Sci-fi comedy series Resident Alien has been canceled after four seasons. The announcement came on a Thursday night, just before the show’s finale, which was scheduled to air on August 8.

The series stars Alan Tudyk as Harry, an alien who crash-lands on Earth and tries to fit in with humans in a small Colorado town.

Resident Alien started on Syfy but moved to the USA Network for its fourth season in an attempt to reach more viewers.

The show also gained new fans when the first three seasons became available on Netflix last summer, giving it a boost in viewership. In an interview with TV Insider, Chris Sheridan, the show’s creator and showrunner, said he “knew going into [season four] that this was likely going to be our final season.”

He added, “Creatively, that was exciting because I knew we could spend the time wrapping up some storylines and driving toward an ending.

There will be no last-minute reprieve for Resident Alien this time as the sci-fi comedy-drama starring Alan Tudyk will be ending its run with the current fourth season, Deadline has confirmed. The upcoming Season 4 finale on August 8 will serve as a series finale.

After four intense yet fulfilling seasons, Black Clover ended its run, or so we believed, on March 30, 2021. Subsequently, an anime film, Black Clover: Sword of the Wizard King, debuted in Japanese theaters on June 16, 2023, also receiving an international streaming release on Netflix the same day. Fans will be thrilled to know that that wasn’t the last of Asta’s adventures as an all-new installment of the fantasy series has officially been announced.

During Crunchyroll’s industry panel at Anime Expo 2025, Black Clover received a brand-new series order, alongside a first trailer and a new anime visual, as reported by Cbr. Yuki Tabata, the scribe and illustrator of the titular manga, was over the moon as he shared the news in a statement while also commenting on the series' tenth anniversary this year.

I love Black Clover as much as the next fan, but calling it one of the best anime out there is too much of a stretch. I might love the series, but it hasn’t made me go blind. The series is the perfect Shonen stressbuster, but not anything revolutionary.

Black Clover is often stepped on by fans who call it too simple. Yet, many fail to realize that its simplicity is its boon, which also extends to its protagonist, Asta. This short king wasn’t born with any indicators of greatness, but paved his own way through all the insults thrown at him.

Asta might be the typical energetic, clingy, and loud Shonen protagonist, but he is also a simple guy who has one goal that he will tirelessly work towards. No matter how many obstacles are thrown at him, he manages to overcome them like a true Shonen protagonist, minus the chosen one narrative.

Plenty of popular Shonen anime and manga use the underdog trope for their protagonists. But on closer observation, it is revealed that these characters weren’t actually underdogs.

The episode of Resident Alien starts with a look at Asta’s past. Her aunt tells her a story of beings from space looking down on them. It isn’t that surprising then that during the episode, Asta’s aunt is open to the idea of aliens. She doesn’t even question Asta’s explanation when she realizes that Kate Hawthorne is the baby’s mom.

There are always flaws that can be pointed out or chinks in the story that can be made better, and even unexplained plot holes.

So why is it that while Black Clover gets immense hate for its flaws, other series get praised regardless of them? Black Clover has the same tropes as any typical Shonen and the same issues that plague them. But despite them all, I can’t help loving the series.

A tale of identity and morality wrapped up in a cozy sci-fi story about an alien's mission to wipe out all human life, Resident Alien has found itself a relatively small but impressively dedicated fan base across its four seasons to date. Earlier this month, the show returned for its fourth season following a break of just over a year, following the aftermath of the Mantid's arrival and Harry's attempt to flee the Grey's Moon base in late Season 3.

There is a six-month timeskip in Black Clover after the training in the Heart Kingdom. Not only does it mark the beginning of the Spade Kingdom arc, but it is also during this time that the characters like Asta, Yuno, Noelle, and others prepare themselves for their next bout.

During this time, the characters grow older and more mature and powerful. When they return, fans can notice a noticeable upgrade in their physical features as well as outfits. But while some characters have benefited from this change, Noelle might have been a bit mistreated.

Before the timeskip, Asta had a short and lean look with an average build. But after the timeskip, he gained much more muscle mass and looked quite bulky. His tight-fitting outfits accentuated his bulging muscles even more.

There are times when Resident Alien is an alien comedy, and there are times when it’s a full-blown existential drama hidden inside a body-snatching farce.

Resident Alien Season 4 Episode 2 is both.

It is about betrayal, loss, what it means to be human, and what it costs to try. And somehow, poor, weird alien hybrid Joseph takes the biggest brunt of it all.
