For years, 50 Cent and Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs have been seen as rivals in the music industry. Their feud dates back to the early 2000s, but recent events have reignited tension between the two, particularly after a raid on Diddy’s properties, resulting in serious allegations, including s*x trafficking and racketeering.
As one of the few major figures in the industry consistently outspoken on the matter, 50 Cent/Curtis Jackson has not only distanced himself from Diddy but also launched a public and creative campaign to expose what he views as long-standing issues. Here’s a breakdown of everything 50 Cent has said about Diddy and the now-infamous ‘freakoff’ parties.

A new Spike Lee movie is still a calendar-clearing event; in the near 30 years since She’s Gotta Have It helped kickstart the Amerindie boom and introduced the world to a brash, trash-talking auteur from Brooklyn, he’s given us era-defining statements and eccentric sidebars, epic biopics and intimate performance movies, blockbusters and docs, highs and lows. His place in the canon is assured. It’s still always a dice roll, of course, and you never know which Spike you’re going to get once the lights go down — the crank,...

Given his unsettling behavior on X, followed by a plethora of other controversies, it’s easy to see why many major celebs are starting to distance themselves from Kanye West. This includes P.I.M.P. rapper 50 Cent, who, like most of us, is understandably bamboozled by West’s spiral into irrationality.
Although it may be nothing more than a marketing ploy to garner more traction toward the Graduation creator, in a now-deleted tweet, West threw a mathematical diss toward Cent in reference to their long-buried rivalry.

Sean “Diddy” Combs, the music mogul, is currently facing multiple lawsuits that has severely impacted his reputation and business empire. Once a dominant figure in the music industry, the Bad Boy Records founder is now dealing with allegations that have led to the decline in his public image.

As these legal troubles unfold, past decisions from his career are being reexamined. One of the most notable could be his regret over passing on one of the biggest rappers in the 90s, a move that ultimately cost him. Diddy’s hesitation to sign him, dismissing him as “not marketable,” would later prove to be one of his most significant miscalculations.

The loss of Irv Gotti, who died last week at the age of 54, is immense. The Hollis, Queens native was a relic from an era when being a hip-hop multi-hyphenate wasn’t about diversifying your portfolio but a passion for hip-hop culture. In his time, he was a DJ, an A&R credited with saving Def Jam Records by helping sign Jay-Z and Dmx, a producer who crafted a signature, multi-platinum sound, and a label head for Murder Inc., which sold over 30 million albums from artists like Ja Rule and Ashanti.

Legendary music producer Irv Gotti (born Irving Lorenzo Jr.) died on Feb. 5 at the age of 54.
Many fellow musicians have taken to social media to pay their respects to the artist. While most tributes are warm, Gotti’s longtime rival, 50 Cent, decided to use the death to virtually “end” the two’s feud.
Gotti and 50 Cent (born Curtis James Jackson III) had a public feud for 25 years. In 1999, artist Ja Rule (also signed to Gotti’s label Murder Inc. Label at the time) accused one of 50 Cent’s associates of robbing him in Queens. 50 Cent then released his song “Your Life’s on the Line,” which directly criticized Gotti and Ja Rule.
A year later, at New York’s Hit Factory Studio, Ja Rule and 50 Cent had an altercation, which led to rapper Black Child stabbing 50 Cent, allegedly in self-defense. After 50 Cent was shot nine times in 2000, a 2005 federal...

His injuries were horrific and deadly, which nearly cost him his life if he hadn’t been given prompt medical attention. While he has come a long way from that dreadful day, his past continues to make headlines.

In fact, 50 Cent’s Instagram post after Irv Gotti’s passing, too, has raised some eyebrows. Although the old clip only made its way back into the spotlight due to Cent’s recent feud with Big Meech, it’s a disheartening look back all the same.

Irv Gotti, who cofounded Murder Inc. Records and has delivered hits for rappers Ja-Rule and Jay-Z, is being sued by an ex-companion for alleged sexual assault and battery.
In a lawsuit filed in Miami-Dade on July 11, a woman identified only as Jane Doe accuses 54-year-old Gotti (born Irving Domingo Lorenzo) of sexually assaulting and abusing her on several occasions from 2020 to 2022 in Saint Martin, Miami, and Atlanta. The suit seeks a trial by jury.
“After flying her to Saint Martin, Gotti coerced Plaintiff into having sex with him,” the court filing states. “Gotti specifically threatened Plaintiff that he would send her home if she did not comply … and due to his power and influences in the music world, she complied.”
The lawsuit claims Gotti “demanded” sexual acts from the plaintiff throughout their alleged two-year relationship, saying he “often berated and scolded” her. He also forced her to perform oral sex...

In recent months, Ashanti has begun pulling back the curtain on the misogynistic and predatory power imbalances she has encountered working in the music industry for the past two decades. Her latest divulgence arrived during an appearance on the Breakfast Club, where she resurfaced claims that an unnamed producer offered her the ultimatum of having shower sex with him or handing over 80,000 in exchange for two songs they worked on together.

Ashanti is finally speaking out about Irv Gotti and the comments he's made about the nature of their relationship. The "Foolish" singer's response comes months after Gotti, founder of Murder Inc. Records, released his five-part BET docuseries recounting the history of his record label - which included salacious comments about their alleged intimate moments and deserving ownership of her masters (Ashanti is currently in the process of rerecording her self-titled debut album). After staying silent and refusing to appear in Gotti's documentary, Ashanti set the record straight during her appearance on Angie Martinez's "Irl" podcast.
The episode, released on Oct. 26, features an hour-plus-long conversation between the two, much of which focuses on Ashanti addressing what her former label head said about her in episode three of his docuseries, which she's heavily discussed in. "It's very unfortunate how Irv decided to handle his documentary," Ashanti told Martinez. "It's a little...

Progress continues to be incremental in front of and behind television cameras in Hollywood. An October 2021 UCLA Television Diversity study examined 461 scripted television shows airing or streaming during the 2019-20 season. It revealed that only 32.1 percent of scripted broadcast network shows, 28.1 percent on cable TV, and 26.8 percent on streaming platforms, featured majority non-white casts. Each category saw an increase of roughly 2-3 percent over the previous season. In summary, despite popular claims of a “renaissance” for Bipoc creatives in Hollywood (especially for African Americans), there’s still much work to be done on the matter of inclusion in all job areas.
As their study states, the Bipoc group is not proportionately represented to their share of the U.S. population, even though audience interest in programming with talent that represents the nation’s diversity, continues to increase.
When Bipoc narratives are controlled by non-bipoc creatives, character story lines may lack authenticity,...

An October 2020 UCLA Hollywood Diversity study — which focused on broadcast, cable and streaming programming for the previous two television seasons — reported that, when it comes to racial diversity in television industry jobs, while Black, indigenous, and other people of color (Bipoc) creatives continue to make incremental gains, positions at the highest ranks and behind the camera still elude them. The group is not represented proportionately to their share of the U.S. population overall, even though audiences continue to show interest in programming with talent that represents the nation’s diversity.
The analysis found that the greatest racial disparities are in behind-the-camera jobs such as a show’s creator, director, and writer: Among digital programs, just 10.3 percent of show creators were Bipoc; in broadcast, 10.7 percent; and for cable, 14.7 percent.
White men still dominate these positions, as well as high-level TV executive jobs. As of 2020, chair/CEO positions were overwhelmingly held...
