The Marvel Cinematic Universe begins a new chapter this week with a reboot of one of the company’s most beloved properties, The Fantastic Four.
Starring Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Fantastic Four: First Steps was directed by Matt Shakman (Wandavision) and comes from a screenplay by Josh Friedman, Eric Pearson, Jeff Kaplan, and Ian Springer.
First Steps marks the fourth attempt to translate the original comic book characters of Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic, Sue Storm/Invisible Woman, Johnny Storm/Human Torch, and Ben Grimm/The Thing to the silver screen. This time, the action will take place in an alternate history/parallel universe set in the ’60s.
Deadline’s Damon Wise described the film as a “satisfying and stylish Marvel adventure.”

The Young and the Restless dominated the 2025 Daytime Emmy nominations with 19 nods. Many of the show’s top stars including Peter Bergman, Sharon Case, and Eileen Davidson earned acting nods. However, many notable names were missing from this year’s list.
Melody Thomas Scott
The biggest name missing from this year’s nominees is Melody Thomas Scott. The actress put on her best work as Nikki struggled with her sobriety and being stalked by Jordan (Colleen Zenk). After being snubbed last year, many fans thought she’d be a shoo-in to receive a Lead Actress nomination. But just like last year, Scott wasn’t shown any Emmy love.
Colleen Zenk
Zenk has been phenomenal as the menacing Jordan on Y&R. Whether she was tormenting Nikki, gaslighting Claire (Hayley Erin), or teaming with Ian (Ray Wise), Zenk was a delight to watch. Zenk was snubbed for a Guest Performer Emmy nomination in last year.

Welcome to Blue Ridge, a small town that may look like a sleepy little burg, but beneath the surface, it’s fueled by enough strife, squabbles, and suppressed hostilities to power a big city for days. Based on the 2020 crime thriller Blue Ridge, the series follows Johnathon Schaech as Sheriff Justin Wise, whose quiet mountain town erupts into chaos after the murder of an unpopular local land developer. As Wise and his deputies dig into each case, they turn the town upside down, uncovering sordid secrets and long-standing family feuds at the heart of deeply buried hostilities. The show has garnered significant attention on Prime Video, attracting a new fanbase drawn to its unique blend of crime drama with a cowboy twist. Showrunner Gary Wheeler took notice and expressed his gratitude, taking a moment to thank the show’s growing audience. “I want to take a moment to thank everyone for watching on Amazon Prime,...

The Young and the Restless cast put on amazing performances last year. From two villains running amok in Genoa City to a character’s struggle with their sobriety, these actors knocked it out of the park. With the 2025 Daytime Emmy nominations being announced on July 10th, these Y&r stars are deserving of a nod.
Sharon Case
Sharon Case was front and center again as her character Sharon spiraled out of control. Hallucinations of Cameron (Linden Ashby) caused Sharon to commit the heinous act of killing Heather (Vail Bloom). Case gave a riveting performance as Sharon grappled with her guilt and reality of the situation. There wasn’t a dry eye when Sharon broke down at Cassie’s (Camryn Grimes) grave after confessing to her crime. Case hasn’t received much love from the Emmys in the past, but this performance is deserving of a nomination.

To declare a subject a “genius” in a title is a bold opening move. Jane Austen: Rise of a Genius arrives timed for the 250th anniversary of its subject’s birth, positioning itself not just as a biography but as a definitive cultural statement.
This three-part series aims to dismantle the stuffy, tea-and-doilies image of Austen, reassembling her for a contemporary audience as a sharp-witted social critic and a revolutionary force in literature. The program’s ambition is clear: to move beyond the familiar romance plots and investigate the mechanics of a mind that permanently altered the novel form.
It sets out on a comprehensive exploration of her life, her meticulously crafted work, and her creative process. The project undertakes the significant task of explaining why Austen’s contributions from two centuries ago continue to feel immediate and vital in the modern world.

It may have flown under the radar when it first premiered, but Blue Ridge is finally getting the attention it deserves — and the modern Western crime procedural is now sitting comfortably in the Top 5 on Prime Video's streaming charts. Think Bosch meets Yellowstone, with a little Appalachian grit thrown in for good measure. Set in the rugged mountains of North Carolina, Blue Ridge follows Sheriff Justin Wise, a former Green Beret turned small-town lawman, who’s trying to keep the peace in a community where old grudges and new crimes collide.
Played by Johnathon Schaech, Sheriff Wise isn’t your average procedural lead — he’s tough, principled, and deeply rooted in the place he’s sworn to protect. The series originally spun out of the 2020 film Blue Ridge, which focused on a murder investigation that unearthed personal tensions between Wise and his ex-wife Ellie.

Here’s What Netizens Are Saying About Vishnu Manchu’s Kannappa! (Photo Credit – Instagram)
Kannappa, starring Vishnu Manchu, is finally out, and fans have taken to X (formerly Twitter) to share their excitement. This period film, filled with mythology, action, great emotional depths, and cameo appearances from Prabhas and Akshay Kumar, seems to have aced the second half, especially. Some viewers think the first half drags, but most will finally agree that it’s the second half and the climax that deliver the punch.

One fan shared their experience after watching the movie and couldn’t stop praising Prabhas’ grand entry and wrote, “Just now done with my show. Beans Morocco, the comic character actor who showed up in everything from Blazing Saddles, Used Cars and Eating Raoul to episodes of Mork & Mindy, The Bob Newhart Show and Growing Pains, has died. He was 90.
Morocco died May 29 in Bakersfield, California, his friend Ryan Wise told The Hollywood Reporter. For his final film, he starred as an ex-con on his own after decades in the Federal Witness Protection Program in Killing Cookie (2024), a comedy that Wise wrote and directed.
“He was always performing — always entertaining — and he made everyone feel good,” Wise said.
Going by birth name Dan Barrows until he adopted his quirky stage name in the late 1980s, the pint-sized actor also appeared in such other noteworthy films as Clint Eastwood’s Any Which Way You Can (1980), Howard Storm’s Once Bitten (1985), Wes Craven’s New Nightmare (1994) and Rob Reiner’s The American President (1995).

The trailer for Victor Kossakovsky’s stunning new documentary Architecton has racked up 160,000 views in a day – very impressive for a nonfiction film.
The feature, built of stone and concrete, examines the materials of architecture and the permanence or impermanence of buildings and the societies for which they were constructed. A24 will release Architecton on August 1 in over a hundred theaters. Watch the trailer above.
The Berlin Film Festival, where Architecton premiered in 2024, wrote of the film, “Centering on a landscape project by the Italian architect Michele De Lucchi, Kossakovsky uses the circle to reflect on the rise and fall of civilizations, capturing breathtaking imagery from the temple ruins of Baalbek in Lebanon, dating back to Ad 60, to the recent destruction of cities in Turkey following a 7.8 magnitude earthquake in early 2023. The David Lynch and Mark Frost series Twin Peaks made its premiere on ABC in 1990 and ran for two seasons before being cancelled. It was followed by the feature film Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me, and a couple decades later the series was revived for a third season on Showtime, called Twin Peaks: The Return. Now, to celebrate the 35th anniversary of the show’s premiere, some Twin Peaks cast members will be going on a national tour to meet with fans and discuss the series with them!
The Hollywood Reporter broke the news that Ray Wise (who played Leland Palmer), Harry Goaz (Deputy Andy Brennan), and Kimmy Robertson (Lucy Moran) are joining Twin Peaks: The Return executive producer Sabrina S. Jennifer Lawrence and Robert Pattinson took to the Cannes red carpet this evening for the world premiere of new film Die My Love, directed by Lynne Ramsay (You Were Never Really Here).
The Competition movie is based on the 2017 novel by Ariana Harwicz and also stars Lakeith Stanfield, Sissy Spacek and Nick Nolte.
Set in rural America, the film is a portrait of a married woman’s mental disintegration as post-natal depression consumes and obliterates her. Pattinson plays her husband, and Stanfield her lover.
In Deadline’s review, Damon Wise was impressed by Ramsay’s “mesmerizing film,” describing it as a “brutal but beautiful story.” As for many critics, Lawrence proved the star of the show. “America knows very well how good Jennifer Lawrence can be,” Wise wrote, “and this could well mean a fifth Oscar nomination if it lands in savvy hands.” But Ramsay also comes in for particular...

Robert Wise’s adaptation of The Andromeda Strain retains much of the Michael Crichton novel’s emphasis on the minutiae of efforts to contain a deadly extraterrestrial microorganism while blending in elements of a procedural thriller and a disaster film. As lensed by Richard H. Kline, the Panavision imagery conjures a sense of impending doom, as almost every resident in a small New Mexico town is found dead after a U.S. military satellite crashes nearby, but it’s Boris Leven’s art direction, especially within the laboratory where a group of scientists gather following news of the disaster, that gives the film its distinctively clinical look and feel.
Nelson Gidding’s script methodically moves toward a climax in which the disarming of a bomb inside the lab could prevent humanity’s extinction. Days prior, the U.S. military activates a covert operation involving a team of scientists, foremost among them Dr.

Writer and director Aimee Kuge's tasty feature debut is a banger … see what I did there? Cannibal Mukbang sells what's on the tin, a cannibal film about a starving social media influencer. Kuge translates the art of "mukbangs"—in Korean, basically "eating broadcast"—into a story about vengeance, tender morsels, and the ultimate overindulgence. It's a relationship piece first and a hunter-prey flick second, and storytelling choices might be tough to stomach, but it's hinged on a compelling question about bottomless behaviors. One that Kuge lets you ponder instead of telling you the answer.
April Consalo stars as Ash, a viral content creator who posts mukbang videos where she devours plates of food for her viewership. Timid Mark (Nate Wise) is one such mukbang appreciator, a lonely and soft-spoken man with intimacy issues who'd rather watch from afar. When Ash hits Mark with her car one night and brings him home,...

Season 3, episode 4 of The Wheel of Time focuses solely on the Aiel Waste group. Specifically Rand and Moiraine. For non-book readers (such as myself), the episode feels like a bit of an overdose of information because it basically gives us a history of Rand and Aiel in general. It’s a complicated episode that is hard to understand without prior knowledge of the lore. Or at least that’s how I felt. But, here we are trying to comprehend everything that went down in this episode. This episode brings us to Rhuidean, an Aiel city surrounded by wasteland. The Wise One’s prophecy about the Car’a’carn is also known as the Prophecy of Rhuidean. It seems this is almost an abandoned city, but only certain Aiel can go there, including those who get permission from the Wise Ones. In Rhuidean, there are many Ter’angreal (objects of the...

The Young and the Restless spoilers document that Sharon Newman (Sharon Case) was rescued by Nick Newman (Joshua Morrow) and others once again.
But she and Phyllis Summers (Michelle Stafford) accomplished what they previously would have seen impossible, allowing them to survive until the rescue squad arrived.
What turned out to be an intriguing storyline included some moments of doubt. Sharon, Phyllis, and those searching for them couldn’t determine the abductor’s motivation. Audience members understood the feeling, as this tale launched oddly and was jarring until the end.
It’s reasonable to critique all points in a tale as it’s being told, meaning that it’s fair to question why this specific storyline happened. Yet, the reveal of Alan Laurent (Christopher Cousins), or if this person is the assumed dead identical twin, Martin, was perfect.

Shirley Jackson's "The Haunting of Hill House" draws us into its gothic, macabre world even before we set our sights on the titular mansion. When we finally see the scary residence, Jackson's haunting prose etches the picture of a house that observes and reacts to human presence, being every bit sentient as its inhabitants. The true horror, however, lies in the unspoken fears evoked by such a horrible, surreal place. When the mansion brings out the worst anxieties in our protagonist, Eleanor Vance, it's hard not to slip into her shoes and absorb some of her fears.
As the key to capturing the heart of Jackson's chilling tale is to explore these subtleties, few adaptations have managed to reinvent the book's premise on its own terms. The most effective and notable effort (so far) is Mike Flanagan's "The Haunting of Hill House," which uses Jackson's haunted house...

The Young and the Restless spoilers document Sharon Newman (Sharon Case) is trying to use her recent abduction experience. Phyllis Summers (Michelle Stafford) believes that taunting their abductor is best.
An unusual storyline could have been reconsidered or ended quickly if Ian Ward (Ray Wise) was revealed from the jump as the villain this time around. But the messages a distorted voice offers, and the setting where these longtime rivals are being held are the only clues as to what’s happening.
Who would be motivated to capture Sharon and Phyllis and keep them together?
Along with that question, viewers must ask themselves who would know each person’s history and details about the rivalry they’ve created over the years.
Ian Ward Is The Abductor Once Again
Ian was assumed dead. He was wheeled out on a stretch by EMTs and received parting shots from the principal players that he had wronged.

DeWanda Wise might be taking flight again, but this time it could be in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as the beloved X-Men character Storm. The actress portrayed pilot Kayla Watts in 2022’s Jurassic World Dominion, but if the rumor mill is any indication, the MCU might have its sights set on casting Wise as the fan-favorite Mutant Ororo Munroe.
Please remember that until Marvel Studios confirms the casting report posted to X, formerly Twitter, by scooper MyTimeToShineHello, the news of Wise possibly taking up Storm’s electrifying mantle is strictly a rumor. Now, the social media post succinctly reads as follows:
DeWanda Wise is now being considered for the role of Storm in the X-Men reboot.
Halle Berry had the honor of playing Storm in the original X-Men films which started their successful run in the year 2000. Berry then reprised the role for director Bryan Singer’s immensely popular...

It's quickly become apparent that we're going to spend the next few years dealing with a lot of X-Men casting rumours. However, if Avengers: Secret Wars ends with a soft reboot of the MCU (the prevailing theory among fans), then we may meet the team for the first time in 2027.
We also wouldn't discount the idea of Marvel Studios' X-Men reboot being released two years from now to kick off the "Mutant Saga" in style. That would certainly go some way in explaining all this recent chatter about the team, anyway.
Today, scooper @MyTimeToShineH brings word that Jurassic World Dominion star DeWanda Wise is "being considered for the role of Storm in the X-Men reboot." There's been speculation about her starring in the movie for a while, though it's an interesting possibility seeing as Wise is 40.
A few days ago, there were rumblings that Denzel Washington's mysterious Black Panther 3 role could be Magneto.

When Robert Wise's "Star Trek: The Motion Picture" beamed into theaters on December 7, 1979, it was a gift to the fanbase that had grown up around "The Original Series" after NBC canceled it in 1969, and a cordial invitation to everyone else to join the voyages of the Starship Enterprise. When the $44 million film grossed a disappointing $83 million in the United States, the future of "Star Trek" was once again uncertain.
The issue with Wise's film is that it was too reverent in tone and, for newcomers, staid in comparison to the lightsabers-and-blasters derring-do of "Star Wars." Perhaps most damaging of all, it didn't naturally lead to a sequel. Where was "Star Trek" to boldly go from this tepidly received epic (which has found its vociferous defenders over the years)?
The unexpected answer was to blend Gene Roddenberry's socially conscious sci-fi saga with naval warfare yarns like Patrick O'Brian...

A love letter to the the people and places of the New York borough for which it’s named, “Love, Brooklyn” is also a showcase for the talents of its three attractive lead actors. In this entry at Sundance’s US dramatic competition, Andre Holland, Nicole Beharie and DeWanda Wise play upwardly mobile creative New Yorkers in a complicated love triangle. First-time filmmakers, director Rachael Abigail Holder and screenwriter Paul Zimmerman weave a low-key romantic odyssey that simmers with intimate heat while acting as a loving character study of the beloved, always evolving neighborhood.

Ever since the rumor that Marvel Studios was interested in bringing Wicked star Cynthia Erivo on board the upcoming X-Men reboot as Storm did the rounds, fans have been debating about who they think the best choice to play the weather-manipulating mutant hero in the MCU would be.
Jodi Turner-Smith and DeWanda Wise (Jurassic World: Dominion) seem to have emerged as two very popular picks, with the latter possibly gaining the edge thanks to a resurgence of fan-art being shared on social media over the past few days.
Some X accounts are claiming that Wise is actually up for the role, but we've heard there's no truth to this - at least, not yet.

Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenoweth's surprise appearances in Wicked were a delight, especially since their roles were the perfect way to honor their legacies. These stars originated the roles of Elphaba and Galinda on Broadway, so it was only fitting that they made an appearance in the 2024 movie adaptation. Of course, director Jon M. Chu could have approached this in any number of ways. Menzel and Chenoweth could simply have appeared in the background of a scene or served as educators at Shiz. However, such options wouldn't have done their legacies with Wicked justice.
The Wicked musical debuted on Broadway in 2003 and is now the longest-running show on this iconic New York street. In the last two decades, Elphaba and Galinda's story has made it all around the world, with dozens of talented performers bringing their own twist to the beloved roles. The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim, released in theaters on December 13, 2024, marks the first animated film in the mega-popular Middle-earth franchise since 1977. The origin story focuses on Hera (Gaia Wise), the daughter of King Helm Hammerhand of Rohan (Brian Cox), who attempts to protect and preserve her father's kingdom from the intrusive Dunlendings.
Despite earning mediocre reviews from critics, The War of the Rohirrim has been lauded for doing one thing that the great Peter Jackson failed to do with The Hobbit: deliver a standalone story that works independently of the main Lord of the Rings canon. While both entries take inspirational cues from J.R.R. Tolkien's celebrated text, the animated prequel plays as a self-contained story that does not require the full historical mythology to appreciate.

Pixar's Inside Out spinoff show, Dream Productions, had a turbulent development that required a lot of creativity from its creators.
The series, which is an "interquel" that sits in the time between Inside Out and Inside Out 2 in the series' chronology, follows the director of Riley's dreams, Paula Persimmon (played by Paula Pell), as she experiences the ups and downs of dream production. However, the production of Dream Productions wasn't exactly a dream itself. Art imitates life, and the real production had its ups and downs too. In a panel at the Fredrikstad Animation Festival, Bill Wise--the show's VFX supervisor whose 30-year career at Pixar ended with this project--talked openly about the creation of Dream Productions, as documented by Cartoon Brew.

For Wise, who voices Hera, the warrior daughter of Cox's Helm Hammerhand, a deep personal connection draws her to the character’s resilience. In an interview with Anime News Network, when asked where she would fit in the Lord of the Rings world, Wise explained, "I like to think I’d be like Hera. I try to be as much like her as possible." Hera’s determination to protect her homeland and take space as a woman in a man's world was an important point to Wise, who also commented, "I think any sort of female-led stories are important. The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim writers Phoebe Gittins and Arty Papageorgiou, alongside Héra star Gaia Wise, explain how the movie's new characters drew inspiration from Sam and Éowyn. The upcoming War of the Rohirrim movie tells the story of Helm Hammerhand (Brian Cox) and his defense of Rohan against the Dunlendings, later becoming the namesake to the kingdom's Helm's Deep stronghold. The movie also introduces original characters to J.R.R. Tolkien's Middle-earth, including Wise's Héra, Olwyn (Lorraine Ashbourne), and Lief (Bilal Hasna) as some of the more prominent newcomers.
Speaking with Screen Rant, Gittins and Papageorgiou explained the inspiration behind The War of the Rohirrim's original characters, discussing how some elements were pulled from established heroes. This includes much of Héra's inspiration coming from Éowyn, while Lief was inspired by Samwise Gamgee. The writers touch on other original characters like Olwyn and Old Pennicruik...

Plot: Set 183 years before the events chronicled in the original trilogy of films, The War of the Rohirrim tells the fate of the House of Helm Hammerhand, the legendary King of Rohan. When a scorned warrior named Wulf vows revenge for his fallen father, he ignites a war for the ages. The War of the Rohirrim tells of how an unforgiving war transformed an ancient stronghold of the Hornsburg into Helm’s Deep.
Review: Few dark fantasy properties are as timeless, influential, and well-guarded as J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings. Tolkien’s world of swords, sorcery, hobbits, and giant eagles that could have flown Frodo to Mount Doom in no time is sacred to many. So, when I heard the legendary Japanese director Kenji Kamiyama, the visionary behind 2017’s Napping Princess and the architect of Eden of the East, would direct an untold chapter of Lotr history,...

Someone needs to kick some sense into Warner Bros. when it comes to promoting their films, especially after the lackluster turnout for The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim. The animated film from Peter Jackson’s acclaimed Middle-earth saga dropped a promising trailer a few months ago. The film has hit select overseas markets, including Spain, Mexico, and Brazil, but the reception has been underwhelming.

Fans are not happy about the studio’s attitude toward the project after reports suggest that the film only made $2 million on its debut. The events of the film are set 183 years before the original film trilogy and it explores the story of the King of Rohan, Helm Hammerhand, and his daughter Héra.

(Welcome to Tales from the Box Office, our column that examines box office miracles, disasters, and everything in between, as well as what we can learn from them.)
"It was not a good working situation." That's how associate producer Jon Povill described the situation behind-the-scenes while working on "Star Trek: The Motion Picture" in the book "The Fifty-Year Mission: The First 25 Years." Director Robert Wise was told he had control over the film. Creator Gene Roddenberry was also told he had control. What Paramount had was a long-awaited movie adaptation of a wildly popular TV show. On paper, that was a good thing. In practice, it was messy in every way.
The end result was both a box office success story and a financial blunder that only served to disappoint fans. It also allowed "Star Trek" to thrive as a franchise in all new ways for years to come, including...
