The actors who are pretty good can´t escape from a screenplay that does not want any interpretations.

Everything in The Locksmith is something we have heard about before, from the story of the good criminal with a bad friend, but a nice guy, the ex-wife and above all, the story of a criminal forced to get involved in shady deals after leaving prison.

“The Locksmith” has the right elements for a crime thriller: an ex-con seeking revenge and being chased by a vengeful cop while trying to protect his family. Ryan Phillippe plays the title character, Miller, introduced in the middle of a robbery. Things go wrong and his cohort gets killed. Flash forward 10 years, and he’s out of prison. In the present, he reconnects with his daughter (Madeleine Guilbot) who’s in the care of her policewoman mother (Kate Bosworth). Of course he will be pulled back for one last job where things will go wrong.

The plot follows an ex-con and expert locksmith, Miller, who plans to turn his life around after prison. But after an unexpected turn of events, he gets pulled back into the world of crime and corrupt cops, which forces him to use his skills one last time. The all-new action thriller is directed by Nicolas Harvard in his feature film debut. While this is his first directorial as a filmmaker, many might not be aware that Harvard has been an assistant director with movies like Whiplash, Wind River, The Circle, The Contractor, etc., and hit television projects like Yellowstone and The First Lady, among others. The movie is based on an original story by Blair Kroeber, with Joe Russo of the Russo Brothers writing the script along with John Glosser, Chris Lamont, and Ben Kabialis.

Screen Media has picked up worldwide rights to Monsters of California, the directorial debut of Blink-182 frontman Tom DeLonge and will release the upcoming sci-fi adventure film in North America.

The film, about a teenager and his friends in Southern California who investigate a serious of mysterious, paranormal events, is described as a Amblin Films-inspired sci-fi adventure movie. DeLonge also wrote the script and performed original music for the film.

Screen Media will release Monsters of California in North America, with its sales division, Foresight Unlimited, handling international sales. The company will pitch the film to buyers at the AFM in Santa Monica this week.

DeLonge and Ian Miller co-wrote Monsters of California, with DeLonge’s production shingle To The Stars Media producing together with Stan Spry and Eric Scott Woods of Cartel Pictures.

Exclusive: Ryan Phillippe (The Locksmith) has signed on for a key role opposite Bella Thorne in Mitzi Peirone’s thriller Saint Clare, based on Don Roff’s hit novel Clare at 16. Rebecca De Mornay (Lucifer), Frank Whaley (Pulp Fiction), Bart Johnson (High School Musical) and Dylan Flashner (The Card Counter) will co-star in the film, which Screen Media has slated for release in North American theaters in 2023.

Saint Clare follows Clare Bleecker (Thorne), a quiet catholic college student with a divine vocation for killing. Phillippe will play the role of Timmons, a police officer investigating the latest murder in the small town, with Clare as his prime suspect. The film was directed by Nicolas Harvard, a veteran first assistant director whose credits include “Hell or High Water” and “Whiplash.” It marks his feature directorial debut. Screen Media is planning a day-and-date, theatrical and on-demand release later this year.

In “The Locksmith,” Miller (Phillippe), an ex-con recently released from prison for a bungled robbery, tries to walk a straight line and work his way back into the lives of his ex, Beth (Bosworth), a police detective, and their young daughter. Miller tries to avoid slipping back the underworld with the help of an old friend (Rhames).
