Less than a week after announcing that Ridley Scott’s “All the Money in the World” will no longer serve as its closing-night film, AFI Fest has announced that Aaron Sorkin’s directorial debut “Molly’s Game” will now close the festival. The film, which stars Jessica Chastain as the real-life proprietor of a high-stakes poker game, had already been announced as part of AFI Fest but will now get pride of place as the final film to screen during the weeklong event.

Paul Thomas Anderson’s “Phantom Thread” and Steven Spielberg’s “The Post” had both been mentioned by festival-goers as potential replacements, which was probably wishful thinking; neither film is expected to screen until after Thanksgiving. “All the Money in the World” was pulled after several men accused star Kevin Spacey of sexual misconduct,...

You know how they say smoking marijuana can make anything funny? Well, whoever said that never watched Netflix’s appallingly bad new weed-com Disjointed. Because it would take a tractor-trailer full of ganja to make this mess tolerable.
You might have seen that Disjointed (debuting this Friday) stars the great Kathy Bates and airs on Netflix, and assumed that it must be innovative in some way. But don’t be fooled: This is basically a lame CBS sitcom dressed up in hip, streaming-service clothing. Kathy Bates and American Horror Story are going their separate ways.
After a three-year stint on FX’s beloved anthology series, one that included eye-catching performances in Freak Show and Roanoke – her turn as real-life socialite Madame Marie Delphine Lalaurie was a particularly memorable one – it’s been confirmed that the Oscar-winning actress won’t feature in American Horror Story: Cult whatsoever.
Word comes by way of The Hollywood Reporter (h/t Bloody Disgusting), which compiled an overview of Cult, its central themes, and all of the cast members on board. Turns out Bates isn’t listed alongside the likes of Ahs mainstays Evan Peters and Sarah Paulson, as THR notes that the actress is committed to her upcoming Netflix comedy Disjointed, which is hailing from Chuck Lorre, creative mind behind Two and a Half Men, The Big Bang Theory, and the relatively short-lived Mike & Molly.

While appearing at London’s Comic-Con this past weekend, Sherlock star Benedict Cumberbatch spilled on the detective’s love life – or lack thereof.
The Doctor Strange and soon-to-be Avengers: Infinity War actor fielded questions about his turn as the famous super-sleuth, and even touched base on the speculation linking him with the vacant (?) Bond 25 role. Indeed, Cumberbatch is a name that’s been tossed around numerous times before when it comes to James Bond, along with the likes of Tom Hiddleston, Idris Elba, and even Jason Statham, but all signs currently point to Daniel Craig returning for one last hurrah in time for 2019.
Getting back to Sherlock, though, during last weekend’s panel, Benedict Cumberbatch addressed the romantic element underpinning the hit BBC detective series, joking that there’s only one true partner for Mr. Holmes.
“Now, there’s only one choice, isn’t there? Come on,” he told the audience of fans,...

Amy Poehler and Tina Fey made history Thursday morning. The pals were nominated in the Guest Actress in a Comedy Emmy category for hosting “Saturday Night Live.”
That’s not unusual — “SNL” hosts are nominated for Emmys all the time. But here’s what’s unique: Poehler and Fey were nominated as a single, combined entity. Earlier this year, the TV Academy accepted their joint submission, and their names appeared together on nomination ballots.

That’s never happened in an acting category before because, well, a person is generally one person. (For example, Keegan-Michael Key is nominated this year for “Key & Peele” in the supporting comedy actor category, but Jordan Peele is not.

On the whole, ABC's schedule has many more changes, and more new shows, than either the NBC schedule or Fox schedule announced earlier in upfront week. Among the shifts: with Castle done for, ABC will have a new post-Dancing with the Stars drama — Conviction with Hayley Atwell (the other "sexy" legal show) — for the first time in years; Agents of Shield...

Dr. Toby Curtis, we can’t believe you didn’t see this coming.
Team Scorpion‘s resident shrink can psychoanalyze just about anyone, but when it comes to decoding the habits of his own girlfriend, he seems to have missed a tiiiiny detail these last few months: She’s already taken.
Just moments after his co-workers rescued him from certain death during Monday’s Season 2 finale, Toby finally got down on one knee and popped the question to Happy, complete with a so-cheesy-it’s-adorable song and a confetti cannon.

As far as major networks go, CBS isn’t exactly known for its devotion to innovation. From its laugh-track-heavy, half-hour comedies (The Big Bang Theory, Mike & Molly) to its brand-name procedurals (NCIS and its spinoffs, Criminal Minds, CSI: Cyber), the channel has a business model that, conventional and conservative as it may be, runs reliably as a decade-old, well-maintained Toyota Corolla.
Code Black, a “new” medical drama only distinguished from the rest of the pack by its pervasive gloom, is CBS’ answer to Grey’s Anatomy, a ham-fisted attempt to snatch up the same audiences that have propelled ER-set procedurals to the threshold of being TV clichés. It’s traditional and damnably easy to swallow, in a very CBS way.
