Released back in 2014 on Starz, the crime thriller Power quickly became a fan favorite thanks to its gritty realism and mix of action and drama. Produced by Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson (who also starred in the show), the series follows a legitimate businessperson who also rules a criminal enterprise, and it became so popular that it spawned an entire universe of spin-offs, including two sequels and one prequel. Now, the acclaimed series is set to expand once more with yet another prequel that will this time focus on two of the show's most beloved characters.

Per RadioTimes, Power: Origins is officially on the docket for Starz, with the prequel set to focus on Ghost and Tommy, portrayed in the original series by Omari Hardwick and Joseph Sikora. A “Power” prequel exploring the origin story of Ghost and Tommy has received an 18-episode order at Starz.

The spinoff, aptly titled “Power: Origins,” was announced to be in development in March 2024. “Power Book III: Raising Kanan” star MeKai Curtis will reprise his role of Kanan Stark in “Origins,” while casting for Ghost and Tommy (played by Omari Hardwick and Joseph Sikora in the original “Power”) is yet to be announced.

The first season of “Origins” is described by Starz as a “fun, rambunctious exploration of a new time period in the ‘Power’ franchise” that will “highlight the unbridled audacity of young men on the rise, determined to become legends in the game.”

Starz has picked up Power: Origins to series, becoming the Universe’s fifth installment and the second prequel following Power Book III: Raising Kanan. It will consist of 18 episodes, which will make up Season 1, with Raising Kanan creator Sascha Penn to serve as showrunner, writer, and executive producer.

Power: Origins follows Ghost and Tommy as ambitious young entrepreneurs on the rise, determined to make their mark on the streets of New York City. The show’s logline says the new installment is a “fun, rambunctious exploration of a new time in the Power franchise, which will highlight the unbridled audacity of young men on the rise, determined to become legends in the game.”

The newest Star Trekfeature film may have the lowest Rotten Tomatoes score of any movie in the franchise, but that’s not stopping people from streaming it. Per FlixPatrol, Star Trek: Section 31 is becoming a sleeper streaming hit. The 2025 movie starring Oscar-winner Michelle Yeoh is currently sitting in the No. 10 spot on Paramount+’s Top 10 movies as of July 9.

Star Trek: Section 31 was the first Star Trek movie to go straight to streaming and not get a theatrical release. It was also the first film overall since 2016’s Star Trek Beyond. The movie, in addition to Yeoh, also stars Omari Hardwick, Sam Richardson, Robert Kazinsky, Stacy Rohl, and Sven Ruygrok. The Paramount+ exclusive film stars Yeoh as Philippa Georgiou, who runs a nightclub called the Baraam is then tapped to join Section 31, a covert black-ops division of Starfleet.

The Power Universe continues to thrive eleven years after the original Power debuted in the summer of 2014.

It’s hard to imagine that Starz foresaw what a phenomenon the series would be, as it quickly became the cable network’s biggest show and spawned several spinoffs that are still airing to this day.

A show about a drug dealer trying to go legit (sort of) became a sensation, and at one point, it was one of the most talked-about shows on social media.

The story picks up with Tommy Egan, played by Joseph Sikora, facing bigger threats than ever before. With federal agents closing in and rival gangs challenging his control, Tommy’s mission to dominate Chicago’s drug trade becomes even more dangerous.

Don’t fix something that isn’t broken. That’s the old rule that a lot of networks need to start living by, and it’s something Starz is considering well when it comes to the growth of its business. Considering the success of the Power franchise so far, it’s not that surprising to find out that there are two new spinoffs possibly in the works.

Power started off with just one show about one family, and it’s since grown into multiple spinoffs, telling prequel and continuation storylines. This comes off the back of the split from Lionsgate and the need to grow its own IP, but Starz doesn’t want to lose a franchise that has helped it become a household name.

Exclusive: Qasim Basir’s Sundance Film Festival feature To Live and Die and Live is getting a theatrical release on May 16 in AMC multiplexes from AuthentiQ Films & CinemaStreet Pictures.

Samuel Goldwyn Films picked up digital rights to the movie, which will land in the home later this year.

Basir’s feature, and ode to Detroit, was lauded by top critics at its Sundance Film Festival debut in 2023 with 89% fresh on Rotten Tomatoes. Hollywood filmmaker Muhammad returns to his home city (Amin Joseph) to bury his stepfather and settle his accounts. Exclusive: Kai Parham (Colin in Black and White) and Michael Ealy have joined the cast of Prime Video’s The Greatest, a limited series about the life of Muhammad Ali (Jaalen Best), from executive producer Michael B. Jordan and executive producer/showrunner Ben Watkins.

The series will feature the defining moments in Ali’s life and career — both in and out of the ring — that have been well documented and moments that took place outside the spotlight. The world remembers an icon, but The Greatest is about a man, a husband, a father, a brother, and a son.

In a series regular role, Parham will play Rudy Clay, Ali’s younger brother. In a recurring role, Ealy will (finally) play Malcolm X.

Throughout his career, Ealy’s name has been mentioned repeatedly as the actor fans would most like to see portray Malcolm X.

Occasionally in Hollywood, a studio will shoot the bulk of a movie and then decide not to release it. For example, thanks to the slash-and-burn ethic of Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav, the all-but-completed "Batgirl" was canned along with titles like "Scoob! Holiday Haunt." The former had wrapped filming and was already in post-production when Zaslav axed it from Wbd's release schedule, reportedly because he deemed the movie more valuable to the company as a tax write-off. That was also the case with "Holiday Haunt," a prequel film to the 2020 animated "Scooby-Doo" feature "Scoob!"

Per Trek Movie, the film, starring Oscar-winner Michelle Yeoh, has ranked in the Nielsen Top 10 for the week of Jan. 20 to Jan. 26, 2025. The story focuses on the black-ops division of Starfleet, known as Section 31, which was first introduced in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine in the 1990s. The streaming movie premiered on Jan. 24, and for the first week, held the number eight spot with 170 million minutes streamed.
