Released back in 2014 on Starz, the crime thriller Power quickly became a fan favorite thanks to its gritty realism and mix of action and drama. Produced by Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson (who also starred in the show), the series follows a legitimate businessperson who also rules a criminal enterprise, and it became so popular that it spawned an entire universe of spin-offs, including two sequels and one prequel. Now, the acclaimed series is set to expand once more with yet another prequel that will this time focus on two of the show's most beloved characters.
Per RadioTimes, Power: Origins is officially on the docket for Starz, with the prequel set to focus on Ghost and Tommy, portrayed in the original series by Omari Hardwick and Joseph Sikora. Starz is betting big again on its flagship crime drama franchise Power, and it's understandable why. Since the first installment aired on the network on June 7, 2014, it has become one of Starz's highest-rated shows and one of television's most-watched series. The network has officially greenlit Power: Origins, an 18-episode order for the series, which will follow the early lives of Power legends James “Ghost” St. Patrick and long-time partner Tommy Egan.
Created by Courtney A. Kemp and executive produced by 50 Cent, Power launched in 2014 and ran for six seasons, ending its original run in 2020. The series followed the double life of James “Ghost” St. Patrick (Omari Hardwick), a smooth-talking nightclub owner trying to go legit while deeply entangled in New York’s brutal drug underworld. While the original show set the initial coordinates, Power Book II: Ghost followed Ghost’s son, Tariq (Michael Rainey Jr.), as he struggled with his...

The newest Star Trekfeature film may have the lowest Rotten Tomatoes score of any movie in the franchise, but that’s not stopping people from streaming it. Per FlixPatrol, Star Trek: Section 31 is becoming a sleeper streaming hit. The 2025 movie starring Oscar-winner Michelle Yeoh is currently sitting in the No. 10 spot on Paramount+’s Top 10 movies as of July 9.

The movie, in addition to Yeoh, also stars Omari Hardwick, Sam Richardson, Robert Kazinsky, Stacy Rohl, and Sven Ruygrok. The Power Universe continues to thrive eleven years after the original Power debuted in the summer of 2014.
It’s hard to imagine that Starz foresaw what a phenomenon the series would be, as it quickly became the cable network’s biggest show and spawned several spinoffs that are still airing to this day.
A show about a drug dealer trying to go legit (sort of) became a sensation, and at one point, it was one of the most talked-about shows on social media.

Fans loved to come together to rant and rave about Ghost, Tommy, Kanan, Angela, and Tasha as they made dumb moves in the name of family or something else ridiculous, and we ate it up every single time.
When the show ended after six seasons, fans were rightfully upset, but jumping right into Power Book II: Ghost helped ease some of the pain, as Tariq St.

Starring Lulu Wilson, Omari Hardwick, Trae Romano, Wrenn Schmidt, Paul Schneider, and Garrett van der Leun. And the most exciting part - the movie features creature designs by the legendary Jim Henson Company's Creature Shop. To...

What if E.T. was less cute and cuddly, and instead resembled a razor-jawed H.R. Giger creature from Alien? And what if that alien's appetites tended more towards living flesh than delicious Reese's Pieces? Those questions are asked and answered in the new Collider-exclusive trailer for Xeno, a new science fiction adventure film starring Lulu Wilson. It's a heartfelt story of a girl and her gruesome alien pal like no other. Xeno will hit theaters on September 19.

But that affinity is going to be put to the test when she meets Xeno, a snarling quadropedal alien beast with a taste for livestock. Don’t fix something that isn’t broken. That’s the old rule that a lot of networks need to start living by, and it’s something Starz is considering well when it comes to the growth of its business. Considering the success of the Power franchise so far, it’s not that surprising to find out that there are two new spinoffs possibly in the works.
Power started off with just one show about one family, and it’s since grown into multiple spinoffs, telling prequel and continuation storylines. This comes off the back of the split from Lionsgate and the need to grow its own IP, but Starz doesn’t want to lose a franchise that has helped it become a household name.

Despite taking heavy fire from the critics when it was released earlier this year, Star Trek: Section 31 has made a surprise return to the streaming charts. Currently the Star Trek project with the lowest score on Rotten Tomatoes, the streaming-original film has warped back into the top ten on Paramount+'s streaming rankings. Section 31 had a troubled production history: originally slated to be a TV series, it ventured into unknown space when star Michelle Yeoh, who was to reprise her character from Star Trek: Discovery, won her first-ever Best Actress Oscar for Everything Everywhere All at Once. With Yeoh now a hot Hollywood commodity, the series was restructured into a streaming-original movie, the first ever for the franchise.

The team surrounding the Blue Bloods offshoot — Boston Blue — continues to grow by leaps and bounds. According to Deadline, the production has tapped Golden Globe, Emmy, and NAACP Award recipient, Anthony Hemingway, to serve as the director and executive producer behind the show’s premiere episode. With an incredibly impressive lineup of credits attached to his name, Hemingway has been tied to such titles as The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story, The Wire, and Power. [This story contains major spoilers from the season four finale of Power Book III: Raising Kanan.]
It’s been an intense ride for Power Book III: Raising Kanan, Starz’s other spinoff series from its massive network redefining Power franchise launched in 2021. Unlike Power Book II: Ghost which was a continuation in the aftermath of Ghost’s death and the departure of Omari Hardwick, prequel Raising Kanan was charged with exploring a younger Kanan, the character Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson played in the flagship of the Power franchise that he and co-creator Courtney Kemp launched in 2014.
In the series spearheaded by showrunner Sascha Penn is a backstory that sought to explain how Kanan became the monster fans saw in the original. That meant bringing in Mekai Curtis as 15-year-old Kanan to play opposite Tony winner Patina Miller as his ambitious, drug-dealing mother, Raquel “Raq” Thomas, who led the family drug business with her older brother, Marvin (London Miller) and youngest brother...

Occasionally in Hollywood, a studio will shoot the bulk of a movie and then decide not to release it. For example, thanks to the slash-and-burn ethic of Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav, the all-but-completed "Batgirl" was canned along with titles like "Scoob! Holiday Haunt." The former had wrapped filming and was already in post-production when Zaslav axed it from Wbd's release schedule, reportedly because he deemed the movie more valuable to the company as a tax write-off. That was also the case with "Holiday Haunt," a prequel film to the 2020 animated "Scooby-Doo" feature "Scoob!"
These are, of course, just a pair of examples. There are also many, many other unrealized or unreleased projects from cinema history. I personally wish I could've seen the feature-length version of "Swirlee," a film noir about a cop with an ice cream cone for a head. (It's very real.)

Most recently, Paramount+ released Michelle Yeoh's risk-taking Star Trek: Section 31 on January 24. Originally planned...
