‘Nightmare Radio: The Night Stalker’ VOD Review
Image
Stars: Paula Brasca, Marie Ruane, Sophia Davey, Cassandra Magrath, Michael Lorz | Directed by Charly Goitia, Ryan J. Thomson, Lorcan Finnegan, Nathan Crooker, Adam O’Brien, Mia’Kate Russell, David M. Night Maire

Based on a concept by Michael Kraetzer, Nightmare Radio: The Night Stalker is an anthology feature assembled from short films released as early as 2011. The wraparound segments come from director Charly Goitia, as late-night radio DJ Candy (Paula Brasca) asks listeners to call in and share their real-life horror stories. In between the wild experiences recounted on-air, an obsessed fan takes great lengths to make sure Candy hears his voice – even if it sounds like someone trying to mimic Roger L. Jackson’s Ghostface voice.

Playtime opens the film in the middle of the night, punctuated by a television turning on and awakening a sleeping woman. As she ventures downstairs to investigate, a spectre dressed as a bride appears before piling on the spooky occurrences.

Frontieres Market Welcomes ‘Films for Women by Women,’ Gets Tipsy on ‘Space Beers’
Image
Frontières International Co-Production Market – back to an in-person event after four online editions – has unveiled this year’s projects, including 18 titles in its official selection, all in advanced development stages or now financing.

Ranging from the highly personal to absolutely outlandish, they make for a varied lineup. It is packed by female-centered stories, from “Camp,” about a woman so dependent on her new friends that she fails to notice their sinister agenda, to “Beasts of Prey,” “Bugul Noz,” “Jane” or Canadian offering “Bloody Bunny” by Kat and Karissa Strain.

“There simply aren’t enough women in the film industry, especially the indie film scene in Canada, for us to draw on as mentors and collaborators. We hope ‘Bloody Bunny’ can play a part in the change we would like to see,” they said, calling it a film “for women by women.”

Mètis filmmaker Laura Tremblay will produce, while the directors...

‘Wolf Creek’ Producer Matt Hearn Backs ‘Penny Lane is Dead’ (Exclusive)
Image
Matt Hearn, producer of “Wolf Creek,” one of Australia’s biggest genre exports, is backing “Penny Lane is Dead,” the feature debut of Australian writer-director and makeup artist Mia’kate Russell.

Set up at Melbourne’s Buffalo Media, headed by André Lima, who will produce “Penny Lane is Dead” with Hearn, “Penny Lane” looks like one of the strongest projects being brought onto the market this week at Frontières, in terms of its behind the camera talent package and financing.

“Penny Lane” features among Frontières’ six Forum projects, a program reserved for films in advanced stages of financing.

The film has drawn down “significant funding” from Screen Australia’s Producer Offset program, which means 40 of the film finance is secured, Lima told Variety.

“With the right market partners in place, we estimate that [a further] 20-30 of the production budget can be raised from our federal and state film agencies through their production investment funding programs,...

If you submitted a short film to the ABCs of Death 2 26th director challenge and your entry didn't get chosen to appear in the film, then have no fear because a second chance has been provided in the form of ABCs of Death 1.5. Everything you need to know can be found here!

Producers Ant Timpson and Tim League announced today the 26 entries chosen to be a part of Drafthouse Films’ ABCs Of Death 1.5, a spin-off of the immensely popular Magnet Releasing anthology series.
