Writer and director Greg Jardin’s debut feature, “It’s What’s Inside,” is a body-swapping mystery. Yet Jardin had his own out-of-body experience the day the movie started an intense bidding war at Sundance in January.

Pakistani animator Usman Riaz's The Glassworker is a seminal hand-drawn animation feature, ten years in the making. Usman and his collaborators at Mano Animation Studios had to build the infrastructure from scratch to create Pakistan's first animated film, which premiered at the prestigious 2024 Annecy International Film Festival.

Directed and written by Riaz and co-writer Moya O'Shea, the story revolves around Vincent (Sacha Dhawan) and his father Tomas (Art Malik), whose peaceful life running a glasswork shop in a small town is disturbed by conflict sweeping down from the north. The father and son's relationship is tested when Vincent falls in love with Alliz (Anjli Mohindra), a talented violinist who is the daughter of the newly stationed colonel (Tony Jayaward). Exclusive: Emmy award-winning Indian producer Apoorva Bakshi (Delhi Crime) has boarded The Glassworker, Pakistan’s first ever Hayao Miyazaki-style animated feature, as an executive producer.

Bakshi, who is producing through her Awedacious Originals banner, joins a growing team of supporters of the ground-breaking 2D hand-drawn project, directed by Pakistan’s Usman Riaz and produced through his Karachi-based Mano Animation Studios.

Spanish animation producer Manuel Cristobal is also on board the project, while Paris-based sales agency Charades picked up international rights after it was presented as a work-in-progress at Annecy International Animation Film Festival last year. The film is currently in post-production and scheduled for delivery in August.
