In the new timeline of Marvel's Ultimate Universe, Wolverine is a former resistance fighter captured by the anti-mutant Directorate X and brainwashed into a living weapon.

Yesterday, we learned that Marvel Studios has “paused” the development of three shows they were planning for the Disney+ streaming service: Nova, which seemed to be relatively far along in the development process, with Edward Allen Bernero in the showrunner position and casting rumors swirling; Strange Academy, which was expected to star Benedict Wong as his Sorcerer Supreme character Wong, running a school in New Orleans to educate young individuals with magical abilities; and Terror, Inc., which I don’t think anyone had heard rumors about before, a show that would have centered on an antihero called Terror, “who possesses the ability to incorporate the body parts of others into his own form, gaining their memories and abilities.” During the latest episode of their podcast The Hot Mic, industry scooper Jeff Sneider and critic John Rocha discussed the news that these projects had been paused – and Sneider took the opportunity...

Wolverine is officially back in black—at least, in the world of cosplay, where a dedicated fan has brought one of Logan’s best costumes to life. While this look was already badass in the comics, seeing it brought to life in a cosplay debut has only strengthened its potential in the Marvel Universe, and may even convince some that it’s time for a comeback.
Utz’s Wolverine cosplay has accumulated over 51,000 likes and a wave of comments in both German and English.
Markus Utz (@the_bavarian_batman on Instagram), a German Batman cosplayer, is best known for his incredible Batman portrayals, including his charity cosplays at hospitals. While Utz has earned his reputation as the Batman of Bavaria, he’s recently shown that his love for the color black goes beyond the Dark Knight and extends to Wolverine’s iconic black costume from his X-Force days.

Cartoons have been running alongside television for nearly as long as the medium has been available, with some decades like the 1980s and 1990s bringing iconic shows that are still called upon fondly years after their release. That said, as of late, the 2000s' cartoon offerings have begun to be considered classics of their own and join the annuls of well-regarded and often-compared-to cartoons that newer releases take inspiration and guidance from. That said, not every cartoon of the 2000s has been widely celebrated, and some of them stand taller among the rest in the minds of viewers.
Some of the greatest '00s shows sadly have no official or complete releases available, meaning that fans have only their memories, well-preserved clips or the rare full-length episode to lean on if they want to relive the experience and share it with others. Warning: Contains spoilers for Nyx #5!!
The Krakoan may style himself as X-Men's new Magneto, but the Master of Magnetism was of sound and free mind when he made his choices. It has become abundantly clear to me, as a reader, that Hellion can't be acting of his own free will, and he's not the villain causing the real threat instead, Empath is calling all the shots, and his involvement with the Purifiers solidified that.
Nyx #5 written by Collin Kelly & Jackson Lanzing, with art by Francesco Moratino Sophie Cuckoo reveals Empath's plan, and while it's as heinous as expected, I can't shake a detail that's convinced me of Julian Keller's innocence. Manuel intends to force mutants to create a new Krakoa, and the Purifiers (or Truthseekers) are an integral domino, but I refuse to believe Hellion would freely work with them.

One of the best things about the Marvel Cinematic Universe is the franchise's ability to sow small details that go on to have massive implications for the universe, whether they're easy to notice or not. Like any film, the narrative of the MCU movies are at their best when they can pay off something that is set up much earlier. As such an expansive franchise, the MCU can afford to seed tiny elements of the plot whose ramifications are only seen multiple movies later, ending up to be much more important moments than originally thought.
These small beats that end up being much more important than they seemed are everywhere in the early Marvel Cinematic Universe. Back when the franchise had a more defined direction with the culmination of the Infinity Saga storyline, the McU's films were excellent at teasing the direction of future characters with now-obvious foreshadowing. Warning: Spoilers for Dazzler #1!An iconic X-Men gadget from Nightcrawler's past is ready to make a comeback in the Marvel Universe. One perk about the rich lore of the Marvel Universe is that something that's been long forgotten, like one of Marvel's cool gadgets, can go underused for years, but then introduced again at any time by way of a different character and story.
One such gadget that has now been re-introduced into Marvel lore is Nightcrawler's classic image inducer, returning in Dazzler #1 by Jason Loo, Rafael Loureiro, Java Tartaglia, and Ariana Maher. The image inducer is a gadget with almost fifty years' worth of history and is more deeply associated with Nightcrawler. However, it's Dazzler's lead drummer, Shark Girl, and the band's manager, Wind Dancer, who bring it back.

Released in 2008 alongside Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk was the second film in what would become the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). However, it remains one of the MCU’s most controversial entries, lacking the same iconic status as other films.
Several factors contribute to its contentious reputation, but the most glaring issue—the “elephant in the room”—is the replacement of Edward Norton with Mark Ruffalo as the Hulk. This recasting stands out as the MCU’s most significant, being the only instance of a major hero being replaced.
Norton’s departure wasn’t a mere misfortune; he was let go from the MCU. While fans and media have long speculated about the reasons behind Norton’s dismissal, last year’s MCU: The Reign of Marvel might shed light on the true cause of his firing.

The Incredible Hulk was released in 2008, around the same time as Iron Man, and it was the second movie in what would eventually become the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). But it is also one of the MCU’s most controversial movies, as it doesn’t really have the same status as the other MCU movies.
The reasons for that are numerous, but while the MCU is slowly getting back to that movie and retconning everything they need to retcon, the biggest problem with this movie – the elephant in the room – is the fact that the MCU replaced Edward Norton with Mark Ruffalo as the Hulk, in the MCU’s biggest recast to-date, as it is the only time that a major hero has actually been recast.

Marvel superheroes have had some memorable last moments on film. Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) affirming one last time "I am Iron Man" before annihilating Thanos with a finger snap in "Avengers: Endgame." "Logan" has Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) dying a peaceful death with his heart in his hands, finally knowing the last answer all people receive: "So this is what it feels like." Remy LeBeau, currently deceased after the shocking "X-Men '97" episode "Remember It," stopped the completion of a mutant genocide by detonating the Sentinel that skewered him, giving his life with one last boast: "The name's Gambit — remember it!"
But while a handful of superheroes have died in the movies, many more have in the comics. Since the 1992 event "The Death of Superman," it's pretty much become a right of passage for any Marvel or DC character deemed important enough to receive a headlining death and then resurrection.

Theres no stopping the Goddess of Death, even if Marvel arent necessarily used to having a whole script. Cate Blanchett, who proved to be an admirable foil to Chris Hemsworths God of Thunder in one of the Marvel Cinematic Universes most beloved big-screen entries, spoke about the strange process behind making Thor: Ragnarok (2017). But under the guidance of visionary director, Taika Waititi, the third Thor film went on to become not only a financial success, but a fan-favorite that even bedazzled critics.
Blanchetts villainous Hela remains quite memorable, and she played an enormous part in the superhero flicks success. However, the Oscar winner revealed that bringing the project to life involved quite the unorthodox process, which did not include a full screenplay. While promoting her new film, Borderlands, Blanchett said in an interview with GQ:

Marvel has always had a fascination with stretching the limits of what is known and what is possible. One of the first proofs of that concept was the 1990s production of the X-Men animated series. Now, evolving into X-Men ’97, the show not only serves as an extension of the past but also re-examines what made the 1992 series so successful in the first place.

With an inherent interest in the progress of the modern-day MCU, fans and studio execs, sponsors and competitors, partners and collaborators – all wait patiently on the sidelines, waiting for the comic book studio juggernaut to either slip up or create a masterpiece. However, with recent accomplishments of X-Men ’97 under the belt, Kevin Feige may not call it quits just yet.

As we edge closer to the release of Deadpool & Wolverine and everything that the film is set to represent, fan expectations, as one would expect, are at an all-time high. The MCU has struggled in recent years and appears to have pinned a lot on the upcoming Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds-starrer, which most notably sees the return of Wolverine to live-action since 2017’s Logan.

The movie was not only praised for its stellar narrative, but it also brought forth the character of X-23, played by Dafne Keen, a potential replacement for Jackman’s character once he eventually hangs up his boots. The MCU will also need to be well-prepared for that eventuality, as even if Wolverine plays a major role in upcoming Avengers narratives, his clone and adoptive daughter is the obvious replacement who is bound to take up the mantle in due time.

There were many reasons why The Walt Disney Company merged with 21st Century Fox, with the rights to the Fantastic Four and X-Men franchises a small, yet crucial part of the $71.3 billion deal.
Marvel Studios will release The Fantastic Four reboot next year and recently found a writer for its take on the X-Men. While the quality of Fox's Marvel movies fell off a cliff with the likes of Dark Phoenix and The New Mutants, the studio also produced more than a few critical and commercial hits.
Fox had plenty of bold ideas for the Marvel characters it held the rights to before Marvel Studios pulled the plug on them. In this feature, we're revisiting the most intriguing, exciting, and sometimes awful-sounding projects which, in another timeline, you may have watched in a theater by now.

If Wolverine’s journey into the past from a time-tested, dystopian, and apocalyptic future in X-Men: Days of Future Past seemed like déjà vu to some fans, it could be logically explained to those who were invested in the mutant superhero team in the ’90s.

At the beginning of William Shatner's 1989 film "Star Trek V: The Final Frontier," the crew of the U.S.S. Scotty (James Doohan) and Uhura (Nichelle Nichols) are overseeing the repairs back on the ship. Chekhov (Walter Koenig) and Sulu (George Takei) are hiking together in Yosemite while Dr. McCoy (DeForest Kelley), Captain Kirk (Shatner), and Spock (Leonard Nimoy) set up their own camp nearby. This must not be a very long shore leave, otherwise I assume these people would all be at home visiting their families and not hanging out with their co-workers.
At night, McCoy, Kirk, and Spock gather around a campfire, cook beans, and enjoy marshmallows. Everything is comfortably low-tech. Kirk and McCoy attempt to introduce Spock to the Earth tradition of singing songs around the campfire, teaching him the lyrics to "Row,...

"The Incredible Hulk" was an early stumbling block for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Released in June 2008, a mere month after "Iron Man," lightning did not strike twice for Marvel Studios' burgeoning movie enterprise; "Incredible Hulk" got a shrug from critics and underperformed at the box office.
Even so, Marvel Studios steamrolled ahead. Star Edward Norton didn't return for any future MCU films and Bruce Banner was recast with Mark Ruffalo for "The Avengers." The behind-the-scenes book "MCU: The Reign of Marvel Studios" by Dave Gonzales, Gavin Edwards, and Joanna Robinson features a chapter about "The Incredible Hulk" and its gamma radiation-flavored fallout. Even so, Marvel Studios steamrolled ahead. Star Edward Norton didn't return for any future MCU films and Bruce Banner was recast with Mark Ruffalo for "The Avengers." Xorn, a relatively unknown mutant villain, kills Jean Grey by using his magnetic manipulation powers to send a lethal electromagnetic pulse through her body. Nightcrawler sacrifices himself to save Hope Summers from the powerful and little-known villain Bastian, who impales Nightcrawler through the chest. Cyclops allows himself to be killed by nameless Breakworld fighters in a moment of self-sacrifice to stop a threat to Earth, showing that even powerful X-Men can fall to Z-list villains.
The X-Men is one of the most formidable superhero teams in Marvel Comics history, though even they aren’t invincible. Over the years, more than a few members of the mutant militant force have been killed in action.
While some of those deaths were heroic and well-earned, with only the most prominent and powerful supervillains in their rogue’s gallery being able to do them in, a number of X-Men were killed by villains who...

If the mutant brawler Wolverine is famous for two things, they're his deadly claws and his unbeatable healing factor - however, his daughter X-23 found a shockingly simply way to cancel out his healing, taking Logan to pieces with her own claws while ensuring he couldn't recover.
In X-23: Target X #6 by Christopher Yost, Craig Kyle, and Mike Choi, Laura ventures to Xavier’s institute to find and kill Wolverine. After stalking him for days, she finally confronts him at the Canadian border and attempts to kill him, hoping that she can prevent any future deaths caused by him or any potential clone. Laura tears into Logan’s skin then starts driving handfuls of dirt into his lacerations. Logan soon realizes that Laura is stopping him from healing by using the dirt to prevent the cuts in his skin from closing. This gross but simple workaround is used by...

Laura Kinney is currently the new Wolverine, taking over the mantle from her father, but before that she was X-23, and has been featured in multiple comics as well as the movie Logan. But now, a new and inventive cosplay shows off one of her coolest costumes worn during her time as part of the New X-Men.
Subject X-23 was created by the Weapon X program, when Laura’s mother, Sarah Kinney mixed her own DNA with that of Logan. The project lead, Dr. Martin Sutter was attempting to clone Wolverine in hopes of creating another and more controllable version of him, but the experiment went wrong. Thanks to help from her mother, Laura escaped and tracked down her father intent on killing him. Instead, he convinced her to find another path, which ultimately leads her to enrolling at the Xavier Institute and becoming part of the X-Men.

When it comes to healing factors, Marvel Comics’ Deadpool is one of the first characters many fans may think of. Although he lacks the signature adamantium skeleton of his old friend Wolverine, Wade Wilson’s own healing capacities definitely give Logan’s a run for their money. And in many ways, the Merc with a Mouth’s power just might be superior to that of the fan-favorite X-Men mainstay.
Deadpool’s healing factor is as synonymous to his brand as his world-famous mouth, but many fans may not realize just how powerful the former trait is. Unfortunately for Wilson, a time-travel caper led by X-Force shows fans just how durable he really is as a total surprise to both readers and the time-displaced X-Men. After all, Wade has always had close ties to characters like Wolverine or his old buddy, Cable, but the “Messiah War” crossover event by Chris Yost,...

This review contains no spoilers and is based on the first three episodes of Pacific Rim: The Black season 1.
Guillermo del Toro’s neon-drenched monsters-vs-robots epic Pacific Rim wore its influences proudly on its elbow cannon-equipped sleeves, so an anime-style spin-off makes a certain kind of inevitable sense. Pacific Rim: The Black is a seven-episode Netflix Original that seeks to expand the Pacific Rim mythology – think “extended universe” rather than “sequel”.
Created by Thor: Ragnarok co-writer Craig Kyle and X-Men: Evolution head writer Greg Johnson, the show follows siblings Hayley (Gideon Adlon) and Taylor Travis (Calum Worthy) as they struggle to survive in a post-apocalyptic, kaiju-infested Australia.
A quick introductory voiceover establishes the setup: after multiple new Breaches appeared on the continent, the Pan Pacific Defence Corps cut its losses and moved out of Australia entirely. A half-hearted evacuation pulled out some survivors; the rest were abandoned. Hayley and Taylor’s parents were Jaeger pilots,...

Netflix dropped the trailer for anime series “Pacific Rim: The Black” Friday, revealing an animated world that has been overrun by Kaiju.
Based on filmmaker Guillermo del Toro’s blockbuster “Pacific Rim” movie franchise, “Pacific Rim: The Black” continues the epic battles between monsters and robots, this time through the eyes of two teens in Australia.
Per Netflix, “There was a time when Kaiju rose from the Pacific Rim only to encounter gigantic robots, Jaegers, built to fight them back. That time has passed. Now, Australia has been overrun by Kaiju, forcing the evacuation of an entire continent. Left behind, teenage siblings Taylor and Hayley embark on a desperate search for their missing parents, teaching themselves to pilot a battered, long-abandoned Jaeger to help in their quest and give them even the slightest hope of surviving.”

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is well known for being a highly collaborative environment, but Kevin Feige has always been the main creative driving force behind the scenes, and the actors themselves aren’t particularly involved in the development of the movies they appear in. In fact, Paul Rudd is the only star to have been given a writing credit in the franchise to date, and even then he was just one of four scribes on Ant-Man and five on the sequel.
That might lead to some issues on Deadpool 3, seeing as Ryan Reynolds was personally responsible for dragging the first film out of a dozen years stuck in development hell. The 44 year-old also produced and co-wrote the two Fox blockbusters as well as playing the lead role, and you’d imagine that he wouldn’t want to give up those responsibilities when it comes to the third installment.

Ryan Reynolds may be the man responsible for Deadpool finding untold fame and popularity following the release of 2016’s titular first film in the franchise, but the affable actor certainly isn’t the only household name to have played Marvel’s foul-mouthed antihero in recent times.
Nolan North, who most recently starred in Crystal Dynamics’ Marvel’s Avengers as Tony Stark/Iron Man, earned his own recognition for portraying the Merc with a Mouth in publisher Activision’s 2013 Deadpool game. While wholly unremarkable in terms of gameplay, critics heaped praise on North’s performance for perfectly encapsulating the mutant’s personality and it’s one that Reynolds himself would eventually take inspiration from for his role in the aforementioned film.
Speaking to ComicBookMovie.com in a recent interview, North recalled the moment when producer Craig Kyle relayed to him that the Canadian actor was a longtime fan of his, saying:

There is always debate when ranking Marvel films, but most agree on one thing: Thor: The Dark World is near the bottom. The actor behind the film's villain Malekith, Christopher Eccleston, has never been shy to voice his agreement. It seems he's continued to be a fan of the franchise, however, and had great things to say about the new creative team behind Thor: Love and Thunder.
When asked about his experience on Thor: The Dark World at New York Comic Con, Eccleston reiterated his earlier statements about having to be "in make-up for six, seven hours every day," which was something they did not tell him would be required up front. In fact, the Doctor Who actor is unrecognizable in his Malekith get-up, so Marvel really missed their opportunity to show off their prolific star. Something we'd love to see them remedy somewhere in their extensive slate. He had...

Christopher Eccleston hasn’t had a lot of nice things to say in the past about his experience working on 2013’s Thor: The Dark World. In an interview last year with The Guardian, for instance, the Malekith actor went as far as to joke that filming the God of Thunder’s second solo outing made him want to put a gun in his mouth. But during a recent panel at New York Comic Con, the star suggested that he still isn’t completely closed off to the idea of returning to the Marvel franchise.
Naturally, Eccleston still managed to get in a few more jabs at his sole outing in the McU, characterizing his experience on set as tedious and uncomfortable:
“I was in make-up for six, seven hours every day – they didn’t tell me that up front, so I wasn’t pleased about that. There was a lack of humor in the film,...
