Ryan Gosling in Project Hail Mary (2026)
Project Hail Mary author Andy Weir has seen a cut of the film and reveals what he thought
Ryan Gosling in Project Hail Mary (2026)
San Diego Comic-Con is in full force and one of the exciting panels being featured was Project Hail Mary. In attendance for the Project Hail Mary panel were co-director Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, star Ryan Gosling, screenwriter/EP Drew Goddard, and, showing his faith in the adaptation, Andy Weir, author of the novel on which the film is based. During the panel, Miller noted that this was easily the most rewarding collaboration that he and Lord had ever had, which is saying something. As far as that collab goes, special time was devoted to waiting specifically for Goddard – who also adapted Weir’s The Martian for Ridley Scott – to climb on board.

Our Chris Bumbray was in the fray when the first five minutes of the movie were showcased to the exclusive crowd. Additionally, ScreenRant reports that Weir was glowing about what he had seen from the movie so far.

Project Hail Mary Author Waited for Key Member More Valuable Than Ryan Gosling for Months
Image
Project Hail Mary author Andy Weir had found the perfect cast and everything, but he waited around for a crucial player on his team with whom he had worked on The Martian.

During the film’s panel at the Sdcc (via ScreenRant), Andy Weir revealed that he waited for screenplay artist Drew Goddard to finish working on his project so that he could start working on Project Hail Mary, which is set for a release date of March 20, 2026.

I couldn’t ask for better talent in every aspect… we waited for Drew… We had to wait several months for him to finish [the project].

I’ve seen cuts of the film, and it’s really good, guys. It’s really good. These guys, they’re amazing directors, everybody knows that. I couldn’t be happier with how things turned out.

Of course, working with Drew Goddard is something that Andy Weir prefers...

James Gunn Reveals Hotly Debated Jimmy Olsen Scene In Superman
Image
One Jimmy Olsen scene in Superman was hotly debated, according to James Gunn, who delved into the details in a new interview about the Dcu's inaugural movie. The final decision was probably for the best, however, as Superman is soaring as one of the most critically acclaimed adaptations of the Man of Steel.

One of the main reasons for Superman being so celebrated is the movie's cast, with the movie's leads, David Corenswet and Nicholas Hoult, being particular standouts. The supporting cast of Supermanhas also earned ample praise, including Skyler Gisondo's fan-favorite Jimmy Olsen, who is characterized as a prolific charmer who even wins the affections of Lex Luthor's girlfriend, Eve Teschmacher.

After convincing Eve to help bring Luthor down, the two share a hug towards the movie's conclusion, which James Gunn revealed in an interview with The New York Times was nearly a much more frosty interaction.

“I was sent the manuscript from the greatest scientific mind of our time. And he’s sitting right next to me! No pressure,” Gosling said of Weir. “I knew it would be brilliant because it’s Andy, but nothing could prepare me for what he’d come up with this time. It showed me things I had never seen. It was...

Ryan Gosling's Second Space Film Project Hail Mary Is Setting Records Before It Hits Theaters

Amazon MGM Studios is riding the high of recent success. The studio has just declared that two of its projects are doing extremely well: the already-released The Accountant 2 and the upcoming sci-fi film Project Hail Mary.

Ryan Gosling's New Sci-Fi Movie Has Already Broken A Major Record Well Ahead Of Its Spring 2026 Release
Image
Ryan Gosling's new sci-fi movie has already broken a major record well ahead of its spring 2026 release. Gosling first carved his name into cinematic memory with The Notebook, a tender love story that captivated audiences. From there, he unveiled his dramatic range in Half Nelson (2006), a haunting portrait of a troubled teacher that garnered him his first Oscar nod.

Gosling showed his suave charisma in Crazy, Stupid, Love, and his stoic grit in Drive. He danced through dreams in La La Land, which won him a Golden Globe and earned him a second Oscar nomination. His brooding turn in his first sci-fi film, Blade Runner 2049, was followed by his scene-stealing role as Ken in Barbie, which became his highest-grossing release and earned him his third Oscar nod.

Holes has suddenly gained popularity again 22 years after its release, as the underrated Disney movie is currently trending on streaming. It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia Fans Should Check Out Kaitlin Olson's Hit Crime Drama On Hulu
Image
Anyone who's watched "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" knows that every single member of the main cast — which is made up of Rob McElhenney, Glenn Howerton, Charlie Day, Danny DeVito, and Kaitlin Olson — is incredible. Still, I'll put forth the idea that, even though McElhenney, Howerton, Day, and DeVito are obviously excellent, Olson, who almost didn't even get her role on the show, is the glue that holds it together. Olson is, to put it bluntly, one of the funniest performers working today, and as Dee Reynolds, often mockingly called "Sweet Dee" by the show's odious male characters, she's disgusting, hilarious, and unbelievably precise. Still, even if you're a huge fan of "It's Always Sunny," you might not know that, since 2024, Olson has been starring in her own series on ABC.

"High Potential," which was adapted from the French-Belgian series "Haut potentiel intellectuel" by showrunner Drew Goddard, stars Olson as Morgan Guillory,...

‘Project Hail Mary’: Everything to know about Ryan Gosling’s return trip to space as trailer arrives
Image
Former First Man Ryan Gosling has booked a return ticket to outer space. Seven years after his star turn as astronaut Neil Armstrong in Damien Chazelle's Oscar-nominated biopic, the actor is headlining Project Hail Mary for the directing team of Phil Lord and Christopher Miller.

Set for release on March 20, the film is based on a 2021 novel by The Martian author Andy Weir and is one of the most ambitious, effects-heavy releases yet from Amazon MGM Studios. The studio brought early footage of the film to CinemaCon in April as one of the star attractions in its 2026 lineup of movies that will be stopping in theaters before heading to Prime Video.

"Itʼs an insanely ambitious story thatʼs massive in scope," Gosling told the audience. "We tried to put it on a TV once — it didn't fit."

It turns out Superman isn’t just flying solo behind the scenes. While director and DC Studios co-head James Gunn has made it clear that Superman is his creative baby, he’s also been open about bringing in outside voices to help shape the first film in the new DC Universe. In an exclusive interview with Collider’s Perri Nemiroff, Gunn revealed that a few familiar filmmakers quietly played a critical role in fine-tuning the upcoming 2025 superhero blockbuster.

“I try to make other people become the studio for me, if that makes sense,” Gunn explained, noting the challenge of directing Superman while also acting as the studio head. “I really go to Peter Safran and Chantal Nong, and other directors. I showed this to Drew Goddard and Jason Reitman, and Damon Lindelof, and all these people to get their input on what works and what doesn’t, and they were so helpful.

Superman Star David Corenswet Talks Benefit Of "No Plan" For Dcu As James Gunn Teases Scrapped "Dark" Ending
Image
In case it wasn't obvious, DC Studios only has a loose plan for the Dcu. While it would be unfair to say James Gunn is making it up as he goes, a glance at how little from the "Chapter 1: Gods and Monsters" slate has come to fruition confirms there's no definitive slate in place.

Various projects have been added to "Chapter 1," while many have fallen by the wayside or been the victim of creative issues. That's not to say they won't happen, but DC Studios currently has no movies or TV shows officially announced for 2027.

Talking to Screen Rant, Superman star David Corenswet shared his take on why DC Studios not having a set plan is ultimately better for this franchise.

"I mean, [I know] essentially nothing. Essentially just that he means it when he says that no plan is better than the quality of the scripts and the directors who...

Ryan Gosling at an event for Lost River (2014)
Watch the trailer for Project Hail Mary, where Ryan Gosling has to save Earth
Ryan Gosling at an event for Lost River (2014)
Ryan Gosling plays middle school teacher/savior of humanity Ryland Grace in Project Hail Mary, a new sci-fi movie with a lot of impressive names behind the camera. First of all, the movie is based on a novel by Andy Weir, the guy who wrote The Martian, and you may notice some similarities in the plot. In The Martian, one lone man must learn to live by himself on Mars while awaiting rescue. In Project Hail Mary, one lone man must learn to live alone after he's shot into space, since apparently he's the only one with the technical expertise to figure out why the sun is fading away; if he doesn't solve the problem, humanity will go extinct.

When Ryland Grace wakes aboard this spaceship, light years away from home, he has no memory of how he got there. Happily, the trailer is here to fill us in; you can watch it above.

Ryan Gosling at an event for Lost River (2014)
Trailer Launch Sends Ryan Gosling’s “Project Hail Mary” Into High Orbit
Ryan Gosling at an event for Lost River (2014)
Ryan Gosling hurtles 11.9 million light-years from Earth in the first trailer for Project Hail Mary, released online Monday by Amazon MGM Studios. The three-minute spot—set to Harry Styles’ “Sign of the Times” and lensed by Oscar-winning cinematographer Greig Fraser—balances cosmic peril with wry humor, a hallmark of directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller’s work.

Gosling plays Ryland Grace, a middle-school science teacher drafted for a last-ditch mission to reignite the dying Sun. The film also stars recent Oscar-nominee Sandra Hüller, Milana Vayntrub, Lionel Boyce and Ken Leung. Drew Goddard, who scripted The Martian, adapted Weir’s novel; principal photography ran from June to October 2024 at London’s Shepperton Studios and on LED-volume stages that Fraser helped pioneer.

Amazon’s poster last week fixed the U.S. release for 20 March 2026, with IMAX bookings already advertised. Some outlets, including an earlier Wrap item, cite 30 March, but studio materials list the 20th,...

The Project Hail Mary Trailer Gives Away The Book's Big Sci-Fi Twist
Image
What if you took the "Science the s*** out of this" energy from "The Martian," added a dose of "Arrival," and swapped out the professionalism of Mark Watney for something closer to the buddy comedy hijinks of "Lethal Weapon" ... but in space? The results would be something close to the story of "Project Hail Mary," the latest adaptation of an Andy Weir novel. Starring Ryan Gosling as our newest astronaut completely in over his head, the story follows Ryland Grace as our main protagonist stranded in space with absolutely no memory of how that actually happened. The book remains one of my favorite reading experiences in recent memory, precisely because it plays out by throwing us into the deep end and slowly unspooling the circumstances surrounding these life-or-death stakes over the course of several chapters.

The movie, by directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller and written by Drew Goddard, takes a slightly different tact.

Ryan Gosling Is Earth’s Only Hope in ‘Project Hail Mary’ Trailer
Image
Ryan Gosling isn’t convinced that venturing to outer space seems like a blast in the first trailer for Amazon MGM Studios’ sci-fi movie Project Hail Mary.

Phil Lord and Christopher Miller directed the film that hits theaters March 20, 2026. Sandra Hüller and Milana Vayntrub also star in the feature that adapts author Andy Weir’s novel of the same name.

Project Hail Mary centers on middle school teacher Ryland Grace (Gosling), who finds himself on a spaceship with no memory of his past or how he ended up there. His interstellar mission, which must be successfully completed in order to save Earth from a potential disaster, leads him to meet a mysterious alien who also seeks to save his own species.

The film’s first footage debuted at CinemaCon in April and included Hüller delivering a dire warning. “The sun is not the only star dying,” she explains in the trailer.

‘Project Hail Mary’ Trailer: Ryan Gosling Is a Science Teacher Trapped in Space
Image
Ryan Gosling puts the “not” in “astronaut” in the first trailer for “Project Hail Mary,” Amazon MGM Studios’ adaptation of the Andy Weir novel of the same name. The film hails from “Jump Street” and “Spider-Verse” filmmakers Phil Lord and Chris Miller, with “The Martian” screenwriter Drew Goddard on script duties for a story that’s not entirely dissimilar from that previous Weir adaptation starring Matt Damon.

Gosling plays a middle school science teacher whom an international group enlists as humanity’s last hope — he is to travel 11.9 million light-years as Earth faces extinction with the Sun dying out.

Set to Harry Styles’ “Sign of the Times” and showing off some eye-popping cinematography by Oscar-winning “Dune” and “The Batman” Dp Greig Fraser, the trailer boasts a mix of humor and humanity that is a hallmark of Lord and Miller’s filmography.

Speaking of, this marks Lord and Miller’s first...
