Becket beckons Bollywood once again. The immortal French play by Jean Anouilh was furnished a sensitive renewability by Hrishikesh Mukherjee in Namak Haraam 38 years ago and then again much later by Govind Nihalani in Dev.
Now the stories of two friends separated by caste creed and ideology who are torn apart by their irreconcilable socio-political differences, is given a seriously spunky spin by Prakash Jha.
Staightaway, let’s get to the point(much in the same vein that the film does). This is Prakash Jha’s most resolutely etched and firmly grounded drama since Mrityudand, and a work way superior to his last two film Raajneeti and Aarakshan both of which suffered to some extent by being scattered in intent and pulled in too many directions.
While here again in Chakravyuh we witness...

Remakes definitely have it tough. Not only do they have to go through the usual grind of pleasing the audiences and doing well at the box office, they also have to bear the added burden of comparisons with the original. And in most cases, the huge expectations and comparisons often kill the remake. Agneepath is a remake of the 1990 Yash Johar production – a movie which was a box office failure but went on to become a cult – and there’s no doubt that people are waiting to decide whether this one works better than the original or not. Truly speaking, Agneepath is more of a tribute rather than a remake; it pays homage to the original, it itself states that the cult is difficult to recreate but at the same time urges you to watch it without any pre-notions. I am going to do this movie a favor – I will...

Review: Jail; Cast: Neil Nitin Mukesh, Manoj Bajpai, Mugdha Godse, Arya Babbar, Rahul Singh, Chetan Pandit; Director: Madhur Bhandarkar; Rating: 3.5 out of 5.
Madhur Bhandarkar has done it again. From “Jail”, one expected a gritty, hard-hitting and thought-provoking drama. Bhandarkar delivers all this and lots more.
Before one starts drawing any comparisons, let’s make one thing clear – “Jail” isn’t “The Shawshank Redemption”. The only similarity is that they both tell the story of prison inmates. Other than that.

Download image as wallpaper Madhur Bhandarkar and his fixation for everything which is 'real' is much known. So much so that in his upcoming release Jail, he has incorporated an item number which would have a Chandni Bar setting to it. Not just that, the song would feature Sayali Bhagat in a guest appearance. Confirming the news, Madhur Bhandarkar says, "The song is titled 'Bareli Ka Bazaar' and has a beer bar setting to it. I have shot the number in a completely real life manner, just like Chandni Bar was shot. Since the setting is similar, everything from look, ambience to the background had to appear real." This is not the first time though that Sayali Bhagat is appearing in an item number. After making her debut with box office flop The Train (2007) [Emraan Hashmi, Geeta Basra], Sayali Bhagat was seen in the Halla Bol (2008) where she had gyrated to the tune of 'Is Pal Ki Soch'.
