An Innocent Girl: Jaume Collet-Serra reteams with Netflix for psychological thriller
Image
Jaume Collet-Serra directed the horror thriller The Woman in the Yard, which has pulled in just $17 million at the global box office since reaching theatres last month, but back in December he brought us the action thriller Carry On, which quickly became one of the most popular movies on the Netflix streaming service. There has been talk of a sequel – but before any Carry On follow-ups get rolling, Variety reports that Collet-Serra and Netflix will be working together on the dramatic psychological thriller An Innocent Girl.

Michael Mohan, the director of The Voyeurs and Immaculate, wrote the original screenplay for An Innocent Girl, and Marc Guggenheim, who created the DC Comics-inspired TV shows Arrow and Legends of Tomorrow, has since come in to handle revisions. The project has the following logline: When a young and ambitious woman is seduced by a high powered D.C. couple, she’s drawn...

No additional plot details or casting has been revealed at this time.

The reunion between Netflix and Collet-Serra should likely come as no surprise, as Carry-On was touted by the streamer to be the second-most watched film of all time with 172.1 million views. The thriller, set over Christmas at Lax, stars Taron Egerton and Jason Bateman.

Jaume Collet-Serra is keeping very busy lately. The filmmaker’s latest, The Woman in the Yard, is currently playing in theaters. Upcoming survival thriller Play Dead, which is...

Shawn Levy
Exclusive: A wild chase has ended with Shawn Levy’s 21 Laps and Greg Berlanti’s Berlanti Productions being chosen as the producers to shepherd a movie adaptation of Be More Chill, a Broadway-bound musical that became a viral sensation with young audiences even before its recent Off Broadway staging. Already, music from the high school-set sci-fi musical has generated an unprecedented amount of song streams.

I’m told that many producers chased this one over the past couple of days. Among the producers I’ve heard were Color Force’s Nina Jacobson, Imagine Entertainment, Michael De Luca, Marty Bowen’s Temple Hill, Scooter Braun, Jennifer Todd and Bob Zemeckis’ ImageMovers. Next step will be to enlist a studio. Both 21 Laps and Berlanti have their first look deals with Fox.

‘BlacKkKlansman’ Scribes Wachtel & Rabinowitz Set ‘Thacher Island’ Pitch At Fox 2000
John David Washington in BlacKkKlansman (2018)
Exclusive: BlacKkKlansman scribes Charlie Wachtel and David Rabinowitz have set their next film. Fox 2000 has acquired the true-crime pitch Thacher Island. The duo are set to write, and Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter are producing. The story is based on Casey Sherman’s 2013 bestseller Animal: The Bloody Rise and Fall of the Mob’s Most Feared Assassin, about the exploits of the notorious Boston mob enforcer Joe “The Animal” Barboza. Sherman previously authored The Finest Hours, which was adapted into the film directed by Craig Gillespie.

Although he was of Portuguese descent, Barboza got the idea he might be accepted into La Cosa Nostra if he killed enough men and took on the most diabolical hits. Barboza’s brutal rise came during one of the deadliest mob wars in U.S., and he took particular joy in the most gruesome crimes — to the point that the mob betrayed him and set him on the run.
