Books and TV shows have had a special relationship for over a century now. There have been countless TV adaptations of popular books, and even if we count this year (which isn’t over), there have been over seven or eight. While there have been many brilliant books that were adapted through the years, that doesn’t necessarily mean that the TV shows are also good, and that’s why we decided to compile a list of the absolute best TV shows that were based on books. As a side note, we also decided not to include Game of Thrones and Dexter, mainly because of how they ended.

On paper, it sounded like a surefire hit. Andrew Stanton, the two-time Oscar-winning director of Finding Nemo and Wall-e, was set to make his live-action debut just a year after fellow Pixar visionary Brad Bird had done so to astounding success. Stanton was working with one of the most influential science-fiction texts of all time, one that Avatar and Star Wars arguably wouldn’t exist without. All the right ingredients were in place, and yet 2012’s John Carteropened to greatly mixed reviews and disastrous box office returns, losing almost $200 million for Disney.
Yet, despite being remembered as one of the biggest box-office bombs of all time, with maybe the single worst marketing campaign in modern history, is John Carter actually deserving of its reputation? We’d argue no — while far from perfect, it actually holds up surprisingly well as a pulpy sci-fi joyride, brimming with charm, action and humor.

When "The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon" first hit AMC, my mom watched it before I did. At the time, I asked her how the crossbow-wielding fan favorite character managed to get from the East coast of America to France while living in a zombie-filled apocalyptic wasteland. "Some bad guys got him," she answered simply. On paper, it's a laughable explanation for a sudden, drastic change of scenery over a decade into a franchise that's typically only moved its characters around in ways that make sense. After I caught up with the show, though, it became clear that she was right: Daryl's big move boils down to the introduction of new villains whose misdeeds just so happen to take place in an area adjacent to one of the most beautiful cities in the world.

Daryl (Norman Reedus) is one of the most interesting characters from The Walking Dead universe. He’s a character created for the show who didn’t exist in the comics on which it’s based. But he slowly morphed into a fan favorite with his rugged good looks, proficiency with a crossbow, and bad boy on a motorcycle persona.
Oddly, however, Daryl is one of the few characters who doesn’t really focus on romantic connections. In fact, he only had one clear girlfriend in The Walking Dead and only demonstrated meaningful physical contact with one for the first time in The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon. However, he also had an entire episode featuring him and Beth (Emily Kinney) that had fans wondering if there was more to their bond.

Despite appearing in every season of The Walking Dead and being one of the franchise's most important characters, fans have never seen Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus) kiss anyone. However, the latest episode of Daryl Dixon season 2 featured the monumental moment: Daryl and Isabelle (Clémence Poésy) shared an intimate kiss in the final moments.
Daryl and Isabelle found each other in post-apocalyptic France. They were brought together by their mutual desire to protect Laurent, a young boy who many believe to be the messiah. Together, they've formed their own little surrogate family. After spending so much time together, in constant fear of death, Daryl and Isabelle shared an intimate kiss in the latest installment.
The kiss stirred up some strong feelings among the fandom. According to Reedus, fans shouldn't expect things to get any more romantic than that. “I don't think there was an intention to get to second base," he told Entertainment Weekly.

Editor's Note: The following contains spoilers for Episode 2 of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon - The Book of CarolAmid the apocalyptic dread, love and romance has managed to blossom multiple times in The Waking Dead franchise, with special mentions going to Maggie (Lauren Cohan) and Glenn (Steven Yeun), and Rick (Andrew Lincoln) and Michonne (Danai Gurira). One character that we could never imagine engaging in the frivolities of romance is Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus), so when he had a brief relationship with Leah (Lynn Collins) in the flagship show, we were pretty gobsmacked. The lone wolf is more known for his bestie bond with Carol (Melissa McBride), and while some fans have shipped the two, it didn't really seem like romance was in the cards for Daryl. But now, leading his own spin-off show, The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon, it seems like the City of Love is rubbing off on him.

Ryan Reynolds' first appearance as Deadpool was a disaster, prompting creator Rob Liefeld to step in and help fix the character. Despite the rocky start, Reynolds redeemed Deadpool in his self-titled films, making fun of the character's past in X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Fans are eagerly anticipating the release of Deadpool & Wolverine, which aims to redeem the MCU after recent failures and put the franchise back on track.
Deadpool is arguably a role that Ryan Reynolds was born to play, but his first big screen appearance as the character was far from perfect, and the character's creator, Rob Liefeld, had to bail him out. While fans best remember Reynolds for his two appearances as the character in the self-titled Deadpool films, and are desperate to see the character return in Deadpool & Wolverine, they've tried incredibly hard to forget his debut in X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

With its riveting story and incredible 11-season run, Frank Darabont’s horror-drama series, The Walking Dead, has solidified its place in popular culture. The AMC series ended its run after 177 overwhelming and entertaining episodes, but it is still winning our hearts. Indeed, the undead universe is thriving more than ever, as evidenced by several acclaimed spin-off series, including The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon, starring the inimitable Norman Reedus.

Due to its great popularity, the second season of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon has already been renewed. Well, if you’re a fan of The Walking Dead, you probably already know that the cast and crew spend a lot of time together filming. And with such close quarters and long hours on set, it’s no surprise that they might have a complaint or two about each other.

The world was introduced to an iconic show back in 2010 when AMC’s The Walking Dead premiered. Being a show about the undead and societal collapse in a post-apocalyptic world, the show ran for 11 seasons before its conclusion!
During the run of the show, iconic actor Norman Reedus portrayed the role of Daryl Dixon in The Walking Dead. Being an integral character of the show, Reedus was there for all the big moments. However, doing his own stunts cost the actor quite a lot of pain, and hence… quite a lot of Advil!

If he knew the number of injuries that he would sustain while filming The Walking Dead, Reedus would not have done so many stunts himself. That is exactly what Reedus said after talking about how many injuries he had sustained.

The Walking Dead is incomplete without Andrew Lincoln’s protagonistic character Rick Grimes. Similarly it’s hard to imagine the show without Norman Reedus’ Daryl Dixon, or his on-screen best friend, Carol Peletier, played by Melissa McBride. Over the years and throughout the episodes, these original characters have been embedded in the hearts and minds of the devout fans of the show.

Debuting in 2010, the post-apocalyptic zombie horror drama had many immaculate character developments and the series has given birth to several spin-off series including, Fear the Walking Dead, Tales of the Walking Dead, The Walking Dead: Dead City, and most recently, The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live. However, Dixon was not a character from the original comic book The Walking Dead was based on.

In the post-apocalyptic horror world of The Walking Dead, relationships can be fleeting and rare. Daryl Dixon, the beloved loner played by Norman Reedus, has suffered from a fair amount of grief and heartbreak throughout the series. So when a potential love interest came knocking in the form of Leah (played by Lynn Collins) in season 10, fans were thrilled as well as hesitant.
Can a man hardened by loss and survival find space for romance in a world overrun by walkers? Well, regrettably, following his brief on-screen romance with Collins in season 10, Reedus had to deal with the wrath of The Walking Dead fans, who were gripped by intense emotions.

Deadpool & Wolverine is set to bring back lost X-Men characters, and Kevin Durand would be up for reprising his role as The Blob. X-Men Origins: Wolverine faced backlash for Wade Wilson's portrayal, leading to a course correction in the Deadpool series. Multiverse possibilities in Deadpool & Wolverine make anything possible, with anticipation building up before the film's release.
Deadpool & Wolverine has hyped up Marvel fans for the ultimate throwback to the Fox X-Men Universe, with cameos galore promised as the multiverse takes control of the R-rated side of the MCU. This could mean that any number of once lost characters could make a reappearance – such as X-Men Origins: Wolverine star Kevin Durand’s The Blob. What makes that particular appearance even more likely is that he was once considered for a role in The Wolverine.

No dart gun, or First Omen, or Monkey Man will put Legendary/Warner Bros’ Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire to sleep this weekend. The pic, after an unexpected $80 million Easter weekend start, will continue to rumble with a 55%-60% second-weekend drop to between $32M-$36M. Through four days, the Adam Wingard-directed Monsterverse title stands at $87.7M, fueled by 57% of K-12 schools out Monday and another 14% colleges. Expect more cash today as, per Comscore, there are 28% of K-12 school out, and 5% universities.
Currently, both First Omen and Monkey Man are expected to come in around the same level — $12M to low teens. 20th Century Studios’ First Omen, despite being an R-rated horror movie, skews a little bit more female, while Universal/Monkeypaw’s Dev Patel feature directorial debut is more men.

The tale of John Carter has been iconic in the realm of science fiction novels for a long time, as it started way before Frank Herbert wrote his sci-fi epic, Dune. Unfortunately, the story hasn’t had the best fate in the world of movies, with several attempts never reaching their full potential due to development hell, but in 2012, Disney took the risk and created a film based on the Barsoom series written by Edgar Rice Burroughs.
Things didn’t go well for Andrew Stanton’s adaptation, called John Carter, as it became one of the biggest box-office bombs of all time, but our close sources say that the character is set to make a comeback.

The Ones Who Live integrates seamlessly into the Walking Dead timeline, syncing with the original series at crucial moments. Rick's whereabouts are finally revealed in this highly anticipated spin-off, bridging gaps in the main series' timeline. The interconnected spin-offs, including Dead City and Daryl Dixon, offer a comprehensive view of the post-apocalyptic world.
The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live is the latest and arguably most anticipated spin-off in the growing The Walking Dead franchise. It’s also already the highest-rated one to date. The post-apocalyptic series centers around Rick (Andrew Lincoln) and Michonne (Danai Gurira). Rick was rescued by Jadis (Pollyanna McIntosh) and taken to the Civic Republic Military (Crm), while Michonne is convinced he's still alive and desperately searching for her husband to bring him home.

Spoilers are ahead for multiple seasons of The Walking Dead.
Daryl Dixon remains one of The Walking Dead's most beloved characters. Daryl's relationships with Beth and Carol showcase his growth and emotional transformation in the post-apocalyptic world. Action scenes like Daryl's iconic tank take-down demonstrate his bravado and resourcefulness.
With over a decade of screen time to his name, The Walking Dead's Daryl Dixon has given viewers plenty of memorable moments, but a few of them stand out as his very best. Played by Norman Reedus, Daryl was created for the AMC horror-drama series and has no source-material analog. In fact, the show's writers penned the role with Reedus in mind. Thirteen years and two series later — one of which is a spin-off centered on Daryl Dixon — the character has become synonymous with The Walking Dead's legacy. Some big-budget movies, often adapted from popular books or comics, have failed at the box office, leading to the cancelation of planned franchises. Reasons for movie failures include casting issues, changes to the source material, or a decline in audience interest. It is not wise to produce a sequel to a movie that has flopped, especially in the expensive fantasy and sci-fi genres, as it can lead to further financial losses.
Several big-budget movies, many of them adapted from popular books or comics, were intended to be the first in a franchise. However, when they flopped at the box office, the plans for the franchise were scrapped. Some low-quality movies are still enjoyable, and they often have fans who would gladly watch further installments. Other times, the movie is so poorly done that any sequels would likely be just as bad.

Jennifer Garner and Christa B. Allen played the same character in 13 Going on 30, who reunited in Ghosts of Girlfriends Past, proving Allen was the perfect choice to play a younger version of Garner. Ghosts of Girlfriends Past featured Allen as young Jenny, the love interest of Matthew McConaughey's character, Connor. The Adam Project could have had Allen and Sean Marquette appear as Garner and Mark Ruffalo's characters in the past, further leveraging their chemistry.

Warning: Spoilers for The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon.
Despite never having a solid romantic storyline, Daryl Dixon from The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon spinoff still has feelings for Connie. Daryl's mention of Connie's name before Carol's suggests that she holds significant influence in his life and romantic feelings seem likely. While Connie is Daryl's most likely love interest, the spinoff has teased a potential romance between Daryl and Isabelle, although the outcome remains uncertain.

The newest rumor from Deadpool 3 is that Liev Schreiber's Sabertooth will be appearing in the film. Allegedly, his role will be bigger than a cameo but smaller than a main villain role. And that's smart because Sabertooth may not have what it takes to fight Logan (Hugh Jackman) and Wade Wilson (Ryan Reynolds).
But if Sabertooth did get an adamantium skeleton like he wanted in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, it would surely shake things up in the film. In X-Men Origins: Wolverine, William Stryker turned Sabertooth down at every turn, claiming that his healing abilities were not as strong as Wolverine's and he would not survive the procedure. But since Logan is getting an upgrade with his new yellow and blue suit, something could be in the works for Sabertooth.

Daryl has never been one to shy away from a fight, gathering plenty of enemies for himself over the course of the apocalypse. Over the span of his eleven-year tenure in The Walking Dead, Daryl garnered quite a Rogues Gallery of antagonists that would do anything to see him dead.

The end is almost here. The Walking Dead, the show that wanted to live forever, is now coming to a close…sort of. Though the series based on Robert Kirkman’s long-running zombie comic of the same name is airing its series finale on Nov. 20, the franchise itself will carry on in the form of numerous spinoffs.
Still, spinoffs or no, this is a fairly big moment in genre TV history. First premiering on Halloween night 2010, The Walking Dead was an instant ratings success for AMC and remained as such for much of its 11 seasons. It helped usher in a new era of fandom-friendly television for its network (which was coming off big prestige hits like Mad Men and Breaking Bad) and helped bring zombies back into the mainstream. With the 24th episode of its 11th season, The Walking Dead will finally be calling it quits.

Lynn Collins started her journey as Leah during The Walking Dead Season 10, and it came to a grinding halt during The Walking Dead Season 11 Episode 16.
TV Fanatic got the chance to chat with Collins about her character's demise, whether Leah would have killed Daryl and more.
Scroll down to get up to speed.
TV Fanatic: Leah had a great run. I was surprised how her arc ended. Did you know how it would play out before you signed up for the show?
Lynn: I knew her demise would be the end of the second section, so to speak, of the final season.
Talking to the writers, we would have loved to extend it, but it's just such a big task. It's such a huge ensemble, and they had to prioritize. So as much as we probably all would've liked for it to go on, it kind of had to conclude.

Spoiler Alert: This post contains details of tonight’s The Walking Dead 11B midseason finale.
“Everything I done, and everything I still do is so that we have choices,” says Lauren Cohan’s Maggie Rhee to her young son Hershel (Kien Michael Spiller)in tonight’s latest midseason finale of The Walking Dead. “The place we’re going right now, you may not like it, but I promise you, it is the right choice,” she adds as the zombie apocalypse series reaches the two-thirds point in its 11th and last season.
With the final eight episodes of the AMC show based on Robert Kirkman’s comics set to start later this fall, tonight’s “Acts of God” was certainly a reckoning and a revelation.
The latter for the death of Reaper Leah Shaw (Lynn Collins) by her ex-lover Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus) as she was about to take out her fatal revenge on Maggie.

[Warning: The following contains Major spoilers for The Walking Dead Season 11, Episode 16, “Acts of God.”] The Walking Dead has been known to have some pretty cliffhanger-fueled midseason finales so we’re pretty excited to see how the events of 11B’s finale turn out when the AMC zombie drama returns for its final eight episodes. In “Acts of God,” locusts descend upon our survivors providing cover for an intense hunt between Maggie (Lauren Cohan) and former Reaper Leah (Lynn Collins), the latter of whom is later shot and killed. Meanwhile, another group of our favorite apocalypse survivors assembles to reveal the truth about the “idyllic” society from the inside. We also see Daryl (Norman Reedus), Gabriel (Seth Gilliam) and Aaron (Ross Marquand) really get under the skin of the Commonwealth’s slimiest government official, Lance Hornsby (Josh Hamilton), whose devilish coin flip closes out the episode. We can only imagine what torment he has planned for our survivors,...

If you've been struggling to understand where The Walking Dead Season 11 is going, then The Walking Dead Season 11 Episode 16 was likely the episode you've been waiting for.
We had several hints the end was nigh for all of the characters, and the locusts were a nice touch to add to the dread of it all.
Marco's death was both predictable and frustrating.
Yes, we know Leah is essentially a sharpshooter, Terminator-like person with what can only be described as superhuman abilities, but it's difficult to believe she didn't wipe out any of the other characters.
