Prime Video has released the official trailer and set a September 1, 2025 premiere date for the music-driven series The Runarounds. Outer Banks‘ Jonas Pate created the young adult drama, drawing inspiration from the real-life musicians who star in it.

The band consists of William Lipton, Axel Ellis, Jeremy Yun, Zendé Murdock, and Jesse Golliher. The cast also includes Lilah Pate, Maximo Salas, Kelley Pereira, Marley Aliah, Mark Wystrach, Brooklyn Decker, Hayes MacArthur, and Shea Pritchard.

Today, Prime Video released the official trailer for The Runarounds, which features the original song “Funny How The Universe Works” performed by the band at the center of the story.

Outer Banks creators Jonas and Josh Pate tapped real-life musicians to form a teenage rock band that features in the official trailer for Prime Video’s The Runarounds, which dropped on Thursday.

Rockers William Lipton, Axel Ellis, Jeremy Yun, Zendé Murdock and Jesse Golliher became the actors behind the teenage rock band The Runarounds at the center of the musical coming-of-age drama set to bow on Sept. 1 on the streaming platform worldwide.

Along with fellow cast members Lilah Pate, Maximo Salas, Kelley Pereira, Marley Aliah, Mark Wystrach, Brooklyn Decker, Hayes MacArthur and Shea Pritchard, the band members after high school graduation chase rock fame and success in Wilmington, North Carolina, while falling in love and partying as they pursue their dreams.

“When you see them on stage, I love passion like that,” Outer Banks star Lilah Pate, who plays Sophia Kinney in The Runarounds, says at one point in the trailer.

Netflix has confirmed that Outer Banks will end with its fifth season, which is set to come out in 2026. Filming has already started in Charleston, South Carolina, and fans have gotten their first peek at what’s coming.

The final season will bring some changes. Two actors, Cullen Moss and J. Anthony Crane, are now part of the main cast. Moss has been around since the beginning as Sheriff Shoupe. Crane, who appeared in Season 4 as Chandler Groff, JJ’s father, is also getting a bigger role. These casting changes suggest that both characters will be more important this season.

Netflix also shared two new photos from the set. The images show the remaining Pogues, but there’s a noticeable change, JJ, played by Rudy Pankow, is missing. He died at the end of Season 4, and it looks like Drew Starkey’s character, Rafe, has stepped into his place in the group.

Although JJ Maybank worked to move the storyline forward for the existing four seasons, his character arc fell flat, leaving little room for the Pogues to grow as individuals or as a group. It was often the Pogue's altercations with the Kooks — namely, Rafe Cameron (Drew Starkey) — which made for countless twists and turns as the often confounding storyline unfurled for all the characters in Season 4.

Outer Banks season 5 is already in the works, and now, we know when the cast and crew of Outer Banks will be back at work on the fifth and final season of the Netflix original series thanks to a recent interview with co-creator and executive producer Jonas Pate.
