Samuel L. Jackson Had a Wonderfully Weird Reason for Wanting to Do Spiral
Image
At this point in his career, Samuel L. Jackson must have made enough money from Star Wars, the MCU, and his innumerable other hit films to retire comfortably. But Jackson continues to work regularly, showing up in the most unexpected places, such as the recently-released Spiral: From the Book of Saw. The director of the movie, Darren Lynn Bousman, revealed to CinemaBlend that Jackson had a particular reason for doing the film, and it had to do with a particularly gory scene in which his character is strung from the ceiling like a marionette with the blood being drained from his body via tubes.

"I asked him. I go, 'Why would you do this movie? I mean, you've got a million offers. We're not making your quote.' And he goes, 'Any time that I can do an insane sequence that I've never done before, such as being a marionette and (hanging) up there?...

Spiral Director Envisions a Marvel-Style Cinematic Universe for the Saw Franchise
Image
The Saw franchise that started in 2004 had a pretty unique take on slasher horror, depicting a serial killer known as Jigsaw who lures his victims into elaborate traps that can be escaped from at the cost of a heavy price. The Saw franchise has always revolved around Jigsaw and his disciples. This news originated at https://bloody-disgusting.com/interviews/3665581/marvelverse-franchise-darren-bousman-sees-saw-going-next-exclusive/|Bloody Disgusting.

But the recently-released Spiral: From the Book of Saw looks to shake things up with a new killer who is inspired by Jigsaw, but has no personal connection to him. The director of Spiral: From the Book of Saw, Darren Lynn Bousman, who also directed three Saw movies, explained how Spiral: From the Book of Saw prompted a new interest within him in the world of the Jigsaw Killer.

"I have found a renewed interest in the Saw universe. I thought that it was played out and I had done everything I could.

Watch the Spiral: From the Book of Saw 3-Minute Opening Scene and Its First Deadly Trap
Image
One unfortunate soul has a very painful choice to make in the opening scene for Spiral: From the Book of Saw. Officially, the Saw sequel is set to make its premiere on May 14. Ahead of the premiere, Lionsgate has released a clip of the movie's opening scene, and the footage introduces us to the Jigsaw copycat killer that serves as the new antagonist - as well as their first victim. You can watch the scene below.

In the scene, a detective heads through a dark corridor apparently in pursuit of someone. He clearly doesn't realize he's walking directly into a Saw movie, but fans of the franchise will see the telltale signs soon enough. If the abductor in a pig mask isn't a dead giveaway, the contraption the poor guy finds himself trapped in after he wakes up certainly will be. Suspended on a subway track, the detective's only chance...

Chris Rock Teases His Saw Fate and Spiral 2 Possibilities
Image
One of the most unexpected casting choices in Hollywood in recent times was when Chris Rock was announced as the lead for Spiral: From the Book of Saw. The movie takes place in the same universe as the iconic horror series Saw, but focuses on a new cast of characters. In an interview with ComicBook.com, Rock affirmed that his character will survive the first movie by stating his willingness to appear in the sequel.

"[The studio and I are] talking. We want this one to do well, so we don't want to get too ahead of ourselves, but, if this one does well, I could see myself doing this again. I could see ... I mean, I don't want to spoil the movie, but it's open ... another one wouldn't be out of the question."

New Spiral TV Spot and Poster Tease Twisted Traps for Longtime Saw Fans
Image
Spiral: From the Book of Saw is the upcoming spinoff movie that takes place in the Saw franchise universe, but with a whole new cast of characters. Today, we get a new poster featuring Chris Rock, and a TV spot that teastes some of the twisted games coming our way. Spiral director Darren Lynn Bousman had previously directed three Saw sequels before leaving the series. In an interview with ComicBook.com, Bousman affirmed that the new movie will feature many of the same macabre traps and even a puppet, like in the Saw movies, but tell its own story, which we see evidence of in this latest footage.

"The DNA of the movie comes from the universe of Saw, no doubt, but it's its own thing. I love the world and script that Josh [Stolberg], Pete [Goldfinger], and Chris Rock created here. It feels familiar, yet it's completely unique and different from what has come before it.

‘Spiral’ Trailer: Chris Rock and Samuel L. Jackson Resurrect the ‘Saw’ Horror Franchise
Image
The “Saw” horror franchise is coming back for a ninth go-round on the big screen with the upcoming “Spiral,” starring Chris Rock and Samuel L. Jackson. Rock came up with the idea himself for this reimagining, the new trailer for which suggests the “Saw” movies are heading away from their gore-obsessed horror roots and into serial killer territory a la David Fincher’s “Seven.”

Max Minghella, Marisol Nichols, and Zoie Palmer co-star in the movie. “Spiral” is directed by franchise veteran Darren Lynn Bousman, who wrote and directed 2005’s “Saw II” and helmed sequels “Saw III” and “Saw IV.” The script was penned by “Jigsaw” writers Josh Stolberg and Peter Goldfinger.

Lionsgate’s official synopsis for “Spiral” reads: “A criminal mastermind unleashes a twisted form of justice in Spiral, the terrifying new chapter from the book of Saw. Working in the shadow of his father, an esteemed police veteran (Samuel L.

Pure's Alex Paxton-Beesley Q & A: Her Steely Character, an Impossible Decision, and Changes in Her World
Being a single parent is difficult enough for any woman.

But when Pure Season 2 opens at 10 p.m. Tuesday, May 29, Anna Funk faces her own special challenges.

Throughout Pure Season 1, Anna and her husband, Mennonite Pastor Noah Funk (played by Ryan Robbins), sought to bring down a Mexican drug-smuggling ring which was plaguing their Ontario community by going undercover.

Noah was the heart of that operation, but Anna was the brains.

Things didn't go as planned. Noah's drug-addict brother Abel was shot and left to die in the Mexican desert.

To save his foster son Ezekiel, Noah shot and killed Eli Voss, the cartel boss, on Pure Season 1 Episode 6. Then, feeling that he had violated the church's tenets, he left the community and his family.

Anna was excommunicated by the church. Forced to sell their farm, Anna and her children, Tina and Isaak, move to town and they make a meager living by cleaning houses.

Pure Season 2: Sneak Peek
Pure Season 2, debuting May 28 on Wgn America, can best be summed up by The Who lyric "Come meet the new boss same as the old boss."

Pure Season 1, which aired earlier this year, told the gritty tale of Mennonite Pastor Noah Funk, who went undercover with the goal of exposing the Mennonite mob which was running drugs from Mexico to Canada.

Once she found out what her naive husband was attempting, Noah's steely wife Anna also got involved in his well-intentioned effort to bring down mob boss Eli Voss.

They were aided in the investigation by disgraced local cop Bronco Novak, who dated Anna and picked on Noah while all three attended the local high school. The dynamic among the trio was one of the first-season highlights.

Noah ended up shooting and killing Voss to protect his adopted son Ezekiel. The season ended with him leaving the Mennonite community and...

Wynonna Earp Season 3 Episode 5 Review: Jolene
On Wynonna Earp Season 3 Episode 5, Purgatory is sent into a frenzy by Jolene, breaking friendships and wreaking havoc between the reunited Earps.

It's a messy episode that tries to make up for the confusion in its fun factor, hinging entirely upon the dramatic irony served through Jolene, which none of the characters realize is the demon they are searching for.

The Jolene/Waverly and Jolene/Nicole scenes are particularly harrowing, allowing Dominique Provost-Chalkley, Katherine Barrell, and Zoie Palmer to shine.

Jolene breaking the close bond between Waverly and Nicole is also heartbreaking, but it's made up with a warming WayHaught scene at the end of the episode.

Waverly really is getting the short end of the stick this season, but it allows the show to dive into grittier and realistic territory without hinging upon horror. Rather, the darker aspects come from horrors that are based in reality.

You tell Waverly...

Dark Matter Season 2 Episode 10 Review: Take the Shot
There are only three more episodes remaining in this season, and the tension definitely started to ramp up even more in Dark Matter Season 2 Episode 10 as a computer virus wreaked havoc on the Raza and her crew.

Zoie Palmer was the true star of this episode, and, boy oh boy, did she get a lot to do.

She played three distinct roles in this episode: The Android, The Android in the dream world, and The Hologram.

I truly enjoyed the initially subtle ways in which The Hologram attempted to undermine both the crew's confidence in The Android and The Android's confidence in herself and the crew.

I am of the opinion that the dream world itself was being manipulated by the Mikkei virus; note how dream-Victor kept trying to distance The Android from her human crew, encouraging her to abandon them and find real-Victor.

Ultimately, of course, The Android rejected...

Syfy Renews Dark Matter and Killjoys!
Syfy has finally found a winning combination for Friday nights.

Today the network announced it will be renewing both Dark Matter and Killjoys for an additional season.

This news come just as the programs are ending the runs of their current seasons.

The Killjoys Season 2 finale will air tomorrow night, and in the words of our reviewer, Hank Otero, "Mind Blown!!!"

It certainly doesn't sound like you're going to want to miss Killjoys Season 2 Episode 10, "How to Kill Friends and Influence People."

Dark Matter will air a double episode on Friday, September 9, and its finale on Friday, September 16.

Dark Matter follows the story of a crew full of amnesiacs who found themselves on a derelict ship in the middle of nowhere.

With no idea how they got there or who they were, they have worked together calling each other numbered names to survive a voyage filled with betrayal and secrets.

Dark Matter Season 2 Episode 5 Review: We Voted Not to Space You
There were so many great lines and moments on Dark Matter Season 2 Episode 5, it was hard to get them all down. Plus one case of revenge that was simultaneously satisfying... yet not very satisfying at all.

The cold open with the Android at the bar was really not as shocking or surprising or even all that startling as I think it was meant to be; after all, we left her at the end of the previous episode clutching that upgrade.

In the end, this story turned out to be less about the Android and her upgrade than it did about One, despite One being, well, dead.

Don't get me wrong, seeing the Android take on the entire bar was pretty awesome, but in a crew with nanite-enhanced Two, sword-master Four, and prescient Nyx, I already miss the Android's semi-innocent state.

The heart-to-heart between the Android and the Hologram only reinforced this for me.

Dark Matter Season 2 Episode 3 Review: I've Seen the Other Side of You
If any of you were ever wondering what Two, Three, or Four were like before the amnesia, Dark Matter Season 2 Episode 3 hopefully answered some of your questions.

While the technical reasons that resulted in their reverse-amnesia didn't really make sense to me, I did appreciate this window into their pasts. Plus, it gave Five a real chance to shine.

Curiously, one of the first things that happened after the rather chilling cold open was Three walking in on Two attempting to drown her sorrows over the death of One.

Three: Those nanites of yours, they keep you from gettin' drunk, too?

Two: Yeah, I think they might.

Three: Well, guess there's a downside to everything, right?

Permalink: Well, guess there's a downside to everything, right? Added: July 15, 2016

This particular exchange is extremely reminiscent of the one between Steve Rogers and Peggy Carter in Captain America: The First Avenger after Steve's...

Dark Matter Season 2 Episode 1 Review: Welcome to Your New Home
Welcome, fans of Dark Matter!

It is my pleasure to serve as reviewer this season; I confess that I only got into this series when I spotted it on Netflix during its hiatus, but it really appealed to the Firefly fan in me. So let's get this show on the road and turn our attention to the season premiere!

Dark Matter Season 2 Episode 1 picked up not too long after the Dark Matter Season 1 finale left off, with Six revealed as an undercover cop for the Galactic Authority and subsequently betraying the crew of the Raza. The hits did not stop there with that revelation, however.

I do want to point out the silliness of the opening with Two, Three, Four, and the others standing in the doorway in their underwear, gazing out into the common area of the prison. Fan service aside, it looked pretty absurd as they all stood there frozen,...

Promos For New Seasons Of Dark Matter And Killjoys Released
Although many of our favorite shows are about to take a few months off, that doesn’t mean your TV will become obsolete during the summertime. SyFy intends to heat things up with the release of two trailers promoting the sophomore seasons of Dark Matter and Killjoys.

I admit that it’s not often I become addicted to a summer series, but I found myself pleasantly surprised when Dark Matter effectively entralled me with its intrigue, space exploration, and great characters that were just as unaware of who they were as the viewer was. With the team having been betrayed from within during the first season’s finale, I expect the new dynamic added to extend the scope of what’s been established.

In addition to the promo video, which can be viewed at the top, SyFy has released an official synopsis that provides insight into the coming season as...
