CNN Works to Keep ‘Morning’ Drama Off Screen as Don Lemon Returns
Image
If Don Lemon is being squeezed behind the scenes at CNN after making polarizing remarks last week, none of the pulp is showing up on camera.

Lemon returned to “CNN This Morning” Wednesday after being absent from the new A.M. program for three consecutive broadcasts following pushback — both internal and external — to comments he made about when women are in their prime, dialogue that generated opposition not only from his co-anchors, Poppy Harlow and Kaitlan Collins but viewers and colleagues. None of the trio mentioned the incident on air Wednesday, focusing instead on delivering the news. Collins held forth from Poland; Harlow interviewed Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz; Lemon juggled multiple tasks and noted the historic moment President Biden was having this week.

Lemon has already made two apologies for the gaffe, and added a third Wednesday before appearing in front of CNN cameras. ” appreciate the opportunity to be back on @CNNThisMorning today,...

After Megyn Kelly, Madison Avenue Expects a More Traditional ‘Today’
Going forward, the 9 a.m. hour of NBC’s “Today” is likely to be more about the show than the anchors who host it.

With Megyn Kelly in discussions with NBC about her future at the network, media-buying executives say they expect the Peacock to return the third hour of its morning franchise to a more traditional format. Gone is “Megyn Kelly Today,” and in its place, well, “Today,” the TV brand that has been associated with morning TV since the middle of January in 1952. One ad buying executive suggested NBC could make an announcement in the near future regarding talent for the hour and indicated the network would likely position the move as “a host change within the ‘Today Show’ line-up” rather than a cancellation of Kelly’s program.

“’Megyn Kelly Today’ is not returning,” NBC said Friday. “Next week, the 9 a.m. hour will be hosted by other ‘Today’ co-anchors.

Megyn Kelly’s Blackface Misstep Proves She’s Out of Step With NBC (Column)
Megyn Kelly in Megyn Kelly Presents (2016)
In issuing a defense of blackface Tuesday before contritely apologizing on Wednesday, Megyn Kelly learned her hardest lesson yet about how her current job at NBC differs from her old one at Fox News. And while she sought to clean up her own mess, there remains one question that’s beyond her ken to answer: Just how many more times she’ll be permitted to learn that lesson.

That Kelly crossed a rhetorical line should come as no surprise. After launching her show with the insistence that she no longer wanted to cover political topics at all, Kelly found herself drawn, by some combination of ratings necessity and trollish temperament, towards controversy, sitting as the moderator of a rotating panel she dominates through force of opinion. The blackface conversation — in which Kelly questioned why darkening one’s skin for a Halloween costume is a big deal at all, noting that...

Megyn Kelly Says “I’m Sorry” On Air For Blackface Defense
Updated with video: “I want to begin with two words: ‘I’m sorry’,” NBC News morning show host Megyn Kelly said at the top of her show the morning after she got torched for defending blackface for Halloween.

“Yesterday we had a discussion here about political correctness and Halloween costumes,” she said.

“And that conversation turned to whether it is ever okay for a person of one race to dress up as another – a black person making their race lighter or a white person making theirs darker, to make a costume complete.”

“I defended the idea saying as long as it was respectful, and part of a Halloween costume, it seemed okay.”

“Well I was wrong and I am sorry.”

“One of the great parts of sitting in this chair each day is getting to discuss diff points of view. Sometimes I talk and sometimes I listen, and yesterday I learned.

Megyn Kelly, Under Tough Spotlight, Apologizes Again For ‘Blackface’ Gaffe
Megyn Kelly in Megyn Kelly Presents (2016)
Megyn Kelly hasn’t been shy about turning recent controversies at NBC News into fodder for her morning program at the network. Now NBC News is doing much the same with a blunder she made on her show Tuesday.

Both “NBC Nightly News” and “Today” have aired segments examining statements Kelly made Tuesday on her 9 a.m. program, “Megyn Kelly Today,” about dressing up in blackface or whiteface for Halloween. “What is racist?” she asked a panel that included Jenna Bush Hager, Jacob Soboroff and Melissa Rivers. “You do get in trouble if you are a white person who puts on blackface for Halloween, or a black person who puts on whiteface for Halloween. Back when I was a kid, that was okay just as long as you were dressing as a character.”

A visibly emotional Kelly opened her broadcast Wednesday with an apology. “I want to open with two words: I’m sorry.

Bill Maher Snarks On Hillary Clinton’s DNC Nomination: ‘First We Had Lady Ghostbusters and Now This’ — Watch
Tim Kaine
Bill Maher didn’t shy away from ribbing Hillary Clinton on the evening she officially accepted the Democratic nomination for President of the United States. On a special edition of HBO’s “Real Time With Bill Maher,” Maher compared Clinton’s historic nomination to the recent strides Hollywood has made toward telling more female-driven stories.

“You just watched history being made. First we had lady Ghostbusters and now this!” Maher said. “America is on a roll ladies and gentleman.”

Clinton was not the only Democrat Maher chided during his opening monologue, however. He also took a shot at her running mate, Virginia Senator Tim Kaine.

“The Democrats did much better with their convention. More viewers watched. They had so much more fire power, so many gifts speakers, strong leaders, exciting visionaries, and also Tim Kaine,” Maher said. “Did you see Tim Kaine? I don’t want to say it was...

Bill Maher On Hillary Clinton Nomination: “First, Lady Ghostbusters And Now This; America’s On A Roll!”
Bill Maher and guests Salman Rushdie, Michael Moynihan and Amy Holmes discussed the 2016 Democratic National Convention during Thursday’s special edition of Real Time. The episode was preceded by a repeat due to Hillary Clinton’s speech running long and began about 27 minutes later than scheduled. Maher noted that Clinton had just become the first woman nominated to run for President by a major political party in this country, and that elsewhere in the world they were…...

Conservative Amy Holmes Scorches Discriminatory ‘Stop-And-Frisk’ On MSNBC
Amy Holmes, former speechwriter for Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist (R-tn) and anchor of Real News on The Blaze TV, ripped New York City’s controversial “stop-question-and-frisk” policy in an appearance with MSNBC’s Chris Jansing. Holmes said that she believes the policy is racially discriminatory because, in her wealthier and whiter Manhattan neighborhood, criminal behavior is practiced in the open without fear of police reprisal.

Jeff Zucker’s ‘Anderson Cooper 360′ Experiment Ends In 4th Place For Week
Anderson Cooper 360 may have had a new format at 10 Pm on CNN this week, but it didn’t have many viewers. The new panel-style show that ran Monday-Thursday was the least-watched broadcast on cable news in the time slot and the second-lowest in the adults 25-54 demographic. The show had a coatless Cooper debating with permanent panelists Amy Holmes of The Blaze, CNN’s Jeffery Tobin and Christiane Amanpour, plus Andrew Sullivan, Anthony Bourdain, former White House Press Secretary Ari Fleisher, and ex-Desperate Housewives star Eva Longoria joining on separate days. On average over the week, the revamped AC 360 garnered 503,000 viewers, and 167,000 in the demo. In terms of viewership, the latest experiment of the Jeff Zucker regime was behind Fox News’ On The Record (1.436 million viewers/206,000 in demo), MSNBC’s Last Word With Lawrence O’Donnell (654,000 viewers/146,000 in demo) and CNN sister station Hln’s After Dark (588,000 viewers/194,000 in demo), according to Nielsen.

Sneak Peek: "NewNowNext Vote with Wanda Sykes"
Wanda Sykes cuts through the muck of the 2012 Presidential Election as only she can with a rapid-fire, roundtable discussion of political issues featuring a bi-partisan panel of politicos in Logo’s NewNowNext Vote with Wanda Sykes election special.

Says Wanda to the attending Republican panelists: "I'm a black, gay woman. I think the only way to make the Gop hate me more is if I sent them a video of me rolling around on a pile of welfare checks."

The show aims to educate, activate and entertain viewers while shining a spotlight on the state of national politics through an Lgbt lens. The first of several specials was taped on Friday in front of a live studio audience in Times Square in New York City, and the panel got into some heated (and frequently comedic) debates on topics such as the economy, healthcare, education, women’s rights, job protection and gay marriage.

Piers Morgan Tells Breitbart He Is Looking ‘A Lot Less Evil’ In Gop Primary Rematch
Andrew Breitbart and Piers Morgan have made up since the time Morgan joked the former was "evil." Not that he didn't joke about it last night, but with that tension out of the way, the two-- and a panel including Amy Holmes and Michael Reagan got to the business of just how conservatives could like Newt Gingrich again, of all people, and came to a strong conclusion: conservatives want someone to defend them from the mainstream media.

Bill Maher, Andrew Breitbart, And Seth MacFarlane Bond Over Trashing Democrats
When it was announced earlier in the week, a round table on Real Time with Bill Maher involving Andrew Breitbart and Seth MacFarlane sounded like a guaranteed shoutfest, with Amy Holmes of the Talk Radio Network caught in the crossfire. For anyone who eagerly popped the popcorn thinking Bill Maher was going to make it a bad night for his right-wing guests, it was a disappointing event: the discussion was amicable, civil, and shockingly ended in agreement.
