‘Bring Her Back’ Teaser: Sally Hawkins Sacrifices Her Foster Kids in ‘Talk to Me’ Directors’ Latest
Image
After helming one of the biggest box office hits out of the 2024 Sundance Film Festival, “Talk to Me” co-directors Danny and Michael Philippou are back with another Aussie-set horror film, “Bring Her Back.” And this time, they’re getting a boost from Oscar winner Sally Hawkins.

“Bring Her Back,” which was announced in 2024, stars Hawkins as a foster mother who undergoes a “terrifying ritual” in front of her two foster children. Billy Barratt and Sora Wong play the siblings who may or may not be sacrificed…or possessed. Jonah Wren Phillips, Sally-Anne Upton, Stephen Phillips, and Mischa Heywood also star.

The official logline reads: “A brother and sister uncover a terrifying ritual at the secluded home of their new foster mother.”

The Philippou brothers co-direct the film, which was co-written by Danny Philippou and Bill Hinzman. The feature is produced by Causeway Films’ Samantha Jennings and Kristina Ceyton (“The Babadook...

David Cronenberg Refused to Direct 'Flashdance' When Asked by Jerry Bruckheimer
Image
Sometimes directors lament over the projects they never got to make, but David Cronenberg - best known for body horror classics The Fly, Videodrome, and Scanners - revealed a film producers desperately wanted him to make, but which he knowingly and proudly turned down, not because he didn't like the script but because he knew he just wasn't the right man for the job.

The film in question? Flashdance, the 1983 feel-good romantic dance drama about a young woman (Jennifer Beals) making ends meet as a welder and an exotic dancer who dreams of joining a prestigious ballet academy. It's an odd pairing to be sure, but as Cronenberg told Variety at the Marrakech Film Festival, the production team of Don Simpson and Jerry Bruckheimer pursued the director relentlessly. He said:

"You might be amazed [they] were totally convinced that I was the right one to direct. Really, I don’t know...

The brother duo of Danny and Michael Philippou are gearing up for their next horror film with A24 following the success of their debut feature, Talk to Me, with the independent studio. While a Talk To Me sequel is in the works, the pair will team up once again on a new original horror film and they're bringing actress Sally Hawkins along with them.

Per Deadline, Hawkins will headline Bring Her Back, the latest horror effort from the Philippou Brothers. Plot details are very scarce at the moment, but production is expected to start this summer,...

Flashdance Star Jennifer Beals Reveals That Her Iconic Look Was Accidental
Image
Flashdance not only left its mark on cinema, but also on 80s fashion, unintentionally creating a legendary look with Jennifer Beals' cutoff sweatshirt. The iconic film is now set to be adapted into a television series, led by Dear White People creator Justin Simien, bringing the story into the modern era. Simien's successful track record and storytelling ability make him a great choice to revive Flashdance, adding to Paramount+'s lineup of classic reboots.

Flashdance not only marked an era for cinema, but also for fashion, exposing the best of 80s clothing. However, it seems that one of its protagonist's most characteristic looks was, in fact, an accident. Released in 1983, the film directed by Adrian Lyne is considered a classic of the 80s. The story centers on a young aspiring dancer named Alex, who dreams of being a successful artist. However, her reality is very different. By day, she works in a metallurgical welder,...

Secret Talk To Me Prequel Filmed Before A24 Movie's Release, Directors Talk "Thick" Mythology
Image
Where to Watch Powered by Talk to Me directors have already filmed a prequel focusing on the character Duckett and his experiences with the embalmed hand. The prequel is filmed entirely through the perspective of mobile phones and social media, potentially adding to the movie's terror. If the prequel is released, it could give Talk to Me a larger backstory and establish that the franchise is willing to be more experimental in its filmmaking style.

Talk to Me directors Danny and Michael Philippou revealed they've already shot a prequel to their hit A24 horror movie. Talk to Me follows Mia (Sophie Wilde) and her friends using an embalmed hand to communicate with spirits. While the supernatural movie focuses on Mia and her group, the film's opening introduces a character named Cole (Ari McCarthy) and his brother Duckett (Sunny Johnson).

Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, the Philippou brothers said they've already...

Talk to Me Directors Have Already Shot a Prequel & Written Scenes for a Sequel
Image
Filmmakers Danny and Michael Philippou have already shot a prequel to their hit horror film Talk to Me. The prequel is told entirely through mobile phones and social media. The Philippou brothers wanted complete creative control and independence for Talk to Me, so they chose to make the film independently.

While speaking to The Hollywood Reporter about their new hit horror film, Talk to Me, filmmakers Danny and Michael Philippou revealed that they've already shot a prequel focusing on Duckett (one of the two character's from the movie's cold open). When asked about the possibility of a sequel or a Duckett prequel, Michael replied:

"We actually shot an entire Duckett prequel already. It's told entirely through the perspective of mobile phones and social media, so maybe down the line we can release that. But also while writing the first film, you can't help but write scenes for a second film.

Talk To Me Prequel Film Based On Opening Scene Has Already Been Shot
Image
In the spirit of fellow A24 horror filmmaker Ti West, "Talk To Me" directors Danny and Michael Philippou have just revealed to The Hollywood Reporter (via Bloody Disgusting) that they already have a whole prequel to their new hit movie locked and loaded. The filmmaking siblings behind the terrifying new seance flick told THR that they've already completely shot a screen life movie about the first possessed character audiences meet in the movie, Sunny Johnson's Duckett.

"We actually shot an entire Duckett prequel already," Danny Philippou told the outlet. "It's told entirely through the perspective of mobile phones and social media, so maybe down the line we can release that." It's unclear at this point whether the film is another feature or a short, but it sounds like it'll follow in the footsteps of movies like "Unfriended" and "Searching" by telling poor, doomed Duckett's full story through on-screen media.

Image
A few days ago, we shared a snippet of a Hollywood Reporter interview with Danny and Michael Philippou, the directors of the Australian horror film Talk to Me (read our review at This Link, watch our interview with the directors in the embed above), in which they said they wouldn’t be able to resist making a sequel if they are given the opportunity. Now The Hollywood Reporter has revealed an even more exciting bit of news: the Philippou brothers have already filmed a prequel to Talk to Me!

‘Talk To Me’ Filmmakers on Their Breakout Horror Hit and the Prequel They’ve Already Shot
Image
From high jinks on YouTube to the high-brow slate of A24, Danny and Michael Philippou’s origin story is about as 2023 as it gets.

The twin Australian brothers began making homemade horror movies at the age of nine, and in 2013, they took things a step further by creating their YouTube channel, RackaRacka, which now sports nearly 7 million subscribers. The Philippous’ videos featured the usual antics of those who grew up on WWE, Jackass and genre movies, but they always contained a number of flourishes that pointed to the brothers’ greater aspirations as filmmakers.

Eventually, the brothers Philippou were inspired by their friend Daley Pearson’s short film about possession as a means to get high, and out of that, Talk to Me was born. Having worked on local Australian movie sets such as The Babadook (2014), the twins made use of their connections at Causeway Films and approached founders Kristina Ceyton and Samantha Jennings.

Talk to Me Ending and Meaning Explained
Image
This article contains Talk to Me spoilers.

In the new paranormal pop culture film Talk To Me, which opens on July 28, a group of Australian teens discover a new kind of high in communing with the dead, by briefly allowing possession of their bodies via an embalmed hand of mysterious origin that serves as a gateway. There are rules to be followed with the spirit communication, and when those are broken, the character Mia (Sophie Wilde) learns the dead are not content with a temporary pass into the realm of the living.

Directed by Danny and Michael Philippou, the A24 film shifts the teen horror setting from slumber parties filled with Blood Mary dares and Ouija board dabbling to high school parties filled with booze, and, well, boos—all documented by social media. Meanwhile the film examines the lingering wound that is Mia’s grief over her mother’s lethal overdose,...
