Exclusive: Scott Bakula will return to the New York stage this winter in an Off Broadway, world premiere production of the new musical The Connector, conceived and directed by Daisy Prince with music and lyrics by Tony winner Jason Robert Brown (Parade) and a book by Jonathan Marc Sherman.

A production of the acclaimed Off Broadway non-profit company McC Theater, The Connector will begin performances at McC Theater’s Newman Mills Theater on January 12, 2024, with an opening night set for February 6. The limited engagement will run through February 18, 2024.

Set in the rapidly changing media and magazine worlds of the late 1990s (the title refers to a revered publication), The Connector also will feature choreography by Karla Puno Garcia, co-choreographer of the Broadway-found Days of Wine and Roses.

Film and theater Producer Marc Platt and wife Julie have made a $1 million gift to McC Theater, one of Off Broadway’s leading not-for-profit companies, for the development and production of new musicals, McC announced today.

Named for Marc Platt’s late, theater-loving uncle, The Gary Platt Musical Initiative will begin its intended mission immediately for the 2019-20 season. The initiative will support new musicals over the course of five programming seasons.

Ghostlight Records has announced that the new musical cast album Alice By Heart is available for digital download and streaming today Friday, June 28. The CD release is planned for later this year. Multi-platinum songwriter Ross Golan, who has penned hits for a lengthy, cross-genre roster of artists including Ariana Grande, Maroon 5, Justin Bieber, Nicki Minaj, Lady Antebellum, and Keith Urban, will tackle new turf in September with the Off Broadway world premiere of his stage musical The Wrong Man.

The musical, to be directed by Hamilton director Thomas Kail, will begin previews Sept. 18 at the nonprofit McC Theater’s new Robert W. Wilson McC Theater Space in Manhattan’s Hells Kitchen neighborhood. The limited engagement closes Oct. 27.

The musical, with book, music and lyrics by Golan, will follow the release (date Tba) of a concept album on Interscope Records and the Tribeca Film Festival world premiere on April 27 of an animated film based on the album and directed by Golan and John Hwang. Ghostlight Records has announced it will record a cast album of the new musical Alice By Heart. The show's current New York premiere production from McC Theater Robert LuPone, Bernard Telsey, William Cantler, Artistic Directors Blake West, Executive Director was recently extended through April 7. Alice By Heart has a book by Steven Sater and Jessie Nelson music by Duncan Sheik, lyrics by Steven Sater, and direction by Jessie Nelson. Choreography is by Rick and Jeff Kuperman. The album - produced by Duncan Sheik and Kurt Deutsch, with Craig Balsam and Cody Lassen serving as executive producers - is being recorded March 24-25.
