Over a decade ago, Chris Pratt starred in the first The Lego Movie, the very one that began the iconic franchise inspired by the famous line of construction toys. Released in the U.S. in February 2014, the film was an instant favorite among critics, who gave it a fresh 96% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Ten years later, it landed on the popular streamer Netflix, precisely on June 1, 2024, after which it garnered even more attention from both old and new fans. Sadly, the film’s time on the platform is coming to an end very soon, with reports confirming only a few days left before its removal.

During the heyday of arcades and mall culture, Dragon’s Lair wasn’t just another cabinet among the crowd, it was a revolution in gaming.
Launched in 1983, the game stood out instantly thanks to its lush, hand-drawn animation by former Disney visionary Don Bluth.
At a time when blocky pixel art dominated screens, Dragon’s Lair looked and felt like a fully playable cartoon, drawing players in with an experience unlike anything else on the market.
Powered by LaserDisc technology, the game featured full-motion video (Fmv) that allowed for smooth, cinematic storytelling. Instead of navigating a pixelated avatar, players guided Dirk the Daring, a fearless yet bumbling knight, through a fantasy adventure to save Princess Daphne from the evil dragon Singe and the sinister wizard Mordroc.
Though its plot was straightforward, the real magic of Dragon’s Lair was in its visual storytelling and unpredictable gameplay. Every wrong move triggered a unique and often hilarious death animation,...

If you’ve got Ptsd from pumping quarters into Rick Dyer’s Dragon’s Lair arcade game, look away! This article could cause traumatic memories to resurface as we remember the pain of dying repeatedly and kissing your hard-earned couch change goodbye. According to Jeff Sneider, multiple sources say The Muppets director James Bobin is in negotiations to direct Netflix’s live-action adaptation of the beloved ’80s video game Dragon’s Lair, with Ryan Reynolds attached to star.
Discussions about adapting the quarter-killing video game were announced in 2020. Ryan Reynolds would play Dirk the Daring, the game’s main protagonist, a knight tasked with rescuing Princess Daphne from Mordroc and Singe. Reynolds’s Maximum Effort would produce the feature alongside George Dewey and Patrick Gooing. Sneider says Vertigo’s Roy Lee and Underground’s Trevor Engelson will also produce with Gary Goldman, Jon Pomeroy, and Don Bluth, who co-created the original game with Rick Dyer.

Hear ye, hear ye: Netflix's Dragon's Lairvideo game adaptation with Ryan Reynolds might have just found its knight in shining armor in The Muppets and Muppets Most Wanted helmer James Bobin. The filmmaker may be more adept at dealing with frogs and swamps than knights and kingdoms, but he is reportedly in talks to direct the live-action spin of the 1980s arcade classic. The project was greenlit by Netflix back in 2020 after a year of negotiations to try and secure the rights to the game franchise that is headlined by Dirk the Daring.
Bobin is perhaps best known for helming the two puppet pictures led by Kermit the Frog, but he has also taken the reins on a selection of other family-friendly films in the years since, including Disney's Alice Through the Looking Glass and Paramount's Dora the Lost City of Gold. He most recently directed two episodes...

Muppets Most Wanted director James Bobin is reportedly in negotiations to take on Netflix’s spin on the 1980s videogame, Dragon’s Lair.
Netflix’s planned adaptation of the 1983 videogame Dragon’s Lair looks to have taken a sizeable step forward, with the news that James Bobin is in talks to direct. Ryan Reynolds is producing and as far as we know, also attached to star in the project as Dirk The Daring, the slightly overwhelmed knight who ventures into the lair of Singe the Dragon with the noble intent of rescuing the fair Princess Daphne.
Bobin wrote and directed Muppets Most Wanted, while his most recent feature credit is 2019’s Dora And The Lost City Of Gold. According to The InSneider, the script is by The Lego Movie’s Dan and Kevin Hageman, with things taking a while to come together given that the duo were handed the writing assignment in...

After shepherding The Muppets to the big screen, James Bobin is about to enter the Dragon's Lair. Per The Hollywood Reporter, the director is currently in talks to take the reins of Ryan Reynolds's Netflix movie based on the legendary 1980s arcade game. Reynolds remains attached as the star of the long-gestating project and will produce alongside Roy Lee of Vertigo Entertainment in conjunction with Trevor Engelson of Underground Films. If he officially signs on, it will mark a reunion with the Deadpool & Wolverine star and the director after Bobin was previously attached to helm Reynolds' Clue remake.
Reynolds has been trying to get Dragon's Lair off the ground at Netflix since 2020. Originally, the classic game's producer, director, and animator, Don Bluth, also known for his extensive animation work at Disney and beyond, was tapped to helm the project alongside Gary Goldman, though both now remain solely as producers with Jon Pomeroy.

The crew of Star Trek: Prodigy’s U.S.S. Protostar is, for now, without a streaming home. Netflix quietly passed on a third season of the animated, kid-friendly Star Trek series just last week and is removing the series’ first two seasons by January.
The show’s creators, however, are not giving up hope for the animated series, which boasts a nearly perfect 97% on Rotten Tomatoes. Dan and Kevin Hageman, the co-creators of Prodigy, took to the social media site X to address the removal of Prodigy from Netflix and what the future holds for the animated series that follows a group of ragtag aliens who work together after they find an abandoned ship.
While the future removal of #StarTrekProdigy on Netflix is disconcerting, it has little to do with lack of viewership or anything nefarious. The license for S1 is up June 24, and S2 Dec 31. We hold out...

The streaming wars have claimed yet another victim, and this time it is Paramount+’s Star Trek series Prodigy. Initially premiering on CBS All Access (now rebranded as Paramount+), the kids’ animated show was taken off the streamer in an unprecedented move after its first season, despite love from fans and critics alike.
While it was later picked up by Netflix, which even released its second season, the streaming giant has reportedly now dropped plans for a third season, and Prodigy is left without a home again. The franchise’s first animated series is now again in limbo and might just be gone for good.

Star Trek: Prodigy won’t continue beyond the 40 released episodes, at least at Netflix. The streamer has passed on a new season, and its license for both seasons, which it now carries essentially exclusively, is ending.
As a quick refresher, Netflix picked up Star Trek: Prodigy in a surprise move over Christmas in 2023. It picked up season 1, which had just recently departed Paramount+, and announced it would carry the unreleased second season come mid-2024. Most regions of Netflix picked up the show, although it was not completely global. Major regions like Australia, the United States, and the United Kingdom picked it up while regions like Canada did not. This is down to licensing restrictions, such as in France, where the series rights belong to France TV.
Featuring the voices of Brett Gray, Ella Purnell, Jason Mantzoukas, Angus Imrie, and Rylee Alazraqui, the animated series continues to receive rave reviews.

Though children's movies have a core demographic in mind, their outreach is often so universal among audiences that they garner huge amounts of success. Production companies such as DreamWorks Animation and Disney have plenty of well-received stand-alone films, but some continue to produce sequels and prequels as they spawn into franchises.
Some films work better on their own, while others benefit from subsequent content that builds upon the stories of their predecessors. From How to Train Your Dragon to Barbie, some children's movies are timeless in how they never cease to consistently amaze over the years. Fortunately for fans, some of these successful franchises are continuing to produce movies even to this day.

The Lego movie franchise expands with Piece by Piece, and that means it's time to rank the five animated Lego movies released in theaters from worst to best. Following the initial announcement that Warner Bros. Animation would make movies based on Lego, skepticism quickly mounted. The brick-building toys - despite covering many different time periods, realities, and characters - have not been known for their storytelling. That changed with Phil Lord and Chris Miller's The Lego Movie in 2014, which follows a son trying to change the strict rules placed upon the Lego land and characters by his father.
The success of The Lego Movie spawned sequels and spinoffs from Warner Bros. over the next several years. The four films from Warner Bros. Released in 1983, Dragons Lair was a highly innovative arcade game that used laserdisc technology in a way that hadnt been seen in gaming up to that point. The graphics were spectacular, the game-play was immaculate, and it was so popular that it led to an entire franchise that birthed many sequels, comics, toys, and an animated TV series in 1984. In 2020, a live-action film was commissioned by Netflix with Ryan Reynolds tapped to play Dirk the Daring, and while it was at first thought to be an interactive film which hearkened back to the Choose Your Own Adventure books of yesteryear, all that has changed according to producer Roy Lee.

This post contains spoilers for Star Trek: Prodigy.
With the exception of Miles O’Brien, Wesley Crusher may have suffered more than any other Star Trek character. Not so much on screen, though few of us would be able to recover from a sharp “Shut up” from Captain Picard. Rather, Crusher has suffered off-screen, at the hands of viewers who hated having a precocious kid on the Enterprise during The Next Generation era and started groups devoted to imagining the character’s death.
Although Wesley has cameoed in the years after he left Tng with the Traveler, including in Picard and Lower Decks, it was still something of a surprise when Wesley returned in the second season of Star Trek: Prodigy in a more involved role. It was an even bigger surprise that fans welcomed him back with such elation, something that came as a real joy to Wesley performer, Wil Wheaton.

Star Trek's long-running partnership between James T. Kirk (William Shatner) and Spock (Leonard Nimoy) is so enduring that the franchise often seeks to replicate it. Spock provided a rational counterpoint to Kirk's rasher tendencies, making them a winning partnership that saved the galaxy countless times. More than four years have gone by since it was announced that director André Øvredal and producer Guillermo del Toro were re-teaming for a sequel to their cinematic adaptation of Alvin Schwartz’s Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark series of books. Last year, Øvredal confirmed that Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark 2 was still in the works and a script has been written, the project had just been slowed down by the pandemic, the making of his Dracula movie The Last Voyage of the Demeter, and the Hollywood strikes. We heard in December that writers/producers Dan Hageman and Kevin Hageman were fighting to get the sequel made… but now they have given a disappointing update to the folks at Collider: the sequel has stalled.

After its cancelation on Paramount+, and the ensuing fan campaign to keep the show alive, Star Trek: Prodigy finally landed at Netflix. Season 2 is set to premiere this summer on the streaming platform, and creators and executive producers Kevin and Dan Hageman have talked about their desires for Season 3.
In an interview with ScreenRant, The Hageman Brothers sat down to discuss Star Trek: Prodigy Season 2, and how the production team feels about Prodigy moving forward. "Well, it's been a while [since] we finished [Season 2]," explained Kevin Hageman. "We don't have offices anymore. We're in our homes right now. I know that everyone in our crew we had such a delight working on this show. So, I look forward to that day when we can make that call, we get a call from Alex Kurtzman, and they're like, 'Netflix has an appetite [for more Prodigy].' Whether it's an animated film, a sequel, or if it's a third season.

Fans saved Star Trek: Prodigy after Paramount+ cancellation by organizing a successful initiative. Kate Mulgrew, who plays Admiral Janeway, credits fans for their dedication in bringing back the series. #SaveStarTrekProdigy campaign even included a fundraiser to fly a banner over Netflix headquarters in LA.
Star Trek icon Kate Mulgrew credits Star Trek: Prodigy's devoted fans for saving the beloved animated series. When Paramount+ canceled Star Trek: Prodigy in June 2023 and purged all 20 season 1 episodes from its streaming service just 3 days later, irate fans organized to find Prodigy a new home. Star Trek: The Next Generation broke new ground with dramatic cliffhangers and two-part storylines, a departure from the earlier stand-alone episodes of the original series. Continuity and serialized storytelling were discouraged by the studio during the 90s, leading to the requirement of "To Be Continued" for the cliffhanger in Tng's "The Best of Both Worlds." Modern Star Trek shows have found a balance between episodic and serialized storytelling, with some elements carrying over from episode to episode while still maintaining standalone storylines.
Star Trek: The Next Generation introduced dramatic cliffhangers to the Star Trek universe, but the studio insisted that the first part end with the words "To Be Continued." The television landscape was very different when Star Trek: The Original Series began in the 1960s, with the focus almost entirely on stand-alone, episodic stories. Although this had begun to change by the 1990s, Tng still mostly held true to this model,...

Kevin Hageman's biggest wish for future episodes of Star Trek: Prodigy is to have longer episodes, allowing for more in-depth storytelling and dramatic moments. It is unlikely that Prodigy season 2 will feature longer episodes, so Kevin Hageman's wish may only be realized if the show is renewed for season 3. The decision to renew Star Trek: Prodigy for another season will depend on factors such as viewership statistics and negotiations between Netflix and Paramount.
Star Trek: Prodigy co-creator Kevin Hageman has revealed his biggest wish for future episodes of the Star Trek animated series. The story of Dal R'El (Brett Gray) and the former crew of the USS Protostar will continue when Star Trek: Prodigy season 2 premieres on Netflix later in 2024. All 20 episodes of Prodigy season 2 are prepped and ready to go, meaning that Kevin and Dan Hageman are looking toward what's next for the Star Trek animated series.

Star Trek: Prodigy season 2 will premiere on Netflix in 2024, but the exact release date is unknown. The first season of Star Trek: Prodigy was a success on Netflix, which bodes well for the second season. The creators and fans are eagerly anticipating the release of season 2, but the release strategy and episode format are uncertain due to Netflix's changing strategies.
Star Trek: Prodigy season 2 will premiere on Netflix in 2024, but when and how the episodes will be released by the streaming service is a mystery to co-showrunners Kevin and Dan Hageman and Aaron J. Waltke. Netflix premiered all 20 episodes of Star Trek: Prodigy season 1 on Christmas Day, 2023, and the beloved CGI all-ages animated series quickly charted on Netflix's Kids' Top 10 shows. This bodes well for Star Trek: Prodigy season 2, and its Netflix release is something audiences (and the creators) are eagerly anticipating.
