Dhanush Slams AI-Altered ‘Raanjhanaa’ as ‘Deeply Concerning Precedent for Both Art and Artists’: ‘This Alternate Ending Has Stripped the Film of Its Very Soul’
Image
Updated: The dispute over Eros International’s AI-altered rerelease of “Raanjhanaa” expanded beyond the director-studio conflict when the film’s lead actor Dhanush issued a public statement Sunday expressing his opposition to the modified ending.

“The re-release of ‘Raanjhanaa’ with an AI-altered climax has completely disturbed me. This alternate ending has stripped the film of its very soul, and the concerned parties went ahead with it despite my clear objection,” Dhanush posted on X along with the comment “For the love of cinema.” “This is not the film I committed to 12 years ago. The use of AI to alter films or content is a deeply concerning precedent for both art and artists. It threatens the integrity of storytelling and the legacy of cinema. I sincerely hope that stricter regulations are put in place to prevent such practices in the future.”

Eros responded Monday with a statement disputing Dhanush’s claim...

AI Rewrite Sparks Row Over Raanjhaana Re‑Release
Dhanush
Eros Media World plans to return the 2013 romance Raanjhaana to Tamil Nadu screens on 1 August, marketing the rerelease—retitled Ambikapathy—as “AI‑powered” and swapping the original death scene for a happy epilogue in which Dhanush’s Kundan survives.

The initial cut, directed by Aanand L Rai and starring Sonam Kapoor opposite Dhanush, concluded with Kundan’s fatal shooting after a political rally, a finale many viewers considered central to the film’s emotional punch and box‑office success.

Rai said he discovered the change online and called the move “dystopian,” adding that he will ask for his credit to be removed and is exploring legal action; both leads have privately voiced unease, according to Hindi‑language press reports.

Eros chief executive Pradeep Dwivedi countered that the producer owns full authorship rights and is testing AI across a library of 3,000 titles, promising that posters will flag the alternative cut and...

“Imagine, What This Gimmick Would Do To Cinema!” Aanand Rai Shocked To Know About AI Generated “Happy” Ending For His Film
Image
Filmmaker Aanand Rai is extremely upset. His 2013 romantic drama Raanjhanaa which created a stir in both critical and cinegoers’ circle, is now being given a new entirely unexpected spin which Rai had never thought of….

Yes, Dhanush’s character will live! In the original the character Kundan had died. It is this tragic ending that made Rai’s film memorable.

“Now , I suppose everyone will go home happy with their popcorn bag emptied and no emotions ruffled,” says filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali sarcastically. Like Raanjhanaa, his Devdas is also produced by Eros International. Bhansali wonders what they might do to his magnum opus: revive the dead Devdas, perhaps just to please Shah Rukh Khan’s fans?

Aanand Rai says he is in a state of shock. “I am still trying to understand the gravity of what’s being done. How can someone else decide how to conclude my film? Imagine...

Veteran Bollywood actor Naseeruddin Shah has reminisced about his cult-classic film ‘Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro’ in which he starred as a photographer.
