After NBC got wind of Shane Gillis’ history of homophobic and racist remarks on podcasts, the comedian knew the writing was on the wall. He was out at Saturday Night Live before he’d even set foot at 30 Rock. He understood NBC’s decision, but in 2020, he told a radio station in New Haven, Connecticut, that he never intended to apologize for jokes he’d made in the past.
The night he was fired was when things really got interesting, Gillis said on the Chaz & Aj in the Morning show. “I was literally on the phone from September 12th, which is when this happened, for three weeks,” he said. “It was crazy, just nonstop on the phone with somebody — agent, management, NBC, somebody.”
Gillis’ message to his management team: “No apologies.”
Why was the comic digging in his heels? “First off,” he said, “there’s zero apology that anybody on Twitter will ever accept.

When Ronny Chieng was writing the material for his new Netflix special “Love to Hate It” back in 2023, he included a few now prescient jokes about the Maga movement. But back then, the idea that Donald Trump would somehow return to the White House wasn’t on anyone’s minds — so much so that he was advised to leave the jokes out.
“And at that point, it felt irrelevant,” Chieng says. “In fact, I got a note back from a comic whom I respect, and they were like, ‘when you went into the Maga stuff, I just felt like, it’s totally irrelevant.’ He wasn’t being mean. He was just giving some honest feedback. And I was like, ‘Yeah, I can see why you would say that.’ But I really believed it was something I wanted to say. So I left it in, and it kept developing. And then it became its own thing.

Earlier this year, Paramount and Miramax announced that they are reviving the Scary Movie horror parody series to bring a Scary Movie 6 to theatres sometime in 2025, with the Wayans Brothers back in creative control – and that announcement has inspired us to go back and revisit the earlier entries in the franchise. Now we’re up to the 2006 sequel Scary Movie 4, and you can hear all about it in the video embedded above.
Directed by David Zucker from a screenplay by Craig Mazin, Jim Abrahams, and Pat Proft, Scary Movie 4 has the following synopsis: Dim-witted Cindy Campbell and her sex-crazed friend, Brenda, team up with cute-but-clueless Tom Ryan to save the world from a hostile alien invasion, with hints of War of the Worlds, Saw II, Million Dollar Baby and The Village.
The cast includes Anna Faris, Regina Hall, Craig Bierko, Leslie Nielsen, Bill Pullman, Anthony Anderson, Kevin Hart,...

Chris Pratt is in a hilarious new Super Bowl campaign!
The 44-year-old Jurassic World actor stars as “Mr. P” in the Pringles commercial, the mascot who has appeared on the Pringles can.
As for the mustache featured in the ad, he told Variety: “I grew it out and shaved down the sides, and it curled up.”
He said his wife, Katharine Schwarzenegger, told him the mustache might be good: “That’s actually a good look for a character. Have you ever played a character with that type of mustache?” he says she asked him. “I kept it. I must have posted something on social media,” he adds.
“There’s a lot going on” in the commercial, he says. “We really love this sort of post-truth theme about living in a world where suddenly someone says, ‘Ok, you are Mr. P,’ and that becomes a thing. We did a lot of ad-libs,...

Chris Pratt reveals his new mustache in a Pringles commercial for the upcoming Super Bowl. Pringles likely paid a hefty sum for their Super Bowl commercial spot, with prices for a 30-second ad reaching up to $7 million. Chris Pratt has several projects in the pipeline, including the animated movie Garfield, Netflix's The Electric State, and the prequel series The Terminal List: Dark Wolf.
Guardians of the Galaxy and Jurassic World star Chris Pratt dons a glorious mustache and becomes Mr. P in the new Pringles Super Bowl ad. Essentially telling the tale of the ad itself, the footage finds Pratt shopping at his local convenience store, where he decides to indulge in a tube of Pringles. Told by the clerk that, with his new ‘stache, he resembles the Pringles mascot, Pratt soon finds himself journeying across the Great Plains as Mr. P.
You can check out the new Pringles ad below.

You might say Chris Pratt has been preparing for his next role for months.
On Sunday, Pratt debuts as “Mr. P,” the ubiquitous and mustachioed mascot who has long appeared on behalf of Pringles, the potato-chips-in-a-can that are made by Kellanova. The key? A thick mustache the actor says he grew during the recent Hollywood work stoppage that got him noticed by the executives behind Pringles.
“I grew it out and shaved down the sides, and it curled up,” Pratt tells Variety in an interview. His spouse, Katharine Schwarzenegger, told him the mustache just might have legs. “That’s actually a good look for a character. Have you ever played a character with that type of mustache?” he says she asked him. “I kept it. I must have posted something on social media,” he says, which is how a broader set of observers noticed the look. Pringles soon came calling.

Patrice O'Neal's character Lonny in The Office provided hilarious and memorable moments despite having few scenes. O'Neal's departure from the show was due to his indifference towards Hollywood and a desire to be in New York. The Office didn't address Lonny's absence after O'Neal's death, providing no proper send-off for the character.
In The Office, Patrice O'Neal plays a side character who does not have many scenes but still provides hilarious moments the few times he appears. O'Neal was a New York City comic and actor, well known for his stand-up act and appearances on the Opie and Anthony radio show. His comedy was conversational, pointed, and outrageous. Despite the sometimes caustic and antagonistic bent of O'Neal's stand-up, the purpose of his act was always to make the audience laugh more than anything else.
O'Neal appears in the cast of The Office in three episodes over the course of the first three seasons.

If Betty White has taught us anything, it's that being old doesn't mean you're not hilarious. It also doesn't mean you're not really, really vulgar when the battlefield of comedy needs you to drop some serious F-bombs.
By entertainment standards, the roast -- a concept originated by the Friar's Club fraternity way back in 1907 -- is an absolute dinosaur. But it's like a T. rex that assaults you with politically incorrect character assassination and ridiculous celebrity humiliation instead of killer jaws and tiny arms -- old as it is, the roast walks the razor's edge of "too funny" and "too far." Here are five times the comics got that balance exactly right.
1. Charlie Sheen (2011)

After a recent video surfaced comparing Amy Schumer's material to other comedians' work, Schumer went on Jim Norton's SiriusXM Radio show today to deny any allegations of joke theft. "I wanted to come and talk to you about [these accusations] and clear my name, because I would never ever do that and I never have," the comedian said, adding that she is "literally going to take a polygraph test and put it on my show this season."The video collects allegations — some of which surfaced this weekend, others older — that Schumer copied material from Patrice O'Neal, Tammy Pescatelli, Kathleen Madigan, and Wendy Liebman. Talking to Norton, Schumer said that she had not seen any of their jokes before she performed her own and that any similarities were a result of parallel thinking, not plagiarism. She previously addressed similarities between O'Neal's punchline and a line from her stand-up special on Twitter last fall.

Curiously squandering an immensely talented cast, Todd Rohal's "Nature Calls," written when the writer-director lived in Austin, had more humor and humanity and life in its 10-minute post-screening talk here at SXSW than it showed in its previous 98-minute running time. Starring Patton Oswalt and Johnny Knoxville as brothers -- in a clear refutation of all we know about genetics -- "Nature Calls" pits Oswalt's dedicated scoutmaster, eager to take his scoutmaster father on one last camping trip, against Knoxville's black sheep son. You can imagine this premise leading to all kinds of hilarity. I encourage you to do so, as Rohal clearly did not. When his troop bails on a camping trip, Oswalt crashes a sleepover hosting Knoxville's adopted son Dwande (Thiecoura Cissoko) and his wayward troop members, abducting them, along with his father, for the originally-planned trip to the woods. Knoxville, Rob Riggle and the late Patrice O'Neal give.

In this exclusive clip from the upcoming feature film "Nature Calls," Patton Oswalt is a scoutmaster who cares. Watch him get in a shouting match with Johnny Knoxville in full-on Mean Dad mode, while Rob Riggle offers some very convincing shouted interjections.
Sadly, the film also marks the last screen appearance of the late, great Patrice O'Neal (not seen in this clip).
"Nature Calls" was well received at the South By Southwest Film Festival when it played there in March. It hits theaters on Nov. 9 and is currently available on iTunes.

Almost a year after Patrice O'Neal died - a week before his birthday, on November 29th, 2011 - Magnet Releasing will open the comedy Nature Calls in theaters and VOD on November 9; and with that news comes a brand-new trailer today. The raucous comedy, which as I note in the title, is/was/will be Patrice O'Neal's last film, stars Patton Oswalt, Johnny Knoxville, Rob Riggle, and Patrice O'Neal. Oswalt stars as Scoutmaster Randy Stevens, whose dwindling, apathetic troop ditches a scout meeting in favor of a TV-themed slumber party hosted by Randy's brother Kirk (Knoxville), his polar opposite and arch nemesis. Magnet Releasing has unveiled a new red-band trailer for the crazy looking raunchy scouting comedy Nature Calls, which stars Patton Oswalt, Johnny Knoxville, Rob Riggle, Patrice O'Neal, Maura Tierney and Darrell Hammond. The story follows polar-opposite brothers Randy and Kirk who never saw eye-to-eye, "but their rivalry is taken to a new level when Randy hijacks Kirk's son's sleepover, taking the boys on a Scout Trip to remember." Obviously there's going to be all kinds of shenanigans.
I like Oswalt and Knoxville, but I'm not really that impressed by what I saw in the trailer. The movie will be released on November 9th and on VOD October 4th. Does the movie look funny to you?

There are red band trailers, and then there's the trailer for Todd Rohal's latest, "Nature Calls." Seeing as the R-rated comedy is about a group of—let's just say slightly immature—men who take a group of energetic (and yes, by energetic we do mean wild and hormonal) boy scouts on a camping trip, it's not all that surprising that the trailer is more than a little crass.
With Patton Oswalt, Johnny Knoxville, Rob Riggle and Patrice O'Neal in the cast line-up, this might be the dirtiest comedy of the year. While it runs just a hair over two-and-a-half minutes, we still lost count of the number of expletives and off-color references.
That said, we're pretty sure we saw Johnny Knoxville being lit on fire and nailed to a cross somewhere in there, and a random chick riding a motorcycle sans clothing. Just sayin'.
Now, if anyone can pull of a flick like this,...

"Children don't live in the woods - they die!" Magnet Releasing recently debuted a rather unnecessarily red band trailer for wacky indie comedy Nature Calls, directed by Todd Rohal and starring Patton Oswalt, Rob Riggle, Johnny Knoxville, Patrice O'Neal, Maura Tierney and Darrell Hammond. In the vein of camp comedies like Meatbealls, the film is about two brothers, Randy (Oswalt) and Kirk (Knoxville), who decide to hijack a Boy Scout trip that takes a turn for the worst. There's all kinds of weird shenanigans in this and I'm really not sure what to make of it. But if making fun of Boy Scouts is your thing, then have fun. Here's the first red band trailer for Todd Rohal's Nature Calls, originally from Yahoo: Polar-opposite brothers Randy (Oswalt) and Kirk (Knoxville) never saw eye-to-eye, but their rivalry goes to a new level when Randy hijacks Kirk's son's sleepover, taking the...

This new red-band trailer for Nature Calls starring Patton Oswalt, Johnny Knoxville, Rob Riggle, Patrice O'Neal, and Marua Tierney pulls the curtains back on something that will either be insanely stupid or outrageously entertaining. I can't decide which. The trailer starts out looking like another paint-by-numbers comedic yarn, but then descends into yelling, screaming, swearing madness with a crucified Knoxville, a naked chick on a motorcycle, and Rob Riggle asking the...

Magnet Releasing has revealed a Red Band trailer for their new comedy, Nature Calls , starring Patton Oswalt, Johnny Knoxville, Rob Riggle, Maura Tierny, Patrice O'Neal and Darrell Hammond. In the November 9 release, Oswalt stars as Scoutmaster Randy Stevens, whose dwindling, apathetic troop ditches a scout meeting in favor of a TV-themed slumber party hosted by Randy's brother Kirk (Knoxville), his polar opposite and arch nemesis. When Randy rounds up the boys in the middle of the night, stealing them for an highly unauthorized/unorganized trip to the woods, all hell breaks loose as Kirk pursues with a pair of gun-toting employees (Riggle and O'Neal). Drinking, nudity, mishandled fireworks and tremendously inappropriate behavior around minors ensues, in the grand tradition of...

Magnet Releasing has the unveiled the first trailer for Nature Calls. Since Nature Calls is about a group of obscene men who take a group of foul-mouthed boy scouts on a camping trip, you better believe it's a red band trailer. When executed well, this particular comedy subgenre can be very funny. And with a cast led by Patton Oswalt, Johnny Knoxville, Rob Riggle, and Patrice O'Neal, the stars range from funny to very funny. That does not come across in the trailer, which is artificially crass and grating. But that doesn't mean that writer/director Todd Rohal can't pull it off at feature length. Here's hoping. Nature Calls hits VOD on October 4 followed by a theatrical release on November 9. Watch the red band trailer after the jump. Via Yahoo: Here's the SXSW synopsis: Polar-opposite brothers Randy (Oswalt) and Kirk (Knoxville) never saw eye-to-eye, but their rivalry is taken to...

Before Patrice O'Neal unexpectedly passed away last November due to complications from a stroke, he had one unreleased film left on his resume. While he was largely known for his stand-up and television work, he had been hired to play a character named Mr. Caldwell in the Todd Rohal comedy Nature Calls. Also starring Patton Oswalt, Johnny Knoxville, Rob Riggle, Darrell Hammond, and Maura Tierney, the scouting comedy premiered at this year's SXSW Film Festival and now is making its way to theaters and VOD courtesy of Magnet Releasing. And in anticipation of its release the first trailer has arrived online - and, naturally, it's a red band one. The preview first came online via Yahoo! and you can watch it below. A send up of The Boy Scouts of America, the film stars Oswalt as Randy, a boy scout trooper leader who is disgusted with the way that kids...

Nearly a year after his tragic passing at age 41, comedian Patrice O'Neal will grace the big screen this fall in a new comedy, "Nature Calls."
O'Neal appears in the satirical take on the Boy Scouts alongside comedian Patton Oswalt, former "Daily Show" correspondent Rob Riggle and Johnny Knoxville of "Jackass" fame. Oswalt stars as Scoutmaster Randy Stevens, who makes off with his troop of apathetic scouts for an unauthorized camping trip while his polar-opposite brother (Knoxville) and two gun-toting employees (O'Neal and Riggle) attempt to track them down. According to a press release, "Drinking, nudity, mishandled fireworks and tremendously inappropriate behavior around minors ensues."
While early reviews are mixed, Cinemablend's take on the film's 2012 South By Southwest premiere emphasizes the late O'Neal's final performance. "O’Neal steals virtually every scene of this story," wrote Sean O'Connell.
The movie will be released on Video On Demand, iTunes and Amazon on Oct.

This past weekend, the 2nd Annual Comedy Awards took place. These are the awards where comedians do what every other industry does for itself, while maintaining enough of a distance so as to still plausibly (but perhaps not believably) mock the idea of awards shows.
As I followed some of the results via Twitter, the name Louis Ck kept coming up. No big surprise there. He has established himself as the man of the moment in comedy. A sort of infallible figure of fallibility for comedy fans. His show Louie won best show, in the alternative show category, helping it avoid a showdown with comedy series winner Parks and Recreation.
But as a stand-up comic I was most interested in seeing who won best stand-up special. The nominees were Louis Ck, Daniel Tosh, Colin Quinn, Patton Oswalt and Norm MacDonald. First I will offer my opinion that of the nominees (for their specials,...

This past Sunday I watched HBO's new show Girls. It featured a perfect storm for me to potentially unleash new levels of hate and criticism. It was produced by Judd Apatow, who I think is the most over-hyped person in the comedy business not named Louis. His movies always manage to take a 90 minute comedy premise and produce 2 hour and 10 minute epics of inconsistency. Then there is the critical acclaim for the show. Nothing primes me more to hate something than universal acclaim. My philosophy is simple -- that many people can absolutely be wrong. And lastly, the premise of the show: four white girls of varying levels of privilege trying to "make it" through life and love all with wit and and a few tears. My assumption is that it would simply further influence the youthful dregs of Manhattan the way Sex and the City did for an earlier generation.

Curiously squandering an immensely talented cast, Todd Rohal's "Nature Calls," written when the writer-director lived in Austin, had more humor and humanity and life in its 10-minute post-screening talk here at SXSW than it showed in its previous 98-minute running time. Starring Patton Oswalt and Johnny Knoxville as brothers -- in clear refutation of all we know about genetics -- "Nature Calls" pits Oswalt's dedicated scoutmaster, eager to take his scoutmaster father on one last camping trip, against Knoxville's black sheep son.
Knoxville, Rob Riggle and the late Patrice O'Neal give pursuit,...

Making his leading indie debut in the dark "Big Fan" and then stepping out to star opposite Charlize Theron in "Young Adult," you might be surprised to learn that seasoned comic Patton Oswalt has yet to topline a comedy. But all that will change at SXSW this weekend when "Nature Calls" premieres. Directed by Todd Rohal ("The Catechism Cataclysm," "The Guatemalan Handshake"), and executive produced by David Gordon Green, the film boats a stellar comic lineup -- Johnny Knoxville, Rob Riggle, Maura Tierney, Patrice O'Neal, Darrell Hammond -- and that combination of leading a comedy and working with a strong ensemble was what attracted Oswalt to the film.
"I’ve always done comedy, but what struck me was I’ve only done quick supporting doses of comedy for movies. So this was the first time that I was like, 'Oh, wait a minute, I’m actually, I’m sustaining this.

While Sundance still gets the headlines, the last few years have seen the film strand of South By Southwest, the Austin, Texas cultural conference, become just as vital to the movie world as Robert Redford's baby. The past few festivals alone witnessed some of the best movies of their respective years debut, from low-budget indies like "The Puffy Chair," "Beeswax," "Tiny Furniture" and "Cold Weather" to more mainstream fare like "I Love You Man," "Adventureland" and "Bridesmaids," to international genre hits like "Kill List," "Attack The Block" and "Monsters."

When Tracy Morgan made a joke about killing his son if he talked to him "in a gay voice," it ignited a firestorm of controversy. But should it have? Morgan, an actor and comedian noted for his outrageous performance style, was doing a comedy set in front of a comedy audience. He was not speaking in public, from a pulpit or to a friend. He was on stage as "Tracy Morgan, Comedian"; the guy you should definitely "put the kids to bed" before watching.
Many comedians and fans alike, consider the comedy stage a sacred place, where the dark, offensive, sacrilegious and even stupid can and should remain uncensored.
