One of FX’s weirdest sitcoms ever is Wilfred, which ran for four seasons and starred Elijah Wood. Wood plays a mild-mannered man named Ryan Newman. After a suicide attempt, Ryan begins to hallucinate that his neighbor's dog Wilfred is speaking to him. Other people see Wilfred as a regular dog, but the audience and Ryan both see him as a man in a fuzzy dog suit. Wilfred is played by Australian comedian Jason Gann, who originally created the character for an Australian TV show, and then reprised the role for the American version.

CBS announced a pilot order for a currently untitled drama series from Scott Prendergast for the 2021-22 development season. Prendergast will serve as writer and executive producer.

In the series, a talented but directionless private investigator who is the black sheep of his family begrudgingly agrees to work as the in-house investigator for his overbearing mother, a successful attorney reeling from the recent dissolution of her marriage.

Prendergast is known for writing, directing and starring in the 2007 comedy film “Kabluey,” which follows a woman (Lisa Kudrow) struggling to keep her life together while her husband is away in Iraq, until her brother-in-law (Prendergast) shows up to help. Prendergast also wrote for the Elijah Wood and Jason Gann-led FX comedy “Wilfred” based on the Australian series of the same name. Additionally, he played the recurring role of Scott in HBO’s “Silicon Valley.”

Nerdly had a moment to correspond with David Zuckerman, the mastermind behind the U.S adaptation of FX’s surprisingly sweet and often endearingly crass Wilfred. It ended it’s four season, forty-nine episode run on Wednesday with a touching, poignant tear-inducing hourlong episode. I watched it and felt immediately comfortable and happy with the ending. I was happy that the series ended precisely correct for what the writers had envisioned for the entirety of the run. There were moments that fulfilled everything that the show promised and left no strings lingering.

It ultimately ended as a sobering account of someone’s mental illness. There wasn’t some grand mytholgical ending where Wilfred was a mischevious god named Krungel or Matdamon. Nope. But it didn’t need that. It offered rational answers for everything and even gave us answers to why Wilfred looks the way he does, or who Bruce is.

A few thoughts on the series finale of "Wilfred" coming up just as soon as I pull a dove from behind your ear... I have to admit to losing touch with "Wilfred" for much of this final season, between the move to Fxx and a feeling that the show had largely outlived its usefulness. David Zuckerman has talked in the past about not wanting to let the show get swallowed up by the mystery of who or what Wilfred is, but most of what I saw of the last two seasons suggested that the show ultimately couldn't avoid that trap. And, as a result, it went from a darkly funny comedy with a minor mystery element to a very dark psychological drama that would occasionally pause for a joke about Wilfred's sex life or eating habits. ABC has made another early comedy pickup, greenlighting An American Education, a single-camera project based on the BBC Three series Bad Education. Film and TV writers Peter Huyck and Alex Gregory wrote the script from a story they co-wrote with the original series’ creator/star Jack Whitehall and executive producer Ben Cavey through Tiger Aspect, which produces the British show. All four executives produce. 25-year-old British actor/comedian Whitehall is set to reprise his role as Alfie Wickers in the U.S. version where Wickers, a British transplant, is an unorthodox young teacher in the San Diego public school system. Alfie loves his students but his youthful, often naive enthusiasm and unconventional methods put him at odds with the test-obsessed administrators. Exclusive: ABC has put in development My Problem With Women, a comedy based on the popular Peruvian series of the same name. I am both gladdened and saddened by FX’s decision to renew Wilfred for a fourth and final season. I’ve been reviewing the dark comedy since its pilot episode first aired in 2011 and have found oodles of enjoyment from its twisted storytelling, which focuses on Ryan (Elijah Wood) and the bizarre life lessons he learns from a dog who looks like an Australian man in a dog costume: the titular Wilfred (Jason Gann). The series has never been a heavy hitter in the ratings, but it’s one of the more well written – and often beautifully shot – sitcoms. It is for that reason that Wilfred deserves one more season.

Nothing is more disheartening than a series that isn’t allowed to reach its conclusion. When Wilfred’s third season began spiralling downwards in the ratings ­– the season averaged only 580,000 total viewers – I became concerned FX would cancel the series...

Broadchurch has gone down a storm over in the Us, where it aired on BBC America, so when news broke that Fox was developing its own version of the hit ITV crime drama, it didn't come as that much of a surprise.

What did come as a surprise was the remake's first confirmed piece of casting - David Tennant is to reprise his role as lead male detective, though this time with a Yank twang. Let's just hope his 'Generican' accent has improved since the Rex Is Not Your Lawyer days...

FX Networks has picked up Wilfred for a fourth and final season of 10 episodes reports Deadline. It’s sad news but at the same time I’m glad to see one of my favorite shows go out on its own terms. Let’s hope they wrap this crazy series neatly and tell us what the heck has been going on for all these years.

The series, adapted from the Australian version of same name by Jason Gann, will move to Fxx, currently the new home of my other favorite comedy It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.

It's been announced that Wilfred has been renewed for a fourth but final season. The FX comedy will be moving to Fxx for its final run of 10 episodes (the show's smallest season).

Based on an Australian series of the same name, Wilfred revolves around the relationship of Ryan Newman (Elijah Wood) and his neighbor's dog, Wilfred (Jason Gann). Their relationship is unique in that Ryan sees Wilfred as man in a dog suit and the two have ongoing conversations. Fiona Gubelmann and Dorian Brown also star.

Wilfred's ratings have been in decline since its first season which attracted an average of 1.47 million viewers. Season two brought in 1.11 million and season three, which finished airing last month, dropped to an average of 590,000.

Season four, which will be the show's final run, will air on new channel Fxx sometime in...

Wilfred is both sticking around and making a move.

FX Networks announced today that the unique sitcom will return for a fourth and final season of 10 episodes… but it will do so on Fxx, the new network that is now also home to It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia and The League.

Stars Jason Gann and Elijah Wood will, of course, return for the show's concluding run, as will writer/producers Reed Agnew and Eli Jorné.

They took over as co-showrunners during Wilfred Season 3, which wrapped up in September.

Some might say that Ryan is a little crazy because of his relationship with Wilfred, his neighbor's dog. FX is hoping that viewers are crazy about this show and season three will have strong ratings. Will it be cancelled or renewed for a fourth season? Stay tuned to find out.

Wilfred took a week off from evoking questions from the audience, and instead just let the viewers take in a fun half hour of laughs in "Stagnation."

Any time you let Jason Gann sing it's going to be funny, but Wilfy's love song for Phyllis, and subsequent hate song towards Ryan - "love is a wrecking ball" - was above and beyond normal hilarity.

It took until the second act for Wilfy to slide into his character for the week, but once he got there, the head over heels in love version might have been one of my favorites yet.

If "Intuition" was the turning point of Wilfred Season 3, "Perspective" accelerated things in a hurry after taking that turn.

Following his tantrum at the end of last week's episode, Ryan was finally forced into talking to a psychiatrist. This head-shrinker, mind you, was cast perfectly, and then executed elegantly - and a few times hilariously - by Lance Reddick.

With much of the half hour spent inside Ryan's mind, this episode continued everything down that path that gives the viewers so many questions that we get whiplash.

Will we figure out more about Wilfy? Who is this spotted dog? Is Wilfy an alien? Why is Ryan creating another man-dog who wants Ryan to think Wilfy is an alien? Why does he love Reebok Pumps so much?

Zap2It had the chance to chat with the cast and producers of "Wilfred" at San Diego Comic-Con on Thursday, and they promised that some big revelations are yet to come in the ongoing Season 3.

"There's some really crazy stuff that happens this season," says Fiona Gubelmann, who portrays Ryan's (Elijah Wood) neighbor and Wilfred's (Jason Gann) owner, Jenna. "I didn't see any of it coming, and I think that our fans are going to be really excited, but also really shocked. The 2013 San Diego Comic-Con is at hand, and with it come a ton of big name movies and TV shows putting their best foot forward for the fans in attendance.

From primetime television series to cable favorites, web series to returning classics, television will dominate the San Diego Convention Center this year. San Diego Comic-Con 2013 kicks off next week in Southern California, and the complete TV line-up has been compiled, meaning you can finally plan out your schedule and geek out accordingly.

The annual extravaganza has released all the information - times, locations and those attending - for the programs that will hold panel discussions from Thursday, July 18 through Sunday, July 21.

Comic-Con regulars know Thursday is usually the calm before the epic storm of Friday and Saturday. And without "Twilight" on the agenda, this year's first full day of the Con looks even less packed than usual.

Except, of course, for the 20th Anniversary of "The X-Files" which should fill Ballroom 20 past its breaking point and likely have hardcore fans lining up early just to guarantee a seat.

On the movie side, panels for "Divergent" and "Ender's Game" will try to lure the "Twilight" crowd (and hopefully appeal to some non-"Twilight" loving sci-fi fans as well). While anticipated TV panels also include fan favorites "Psych," "Dexter," "Teen Wolf," "Wilfred" and "Beauty and the Beast" and newcomers "Hannibal," "The Blacklist," "Star-Crossed" and "Intelligence" (with "Lost" star Josh Holloway).

Plus, the first ever Con panel for the BBC's awesome "Sherlock" (which airs stateside on PBS). Sadly, without stars Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman...

FX is bringing its usual suspects to San Diego Comic-Con this year. Returning fan-favorites "Wilfred," "Archer," "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" and "Sons of Anarchy" will be having panels and booth signings throughout the four-day event.

Unlike most networks that only show teases and sizzle reels from their series' upcoming seasons, FX is going to be rolling out even bigger reveals. Both "Wilfred" and "It's Always Sunny" will premiere new episodes, while "Archer" and "Sons of Anarchy" are showing first-look clips and footage.

On Thursday's episode of “Wilfred,” Ryan (Elijah Wood) decided to take Wilfred to obedience school in order to get the owner Kim’s (Jenny Mollen) attention. Wilfred (Jason Gann) was excited about going back to school at first, but he quickly realized that obedience school just isn’t what it used to be.

The FX comedy Wilfred has returned for Season 3, and Ryan (Elijah Wood) is still learning how to overcome his fears and embrace the unpredictability and insanity of the world around him. As Ryan struggles to make his way through life, the one constant is his unique friendship with his neighbor’s canine pet, which he happens to see as a crude Australian (Jason Gann) in a cheap dog suit. As "Wilfred" heads into its third season, there are several recurring questions that remain to be answered. Will the reason behind Ryan's ability to see Wilfred as a person be revealed? Does "Wilfred" have a set end date? And, perhaps most importantly, will Ryan ever don Wilfred's dog suit?
