Marco Arias, most known as Marco Buyo or simply Buyo (born August 20th, 1967), is a producer, director, editor and scriptwriter that has developed a long and successful career in the Audiovisual Production for Advertising field in his natal country, Costa Rica. He is the eldest of three siblings, the children of a working class teacher and a sales agent. Buyo had a public school education and studied Mass Media at Universidad de Costa Rica.
His career started at a small company working in some documentary features and then, as production supervisor assistant at an important advertising agency. He grew within the company and ended up managing a major Production Company within the same group, producing hundreds of campaigns for many brands during more than two decades. At this point, he decided to get more and more involved in original content and fictional materials.
He found passion editing friend's movie trailers and script writing some of his own literary stories. Thus, he wrote, produced and directed 'Julia Quebrado y otros niños rotos', an animated short films series, that won a regional prize for 'Social TV Spot' at Festival Caribe in Panama.
After that, he co-produced, scripted, directed and edited his live short film 'El Par 23', winning the 'Best Sound Prize' at Muestra de Cine Costarricense in 2007. This short film was selected to be exhibited in several international film festivals, as Biarritz, France; International Festival of Paris, France; Festival de Cine de Bogota, Colombia; Cinesul de Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, among others.
Since then, Buyo supervised the post production of Miguel Gomez's film 'Italia 90'; edited and co-produced the film 'Cielo Rojo 2'; and after resigning from his long-term job, he worked as Production Manager and Senior Editor in Ignacio Sanchez's 'Buscando a Marcos Ramírez'. In 2019 he edited a couple of episodes for the American TV Series 'Sons of Thunder'.
In 2020, he has been in pre-production stage of his second short film 'Chocolas' and fine tuning various scripts for short films in order to shoot them, as well as scripting an animated feature film and a live action feature film, both ambitious projects. With the last one, he hopes to make his 'Opera Prima' in 2022.
