The General Hospital family and its fans have suffered another major loss. Leslie Charleson, who portrayed Dr. Monica Quartermaine for nearly 50 years on the long-running soap, has passed away at the age of 79. The news was confirmed by the soap's executive producer, Frank Valentini.

Valentini took to X to post the news of Charleson's passing. A cause of death has not been revealed, but Valentini's post instead focused on her character of Monica Quartermaine, whom he called "the heart of the Quartermaine family." He also expressed that, "Leslie was a beloved matriarch of the entire cast and crew."
