Along with the exclusive image reveals, several of which can be seen below, the exclusive also included an interview with Del Toro, during which he dove deep into the essence of his Frankenstein, promising that, "[Boris] Karloff looms eternal. This July, Netflix is starting the fireworks early. Pacific Rim, Guillermo del Toro's 2013 monsters vs. robots blockbuster, is coming to the streaming service. Charlie Hunnam, Idris Elba, and Rinko Kikuchi star in the science fiction extravaganza, which grossed over $400 million Usd from the global box office. Pacific Rim will be available to stream on Netflix starting on July 1. It joins Pacific Rim: The Black, a Netflix-original animated series that is also available to watch on the streamer.
Pacific Rim came about in the wake of another project collapsing: del Toro's long-dreamed-of adaptation of H.P. Lovecraft's At the Mountains of Madness. The film was penned by del Toro and Travis Beacham, and was conceptualized as a loving homage to mecha anime and kaiju movies. The film, which bore a $190 million budget, was filmed in Toronto, Ontario, Canada; it was del Toro's first film produced there, and it has subsequently become his home base.

There’s something undeniably appealing about genre icon Maika Monroe. Perhaps it’s because, unlike so many others who got their start in horror, she continues to return to genre fare time and again. She sees merit in the subject matter and understands that horror films afford performers the chance to demonstrate a level of versatility they may not otherwise have the chance to. Seeing as Monroe is essentially a cinematic chameleon, each new role she tackles shows viewers a different side of her talent. Speaking of Monroe, we are pleased to report that one of her more recent efforts, Watcher, is now available for Netflix subscribers to stream.
If you haven’t yet experienced this one, you’re in for a treat. And if you’ve already seen the flick, perhaps now is an opportune time for a repeat visit. After all, the flick is suspenseful and atmospheric and...

The trailer opens as the book does, with a haggard, desperate Dr. Victor Frankenstein encountering a stranded ship's crew in the icy wastes of the Arctic. The trailer offers glimpses of Mia Goth (X trilogy) as Elizabeth, Ralph Ineson (The Fantastic Four: First Steps) as Professor Krempe, Christoph Waltz (Django Unchained) as Harlander, Burn Gorman (Pacific Rim) as Fritz,...

The 2022 thriller Watcher just landed on Netflix, and I’ve got to ask you guys to watch it. You know, it’s the kind of movie that creeps up on you… slowly, silently. Right from the get-go, there’s this uncomfortable tension, which I can’t really put in words, but that’s just there. If you’re a fan of that classic Hitchcock flavor, this film nails it.
It doesn’t rely on cheap scares or scary sounds, but digs into your nerves. Like for me, I went in expecting a moody, slow-burning movie, but what I got was a literal anxiety spiral. And truth be told, I loved every second.

Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein movie is set to arrive on Netflix later this year, but the film just got a freakishly exciting update. Today at the Cannes Film Festival, Collider’s Steve Weintraub was in attendance at a roundtable event with Richard Gelfond, CEO of IMAX. Gelfond spoke about IMAX plans for several upcoming movies, and he was asked if there were any plans for Frankenstein to be released in the custom format. Netflix has released movies like Glass Onion in limited theaters in the past for a week or two before the film begins streaming, so it wouldn’t be unheard of for Frankenstein to hit the big screen before its Netflix debut. While Gelfond made sure to mention that nothing is set in stone, he did confirm that an IMAX release for Frankenstein is “under discussion”:

Though it’s hard to believe, given his looks, Cillian Murphy has been in the show business for almost three decades. While his professional acting debut happened with a stage play named Disco Pigs in 1996, he wasn’t a household name until the 2002 film 28 Days Later.
However, in between starring in Danny Boyle’s science fiction horror and Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer, Murphy starred in several projects. While some of his projects, like Batman Begins, Inception, and Peaky Blinders, cemented his position as a versatile actor, there were a few underwhelming appearances as well.
The 48-year-old Irish actor’s 2012 outing with Elizabeth Olsen and Robert De Niro, Red Lights, can be categorized as such. The movie, which has a meager score of only 30% on Rotten Tomatoes, has recently been added to Amazon Prime Video. But the question remains: should you watch it or pass?

We first heard about plans for a live-action Pacific Rim series last year, and we now have confirmation that the project is moving forward at Amazon Prime Video.
Variety reports that the show is being developed as part of a deal between lead studio Legendary Television and Amazon MGM Studios. Eric Heisserer will serve as writer and executive producer under his Chronology banner.
Plot details are still being kept under wraps, but we do know that the untitled series will serve as a prequel to the movies. Apparently, "there is still the potential for new films in the franchise as well."
The Pacific Rim franchise launched back in 2013 with Guillermo del Toro's original movie, which was followed in 2018 by Steve S. DeKnight's Pacific Rim: Uprising. Since then, we've had the Pacific Rim: The Black animated series, as well as various comic books, novels, video games and other tie-in merchandise.

Prime Video is drift-compatible with Pacific Rim. A TV spinoff of Guillermo del Toro's 2013 mecha vs. monsters magnum opus is coming to the streaming service. Variety reports that Eric Heisserer is writing and executive producing the series.
Heisserer is an Academy Award nominee for his Arrivalscript; recently, he wrote and showran Netflix's Shadow and Bone. His Pacific Rim series is to be a prequel to the 2013 film, which previously received a 2018 sequel and a 2021 Netflix animated series. The new series will be live-action, but it does not rule out any future theatrical films in the franchise, which have lingered in development hell since 2018's Pacific Rim: Uprising disappointed at the box office. There is no word yet on whether any of the film's characters or cast members will return, or if the ever-busy del Toro will have any involvement with the series.

“Watcher” emerges as a study in suspense, its narrative steeped in echoes of classic cinematic suspense. The film unfolds in Bucharest, where quiet streets and ancient structures form a backdrop that speaks in whispers.
The city, with its unyielding architecture and foreign cadence, reflects a world where isolation is both literal and emotional. Here, silence and the murmur of another language add to an atmosphere of quiet unrest, drawing the viewer into a state of constant alertness.
At the heart of this dark narrative is Julia, an ex-actress whose move to this unfamiliar city transforms her existence into one marked by subtle apprehension. Her past in the limelight gives way to a muted life in a land where communication is fragmented, and each interaction carries an unspoken weight.

2024 was a great year for movie fans, delivering a combination of instant classics, blockbuster hits, and well-received sequels, from Nosferatu and Longlegs to Twisters and Alien: Romulus. While some of the year's best movies weren't blockbuster hits, others crossed box office records, delivering fan service and entertainment for various fan bases. The year has been perfect for large franchises.
Although not a surprise, 2024 marks a rarity for Hollywood as a year when all of the US' ten highest-grossing movies are sequels, without exception. From long-awaited superhero team-ups to continuations of iconic family animated movies, the year has raked in billions for major studios, affirming the industry's focus on major franchises. Financial success is no guarantee of quality one way or the other, but the year has produced plenty of successful and entertaining films.

In another distinctive year for movies, 2024 featured many actors in Hollywood getting very booked and busy. It is typical for an actor to have one or two projects for them to stand out in the year, yet some actors go beyond and star in three or more movies. Because 2024 became crowded with new cinematic features, most viewers didn't realize they saw one actor multiple times.
These actors in 2024 showcased more of their range. They could transition from a spectacular blockbuster to a more character-driven drama or even an animated feature. Acting veterans like Willem Dafoe and Giancarlo Esposito and continuously rising stars such as Margaret Qualley and Fred Hechinger are just a few of several performers who worked extra hard during this particular year.

Genres within television and film have evolved over the years, with several combining to form new genres and subgenres. One such instance has been spy and espionage TV and movies, which incorporate elements of thrillers, dramas, and more action-oriented fare. Television makes a good outlet for the genre, allowing for first-rate action without requiring the big budget of a movie, and able to develop slow-burn plots over many episodes instead of one two-hour story.
More often than not, spy TV shows emphasize the genre's action elements, comparable to movies like James Bond. More rarely, though, shows will lean more toward the espionage side of these stories, in which spies and agents are sent deep into the heart of a convoluted and intriguing plot. The best shows in the genre balance the two, combining harrowing thrills with fascinating characters and clever plots.

When Beetlejuice Beetlejuice hit theaters in late summer, nobody knew if it would connect with audiences like the 1988 original, now a beloved classic. Director Tim Burton and star Michael Keaton didn't want to make some cheap nostalgia-bait sequel, and waited until they had a new story they felt was worth telling. Luckily for everyone involved, it worked. The film was one of the biggest hits of 2024, grossing over $450 million worldwide and reinvigorating audiences' love for the characters. But as much as the creative team didn't want to repeat themselves, some elements from the first film were probably destined to carry over. One such element comes from one of the first movie's most memorable moments: the supernatural lip-sync number.
In the original, the invading Deetz family is possessed into singing and dancing to Harry Belafonte's "Day-o (The Banana Boat Song)" by the recently deceased Maitlands (Geena Davis and Alec Baldwin...

Though Beetlejuice 2 ended up bringing back a few surprise original characters from the 1988 movie, some received new equivalents to their roles in the plot instead, which, in some cases, left certain mysteries unsolved. Among the returning original cast and characters in Beetlejuice 2 are Betelgeuse himself (Michael Keaton), Lydia Deetz (Winona Ryder), and Delia Deetz (Catherine O’Hara), with Charles Deetz and Little Jane Butterfield also coming back with new actors. Overall, however, the majority of Beetlejuice’s 1988 characters were ignored or cleverly written out of the sequel.
For instance, while they were the 1988 movie’s main characters, deceased couple Adam (Alec Baldwin) and Barbara Maitland (Geena Davis) don’t return in Beetlejuice 2. Their absences are explained by Lydia as being due to the ghosts finding a “loophole” in their 125-year sentence at the Winter River house and “moving on.” In other cases, Beetlejuice 2 introduces new characters to...

There’s a great scene in 1993’s classic time-loop comedy Groundhog Day, where Bill Murray’s character experiences a near-perfect day with Andie MacDowell’s Rita, but messes up right at the end, missing his chance to kiss her. On his next loop, he tries to recreate their perfect day for a second chance and fails miserably because all his efforts feel forced and desperate. That’s pretty much what it feels like to watch Tim Burton’s long-awaited Beetlejuice sequel, which tries extremely hard to remind you why you loved the original 1988 movie, but ends up feeling like an incoherent mess, frantically shouting, “Remember this bit? What about this bit?”
Beetlejuice Beetlejuice joins the characters 36 years after the events of the first movie.

Tim Burton is one of the greatest creative minds to have ever worked in Hollywood, and it seems that the only thing wilder than the stories he puts on screen are those that he dreams about. While appearing at the Marrakech Film Festival (via Deadline), Burton was asked during a panel the question of what he dreams about. Apparently, getting a haircut from Donald Trump.
Yes, it seems that the director who masterminded freaky fantasy movies such as Beetlejuice, Sleepy Hollow, and Frankenweenie has been having some very peculiar dreams about the president-elect. As he explained to the press:
“I was at dinner at Donald Trump’s house. He wasn’t living Mar-a-Lago but a suburban house. I needed a haircut, so he personally gave me a haircut. It turned out to be a weird version of like a mullet and his hair and then I woke up.”

The 21st century has been an era of sequels, reboots, and spinoffs. While these projects have saturated the market for many years, some are worth checking out. One of the reasons that a spinoff could find unexpected success without imitating the original movie or TV show is by incorporating darker and more intense storylines. Since a spinoff doesn't have the pressure and expectations that the original film or series might face, it can experiment with style and tone to exciting results. A good spinoff will root itself within the story's universe while working to stand alone as an individual project.
When many of the best legacy movie sequels differentiate themselves by going down a darker path, this could mean that more mature and adult themes will play a large part in the project. This makes sense, as when a TV show takes on a more serious tone, more emotional strife...

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice keeps scaring up impressive numbers at the box office, proving a worthy and successful sequel to the cult classic, Beetlejuice. For Catherine O'Hara, a mainstay in both films, the Beetlejuice sequel looks set to earn her a new all-time commercial milestone.
Per Collider, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice has now earned $266 million domestically since its Sept. 6 debut across U.S. cinemas. The sequel is now O'Hara's second-highest-grossing movie at the domestic box office in the Canadian actor's 44-year acting career. Only the revered cult classic, Home Alone, has made more, earning $285.8 million in North America. While there is time for Beetlejuice Beetlejuice to catch Home Alone in the top spot, its box office momentum will likely slow down now that the film is available to rent/purchase digitally.
