'House of the Dragon' Season 3 Finally Casts Alysanne Blackwood
Image
House of the DragonSeason 3 has finally cast one of the "most fierce" warriors from George R. R. Martin's best-selling work. As filming for the highly-anticipated third season of the Game of Thrones prequel continues, it has now been revealed who will be playing a legendary character from the saga.

Deadline reports that Annie Shapero (Red Skies) has been cast as Alysanne Blackwood in House of the Dragon Season 3. She will not be a series regular, but is expected to appear in five episodes of the upcoming season. The character plays a key role in Fire & Blood, so fans of the book have been waiting for the casting for quite some time. Details remain scarce on the upcoming season, but Shapero will make her debut as Alysanne when House of the Dragon returns to HBO sometime in 2026.

Alysanne "Black Aly" Blackwood is an important character from Fire & Blood, and could...

Soldiers assemble as House of the Dragon films the First Battle of Tumbleton
Image
Filming on the third season of House of the Dragon has been going on for a while now, and we've gotten looks at some very impressive stuff. For a long time, we watched as they filmed the Battle of the Gullet, a major naval clash that will very likely air in the season 3 premiere. Filming on that has finally wrapped up, and the cast and crew have moved right onto the First Battle of Tumbleton, a major land clash that will feature towards the end of the season.

If you've read George R.R. Martin's book Fire & Blood, you know what happens at Tumbleton. I won't reveal specific spoilers, but the gist is that Tumbleton is a town in the Reach, about 200 miles southwest of King's Landing. The town was mentioned in season 2 by Kat (Ellora Torchia), the wife of newly minted dragonrider Hugh Hammer (Kieran Bew). Kat wanted to...

Check out spectacular new sets for House of the Dragon season 3
Image
The cast and crew of House of the Dragon are very hard at work filming the third season, and we've gotten an eyeful lately. In particular, they've recently spent a lot of time filming a major action sequence called the Battle of the Gullet, which should kick off season 3 when it drops sometime in 2026. But Westeros is at war, and there's more than one battle in our future.

To wit: @housethedragons brings us new photos of a set going up at Leavesden Studios in England. This is the town of Tumbleton, which we heard about briefly in season 2. Kat (Ellora Torchia), who's married to newly minted dragonrider Hugh Hammer (Kieran Bew), mentioned wanting to flee there rather than stay in their home in King's Landing, since things there were getting increasingly unstable. The crew has been building the Tumbleton set for a long while, and it now looks pretty much...

House of the Dragon season 3 set pics: Characters gather after big battle
Image
HBO is currently filming the third season of House of the Dragon, and we're getting a close-up view of a lot of the action. Tons of reports and set pics have been leaking lately as the show films on location in Wales and England, and the flood hasn't stopped. Beware Spoilers beyond this point!

A lot of the on-location filming in Wales has involved the Battle of the Gullet, a huge naval battle that was originally supposed to serve as the climax to the second season of the show. It's now been pushed to the start of the third; expect to see it in the premiere episode.

The Battle of the Gullet involves a clash between a fleet led by Corlys Velaryon (Steve Toussaint) on the one side and a fleet captained by Sharako Lohar (Abigail Thorn) on the other; Corlys fights for Queen Rhaenyra and Lohar on behind of her rival King Aegon II.

Report: Unexpected characters meet in House of the Dragon season 3
Image
The cast and crew of House of the Dragon are currently filming the third season of HBO's Game of Thrones prequel series as we speak, and we're getting lots of interesting reports as cameras roll in Wales. And a new one may be the most curious yet.

According to sources at House the Dragons, a Twitter/X account that has regluarly published on-set photos, an unlikely quartet of characters will meet up early in season 3. Three of the characters already know each other: Addam of Hull (Clinton Liberty), Ulf White (Tom Bennett) and Hugh Hammer (Kieran Bew), three peasants who became newly minted dragon-riders in season 2, all of them now in service to Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen. It's no surprise that they'll hang out together. What's surprising is that, according to House the Dragons, they'll share a scene with Alys Rivers (Gayle Rankin), the witch woman Daemon Targaryen got to know...

One of the best House of the Dragon moments was improvised by the cast
Image
"The Red Sowing" is one of the best episodes of House of the Dragon thus far. The climax comes when dozens of "dragonseeds" — Targaryen bastard children who live as peasants — come to Dragonstone at the invitation of Rhaenyra Targaryen for a chance to claim a dragon for themselves, so long as they fight for Rhaenyra in her war to take the Iron Throne. Claiming a dragon is dangerous business, but whoever does it will basically be set for life. Worth it, right? Watch the scene below and tell me if you still think so:

Most of the dragonseeds get torn apart by the dragons they're trying to tame. One of the few exceptions is Hugh Hammer (Kieran Bew), who is out point of contact throughout this scene. "Director Loni Peristere wanted the sequence to unfold as an 'oner'—a long, continuous take that kept us tightly aligned with Hugh, creating a subjective,...

‘House of the Dragon’ Sound Designer Used Seals, Pigs, Birds and Infants to Give the Creatures ‘Beautiful Voices Even in Death’
Image
When creating the vocal personalities of the titular fire breathers in HBO’s “House of the Dragon,” sound designer Paula Fairfield starts by giving them a story.

Whether it’s “old lady” Vhagar, or “white boy who thinks he can rap” Caraxes, or the “fidgety” 13-year-old Taylor Swift fan in Syrax, this is how Fairfield gets to know the creatures at her fingertips — and keep them straight.

That was crucial in Season 2, when more dragons took to the skies than ever before in the “Game of Thrones” universe as two factions of the Targaryen dynasty unleashed war on each other from the backs of their winged companions. But fans of author George R. R. Martin’s “Fire & Blood” know the prequel is actually a history of the downfall of the Targaryens and their dragon bloodline.

“We know this is the war where they all end, so it’s honoring the...

House of the Dragon Showrunner Responds to George R.R. Martin's Criticism of the Show
Image
House of the Dragon marked the first spin-off in the Game of Thrones franchise, and the series received positive reviews. However, author George R.R. Martin criticized the changes in Season 2.

Although Martin praised House of the Dragon Season 2's "magnificent" beginning, the author later posted a blog review in late August 2024 to address "everything that's gone wrong with House of the Dragon." He published a follow-up several days later in early September, criticizing the adaptation and the character omissions and changes. In a new interview with Entertainment Weekly, House of the Dragon showrunner Ryan Condal addressed his criticism for the first time.

"It was disappointing," Condal admitted about Martin's words. "I will simply say I've been a fan of A Song of Ice and Fire for almost 25 years now, and working on the show has been truly one of the great privileges of, not only my career as a writer,...

Production of ‘House of the Dragon’ Season 3 Has Officially Started, New Cast Members Confirmed
Image
House of the Dragon began in 2022 and after two seasons, it has received praise for its production, story, and cast performances. And while not every moment from the series has been universally lauded, HBO can still consider this series a hit.

A spin-off coming from George R.R. Martin’s Game of Thrones universe, House of the Dragon currently has 18 episodes as of the time of writing, but more are to come in the near future.

Namely, we know that the series has been renewed for a third season, but we can now confirm that production on that third season has started, and that some new cast members have been added.

A third season of House of the Dragon is on the way, with another spinoff, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, set to debut on HBO this year. There have been a number of Game of Thrones projects that have been scrapped, including a Jon Snow series, which Kit Harington has said is now on the shelf. “Currently, it’s off the table, because we all couldn’t find the right story to tell that we were all excited about enough,” Harington said. “So, we decided to lay down tools with it for the time being. There may be a time in the future where we return to it, but at the moment, no. It’s firmly on the shelf.” Although the Jon Snow spinoff is no longer in development, HBO’s Casey Bloys said he would be open to revisiting it down the line.

Ormund, who was referenced in Season 2 but never appeared on onscreen, is then nephew of Otto (Rhys Ifans), cousin to Alicent (Olivia Cooke) and Gwayne (Freddie Fox) and the Lord of Oldtown. He is presently leading the Hightower forces in a march on King’s Landing to support his house against Rhaenyra (Emma D’Arcy).

Variety was first to report Norton’s casting.

Based on Martin’s Fire & Blood and set 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones, House of the Dragon tells the story of House Targaryen.

In addition to Ifans, Cooke, Fox and D’Arcy, the cast also includes Matt Smith, Emma, Steve Toussaint, Eve Best, Fabien Frankel, Matthew Needham, Sonoya Mizuno, Tom Glynn-Carney, Ewan Mitchell, Harry Collett, Bethany Antonia, Phoebe Campbell, Phia Saban and Jefferson Hall. There's some bittersweet news about Outlander season 8
Image
The Outlander season 7 finale left us on a very interesting, but a little bit of a confusing, cliffhanger! (Here's a list of questions we're left with!) It's possible that [Spoiler] - Faith lived and had two daughters, and those two girls are Jane and Fanny. I know, what!? I mean, there's no way the show will end there, right? Is there going to be a season 8?

Well, there is indeed an Outlander season 8, though it comes with some bittersweet news. This will be the historical drama's final season. That means after all this time, we're going to say goodbye to our beloved Jamie and Claire, and this wonderful world we've been in since 2014. Goodbyes and endings are always hard, but everything great must come to an end. And as Jamie says, nothing is lost. Only changed.

In case you don't know yet, filming on the eighth and final season began in...

Olivia Cooke and Emma D'Arcy in House of the Dragon (2022)
Short film review | Cry Like A Guy
Olivia Cooke and Emma D'Arcy in House of the Dragon (2022)
House Of The Dragon actor Kieran Bew encourages all of us, especially men, to cry more in an hilarious short film. Here’s our review of Cry Like A Guy.

There’s still shame attached to the idea of men crying. Women are allowed, even expected to cry, but it’s somehow embarrassing if a man does, as if it’s some kind of weakness. Naturally, a lot of filmmakers have painstakingly crafted emotional, heartwrenching narratives where men have been allowed to cry on the big screen, hopefully making it easier for the men who are watching to cry too. Who doesn’t love a good cry?

Director, editor and VFX artist Ant Rubinstein’s short film Cry Like A Guy takes a different approach to this. The film opens with our host (and House Of The Dragon actor) Kieran Bew, admitting he’s a crier and he’s clearly proud of it,...

Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon stars cross over at London Comic Con
Image
The winter edition of London Comic Con went down over the past weekend, with guests like Doctor Who's Ncuti Gatwa and Good Omens' Michael Sheen in attendance. Also present were several actors from HBO's Game of Thrones spinoff series House of the Dragon: Clinton Liberty (Addam of Hull), Tom Bennett (Ulf White), Kieran Bew (Hugh Hammer) and Theo Nate.

Liberty, Bennet and Bew play the dragonseeds, peasants who have become dragon-riders after Rhaenyra Targaryen arranged for them to try their luck at mounting the riderless dragons on Dragonstone. (Would that the dozens of other people who took a swing at it had their kind of luck.) Clinton Liberty uploaded a picture of the whole House of the Dragon crew together at the con on his Instagram:

November 14 Is a Disappointing Day for Bruce Lee Fans
Image
Time is running out for Bruce Lee fans on Netflix to stream the acclaimed series Warrior. The series is set to leave the streaming platform this month.

Per Netflix, Warrior will depart Netflix on Nov. 14. The bad news goes beyond having the title removed from the platform, as it's also further confirmation that Netflix will not be saving the series after all. When Warrior was added to Netflix this past February, there were hopes in the fan base that the show would pull in enough viewership to have the streamer order a fourth season. Unfortunately, even with a 93% score on Rotten Tomatoes, the show didn't click well enough with subscribers for Netflix to pursue a continuation, coinciding with star Joe Taslim's recent comments that the show was officially finished.

When both Claire Fraser and Lord John Gray look like their worlds are ending, it can only mean one thing: Something very bad has befallen James Alexander Malcolm Mackenzie Fraser.

And that’s the case about halfway through Outlander’s official Season 7 Part 2 trailer, which Starz released Thursday in conjunction with the show’s New York Comic Con panel.

House of the Dragon boss Ryan Condal explains how season 2 filmed its biggest scenes
Image
Earlier this year, HBO released the second season of its Game of Thrones prequel series House of the Dragon, and proceeded to knock all our socks off with the epic scale of its special effects. Has there ever been a clash between dragons in the sky like the Battle of Rook's Rest? I certainly can't think of one.

We'll be waiting a while to see what happens next for the series; House of the Dragon won't start filming season 3 until early 2025, which means we won't be watching it until 2026. In the meantime, we tide ourselves over with snippets of news and glimpses behind the scenes. The latest of those comes courtesy of Vanity Fair, which sat down with showrunner Ryan Condal to discuss what went into filming some of House of the Dragon's biggest scenes for their new interview series The Craft Of...

Emma D'Arcy's House of the Dragon castmates show up to support their new play
Image
We have a while to wait before we get to see new episodes of House of the Dragon, HBO's Game of Thrones prequel series, but the cast members are keeping busy in the meantime. At the moment, Emma D'Arcy (Rhaenyra Targaryen) is starring in a Greek myth-inspired drama called The Other Place at the National Theatre in London. D'Arcy is incredibly compelling onscreen and I can easily imagine them commanding the stage as well.

That said, the National Theater is an ocean away from where I live, so I doubt I'll be taking it in. But D'Arcy's House of the Dragon castmates live much closer. In a video on X, we can see House of the Dragon stars Harry Collett (who plays Rhaenyra's son Jace) and Ewan Mitchell (who plays her younger half-brother Aemond) showing up to watch their colleague work:

Outlander Season 8's New Characters Make Me More Worried About The Ending
Image
The announcement that Outlander season 8 will introduce even more new characters makes me really worried about the show's ending. Even though Outlander season 7 hasn't finished airing yet, I'm already looking ahead to how Starz's biggest series will wrap up its epic, time-hopping drama. Based on Diana Gabaldon's Outlander book series, the show revolves around Claire (Caitrona Balfe), a nurse from the 1940s who is transported back to 1743 Scotland, and Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan), a charming Highland warrior. While Claire and Jamie's relationship has had its ups and downs, I'm invested in their dynamic, above all else.

The series confirmed a few season 8 additions to Outlander's cast of characters, including Kieran Bew, who will play a retired British soldier named Charles Cunningham; Frances Tomelty, who plays Charles' mother, Eslpeth; and Carla Woodcock's Amaranthus Grey (via TVInsider). These characters sound intriguing to me, but, thinking of Outlander as a whole,...

Ulf White: Everything To Know About The Dragonrider (Including Who Plays Him In House Of The Dragon Season 2)
Image
Major spoilers for House of the Dragon and Fire & Blood ahead.

Ulf White is a character newly introduced in House of the Dragon season 2 and his story in the show is only just beginning. Season 2 of House of the Dragon brought in many new characters and plenty of new dragons as the "Dance of Dragons" got officially underway. "Dragon math" became a real consideration for the Greens and Blacks in season 2, with the leaders of each faction realizing that the flying beasts would decide the wars between men. Criston Cole (Fabian Frankel) saw this firsthand at the battle of Rook's Rest.

With the death of Rhaenys (Eve Best) and Meleys, and the damage done to Sunfyre, Rhaenyra (Emma D'Arcy) realizes that her dragons alone will not be able to stop Vhagar if she and Aemond (Ewan Mitchell) decide to attack. So begins the Sowing, a series of violent introductions...

‘House Of The Dragon’ Season 2 Review: What Did It All Mean?
Image
(This article contains spoilers for House of the Dragon Season 2, Episodes 1-2, 3-4, 5, 6, and 7.)

Rhaenyra’s (Emma D’Arcy) new dragonriders, Ulf (Tom Bennett), Hugh (Kieran Bew) and Addam (Clinton Liberty) adjust to life in Dragonstone. House Lannister knight Ser Tyland (Jefferson Hall) treats with pirates. Rhaena (Phoebe Campbell) continues her search for a wild dragon in the Vale of Arryn. Aemond (Ewan Mitchell), shook by the discovery of Rhaenyra’s fresh dragon army, tries to even the playing field. Daemon’s (Matt Smith) allegiances are decided. Alicent (Olivia Cooke) makes a choice for her family’s future.

According to showrunner Ryan Condal, “The final episode is such a great build for everywhere we’ve been in Season 2 and promising what’s to come.” Audiences are pushing back on that after the highly anticipated finale didn’t deliver on the action-based climax we were expecting.

“This should have the last shot”: House of the Dragon Upsets Fans for Getting the Climax Wrong as S02 Finale Serves as an Extended Trailer
Image
Spoiler Alert !!!Spoiler Warning for House of the Dragon Season 2 Episode 7 & 8

House of the Dragon wrapped up its second season with what seemed like an eight-episode trailer for Season 3. Regardless, fans are more dismayed over one thing the show could have used as a stronger end note for the series.

Emma D’Arcy in House of the Dragon / HBO

Remember Rhaenyra Targaryen with Syrax, Vermithor, and Silverwing at the end of Episode 7? This should have been the final scene in the season finale according to many viewers.

House Of The Dragon Missed The Chance To Use The Most Epic Shot In Season Finale

The penultimate chapter of House of the Dragon saw two riderless dragons, Vermithor and Silvering, claimed by Hugh Hammer (Kieran Bew) and Ulf the White (Tom Bennett), respectively. When the latter found himself in the dragon’s lair, he surprisingly charmed Silverwing enough to let him take her...

‘House of the Dragon’ Finale Hits Season 2 Viewership High With Nearly 9 Million Viewers, But Down From Season 1 Ender
Image
“House of the Dragon” hit a Season 2 high in viewership with Sunday’s finale, which drew 8.9 million multiplatform viewers across HBO and Max, per Warner Bros. Discovery.

That’s up 14% from the Season 2 premiere night, which garnered 7.8 million viewers. However, it is down from the audience size for the first season finale of “House of the Dragon” in 2022.

After premiering with 10 million viewers in June 2022, “House of the Dragon” Season 1 hit its peak with Episode 2, reaching 10.2 million. Exact data was not made available for Episodes 3-9, but Episode 10 closed the season with 9.3 million viewers.

Warner Bros. Discovery attributed the season opener declines to a drop in linear viewing, as fewer viewers now watch on HBO’s cable channel. But on the flip side, the conglom reports that Sunday’s “House of the Dragon” finale has now led to the biggest streaming day ever for Max, both in the U.S.

House of the Dragon Season 2 Ending Sets Up Major Season 3 Battles
Image
This article contains spoilers for House of the Dragon season 2 episode 8 and details from Fire & Blood that could spoil House of the Dragon season 3.

Did you find yourself a little disappointed with the House of the Dragon season 2 finale? You weren’t alone on that front.

Season two’s final episode appeared to stop just short of some real action. While Daemon resolved his family issues and Rhaenyra and Alicent resolved…whatever it is they have going on, the Dance of the Dragons civil war appeared to be stuck in a holding pattern on House of the Dragon.

Still, the final five minutes of the season 2 finale do act as a sort of sizzle reel for the action to come in season 3 as we see several armies and navies advance across the Westerosi landscape to parts unknown. With that in mind, let’s take stock of all the various factions on the board,...
