4 Theories Behind Bruce Lee’s Death: From Drinking Too Much Water to Heat Stroke
Image
Bruce Lee was found unconscious on July 20, 1973, after he went to sleep complaining about a headache. He was pronounced dead at the hospital. He was at the home of Taiwanese actress Betty Ting Pei in Kowloon, Hong Kong. He was 32 years old at the time of his death. Dr. Peter Wu, a neurosurgeon, confirmed that his death was caused by cerebral edema or swelling of the brain.

There have been some crazy theories regarding his death, which had nothing to do with his cerebral edema. Some believed that he was assassinated by the Mafia. They suspected that Lee’s encounter with director Lo Wei two weeks before his death had something to do with his death. Others also called it a family curse after his son Brandon Lee also died young in a set accident.

However, the more believable theories suggested what caused his cerebral edema. Here are some of these theories,...

The Girl Locked Upstairs: The Tanya Kach Story Review – A Story of Survival
Image
From her first lonely days at a new school to finding a glimmer of kindness after a decade in captivity, Tanya’s harrowing experience drives this film. We meet Tanya as she enters high school, struggling to find her place.

Bullied by classmates and living apart from her family, she’s deserted on the bleachers one day when security guard Tom approaches. Helping with a lost necklace, he sees her vulnerability and moves in, gaining her trust with gifts and attention. But darkness lurks below as he soon lures her away, trapping her for a torturous decade behind closed doors.

While the film spares graphic details, Simone Stock’s direction immerses us in Tanya’s ordeal. Through flashes of dialogue and Jordyn Olson’s nuanced performance, we live every gut-wrenching moment as the lonely teen deprived of sunlight and dignity.

Yet glimmers of hope remain—brief encounters where shop owners...

ABC 20/20 “‘Fabio Sementilli” May 17 2024 Recap & Preview
Deborah Roberts and David Muir in 20/20 (1978)
ABC’s “20/20” presents a compelling and intricate tale of betrayal, conspiracy, and justice in its upcoming episode airing on May 17, 2024. The episode delves into the shocking murder of renowned beauty executive Fabio Sementilli at his home, a crime that captivated public attention and unraveled a web of deception.

Initially believed to be a botched robbery, the investigation took a dramatic turn when DNA evidence led authorities to focus on Robert Baker, a racquetball coach engaged in an affair with Fabio’s wife, Monica Sementilli. The revelation of this affair introduced a motive for murder, driven by a desire to escape their marriage and potentially benefit financially.

The subsequent trials and sentencing saw Baker plead no contest to charges of first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder, receiving a life sentence without parole. However, Monica Sementilli’s role in the murder remains contested, with her trial set for April 2024. The...

'Lost' Roger Corman Comedy Starring Mark Hamill to Debut on Crackle
Image
A forgotten Roger Corman movie has been "saved" by Crackle, and it will very soon be available to stream for free.

Back in 2013, Corman premiered the action-comedy film Virtually Heroes at the Sundance Film Festival. The film then vanished before it was given a limited theatrical and digital release by Screen Media late last year. Now, Geek Vibes Nation reports that Crackle has picked up Virtually Heroes, setting the film for a release on the streaming service on Aug. 1, 2023.

Related: B-Movie Legend Roger Corman Says Marvel Films are Too Simplistic

According to the report, Virtually Heroes is a film that was crafted together primarily to appease Corman's desire to utilize stock footage to direct a modern war film. Screenwriters G.J. Echternkamp and Matt Yamashita came up with the idea of introducing a video game world in the story to better explain the stock footage. Star Wars legend Mark Hamill is...

All 13 Bruce Lee Movie Villains (& The Martial Artists Who Played Them)
Image
Bruce Lee fights many memorable villains in his filmography, with many of them being incredible martial artists themselves. While Bruce Lee began as a child actor in Hong Kong, he began to rise to greater prominence in the late '60s with his role as Kato on The Green Hornet. Bruce Lee later achieved greater notoriety through his roles in movies like The Big Boss, Fist of Fury, and The Way of the Dragon, though he sadly passed away before the release of 1973's Enter the Dragon, which launched him to worldwide fame.

Bruce Lee's five martial arts films have elevated him to become the greatest legend of the martial arts movie genre. Of course, achieving such status is impossible without overcoming some very challenging and formidable villains, and those faced by Bruce Lee are highly revered martial arts masters themselves. Here are the 13 martial artists who portray the villains of Bruce Lee's filmography.

How To Watch Mark Hamill's Lost Roger Corman Movie, Virtually Heroes, At Home
Image
At 96 years old, movie producer Roger Corman described himself as "semi-retired" in a 2022 interview with Paste, noting that he still has a deal to remake "Little Shop of Horrors" for Paramount Pictures. With a career spanning over 400 movies, which helped launch the careers of filmmakers like James Cameron, Martin Scorsese, and Francis Ford Coppola, Corman has made just about every kind of genre movie under the sun -- including a video game movie starring Mark Hamill.

"Virtually Heroes" isn't a movie based on a video game, but rather a low-budget precursor to "Free Guy," starring Robert Baker and Brent Chase as two video game characters who are tired of dying over and over again. In a nod to his most famous role, Hamill plays a wise monk in brown robes who agrees to teach Baker's character "the cheat codes of life."

Mark Hamill Leads Players Through Call Of Duty-Style Game In Virtually Heroes
Image
Screen Rant is pleased to present an exclusive clip from the upcoming video-on-demand release of Virtually Heroes. Ten years after it was originally screened at the Sundance Film Festival in 2013, the film is finally set to release to a wide audience. Virtually Heroes was executive produced by Roger Corman, and directed and produced by Gj Echternkamp. The film stars Robert Baker (Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull), Brent Chase (Shameless), Katie Savoy (How I Met Your Mother), and Mark Hamill (Star Wars). Virtually Heroes will be released on video on demand on January 17th.

This Call of Duty-inspired story features two self-aware characters who must battle endless enemies and their own existential crises in a video game world. Sgt. Books (Baker) seeks help and finds riddles in the straight-talking Monk (Hamill) whose personality recalls a similar enigmatic character Hamill himself had to face in The Empire Strikes Back.

Virtually Heroes Clip: Robert Baker Finds Love Inside a Game
Image
Shoot the bad guys, complete the level, and get the girl. That seems to be the directive for Robert Baker (Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull) in legendary filmmaker Roger Corman's (The Wild Angels) lost film Virtually Heroes. With the 2013 Sundance Film Festival selection finally seeing a release thanks to Screen Media, Collider can exclusively reveal a new clip from the film that sees Baker's character Books about to find love with a reporter. Things are complicated, however, by the fact that Books is a self-aware being in a video game full of NPCs that only know what they're programmed to do. The film recounts his journey as he faces an existential crisis and ultimately receives a little guidance to become the hero he needs to be to beat the game and ride off with the girl.

A 'Lost' Mark Hamill Movie Is Finally Being Released After 10 Years
Image
To begin with a personal anecdote:

From 2000 to 2003, this author worked as an intern for New Concorde, a.k.a. Concorde New Horizons, Roger Corman's production company. As an intern, most of my duties involved going into oil-scented basement rooms to find physical advertising assets for long-forgotten "Emmanuelle" sequels and early Ron Howard pictures. I also had the privilege of reading a myriad of scripts, as many B-movie hopefuls would mail drafts to the known lord of the format. After several years, I was finally offered a job. I was to be paid a very modest amount to work as a production assistant on a Stacy Keach war movie called "When Eagles Strike," directed by Cirio H. Santiago. While the exteriors were filmed in the Philippines, the indoor scenes were filmed in a tiny studio just off of Melrose Blvd. in Hollywood, CA. The studio was made up to...

Screen Media Buys Lost Roger Corman Film ‘Virtually Heroes’ (Exclusive)
Image
Screen Media has nabbed North American distribution rights to “Virtually Heroes,” an action comedy that was produced by Roger Corman nearly a decade ago but was left without a home.

The release of the film has been a long time coming. “Virtually Heroes” was an official selection of the 2013 Sundance Film Festival, but despite Corman’s legendary status as the Picasso of B movies, it never landed distribution. The film was directed and produced by Gj Echternkamp (“Frank and Cindy”) and stars Robert Baker (“Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull”), Brent Chase (“Shameless”), Katie Savoy (“How I Met Your Mother”) and Mark Hamill of “Star Wars” fame.

It centers on two self-aware characters in a “Call of Duty”-inspired video game as they battle endless enemies and their own existential crises. With the help of Hamill’s Yoda-like monk, they attempt to win the game and get the girl.

Chris Pine Q&a: The Barry Linen Co-Founder On Ramping Up His Banner’s Slate, His Directing Debut On ‘Poolman’, Potential Captain Kirk Return & “Following The Giggle”
Image
Exclusive: To most movie stars, having two movies dropping within seven days of each other would seem like they are plenty busy, but for Chris Pine, that’s just the tip of the iceberg.

Besides having The Contractor and All the Old Knives going day-and-date on April 1 and April 8, respectively, Pine also is deep in prep on his directorial debut Poolman, which he is also starring in, while also building out a robust development slate for his production banner Barry Linen Pictures, which he co-founded with his partner Ian Gotler. On top of all that, he has the thriller Don’t Worry Darling bowing in fall, followed by another potential franchise in Dungeons & Dragons coming out next year. Oh, and there is that potential return to the USS Enterprise as he is in talks to reprise his star-making role of Captain Kirk for a fourth time in the next installment of the Star Trek franchise.

Film Review: Fist of Fury (1972) by Lo Wei
Image
The beginning of the 1970s marks a very decisive time in the biography of Bruce Lee, as he started to become the man we now know as one of the great icons of martial arts and cinema as a whole, with the huge commercial and critical success of “The Big Boss” (1971). Given this development, Hong Kong producer Raymond Chow, director Lo Wei and Lee decided to continue their fruitful and highly lucrative collaboration just one year later with “Fist of Fury”, a feature based on the popular legend surrounding Huo Yuanjia, a hero of the people who opposed Japanese rule. In the end, the trio managed to continue their former success and created a movie which stands out as a true masterclass in action/ martial arts cinema, but also as a great story about a rebel, a figure Bruce Lee, perhaps like no other actor of his generation, played so well in so many variations.

The Flesh and the Fiends

Blu ray

Kino Lorber

1960 /95 min.

Starring Peter Cushing, Donald Pleasence, George Rose, Billie Whitelaw

Cinematography by Monty Berman

Directed by John Gilling

The Flesh and the Fiends lives up to its name and then some. The setting is Scotland but the squalid streets and charnel houses suggest Dickens’ London at its bleakest. Everything is for sale here, the fleshy whores of the cathouses and the fiends who haunt them. On the other side of the tracks lives Robert Knox, a respected anatomist at Edinburgh University who pays for his flesh too – the bodies necessary for his livelihood are in scarce supply and grave robbers William Burke and William Hare are ready to deliver.

Venerated by his students while castigated by old guard medicos, the forward-thinking Knox is a formidable presence at the podium with only one thing to mar his handsome profile, a blind eye.

Wrecked: TBS Cancellation Confirmed; No Season Four
It's official. Like the passengers of the SS Minnow before them, the Lotus airlines castaways will remain stranded. As reported in February, the Wrecked TV show on TBS has been cancelled. At that time, star Zach Cregger announced the series' end on Twitter. Now the TBS cancellation has been confirmed.

A TBS single-camera comedy, Wrecked also stars Ally Maki, Asif Ali, Brian Sacca, Brooke Dillman, Jessica Lowe, Rhys Darby, and Will Greenberg. Guest stars include Rob Corddry, Eugene Cordero, Jonno Roberts, Karan Soni, Rachel House, Robert Baker, and Will Hines. The Lost parody centers on a diverse group of strangers who are stranded on a deserted island after a plane crash. In the third and final season, the castaways find themselves shipwrecked on a mysterious billionaire’s private island, where they're forced to hunt each other to the death in a basic-cable battle royale.

‘Wrecked’ Canceled by TBS After 3 Seasons
Brooke Dillman, Rhys Darby, Zach Cregger, Ally Maki, Will Greenberg, Brian Sacca, Jessica Lowe, and Asif Ali in Wrecked (2016)
It’s official — TBS will not be ordering a fourth season of its comedy series Wrecked.

The writing had been on the wall for the series about a group of people stranded on an island, after their airplane crashed in the ocean. Its third season ended its run in October, and star Zach Cregger indicated on Twitter last summer that there would be no fourth season.

Wrecked, a comedic take on Lost — was a breakout hit for TBS when it debuted in 2016 but its ratings have tapered off since then.

Wrecked was about a diverse group of airplane passengers stranded on an uninhabited island, a dangerous new world where they must face many threats – mostly brought on by themselves. No longer plugged into the rest of the world, the group struggled to navigate their makeshift society while also learning to live without such modern comforts as indoor plumbing, wi-fi, social media and Chipotle.

Jack the Ripper
Jack the Ripper

Blu ray

Severin Films

1959 / 1.33:1 – 1:66:1 / 84 Min. / Street Date – January 29, 2019

Starring Lee Patterson, Eddie Byrne

Cinematography by Robert Baker, Monty Berman

Directed by Robert Baker, Monty Berman

Jack the Ripper arrived in America with the kind of fanfare usually reserved for visiting royalty. Thanks to Joseph E. Levine’s million dollar promotional blitz the British shocker rode a wave of irresistible ballyhoo including a soundtrack LP and a typically salacious Monarch paperback that promised a walk on the wild side for adventurous ticket buyers.

Jack was the talk of the schoolyard but once the movie hit theaters it disappeared as quickly as its namesake. Since 1960 the elusive thriller has dipped in and out of sight like the Loch Ness monster until recently surfacing on a new Blu ray from Severin Films – viewers can be forgiven for thinking it should have stayed at the bottom of the lake.

Supergirl Is A Force Against Fear On First Season 4 Poster
The Girl of Steel is returning to our screens in just under a month and from everything we’ve heard so far, Supergirl‘s fourth season promises to be a particularly awesome run of the Arrowverse show.

Even if you’re not feeling the hype just yet, don’t worry, as this cool new poster for the upcoming season should hopefully fix that. With a bold red color scheme, the one-sheet sees Melissa Benoist in full regalia as the Last Daughter of Krypton, with the caption teasing that season 4 will see Kara Zor-El play the part of “a force against fear.”

Check it out in the gallery below:

Supergirl Returns In Brand New Season 4 Premiere Photos
Supergirl returns to The CW next month for its fourth season and these promo photos, courtesy of SpoilerTV, tease what’s in store in the premiere, titled “The American Alien.”

In particular, season 4 will introduce a few new faces into National City and a handful of them are showcased in these images. First off, Nicole Maines is joining the cast as Nia Nal. As the photos make clear, the character will initially appear as a new employee of CatCo, though we know that Nia will be revealed as a superhero at some point – TV’s first ever transgender hero, to be specific. Going by the snaps, it looks like Nia and Kara will be firm pals from the off, too.

On the villainous side of things, the premiere will also see the arrival of two new foes on Supergirl’s turf: Mercy and Otis Graves (as played by Rhona Mitra...

Supergirl Faces Her Fears In New Season 4 Trailer
Supergirl returns to The CW for its fourth season in just a few short weeks and this new promo is here to tease what we can expect from the premiere, titled “American Alien” – a name familiar to DC fans as it’s the name of Max Landis’ 2015 Superman storyline. Don’t expect more than the title to make the jump to the screen, though, as this trailer promises an all-new adventure for the titular hero.

Tying the promo together is a voiceover from Kara Danvers (Melissa Benoist). Speaking to someone off-screen, the Girl of Steel opens up about how even she’s scared, and how when she’s bested one fear a new one will always come along, but she says that she doesn’t let it stop her from “jumping right back out there.” It’s a nice speech and a strong way to remind us of who Supergirl...

Supergirl Season 4 Recasts Brent Spiner’s Major Character
Supergirl season 4 was set to add Star Trek: The Next Generation legend Brent Spiner to its line-up in the important recurring role of the Vice President of the United States. Unfortunately, though, Spiner’s had to step back from the part due to a family issue. And instead of rewriting scripts until the actor may become available again, Supergirl‘s production team has decided to just recast the role completely.

In place of Spiner, they’ve gone for another sci-fi icon from the 1990s. Bruce Boxleitner, most known for his role in Babylon 5, will be stepping into Spiner’s shoes to play Vice President Baker. Presumably, the character description released online a few weeks ago is still relevant, in which case Baker is set to be “adept and politically minded,” and “makes for an unlikely leader, but steps up in a big way when his country needs him most.

Supergirl Casts Star Trek’s Brent Spiner As Its Vice President
Supergirl is adding a legend of the Star Trek franchise to its cast for the upcoming fourth season in the form of Brent Spiner, most well known as Data in The Next Generation. He’ll be playing Vice President Baker, who’s described as “adept and politically minded,” and “makes for an unlikely leader, but steps up in a big way when his country needs him most.”

While it’s exciting for genre fans to see Spiner join the cast Supergirl, the description of the character doesn’t bode well for President Olivia Marsdin, as played by Wonder Woman icon Lynda Carter. The actress recently revealed that she was returning to The CW show for the first time since season 2, so we hoped we might see a lot more of her this year. However, it looks like something happens to Marsdin, which means Baker has to step in and take charge of the country.

Supergirl Season 4 Casts Lex Luthor’s Henchmen Mercy Graves And Otis
It looks like Supergirl‘s adding even more characters from Superman lore for its upcoming run.

As revealed by Deadline, British actress Rhona Mitra has been cast as Mercy Graves for the upcoming fourth season of The CW show. First created for Superman: The Animated Series, Mercy’s usually depicted as the loyal bodyguard/assistant of Lex Luthor. She previously inspired the character of Tess Mercer in Smallville and Tao Okomoto played the part in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice.

Mitra will be portraying a very different version of Mercy, however, as this iteration will be going at it solo and attempting to make a name for herself away from the service of the Luthor family. Judging by this description, it sounds like she’ll also be an ally of Agent Liberty’s (Sam Witwer) alien-hating “human-first” movement.

“Mercy Graves (Mitra) is an ex-Cadmus agent who has always believed in human exceptionalism.

Supergirl Season 4: Lex Luthor Episode Trailer and Details
Mike Cecchini Mar 11, 2019

Lex Luthor is coming to the Arrowverse on Supergirl Season 4, and he'll be played by Jon Cryer.

Supergirl has done more than its share of bringing characters from Superman's world into the fold. For starters, Jimmy Olsen is in nearly every episode, and we had an entire season with Cat Grant making Kara's life a little bit more anxious, and another with Metropolis' own Maggie Sawyer. The show brought Tyler Hoechlin in as Superman himself in the season two opener, which itself was loaded with Man of Steel lore and again for the brilliant Elseworlds crossover. We've had plenty of one-and-done villains and minor recurring characters who come right out of the pages of Superman comics, but one has cast the longest shadow...

Lex Luthor.

The Luthor family is inescapable on Supergirl, with Kara's increasingly uneasy friendship with Lena Luthor taking the spotlight during season three, and...

Supergirl Adds Rhona Mitra to Play DC Villainess Mercy Graves in Season 4
Rhona Mitra
Supergirl will be showing us a little Mercy next season: Rhona Mitra (The Last Ship) is joining the Season 4 cast of The CW’s superhero drama in a season-long recurring role as villainess Mercy Graves, our sister site Deadline is reporting.

Mercy Graves is known from the comics as super villain Lex Luthor’s longtime bodyguard. “But with both Lex and Lillian in prison,” according to the official description, “Mercy is stepping out of the Luthor shadow and running her own show. With her biting wit and lethal brawn, Mercy steadily becomes a key figure in National City’s growing ‘human-first’ movement.

‘Supergirl’: Rhona Mitra To Play Mercy Graves On The CW Series, Robert Baker Also Cast
Rhona Mitra
Exclusive: A new villain is rising in National City. Rhona Mitra has been tapped for a recurring role on the CW’s series Supergirl as Mercy Graves, Lex Luthor’s longtime bodyguard. Also cast in a recurring role on the DC series is Robert Baker, who will play Mercy’s brother, Otis Graves.

Based on the iconic DC character, Mercy Graves (Mitra) is an ex-Cadmus agent who has always believed in human exceptionalism. But with both Lex and Lillian in prison, Mercy is stepping out of the Luthor shadow and running her own show. With her biting wit and lethal brawn, Mercy steadily becomes a key figure in National City’s growing “human-first” movement.

Baker’s Otis Graves is Mercy’s defacto right hand man. What he lacks in brains, he makes up for with his savant-like abilities to assassinate aliens. Otis is a character from the Superman movies...

'Agents of Shield' episode 9 'Repairs' recap: A ray of hope for Melinda May
The dark reason behind Melinda May's nickname was revealed in "Marvel's Agents of Shield" episode 9, "Repairs." Though the story behind "The Cavalry" twisted and morphed over the years, Coulson tells Skye that the incident that caused May to go cold was not a happy one.

According to him, May was a bit like Skye before she found herself in a situation she came out the worst for fixing. No one knows the details of the mission except May (which means it will take until at least the next sweeps period for the audience to find out as well), but Coulson says it caused May to lose herself.

Skye deduces that Coulson is keeping May around to try to warm her up again, and it seems like it's working. The post-credits scene shows that May got in on the aircraft prank war (which has a real-life parallel offscreen) by putting shaving...
