BBC Comedy Head Tanya Qureshi Moves To Drama Team
Change afoot as the UK’s Creative Cities Conference (Ccc) gets underway this morning – BBC Head of Comedy Tanya Qureshi is swapping her role for one in Lindsay Salt’s drama division. Qureshi will take a Commissioning Editor role, overseeing a slate of shows including Sally Wainwright’s forthcoming Riot Women and Dennis Kelly series Waiting For The Out (w/t), which was confirmed yesterday two months after Deadline first revealed it was being adapted. We understand Jon Petrie’s BBC Comedy unit will not replace her. Qureshi joined the BBC four years ago and has since ordered shows such as Dreaming Whilst Black, The Outlaws, Am I Being Unreasonable?, Amandaland and Ludwig. She was previously at I May Destroy You maker Various Artists Limited and has worked in commissioning at UKTV and Channel 4. Her new role begins at the end of this month.

Netflix's Trouble not only walks through a thrilling crime drama but also features a set of well-written characters portrayed by talented actors. Directed by Jon Holmberg and co-written by Holmberg and Tapio Leopold, Trouble is a remake of a 1988 Swedish comedy, Strul. Despite dabbling with some serious themes surrounding criminal violence and moral corruption, Trouble does not take itself too seriously and unfolds more as a lighthearted comedy drama.
In many ways, Trouble is like a Guy Ritchie movie, never leaving a dull moment with its snappy dialogue, fast-paced editing, and dry humor. Like every other memorable action comedy movie on Netflix, the Swedish film also presents a narrative that focuses on a web of quirky characters who find themselves in a series of unexpected scenarios. Since the characters of the movie play such a significant role in driving its narrative, many viewers may be curious about who plays whom after watching the film.

A remake of the 1988 Swedish action-comedy Strul, Trouble is a silly diversionary crime movie added to Netflix on October 3, 2024. The plot follows Conny (Filip Berg), an ordinary, kindhearted sales worker and recent divorcee who finds himself at the wrong place at the wrong time, leading to his wrongful arrest for murder and subsequent jail time.
As Conny tries to prove his innocence and reinforce his non-violent personality, the movie falls victim to many rote action-movie clichs and trampled "nice guy" movie tenets, none more glaring than a laugh-out-loud action sequence that, while attempting to develop Conny's moral traits, strains the movie's credibility beyond the point of no return. A closer inspection of the ridiculous movie platitude may help those on the fence decide if the farcical crime-comedy is worth watching.
