck an agreement to remain loyal to each other for the rest of the game. While they didn’t give an official name to their group, fans of “Big Brother 23” immediately had flashbacks to the Cookout alliance, which dominated that season and resulted in a Black person winning for the first time ever.

Apparently it’s not just the fans who are going through “Survivor” withdrawals due to the coronavirus-induced hiatus, but also the former players. Russell Hantz, the three-time legend from “Samoa,” “Heroes vs. Villains” and “Redemption Island,” recently angry-tweeted at host Jeff Probst over the extended delay for Season 41. Russell’s argument? Since “The Bachelorette” can produce new episodes during a pandemic (with contestants even “exchanging saliva”), then “Survivor” should find a way, too. “Let’s get it figured out! Everyone else is,” he wrote.

This summer marks the 20th anniversary of “Survivor” premiering on CBS, and Gervase Peterson is now speaking out about his experience. “I honestly don’t have any regrets” about either of the two times he played, he tells EW.com. This fan-fave original castaway came in seventh place in “Borneo” (2000) and third place in “Blood vs. Water” (2013). “It changed my life, and I have loved every minute of playing it.” Gervase also opens up about what he’d change about the long-running reality TV show, proclaiming, “I would make ‘Survivor’ more equally diverse.”
He continues, “For years, it was a standard of one Black man and one Black woman. That’s just terrible. Also, more diversity in casting and production. This would help in a more diverse cast and the telling of the diverse cast stories and not labeling them with negative stereotypes. It’s been long overdue.” Over the first 40 seasons of “Survivor,...

After two decades of buildup, “Survivor: Winners at War” finally debuted February 12, 2020 on CBS. In the two-hour season premiere, 20 fan-favorite champions returned for a shot at a record high prize of $2 million. The first two voted-out players were Natalie Anderson and Amber Brkich Mariano, but they’re hardly the only ones to feel the agony of having their torches snuffed by Jeff Probst. If you’re looking for Season 40 spoilers on every elimination so far, you’ve come to the right place. Tour our photos above to see the updated “Survivor” bootlist.

In Wednesday’s third episode of “Survivor: Winners at War,” Amber Mariano ditches her Edge of Extinction co-inhabitants Natalie Anderson and Danni Boatwright when they’re out hunting for clues. “Amber’s figured out something,” Danni proclaims in CBS’s preview trailer (watch above). We then see a shot of Amber running along the beach, with Natalie shouting, “Amber, where are you going?!” Has Amber found the location of the next advantage that she must sell to someone in the game for one fire token?

Natalie knows all about the currency system on the Edge of Extinction, as she’s already taken advantage of it twice. In the season premiere she sold Sandra Diaz-Twine a hidden immunity idol, and in the second episode she sold a “safety without power” advantage to Jeremy Collins.

“Survivor: Winners at War” may purport to decide the best winner of all time, but 18 former champions could plausibly dispute that. While Season 40 does have “Survivor” legends like Rob Mariano, Parvati Shallow and Sandra Diaz-Twine, it does not include every past winner. For instance, the first two winners, Richard Hatch and Tina Wesson, are missing from the “Winners at War” cast despite being from two of the most-watched seasons in the show’s history. Check out our photos above of all 18 “Survivor” winners not on the Season 40 cast.

Many fans consider Parvati to be the most savvy castaway to ever play “Survivor,” thanks in part to the effortless way in which she convinced Erik Reichenbach to give up his immunity necklace in “Fans vs. Favorites.” Parvati and her fellow femme fatales then promptly voted him out. Will ‘Survivor’ celebrate its 40th season with an all-winners edition? And should they do it? [Poll]
Richard Hatch vs. Sandra Diaz-Twine vs. Boston Rob? Oh, my.
For now, such a showdown is just a dream. However, there are rumbles in the “Survivor” jungle about what might be store for CBS’ reality show’s landmark 40th season. And it is quite an epic mind-blower: an all-winner cast pitted against one another. Inside Survivor and Reality Blurred both suggested that it is being considered for the series’ 20th anniversary next year.
The one blip that suggests that this isn’t quite a done deal yet derives from an interview that host Jeff Probst gave “Us Weekly” last summer during filming of Season 38. “We can’t do all winners. As a producer, I would never suggest it. I would say it’s not a good idea.”
What? Why not? “We have 10 great winners that you’d want to see play again. We don’t have 20. We don’t have...

Everyone knows that Survivor is a highly edited show.
Over a period of three days, multiple cameras film between 300-500 hours of footage. Then, a team of editors boil all that footage down to one 44-minute episode.
Dan Foley, the latest contestant voted off the island, says he watched the first two episodes and realized that he was going to get a villain's edit. But even he seems surprised at how negatively he was portrayed – and how vitriolic the viewer response has been.
So what did we miss? Foley, a 47-year-old postal worker from Maine, was happy to tell us.
