G4 is shutting down — again.

Comcast Spectacor, the cable and entertainment giant’s sports and esports division, told G4 TV employees Sunday that the gaming network was shutting down effective immediately. The decision has resulted in 45 staff members of G4 TV losing their jobs.

In a memo, obtained by Variety, Comcast Spectacor chairman and CEO Dave Scott cited low viewership and said the network had not achieved “sustainable financial results.”

“Over the past several months, we worked hard to generate that interest in G4, but viewership is low and the network has not achieved sustainable financial results,” Scott wrote. “This is certainly not what we hoped for, and, as a result, we have made the very difficult decision to discontinue G4’s operations, effective immediately.“

Comcast Spectacor in July 2020 said it would reboot G4 TV, which NBCUniversal shut down in 2013 (after the network first launched in 2002). Russell Arons, the former Warner Bros.,...

The rebirthed G4 TV is kicking off a weekly content series — dubbed “B4G4” — to get fan feedback on the programming ahead of the gaming network’s official summer 2021 bow.

G4, which is being revived under the auspices of Comcast’s Spectator sports unit, will publish content under the B4G4 (“before G4”) banner on its YouTube and Twitch channels. Execs say the pre-release strategy will let them experiment with several formats, including original sketch comedy, game reviews, talent collaborations, and music and esports parodies. G4 will encourage fans to chime in on what they like — and don’t like — on the official Reddit r/g4tv forum.

In the B4G4 mix will be elements of the daily variety/news show “Attack of the Show!” and game-reviews show “X-Play,” two of G4’s most popular original series. Those are both returning to the network’s programming slate at launch,...

On Wednesday night, G4, the gaming network that aired from 2002-2014 and recently announced a revival, held a charity special that saw its previous lineup of hosts — Olivia Munn, Kevin Pereira, Adam Sessler, Morgan Webb, Kristin Adams and Blair Herter — reunite for a night of nostalgia and reminiscing.

But, at the very end of the special (benefiting G4’s multi-day Gravython effort), a hint at G4’s future, not its past, shown in the form of WWE star Xavier Woods, also known as Austin Creed, knocking down the door and saving them from a scripted dire situation. With that, G4 announced that Woods would be its first signed talent for the new version of the network.

For anyone following G4 since it announced its revival in July, however, the announcement probably didn’t come as too much as a surprise. Woods fought a vigorous social media campaign under the hashtag...

Updated: After nearly six years sitting in mothballs, the G4 video-game TV network is coming back — with some kind of relaunch next year by Comcast.

On Friday, the Twitter accounts of G4TV and G4’s Attack of the Show! and X-Play, two popular shows on the network, both posted the same cryptic teaser video, captioned with “We never stopped playing.” The video culminates with the numerals “2021.”

IGN, the game and entertainment publication owned by j2 Global’s Ziff Davis, also posted a version of the video (two minutes before the G4 account did). The teasers were timed for Comic-Con@Home, the first virtual streaming edition of the annual fan convention.

"Arrow" is bringing a "Fringe" veteran back in Season 2. Seth Gabel will revisit his role as the Count, a Vertigo-peddling drug dealer last seen in an insane asylum. Showrunners Marc Guggenheim and Andrew Kreisberg announced the news via the "DC All Access" web series.

"Seth Gabel is returning to the show as Count Vertigo," Guggenheim reveals in a clip from the online show's premiere episode. "He's coming back, and he's bringing a whole lot of chaos with him."

Based on the DC comics character of Count Vertigo, Gabel's character was seen in two episodes of Season 1. Utterly amoral and quite eccentric to begin with, the Count went completely insane after an overdose of his own drug, Vertigo. The character's purpose or timing in Season 2 have not yet been revealed.

Gabel has recently been cast in Wgn America's series, "Salem."

A familiar foe will soon resurface on Arrow Season 2.

On the first edition of DC All Access - a behind-the-scenes look at the DC universe that premieres today at 1 p.m. Est at DCcomics.com - producers Marc Guggenheim and Andrew Kreisberg reveal a major casting spoiler for fans:

Seth Gabel is on his way back at Count Vertigo!

"He is coming back and he is bringing a whole lotta chaos with him," Guggenheim says of the actor/character who appeared on two Arrow Season 1 episodes as a drug-dealing villain whose narcotic invaded local clubs and caused some serious problems for Oliver and company.

DC All Access will be hosted by G4 alums Tiffany Smith and Blair Herter and will be based in DC Entertainment's headquarters.

Arrow, meanwhile, airs a new episode tomorrow night on The CW at 8/7c.

"Attack Of The Show!" has been cancelled.

According to TV Guide, two of G4's most popular shows will not be returning after December with "X-Play" being nixed as well. The network, which is undergoing a makeover, is sad to see both shows go.

"'Attack of the Show' and 'X-Play' have been important for G4, and we want to acknowledge the creative people who have helped inspire and showcase the phenomenon of gamer culture," G4 Media general manager Adam Stotsky said. "With more than 3,000 episodes aired between them, we have more than enough great material to honor these innovators and their amazing contributions as we bring both shows to a close."

According to a press release, the network is being rebranded and will "move into a more upscale, sophisticated guy TV space" with the possibility of being named "G4Men."

The countdown to the end of "The Twilight Saga" on movie screens can officially start on July 12, when the cast makes its final Comic-Con appearance in support of the movies.

Comic-Con International has released the schedule for the opening day of the 2012 convention. "Twilight: Breaking Dawn Part 2" will kick things off in Hall H, the biggest room at the San Diego Convention Center. The movie hits theaters in November.

Other Day 1 headliners include sessions for "Dexter," which will feature both new cast member Yvonne Strahovski ("Chuck") and a trailer for fellow Showtime series "Homeland"; USA's "Psych," featuring a peek at episodes from the coming season; and The CW's new series "Beauty and the Beast" with Kristin Kreuk.

Comic-Con 2012 is so close we can taste it! The epically badass geek convention is set to invade San Diego from July 11th to July 15th, and we can't wait to get over there and get crazy!

Comic-Con International has released the full schedules for Wednesday July 11th and Thursday July 12th, and there's a ton of stuff going on! It's going to kick off with a great first couple of days that will give you plenty of stuff to do! If you're a true video game fanatic, you have at least two televisions set up side-by-side, because how else could you watch G4's X-Play? The series is one of the most reliable sources of news, reviews and previews for video games anywhere, and on top of that, it's pretty damn entertaining to watch.

So, naturally we made sure to attend the X-Play panel at San Diego Comic-Con 2011. Here's how it went:

The panel opened with its hosts and personalities led in by a Stormtrooper and Jedi honor guard, presumably demonstrating video games' ability to bring absolutely everyone together. Like I've been saying it's never to early to start planning, and there is a ton of stuff here that we are looking forward to checking out.
