Only Murders In The Building Season 5: A "Very Different" Mafia Mystery
Image
Only Murders in the Building showrunner John Hoffman teases how season 5's mystery will be "very different" from previous seasons. The end of Only Murders in the Building season 4 saw the show's main trio discovering that the Arconia's doorman, Lester (Teddy Coluca), had been murdered.

Charles-Haden Savage (Steve Martin), Oliver Putnam (Martin Short), and Mabel Mora (Selena Gomez) were also visited by Sofia Caccimelio (Téa Leoni), who asked for help with finding her missing husband, who seemingly has ties to the mafia, and whose disappearance likely connects to Lester's death.

While speaking with Deadline, Hoffman teases how the mafia-related mystery will feel different from anything the show has done before. He also hints at how this mystery connects to the mafia's real-life power and how it will introduce a "pretty colorful" group of new characters. Check out Hoffman's comments below:

What I think we’re doing in Season 5 is very different.

‘Only Murders in the Building’s’ Martin Short and John Hoffman Preview ‘Ripped from the Headlines’ Season 5
Image
There’s another murder brewing for “Only Murders in the Building,” which will return September 9 with Season 5 on Hulu. The mystery will surround (spoiler for those not through Season 4) the Arconia’s beloved doorman, Lester, who was found dead in the courtyard fountain in the waning moments of last October’s season finale.

When we last left the terrific trio — which includes Steve Martin as Charles-Haden Savage, Selena Gomez as Mabel Mora, and the once again Emmy-nominated Martin Short as Oliver Putnam — Oliver had just married the love of his life (in the previously mentioned courtyard), the actress Loretta (Meryl Streep). As for what’s to come now or how Short might be approaching Oliver in the fifth go around, the “Three Amigos” star insisted in an interview with Deadline that he doesn’t “analyze [himself] that way.”

“I don’t sit back and say, ‘You know what I’ve done with Oliver this season…...

New Super Mario Stop-Motion Series Adaptation Announced by Nintendo
Image
While there's still nearly a year left until the franchise's big screen return, Nintendo will be bringing Super Marioto a different medium very soon. Despite being one of the most popular video game characters of all-time, the platforming plumber went a long time with very few adaptations to his name, getting a handful of animated shows throughout the '80s.

However, it would be the live-action Super Mario Bros. movie in 1993, led by Bob Hoskins and John Leguizamo, that would see Nintendo hold off on any further adaptations for decades due to its critical and commercial failings. They would eventually team with Illumination and Universal for The Super Mario Bros. Movie in 2023 with Chris Pratt voicing the character.

Though not a critical hit, the movie would set multiple box office records, including earning the Guinness World Record for the highest-grossing video game movie of all-time, and landed three Golden Globe nominations.

Stephen Colbert to Guest Star as Fictional Late Night Host on CBS Crime Series ‘Elsbeth’
Image
Stephen Colbert may be saying goodbye to “The Late Show” next year — though not by choice — but before he does that, he’ll have an entirely new late night talk show on CBS. Well, kind of.

Colbert will guest star on an episode of the CBS series “Elsbeth” next season, TheWrap has confirmed. In it, he’ll stick to what he knows, playing a fictional late night host named Scotty Bristol, who hosts “Way Late With Scotty Bristol.” It’s unclear exactly when Colbert’s episode will air, but the new season of “Elsbeth” premieres on October 12, and he has already filmed his appearance.

“Elsbeth” is a murder mystery series starring Carrie Preston as the eponymous crime-solver. It’s unclear exactly how Colbert’s character will fit into the story, but typically, the series welcomes a guest star — previously including legends like Nathan Lane, Keegan-Michael Key, Laura Benanti, Matthew Broderick,...

Stephen Colbert takes on new talk show role following The Late Show cancellation
Image
Back in July 2025, CBS announced that The Late Show with Stephen Colbert would be coming to an end after the 2025–26 season. While this left fans of the beloved talk show disappointed and uncertain about Colbert’s future in late-night, the good news is that the Emmy-winning host isn’t disappearing from television just yet.

Following news of the show's cancellation, we've learned that Colbert is stepping into a brand-new talk show role on a hit CBS police procedural. This will be his first scripted acting appearance since the cancellation announcement.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Colbert is set to appear as a guest star in the upcoming Elsbeth season 3. He will play a character named Scotty Bristol, who is the host of a fictional late-night program called Way Late With Scotty Bristol. What a perfect fit for Colbert. Although he's not playing himself, it should be an easy transition for...

Stephen Colbert Lands New Late Night Role on CBS Crime Comedy ‘Elsbeth’
Image
Late night television can’t get rid of Stephen Colbert that easily.

After it was revealed that CBS canceled the comedian’s long-running late night talk show, The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, The Hollywood Reporter learned on Sunday that Colbert has landed another hosting gig on a separate CBS show.

Colbert is set to make a guest appearance on an upcoming season three episode of the crime comedy Elsbeth, which returns Oct. 12. Vulture reported that Colbert will play the host of a fictional late night talk show called Way Late With Scotty Bristol.

Elsbeth, starring Carrie Preston, Wendell Pierce and Carra Patterson, is a murder-of-the-week show. It follows astute but unconventional attorney Elsbeth Tascioni (Preston), who utilizes her singular point of view to make unique observations and corner brilliant criminals alongside the NYPD.

Colbert’s episode was filmed this week; however, his guest appearance has been months in the making.

Stephen Colbert to Guest Star as Late-Night Host on CBS Crime Comedy ‘Elsbeth’
Image
Stephen Colbert is taking his hosting skills to another CBS property.

The “Late Show” helmsman will guest star in an upcoming episode of the crime comedy series “Elsbeth,” appearing as a late-night frontman, Variety has confirmed.

A CBS rep declined Variety‘s request for comment.

While it’s unknown how Colbert will fit into the weekly mystery, the details of his role have been made public. He will play the leading man of the fictional late-night talk show “Way Late with Scotty Bristol,” according to Vulture, which first reported Colbert’s involvement.

While the episode was filmed this week, Colbert’s “Elsbeth” role has long been in the works, kick-started by an appearance from series star Wendell Pierce on “The Late Show.”

During Pierce’s interview with Colbert, the late-night host said he had asked CBS to play a corpse on one of the network’s crime procedurals. Upon hearing this,...

Stephen Colbert Gets New CBS Late-Night Gig In Primetime With ‘Elsbeth’ Role
Image
How is this for an ironic twist — as Stephen Colbert is preparing to say goodbye as the host of CBS’ The Late Show, he also is portraying a late-night host for CBS with a guest role on the upcoming third season of the network’s crime anthology Elsbeth, Deadline has confirmed.

Colbert is not playing himself in the episode, which filmed this week. According to Vulture, which first reported the news, he plays the host of the fictional Way Late with Scotty Bristol. Each episode of Elsbeth solves a different murder; it is unclear how Bristol is connected to that case of the week.

A rep for CBS declined comment.

Primetime series take months of lead time from conceiving an episode to its filming, so Elsbeth’s late-night storyline had been in the works long before CBS announced two and a half weeks ago that The Late Show will be ending next May.

Update 31st July 2025: Writer-director Shane Black’s latest film, Play Dirty, could be heading straight to Prime Video without a cinema release. According to TheInSneider (via World of Reel), the thriller will skip cinemas altogether and appear on Amazon’s streaming service on the 1st October. Renée Zellweger's 22% Rotten Tomatoes Horror Turn With a Marvel Veteran Is Coming to Streaming Next Month
Image
Two-time Oscar winner Renée Zellweger will forever be known as rom-com royalty, from the Bridget Jones films to Jerry Maguire. However, she hasn't been afraid to wade into the waters of horror. Her roots in the genre stem all the way back to her first leading role in Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation, though arguably her most interesting spooky role would come 14 years later with the release of the star-studded supernatural thriller, Case 39. Directed by Christian Alvart, it paired Zellweger with a Bradley Cooper fresh off of The Hangover for a story centered on a seemingly sweet kid named Lilith (Jodelle Ferland) who proves to be much more than she lets on. Though it was widely panned by critics to the tune of a 22% Rotten Tomatoes score, Paramount+ subscribers will soon be able to let the twisted tale into their homes starting on August 1.

Case 39 casts Zellweger as...

HBO Max‘s film library is filled with worthwhile, great psychological thrillers. From well-known, iconic classics to underseen, forgotten films, the streamer has movies you either may not have ever heard of before or ones you have been meaning to check out for years. Case in point: Its psychological thriller collection includes the most underrated film that “Andor” creator Tony Gilroy has ever made, as well as one of the most beloved and oft-quoted movies of the 1990s.

Here are the best psychological thrillers you can stream on HBO Max in July.

“Duplicity” (Universal Pictures) “Duplicity” (2009)

“Duplicity,” writer-director Tony Gilroy‘s underrated follow-up to his acclaimed “Michael Clayton,” is an unlikely blend of paranoid corporate politics and romance. Critics Dismissed It, But Netflix’s Friends From College Has Quietly Become a Fan-Favorite Sitcom (Photo Credit – Netflix)

Netflix users are still cracking up over a sitcom that critics wrote off years ago. Eight years since it first arrived, Friends From College is back in the conversation and it is not because of a comeback, but because viewers cannot stop laughing every time they return to it.

What is Netflix’s Friends From College About?

You see there are countless examples of shows that fell flat for one group and hit home for another and interestingly, that is what’s happening here. Although the show did not appeal to the critics much, many Netflix subscribers seem to be on a completely different page as they are hooked on the show’s over the top humor and absurd friendships.

Image
Nintendo is currently hard at work on both The Super Mario Bros. Movie 2 and The Legend of ZeldaMovie, which are in various stages of production. However, another notable IP has entered Nintendo's movie cycle, as the video game company has started making its early moves to bring this project to life. Following his debut inThe Super Mario Bros. Moviein 2023, Donkey Kong might be next in line to enter the big screen.

In May 2025, Nintendo and Universal Pictures filed for copyright registration for an "untitled Donkey Kong Project" at the U.S. Copyright Office, and it is described as a "motion picture." While neither Nintendo nor Universal Pictures has made any formal announcement for Dk's film adaptation, this copyright license marks the first step toward seeing this iconic ape in theaters.

Last year, at the 76th Primetime Emmy Awards, Only Murders in the Building stars Martin Short, Selena Gomez, and Steve Martin were all nominated in their respective leading acting categories. Unfortunately, two of them have been left out of this year's race.

The nominations for the 77th Primetime Emmy Awards were announced today, with Only Murders in the Building receiving two nods, in addition to five Creative Arts Emmy nominations. Only Murders snagged a fourth consecutive nomination for Outstanding Comedy Series, while Short picked up a fourth nomination for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series, making him the only actor to have been nominated for each season of the Hulu series. The five Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Awards categories that the show received nominations in were Outstanding Production Design for a Narrative Program (Half-Hour), Outstanding Casting for a Comedy Series, Outstanding Contemporary Makeup (Non-Prosthetic), Outstanding Sound Mixing for a...

An Iconic Super Mario Bros. Character Is Getting His Own Movie After Major Development
Image
Two years after The Super Mario Bros. Movie was released and became one of the highest-grossing animated films of all time, Universal may have subtly announced that another project in this beloved Nintendo universe is on the way. The original movie premiered in 2023 and introduced audiences to Mario (Chris Pratt), Luigi (Charlie Day), and countless supporting characters from the Mushroom Kingdom.

With updates on The Super Mario Bros. Movie 2being unfortunately sparse, it seems like Universal Pictures may be focusing its attention elsewhere to expand this universe in a different direction. The studio recently acquired the film copyright for an untitled Donkey Kong movie, which could be the first of several spinoffs in Nintendo's budding movie franchise (via publicrecords.copyright.gov).

What The Donkey Kong Copyright Means For The Super Mario Franchise Donkey Kong May Be The Beginning Of A Large Franchise

The 12 Best Comedy Central Shows, Ranked
Image
The early days of cable were glorious. TV sets didn't go dark for hours at a time. Instead, people had 24-access to whatever entertainment they wanted, and this led to a proliferation of specialty channels that focused on one thing. Enter The Comedy Channel and Ha!, which focused mostly on sitcom reruns and old movies. These two channels would later merge into a single entity, Comedy Central, with a greater emphasis on original programming.

It didn't take long for the Comedy Central to find its footing and release a sizable selection of animated series, sketch comedy shows, and stand-up specials. The channel soon became the place to visit to see what emerging comedic talent was ready to break into the mainstream. Considering that comedy is subjective, it may be difficult to rank the best Comedy Central shows of all time. What's hilarious to one person can be grating to another.

It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia Season 17 Will Have A Crossover No One Saw Coming
Image
Over the course of 16 seasons, the gang from "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" have gotten up to a whole lot of ridiculous mischief on TV shows within their own series. Frank (Danny DeVito), in particular, seems to be a somewhat regular fixture on local Philadelphia news, fearmongering in order to drive up sales of guns or water filters, and he's also appeared on talk shows with Dennis (Glenn Howerton) and Dee (Kaitlin Olson) while trying to do damage control for their Wolf Cola brand. The entire gang also appeared on an episode of the "Family Feud" spoof "Family Fight," as hosted by Keegan-Michael Key (giving us his best Steve Harvey impersonation), which ended with Dennis being utterly humiliated. In season 17, however, at least one member of the gang is going to go where they've never gone before: reality television.

While we already knew season 17 was going to feature the second...

'Transformers One' Director Reveals Paramount's Decision About a Sequel to the Animated Critical Darling
Image
The world of the Transformers is a globally recognized franchise, so when Paramount decided to make the animated prequel movie, Transformers One, it stood to reason that the movie would perform well at the box office. Despite scores of 89% from critics and 97% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes, the movie ultimately didn't live up to the billing. As a result, Paramount won’t be rolling out a Transformers One sequel even though the film’s director, Josh Cooley, confirms that he has plans for future installments of the animated prequel movie.

Cooley's work saw Energon miners Orion Pax (voiced by Chris Hemsworth) and D-16 (Brian Tyree Henry) transformed into Optimus Prime and Megatron, the rival leaders of the warring Autobots and Decepticons. Theirs is a rivalry that ensues after teaming up to save Cybertron from the traitorous Sentinel Prime (Jon Hamm) and the Quintessons. Sadly, Cooley will not get to pursue his vision any further.

Fanatics Bets That Pop Culture and Star Athletes Can Take Its Festival Game to Another Level
Image
There may be only one company that could get LeBron James, Tom Brady, Kevin Costner, Spike Lee, Jay-Z, Travis Scott, NBA star Victor Wembanyama, YouTuber Kai Cenat and dozens of other high-wattage names from the worlds of sports and entertainment under one roof: Fanatics, the sports merchandise, collectible and entertainment firm founded by Michael Rubin.

And they want fans to come along too.

Fanatics is bringing back its flagship live event, Fanatics Fest, to New York City on June 20-22, and in addition to a metric ton of sports stars, the company is doubling down on artists and entertainers (hence the likes of Costner and Lee).

“It’s a heck of a challenge, I wouldn’t say it’s fun. Most of what we do is fun, I don’t consider this to be fun,” quips Rubin in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, when asked about booking the stars...
