It’s official, Goosebumps won’t be coming back for a third season. Sources told Deadline that Disney+ has canceled the horror series based on R.L. Stine’s classic books.
The show came from Disney Branded Television and Sony Pictures Television, and each season told a brand-new creepy story with a fresh cast. The second season, titled Goosebumps: The Vanishing, followed a pair of teenage siblings who stumbled onto a strange threat. As they dug deeper, they found themselves caught in a mystery about four teens who vanished back in 1994.
Unlike the original 1995 Goosebumps show, which featured a different spooky tale in each episode, this modern version told one long story over an entire season. It still brought in some of the monsters and objects from the books, but the storytelling was more serialized.

There won’t be a third season of Goosebumps on Disney+. Deadline reports that the horror anthology, inspired by R.L. Stine’s famous book series, has been canceled after just two seasons.

The second season, called Goosebumps: The Vanishing, followed teenage siblings who discovered a strange threat. Nobody likes cancellations. The word itself will make your skin crawl. But sadly, this is what we're currently faced with. In 2025, Disney+ has renewed more shows than it has canceled. In fact, the only show the streaming giant has axed was the highly anticipated Tiana series. Well, that's until now. Unfortunately, Disney+ has just given the boot to the acclaimed horror anthology Goosebumps after two thrilling seasons.
This news is a huge disappointment to fans who had hoped the spooky adaptation of R.L. Stine’s beloved books would continue to deliver chills and eerie tales. But for us, we saw it coming. The signs were there. Although both seasons 1 and 2 were received well by critics and viewers alike, it's been almost seven months since the second season's release and there’s been an unmistakable silence.

The “Goosebumps” franchise returned to the small screen in 2023 with a Disney+ series that was only loosely inspired by R.L. Stine’s classic books, and the series essentially rebooted for the second season – titled “Goosebumps: The Vanishing” – with all new characters and an all-new story. But after just two seasons, we’ve learned that “Goosebumps” has been cancelled.
Variety reports this afternoon, “According to an individual with knowledge of the situation, series producer Sony Pictures Television plans to shop the show to other outlets and explore different creative directions for the IP.” In other words, the Goosebumps property is far from dead on the small screen, but this particular take on the franchise isn’t likely to continue.
The site’s exclusive report also notes, “The two seasons pulled in 75 million hours viewed combined in the U.S., on top of 43 million hours viewed across 16 international markets.”

Disney+ is no longer feeling Goosebumps.
The streamer has canceled its Goosebumps series, based on the enduringly popular books by R.L. Stine, after two seasons. The most recent season, subtitled The Vanishing, premiered in January.
Sony Pictures TV, which owns the rights to Stine’s books and produced the series, will shop Goosebumps to other outlets and also look for other creative directions for the property. There are more than 200 stories in Stine’s original Goosebumps books, spinoff series and short story collections.
Goosebumps on Disney+ was an anthology series. The first season premiered on Disney+ in October 2023 — a few weeks before Halloween — and performed solidly, ranking among Nielsen’s top 10 original streaming series for four weeks. Season two debuted in January and didn’t do as well, never making the Nielsen charts.
To date, sources say, viewers have watched 118 million hours of Goosebumps worldwide — 75 million in the United States and 43 million in 16 international markets.

Despite garnering strong reviews and solid viewership for the streamer, Disney+ will not be moving forward with Goosebumps. The show took an anthology structure to adapting R.L. Stine's classic novel series, with season 1 following a group of high school students investigating the tragic death of a teen in the past that also leads to bizarre supernatural secrets.
Season 2, subtitled The Vanishing, subsequently shifted to twin siblings moving in with their father in New York City for the summer, only for their trip through an abandoned Fort to unleash a long-dormant evil. Each episode of the seasons incorporated certain Goosebumps stories into their serialized story, ranging from The Haunted Mask to Night of the Living Dummy and Stay Out of the Basement.

Gulliver's Travels, starring Jack Black, Emily Blunt, and Jason Segel, has found a new streaming home just in time for its 15th anniversary. The movie can now be found on Hulu.
Gulliver's Travels was among the dozens of titles added to Hulu on April 1. Per the official synopsis, the story follows "travel writer Lemuel Gulliver who takes an assignment in Bermuda, but ends up on the island of Liliput, where he towers over its tiny citizens." Rob Letterman directed the film from a screenplay by Joe Stillman and Nicholas Stoller.
Unlike the source material, the film is set in the present day and includes references to contemporary pop culture. Friends’ theme song may have been “I’ll Be There for You,” but the sitcom, more than 30 years after it premiered, has been there for several generations. One of the show’s stars, David Schwimmer, who can currently be seen in the new Hulu/Disney+ series, Goosebumps: The Vanishing, says that three decades later he still realizes how meaningful the show is to him and to the fans.
“What’s really meaningful to me is when I’ll bump into someone on the street and they’ll say, ‘I just want you to know, I was going through a really tough time, I was in the hospital,’ whatever. ‘And the thing that kept me going was watching Friends,” Schwimmer told GamesRadar+. For Manish Raval and Tom Wolfe, the duo behind Goosebumps: The Vanishing’s music supervision, playing in the sandbox of ’90s music is an opportunity to channel their childhoods. “It’s our soft spot,” Raval tells The Hollywood Reporter.
That connection and appreciation both music supervisors have for the turn of the century’s endless library of hits is particularly useful in the Disney+ and Sony Television Studios series, which taps into R.L. Stines’ younger Gen X, Millennial and ‘90s-adjacent Gen Z audience via the show’s multiple timelines.
“Going into Goosebumps, there wasn’t really a direction or specific vision in mind. We just knew we had a popular book series to support,” Raval says. “But we did know that we wanted to jump back and forth with time periods and that a lot of that story would be anchored in the music. So when we would jump back to the ’90s,...

Warning: This article contains Spoilers for Goosebumps (2023) and Goosebumps: The Vanishing
Although Goosebumps: The Vanishing’s ending is more self-contained than the finale of its predecessor, the show still keeps a frustrating anthology trend alive. 2023’s Goosebumps reboot was a fun blend of teen drama and horror comedy that saw a group of teenagers battle against supernatural forces in the small town of Port Lawrence. Goosebumps season 1’s finale left the show’s hero in critical condition in a hospital after an encounter with the villain of the series, and this cliffhanger was left unresolved. However, Goosebumps: The Vanishing didn’t pick up where season 1 left off.

“Goosebumps” returned for its second season on Hulu and Disney+ January 10 — and even for an anthology series, the new season felt worlds away from the creepy haunted house aesthetic of Season 1. Sorry, Slappy: “Goosebumps: The Vanishing” 2 is all about body horror.
Well, not just body horror. But as twin teen New Yorkers CeCe and Devin discover, investigating a haunted fort from their botanist father’s traumatic childhood doesn’t typically end well. Although their dad (played by David Schwimmer) might be the one who learns that lesson most thoroughly when one sneeze dislodges his eyeball. David Schwimmer brought his own corny dad jokes for his botanist character in “Goosebumps: The Vanishing,” the second season of the Disney+ and Hulu series inspired by R.L. Stine’s iconic stories.
For example, the punny plant joke that makes his teenage kids on the show — Devin (Sam McCarthy) and Cece (Jayden Bartels) — wince the hardest is, “What plant should you watch out for? An ambush.”
Showrunner Rob Letterman told TheWrap in a recent interview, “He did a deep dive on, ‘Ok, botanist. Bad dad jokes. Bad dad plant jokes.'”

The second season of Goosebumps recently began airing on Disney+ and Hulu, and the show has taken on an anthology format which follows entirely new characters. The show's executive producers recently shared the reasoning for not continuing the first season's story.
The second season of the anthology series, titled Goosebumps: The Vanishing, adapts R.L. Stine's Stay Out of the Basement -- a very different story than the first season's plot about five high schoolers investigating the decades-old death of a teen named Harold Biddle. Speaking with ComicBook.com, Goosebumps: The Vanishing executive producer Rob Letterman discussed the choice to have the show be an anthology -- especially after season one's massive cliffhanger finale.

All eight episodes of Goosebumps: The Vanishing made their debut on Disney+ last week, and fans hoping for some answers to that cliffhanger Season 1 ending were left in the lurch as the series took a drastic turn. Instead of picking up where the freshman season left off, Goosebumps completely switched its format into an anthology show, meaning each season focuses on a new story and a different crop of characters. Once more, Season 2 ended with a cliffhanger that saw Trey (Stony Blyden) coughing up an alien slug, and when it comes to all the burning questions fans have, executive producer Rob Letterman is in no hurry to provide answers.

Plot: Begins with fraternal twins Devin and Cece adjusting to life with their recently divorced dad, Anthony. When the duo discovers a threat stirring, they quickly realize that dark secrets are among them, triggering a chain of events that unravel a profound mystery.
Review: Growing up, I was slightly too old to enjoy Goosebumps. While I was graduating from Christopher Pike novels and R.L. Stine’s Fear Street series to the more mature novels of Stephen King, tons of kids entered the gateway horror of Stine’s fun brand of scary stories to tell in the dark. The anthology series was a hit with kids looking for a good scare, and the big-screen films starring Jack Black amped up the comedy for a big-budget adventure. Disney+ and Hulu’s reboot of the franchise was a successful, scary take on the source material back in 2023, and this year’s sophomore entry is equally good.

Devin gets close to outgoing delivery boy C.J. and sweet-tempered, shy girl Frankie. But his rapport with Frankie threatens Trey, Devin's belligerent neighbor. An ill-advised dare then leads the whole group back to the scene of a 30-year-old mystery -- and unleashes a new round of horrors.

While the horror genre continues to evolve onscreen, the stories of R.L. Stine are spooking audiences of a whole new generation.
In Sony Pictures Television‘s Goosebumps: The Vanishing, Season 2 of the Disney+ anthology adaptation from Rob Letterman and Nicholas Stoller, the author’s works come to life onscreen once again in a whole new setting, the Gravesend neighborhood of Brooklyn.
“I’m shocked by it,” Stine told Deadline. “I have a superstition. I grew up in Columbus, Ohio, in a suburb, so most of the Goosebumps books take place in the backyard, a suburban backyard, which I think most kids can identify with.”
Still, the beloved children’s book scribe says the new season of Goosebumps “looks nice” after filming in Brooklyn and Queens.

Rob Letterman and Hilary Winston are taking their R.L. Stine-based hit show in a new direction with Goosebumps: The Vanishing. Letterman, whose history with the franchise goes back to directing the 2015 Jack Black-led movie adaptation of the horror novels, co-developed the show with Nicholas Stoller, whose filmography ranges from helming the fan-favorite comedy Forgetting Sarah Marshall to co-creating and directing the acclaimed Apple TV+ comedy show Platonic. Winston, whose producorial career took off with My Name is Earl, was a co-showrunner with Letterman and Stoller on season 1 and is now sole showrunner on the new season.

Prolific author R.L. Stine scared a generation of children into loving the horror genre with his “Goosebumps” book series. In the years since he released his first young adult novel in the early 1990s and became a staple of Scholastic Book Fairs, that initial audience has grown to have kids of their own to share the spooky stories with. And not only has the franchise expanded to include an impressive collection of thrilling literary tales, but there are also films and TV shows that are bringing the brand to all-new audiences.
In late 2023, Rob Letterman and Nicholas Stoller brought their version of “Goosebumps” to life on Disney+ and Hulu. Viewers, it is time once again to beware…
A little more than a year has passed since R.L. Stine’s monstrous creations once again took root on our television screens, this time manifesting as a dark, aged-up departure from the franchise’s sugary hued history. Combining classic Goosebumps lore with modern thrills and a grounded approach that allowed the heightened frights and characterizations to reclaim some of what made them so terrifying to young readers in the first place, the new show aimed to forge a fresh and frightening path to the franchise for newcomers and longtime acolytes alike.
With new season Goosebumps: The Vanishing, the show returns to screens once more. Staying ever true to its roots, Goosebumps: The Vanishing is an entirely new story of the grander anthology series that maintains the more mature and grounded tonalities that so strikingly differentiated the previous season from what had come before.

Goosebumps: The Vanishing will feature a fresh cast in a new creepy story. But that doesn't mean the characters from Season 1 are gone forever.
Speaking to The Direct, producer Rob Letterman said that Isaiah, Margot, James, Isabella, Lucas, and Mr. Nathan Bratt could return at some point. "If I say we will never go back, then that'll probably trigger the opposite thing," he explained. "I really don't know about anything. Yeah, you never say never for stuff like that. You know, anything's possible. And one of the great things about Goosebumps is, you know, R.L Stein did circle back a few times to a couple things [like] Slappy for instance."

Disney+ brought R.L. Stine's classic young adult horror anthology Goosebumps back to TV screens, revamping it for a new generation of horror fans. Now Season 2 aims to startle audiences all over again, with Friends star David Schwimmer in the lead.

The Goosebumps franchise has an enduring appeal because it straddles the line between nostalgic comfort and childhood fears. Since it began in the early 1990s, the series based on R.L. Stine’s popular stories has undergone dramatic change. Goosebumps was first a way for young readers to get into horror books, and now, with Goosebumps: The Vanishing, it has found a place in modern TV.
The narrative shifts to Gravesend, Brooklyn, for the second season, where teenage twins Devin and Cece Brewer are dealing not only with the ghosts of their past but also with a terrifying supernatural presence that threatens to consume their summer.
Rob Letterman, Nicholas Stoller, and showrunner Hilary Winston are in charge of this revival. They skillfully weave together a tapestry of suspense and youthful exploration. With its anthology format, this season connects to the Goosebumps universe’s rich mythology while allowing for a new narrative each time.

Fans of R.L. Stine have even more to be thankful for this year, as not only is a new Fear Street movie debuting on Netflix, but the author himself has just confirmed that there are at least three more films in development. Goosebumps: The Vanishing promises to include more than a few scares when Season 2 of the anthology series premieres on Disney+. However, David Schwimmer, who will lead an all-new cast, recently revealed that his biggest fear comes from real life.
"What gives me goosebumps in real life, not watching a movie or something, is when you are looking for your car at night in an underground parking lot, and you suddenly have that moment of, 'I don't know where my car is, and I'm utterly alone in this parking lot,'" Schwimmer told GamesRadar+. "I hope I'm not the only person who's experienced that. But then you hear some sound, but you don't know where it came from, and then you're just like, 'Oh, Ok; I hope I find my car.'"
