Trivia

  • After World War I, he was accused of treason and exiled from Greece, as were most of the Greek royal family. He returned to serve in the army during the Greco-Turkish War, but was exiled again in 1922 when the monarchy was abolished, and spent most of his later life in France.
  • Had not spoken to his son Prince Philip for five years when he died in 1944.
  • At the time of his death, he had been estranged from his wife Princess Alice of Battenberg for 13 years. They only met once during that time, at the funeral of their daughter Cecilie in 1937.
