The leads, who will play Sam Bankman-Fried and Caroline Ellison, will be Anthony Boyle and Julia Garner, respectively. The streaming giant announced they will join the cast on Thursday.

The story follows the real-life events of the ironically named Bankman-Fried and Ellison, who tried to remake the international financial system. In the process, the two stole as much as $8 billion. Boyle will play Ftx founder Sam Bankman-Fried, while Garner will star opposite him as Caroline Ellison, the former CEO of Alameda Research, the cryptocurrency trading firm co-founded by Bankman-Fried. For their roles in Ftx’s implosion, both Ellison and Bankman-Fried were indicted on, among other crimes, counts of wire fraud, conspiracy to commit wire fraud and conspiracy to commit money laundering. Ellison is currently serving a two-year prison sentence for her crimes, while Bankman-Fried was sentenced in 2024 to 25 years in prison.

Another project heading out for sales there is “Sponsor,” a new nail-biting thriller that hails from director James Ponsoldt and stars Jason Segel, the two reuniting after working together on the hit Apple TV+ series “Shrinking.”

The pic at Michael Bay‘s Platinum Dunes revealed by Variety will focus on “a drunk driver whose court-ordered recovery program introduces him to an enigmatic 12-step guru, one who slowly drags him into a living hell.” A script for “Sponsor” was co-written by Ponsoldt and Segel.

Jason Segel is going from being TV's favorite therapist in Apple TV+'s Shrinking, to breaking audiences psychologically in his new movie Sponsor. Segel, who co-created Shrinking with Bill Lawrence and Brett Goldstein, has co-written Sponsor with the film's director, James Ponsoldt (who directed several episodes of Shrinking). The upcoming psychological thriller is currently doing the sales rounds at the Cannes Market. There are some strong similarities between Shrinking and Sponsor, but, the new movie probably won't leave you with that same warm and fuzzy feeling by the end of it.

Per Deadline, Sponsor is currently seeking distributors at the ongoing Cannes Market. The film is being repped by UTA Independent Film Group and MK2. The through-lines from Shrinking to Sponsor include alternative therapy and Jason Segal playing a character affected by drunk driving. But, both narratively and tonally, that's where the similarities end. Sponsor looks to be a far darker and more twisted story.

Variety has learned that both Cola and Gomez will appear in Season 3 of the Apple TV+ dramedy in recurring roles. Apple TV+’s Shrinking is adding an Emmy winner to its season three cast.

Jeff Daniels will guest-star in the comedy’s third season, playing Jimmy’s (Jason Segel) father. The two-time Emmy winner joins a cast that also includes Harrison Ford, Christa Miller, Jessica Williams, Luke Tennie, Michael Urie, Lukita Maxwell and Ted McGinley; co-creator Brett Goldstein recurred in season two.

Details of how Jimmy’s dad enters the show are being kept quiet for now. Season two ended with Jimmy forgiving the drunk driver (Goldstein) who caused the accident that left him widowed — and himself for how he had previously handled his relationship with his daughter, Alice (Lukita Maxwell).

“You want Jimmy to get to the point where he would leave it all behind for Alice, including his therapy practice and all that,” Segel told The Hollywood Reporter when season two concluded. “I think that’s what makes it the primary relationship.
