Fox Nation’s Plan to Infiltrate Hollywood: Passion Projects, Not Politics

Don’t let the name fool you.

Fox Nation shares a Manhattan headquarters with Fox News Channel, but it doesn’t aspire to occupy the same niche as its conservative-tilted cable parent. Rather, the subscription streaming service has enlisted big Hollywood names to provide programming aimed at attracting its Gen X-focused audience.

Kevin Costner, Martin Scorsese, Rob Lowe and Kelsey Grammer have all made shows for Fox Nation in recent years. Jason Klarman, Fox News Media’s chief digital and marketing officer, said the platform has attracted top talent because there is in fact “nothing political” about their Fox Nation projects.

Of course, there is some political content on the service too, drawing upon Fox News’ resources and profile. Conservative activist Riley Gaines and commentator Tomi Lahren are both featured talent on the streamer. But Fox Nation wants to carve out its own space, one that isn’t wholly aligned...

Fox Business Network Developing Reality-Based Series For Summer Launch
Strange Inheritance will take a closer look at real-life stories of unconventional inheritances, Fox Business Network Evp Kevin Magee said today. Fbn is developing the original alternative primetime program for a summer launch. The half-hour show is being produced by Jonathan Towers, founder and senior executive producer of Towers Productions, LLC. Towers has worked on several reality-based series, including A&E’s American Justice, National Geographic’s Inside 9/11 and History Channel’s Gangland. Strange Inheritance goes into production later this month.

The Civil War 3D Starts Production for 3Net
The Civil War (1990)
3net, the joint venture 24/7 3D network from Sony, Discovery and IMAX have begun principal photography on the world's first native 3D War Documentary, it was announced today by Tom Cosgrove, President & CEO of 3net. The Civil War 3D, the most ambitious 3D series ever produced for television, will transport viewers back in time, retelling the war's most pivotal moments both on and off the battlefields from the unique perspective of both sides in the historic conflict. The four-hour miniseries is scheduled to debut on the network in Fall 2011.

"Shooting in native 3D gives us the unique ability to bring an entirely new level of depth and emotion to this epic time in history with groundbreaking storytelling that simply hasn't been possible until now," said Cosgrove. "As well, The Civil War 3D series further reflects our ongoing mission to provide the kind of immersive in-home 3D experience available nowhere else on television.
