Shyama Dey Shaw and V.S. Thilak Naidu appointed to fill vacant roles in Senior Women's and Junior Selection Committees

New Delhi, June 19 (Ians) The Board of Control for Cricket in India (Bcci) announced on Monday that Shyama Dey Shaw and V.S. Thilak Naidu have been appointed to fill the position of one vacant selector in the Senior Women’s Selection Committee and Junior Cricket Committee, respectively.

In its statement, the Bcci said its Cricket Advisory Committee (Cac), comprising Sulakshana Naik, Ashok Malhotra, and Jatin Paranjape, screened applications for the vacant position in the respective committees after advertising for the same in January this year and have unanimously recommended Shyama and Naidu for the said positions.

Shyama, a left-handed batter and medium-pace bowler, represented India in three Tests and five One-Day Internationals. She first represented Bengal in domestic cricket from 1985 to 1997 and then Railways from 1998 to 2002.

Following her playing career, she served as a Bengal selector for two terms. She will replace fellow Bengal player Mithu Mukherjee, also a former India cricketer,...

Bcci invites applications for two vacant posts in junior men's and senior women's selection committee

New Delhi, Jan 20 (Ians) The Board of Control for Cricket in India (Bcci) has invited applications for two vacant positions — one in the mens junior selection committee and another one in the senior womens selection committee.

The vacancy has opened up in the men’s junior selection committee after its previous chairman S. Sharath was promoted to the senior men’s selection committee earlier this month. As per the criteria in the advertisement posted on board’s website, the candidate should have played a minimum of 25 first-class matches and should have retired from the game at least five years ago.

Sharath, with 139 first-class appearances and 8700 runs for Tamil Nadu in domestic cricket, had headed the junior men’s selection panel which had selected the Indian team captained by Yash Dhull, emerging as winners of U19 Men’s World Cup in West Indies in February 2022.

Apart from the usual terms in job duties and responsibilities,...

Ex-India spinner Neetu David heads new women's selection panel
Mithu Mukherjee
New Delhi, Sep 26 (Ians) Former India spinner Neetu David has been appointed chairperson of a new five-member senior women's selection panel, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (Bcci) said on Saturday. The announcement ends a nearly 10-month without a selection committee in place.

Four other former India players are part of the panel. They are opener Arati Vaidya (3 Tests and 6 ODIs), fast bowler Renu Margrate (5 Tests and 23 ODIs), wicket-keeper Venkatacher Kalpana (3 Tests and 8 ODIs), and Mithu Mukherjee (4 Tests) make up the rest of the panel.

Neetu was India's all-time highest wicket taker with 141 wickets in 97 Odi matches, before pacer Jhulan Goswami surpassed her, though the left-arm spinner remains the country's second highest wicket taker in the 50-over format. Her 8/53, against England in November 1995, is the best by an Indian in Test cricket.

"On account of seniority, Neetu David, the former left-arm spinner, will head the five-member committee," said the Bcci in a statement.
